We booked a room in the annex building at Trevi 41 because it was the only option available with two beds--we were traveling with our young son, and needed the extra space. What we got was a sweatbox in a glorified storage unit, a block away from the actual hotel, with zero air conditioning, no staff, and no help.
We returned late at night after sightseeing to find the room over 85°F. The AC unit was blowing--but not cooling. And because we were in the annex (a separate, unmonitored building), there was no one around to call or switch rooms. Meanwhile, my brother-in-law stayed in the main building and had no issues with AC--proving this was not user error, just a broken room.
The annex was also disgusting--piles of dirty laundry, discarded furniture, and signs everywhere warning of blackouts and electrical problems, even advising guests not to plug in electronics. Super reassuring when you've got a kid with you.
I asked for a refund--they ignored me. Even after Hotels.com tried to intervene on our behalf, Trevi 41 refused to issue even a partial refund. No apology, no credit, nothing.
We stayed all over Italy and this was the only bad experience of the trip. This hotel knew there were issues and still rented out the room to us. That's not hospitality--it's negligence. read more
