Over the last 4 years I have had many positive experiences at this bike shop. Bobby in particular is a heck of a guy and a darn good mechanic. But boy oh boy did I step into a twilight zone situation this time around. Going back 3 years I bought a frameset that was delivered to this shop without all the required hardware. No Big deal. Things happen and I get it. They apparently resolved the issue right away by sourcing some screws locally and I was on my way. What no one new at the time is that these screws were made of the wrong material (carbon steel rather than a less corrosive material such as stainless). Well they rusted and seized in place and I could not remove them. So I took it back to the shop this week to get some help and Morgan refused any liability for what happened. He wanted to charge me $80 per hour to correct a issue that THEY created. (he was prepared to give me a $120 bill to remove 4 screws)..Obviously this is way off base. I went back and forth with Morgan to try to help him understand that his position was just outrageous. Obviously he sensed my exasperation and certainly I raised my voice over the phone. I was down right angry. So I engaged with the people at Trek corporate and they immediately understood and agreed that this work should be performed at no cost to me. Very simple. So Morgan's team did the work and I went to pick up my bike. Morgan walked my bike outside with me. I was thinking well Morgan has seen the light and and he is about to apologize...which I would gladly have accepted. That was not his plan. He went on with an attempt to shame me and tell me that they would never work on my bike again and that I was not welcome on the premises. What?... the sentiment aside I would not chose to go back there anyway. Quite unfortunate. That is a brittle spirit and not consistent with what I am used to in the biking community. My mother is an avid bike rider...wait, that sounds weird and wrong...cyclist? Is cyclist the word? How about I just go with peddler in honor of the name. Ok, so my mom is a big peddler...me, not so much. But when I needed a new tire for my cruiser (yeah, yeah, I'm that chick that looks like she's on a stroll by the ocean when I'm really on the green line), my mom insisted that I come here because she looooooves this shop. I don't really have a story or anecdote other than simply saying that they were super nice and fixed my tire/did a tune up in 24 hours. I don't foresee myself needing to come here a lot but if I ever do decide to become a peddler, I'd definitely frequent this shop! Oh! I noticed they have a $5 a day storage fee if you don't pick your bike up after 5 days...pretty smart because that sign made me pick up ASAP after they called when it probably would have taken me a week or more....because I'm lazy like that. read more

In Memphis for a week in October. Peddler rented me a terrific Trek for a reasonable rate, fitted it with pedals for my cleats, and lent me both a messenger bag and a tool I could use to remove one of the pedals to fit the bike in the back of the rental car. I rode happily all around town and down in the Delta. Great experience made possible by great people at the Peddler Bike Shop. read more

Would not think of going anywhere else for my cycling needs! Recently when they were not yet open for the day, a mechanic graciously came out into the parking lot and showed me how to use my new bike pump at no charge. Our family has purchased multiple bikes over the years, and the friendly and competent staff and personalized attention will keep me coming back for many more to come! I called to have my bottom bracket removed. I asked if they had the proper tool (Park Tool BBT-5) on hand. They did and told me to come in. It was a fairly busy that day but I was greeted as soon as I walked in. I took my bike to the mechanic and he promptly took my bike to the back. 10 minutes later, he handed me my frameset and bottom bracket. I asked for the service charge and he said it was for free. I really appreciate the work done that day and will be back if I'm ever in the area. read more

I walked in here with a lot of needs and not a lot of opportunity for the shop to make money off me and I was incredibly impressed at the laid-back and helpful staff. I needed a couple of cardboard bike boxes to FedEx bikes. Not only did they go out of their way to provide me with boxes, removing new bikes from boxes that didn't need to be built yet to give me what I needed, but they even let me break down my bikes in the corner of their shop and pack them. They even gave me packing tape and offered tools! Then, they were nice enough to store the boxes until the FedEx truck could come pick them up. Wow, that is seriously good service! I really want to like this place, but my experiences have just been so-so/average at best. I am not a bike snob, don't belong to any club, ride by myself and am not part of any bike scene, as it were. Avid bikers I know either love or hate this place. I fall in between. I was supposed to get my bike back on Wednesday at the latest but it was not ready until today. (They charge a storage fee if you don't pick it up in a timely manner. They might consider deducting an amount each day that they are late!). I took my bike in for two broken spokes, and agreed to a tune-up at 85.00, that then got increased to a possible bill of 235.00 of things that could be wrong with the bike. Note that the bike rode perfectly for me as I rode into the place, except for the spokes - and I knew it needed the tune-up, but I was emphatic that if they found I did not really need the other stuff after cleaning the old part (derailleur) they should not replace it. I was emphatic that I needed to be called in advance if the derailleur needed to be replaced as I was having no trouble shifting when I rode the bike to the store just then - only the spokes were broken. So, I get a call today saying that the derailleur they had ordered was the wrong part and it would be next week to get the right one in. I noted to the tech who called me that in my previous convo when dropping the bike off that I was emphatic that I be called if that part needed to be replaced. I noted that the person who wrote up the work order said the part was very dirty and possibly when cleaned would work. I never received a call and the tech said he saw no indication on the work order that I had requested that the old one be cleaned and then determined if it would work. So . . . I instruct him to at least be certain that the old part does not work before ordering another one to replace the incorrect one that was ordered. So . . . he puts the old derailleur back on and I get a call saying the bike is ready. I rode the bike home and it shifted without any problem. So I saved $40.00 because they ordered the wrong part and called me to tell me that. Had they ordered the right part, presumably I would never of had the option to find out if the old part worked because the work order was not followed through. As I was leaving, I noted my speedometer still did not work - something else I noted when I dropped the bike off. Long story short - they decided the sensor was bad, it would cost maybe $30.00 to replace but would not be ready till next week because they would have to order the part. No thanks. So here is the deal - as an isolated incident - no problem - everybody screws up occasionally. Over the past few years I have gone to the Peddler maybe once a year for something and my experiences are similar - whether buying supplies or service work. When my wife went there a few years ago to buy me a mountain bike for my birthday, she was so turned off by the sales folks that she walked out and went to a nearby competitor and bought the bike there. I read the other reviews here and they are generally all positive, so the Peddler must be doing something right for a lot of folks. However, I would simply be remiss if I did not reflect my reality. I really hate writing unfavorable reviews, particularly for local folks. I hope they improve. read more

We were helped by a young woman who was beyond rude. Instead of being helped we were told our bike was cheap and she couldn't help us much (we were rebuilding a childhood bike my parents bought me so it was sentimental). I don't care if you have to go to Mississippi, avoid this place at all costs. read more

These guys rock. I was given a new bike last month, and it was shipped to the Peddler directly from the manufacturer, and they built it. I took it in two days ago for my free 30-day tune up, and they had it back to me in 24 hours. They've always been courteous, prompt, and honest with me. They carry a good selection of accessories in their store, and have a wide range of bikes. Their staff is very knowledgeable about what they sell, and you can tell their primary focus is helping you find something that fits your needs. I'll definitely be back! read more

Two of the employees from Peddler spent their own time, free of charge, to educate the boys from Cub Scout Pack 40 about safe riding and bike maintenance. They even stayed afterward to perform tune ups for the boys. Pack 40 is so thankful that these fine men from Peddler were willing to teach the next generation about bike smarts. Thanks, Peddler!
