Of all the tree companies operating out of Portland this one seems to be taking some huge risks. Also our gutter is bent. Not the biggest deal but come on. Unprofessional. Also - when I told them that they bent my gutter their crew said "wasnt me". Absolutely bs considering I just had those replaced. Rude. Don't hire these guys. The tree was big and had a heavy lean towards our neighbor, and had a bad crack in a "Y" section that was only another ice storm from disaster. We were impressed with a decent Estimate for the work and the speediness of getting scheduled for the work too! The office manager was helpful and understood what I was asking about and the Arborist was very knowledgeable. The guy that climbed the tree, slung himself in safely and then cut everything was very careful to not cause damage to anything nearby! They also even swept-up the patio and pathway before leaving! Do not hire this company to do work that requires a bucket truck, because they don't have one and won't tell you beforehand. They did an acceptable job a few years ago removing a fallen tree, so I called them to trim a huge Siberian elm that cannot be properly trimmed without a bucket truck. The tree overhangs the driveway, and they knew I was concerned about damage from falling branches. They showed up without a bucket truck and did some trimming with ladders and climbing, but quite inadequate as branches continue to fall. The owner implied it was my fault for not specifying that I wanted a bucket truck. Well, I wouldn't tell a plumber to be sure to bring pipe wrenches, either. read more

The owner showed up, removed the stump with a very expensive piece of equipment, smoothened the area and cleaned up after himself, and you can't even tell there ever was a stump removed there. We recently hired this company to take down a huge old cherry tree that had died in our back yard, as well as some other tree trimming work. The cherry was in a difficult spot but the crew did an amazing job. They were extremely careful of the yard below. The owner, Tom, did the cutting himself while his crew assisted. A few years ago we asked Tree Masters to give us an estimate on some trees we needed cut down.  One of the largest trees on our property was an old oak.  Tom, The owner and estimator, made a great case as to why we shouldn't cut down the old oak.  He was obviously a lover of trees and well versed in the management of Trees.   He told us it was a rare old tree but that with proper trimming it would not fall down in a storm.  He sent his high climbing trimmer to nearly the top of the tree and he Proceeded to trim various limbs.  Tom said we should be safe in any storm with that tree.  When we had the huge ice storm last year we were sure we would lose some of our biggest trees.  And we did, except for that old oak that he trimmed.  We didn't even loose a branch.  Tree masters is definitely going to be our go to company for tree maintenance from here on out. read more

I have used Tree Masters three times (so far). The second time was after the freak snow we had in April, which split a tree down the middle and half was hanging into our backyard neighbor's yard. Despite being extremely busy with other customers, due to the damaging snow storm citywide, they made room on their schedule to get here in just two days! I was a little concerned at their hourly rate for a three-person crew. But they work so efficiently that the final cost was surprisingly low. Same with the larger tree they removed last week (which had also succumbed to the snow) --I didn't even ask for an estimate, knowing the cost would be more than fair. I had TREE MASTERS and their crew come out in the fall of 2020 to take care of an empress tree that was overgrown, the neighbors loved it because of the beautiful flowers and I couldn't take it down completely but they cut it so nothing would fall on the house and everything for this last winter ice storm came down that was Heavy in between and never hit the house I recommend them highly I Love This Crew I've used him for the last 10 years! Tree Masters was working across the street from my home last week on 7/7. Our internet fiber wire runs from our house across the street near where they were working on some trees. Around 10:30am, we realized we lost internet. We walked outside just in time to watch another tree limb fall directly onto our internet line. After speaking with one of the crew members we were told that "wasn't their problem" and to "contact our service provider". There was no empathy at all and they just brushed us off as if we didn't matter at all. The line was low enough to be snagged by a delivery truck the following day, creating a huge public safety issue that the fire department had to come and fix. All because they were careless and dropping limbs willy nilly. Every member of our household either works from home, or attends college remotely - having working internet is incredibly important. I contacted Tree Masters and spoke to a very nice receptionist, who sent along information regarding the incident and my phone number to the owner, Tom Burke. She told me that they could reimburse us any fees or anything charges we might incur while waiting for our service to be restored. I was told I might have to wait until the next day until Tom contacted me, as he was busy. This was fine by me. However, Tom decided to call me at 10pm. 10pm is not the time to try calling someone, it's incredibly rude and not at all being considerate of our time or the fact that I might be, gee, I don't know... SLEEPING? I did not answer, so he left a message. He left a message LYING THROUGH HIS TEETH, trying to tell me that his crews weren't working my area that day, so it couldn't have been them. The next day we went across the street to verify the company, and received a copy of Tom's business card, so it was definitely them. We also spoke directly to the landlord that hired them, and he confirmed that he's worked with them in the past, and was appalled at the fact that they could do this and not take ownership of the issue. I called Tom back and left a message, very nicely letting him know that it was his crews that took out our lines, and that I would like to speak with him more regarding the issue. I called the office the following day (Friday), and they said that it might be until Monday until I hear from Tom. It's now been 6 days since that phone call and I've heard NOTHING. Additionally, the receptionist told us that it's unlikely they will cover the cost of my family having to use mobile hotspots to work and attend school after I was told previously that 'it's the least they could do'. Our ISP still has not restored our service (which I will understand is not Tree Master's fault), HOWEVER, we would not be in the situation had they not been to negligent and irresponsible while working. So, should you hire Tree Masters for your next job? Well, only if you want them to cause problems with your neighbors, create dangerous situations for pedestrians and cars on the road, call you in the middle of the night, lie to you, and then avoid you when you've got proof of their screw ups. How these people are still in business is beyond me. read more

I was very happy with the work done by the crew of three. The missing star is 1)because I had planned to get multiple bids but felt pressured to sign the arborist's prospectus, and 2) because I had stated a strong preference that the arborist drop by the site during pruning (because of a bad experience with a previous company) and he did not show up. My major purpose was to make trees around my home storm-safe and preserve their beauty. Everyone in the crew worked cooperatively and seemed equally dedicated to doing quality work. Ty, the team leader, took the time to get my perspective by viewing the proposed work from inside the house, as well as from outside. He also verified major branch removals before cutting. He explained choices he made in terms of tree health. The person assigned to trim a Japanese maple was experienced, gave attention to aesthetics, and double-checked my preferences. The third member of the team, who primarily supported the others and hauled off trimmings, was always careful not to damage budding shrubs and perennials underneath the trees. We have actually been using Tree Masters and Tom Burke for many years. We have 3 different properties and they have done excellent work on all of them. Tom is really knowledgeable and is an expert arborist. I like that he doesn't just say cut it all down, he makes along term plan for the trees with the landscape. His crews have always been professional, showed up on time and gave us great advice. They clean up well and are careful around other bushes and plants. Called to get an estimate. Their voicemail box for their primary number was full. Called and left a message at another number they provided. An office worker / receptionist called back about 5 days later to get our information. Then, a few days later, someone else called to get our information - it was clear that they hadn't communicated with the receptionist. That was more than 2 weeks ago. No estimate, no sign of anyone, no phone calls, no follow-up. If they can't be timely with an estimate, or even be bothered to provide one, how good can their service be. They may do large trees like elm great but would not recommend for ornamentals and rhododendrons. They did the job last year late and the new growth on the rhododendron is few flowers and lots of green sprouts. This certainly requires another pruning to correct the rhode back to flowers without all the green sprouts hiding them. Big trees yes ornamentals no. read more

Tom gave us a reasonable estimate for removal of a lot of dead limbs and removal of some limbs downed in the last storm. He and his crew showed up at 7:30 AM with a (really big) chipper and once he'd detailed out the work, they got down to business climbing and cutting. They did all the work they had promised, cleaned up thoroughly after themselves and left the property better looking than they found it. I will call them again when I need more work done. read more

I called Tom out to get an estimate for a few tree removals and some trimming. He came out after hours and recommended another removal as well, mentioning that the young tree was only a few inches from a gas line, directly next to our foundation. Almost certainly would be an expensive and potentially dangerous problem sooner than later. They removed that one for free, in addition to all the other work they did, and it was done quickly, politely and at a reasonable price. Plus, the quality of the work was good. I hired Tree Masters to remove dead wood from two large Norwegian Maple trees on the parking strip in front of my house a few months ago when the trees were bare. Once they had leafed out, I noticed that a few dead branches remained so I called to see if they would come back for them.
