I had a good time here at Tree House in River North, Chicago!! It's a very Instagram-able and spacious place with a lot of large tables and curved booths. It has 2 stories, although the upstairs was closed when we went on Friday night. They're best known for their Detroit style pizza, so that's exactly what we got! We got the She's All That (Buffala mozzarella, basil, San Marzano sauce) and the Rocky (Philly style steak, sweet bell peppers, grilled onions, mozzarella). It was my first time trying Detroit style pizza and it did not disappoint. We all loved it!! To drink, I got the Cher & Dionne which was extremely sweet and we didn't taste alcohol in it really ($17 for it). It was more expensive than one of our pizzas. Our server was super nice and we had no problems with the service. I've gathered that Tree House has low ratings on Yelp and Google mostly due to the service and disorganization of events. Luckily we didn't experience that, but I could see how that could happen after coming here once. Overall, this is definitely a place to go with a group of people for drinks, pizza and just to go out. This place is just a big photo op and not much else of note. My group of four had reservations for 830 on August 30th and showed up and were seated timely. However, we then didn't see a server for 25 mins. My friend flagged down a server who came up to our table and asked us if we were dining in. We were really confused because yes obviously?? We had been sitting at this table she walked by over and over?? The host sat us down?? Then we place our orders and she leaves. Nobody ever gave us a water carafe. I had to go up to the bartender and ask for a carafe for our table. Our food was ready shortly and the runner just dropped it off at random without even trying to give it out accordingly. I then witness a group sit down at the table next to us and the same server that ignored us for 25 mins made sure to check in with the three ladies sitting there in less than 5 minutes. I wonder if our group was dismissed for being obviously gay? We had to flag the server down for our check and to pay. The food was mid, average bar food with nothing worth coming back for. The music was also so loud you had to shout to be heard. When we finally left, we tried to leave out the left door and a man yelled at us to go back inside the building and put the entry door. The entry door was being blocked by a big crowd and the hosts and security were doing nothing to attempt any sort of crowd control and we had to shove our way out. This was the second day of their Halloween Town popup and it was AMAZING. Fatima was so awesome and got along with our kiddos perfectly. The food was absolutely amazing as well, I swear it was the best cheese curds and spinach artichoke dip that I've ever tasted as well. The titles of the food and drinks were so fun, and all the kids loved their "spirits without spirits". I would go again in a heart beat. So the vibes here are super cute. The waitress was pretty attentive. I did feel a bit bad that they had to wear this little skirts and crop tops. Our waitress kept pulling hers up as if she was uncomfortable. We ordered a Detroit style ricotta pepperoni, a carne wood fired, chili wings, and calamari. My friends enjoyed the calamari. The wings were pretty good but not mind blowing. The Detroit pizza was superior than the wood fired here. Solid but nothing to write home about. Gave this place a second chance and wow- definitely shouldn't have. They seem to do pop ups frequently, first time we came was during their Christmas pop up. Tickets were already pricey just to get in, but we thought it was worth it because of how fun and festive it looked. We bought the tickets and made reservations. As soon as we came, there was a long line to check in. Everything was kind of unorganized, and it definitely took awhile to get us seated. Once we were, it took forever for the waitress to come. Keep in mind, online it says you can reserve a table for up to an hour. I understand it was a busy time, and definitely try to be reasonable in these cases, but it LITERALLY almost took an hour to even get 1 round of drinks. And during this time period we did speak up about it, as waitresses walked by we asked 3 separate times if a waitress will be with us soon for our order. And not even in a pushy way, we waited awhile before asking again each time because we didn't want to be rude either. After we did get the drinks, it took another 25 minutes roughly for the waitress to check in again, we already were done with them and honestly just wanted the check so we could leave because the wait time was too long. ANYWAYS I saw this new pop up, recently for Wonderland, and they're hosting love island watch parties. I figured for my birthday that'd be pretty cool, and while we did have a bad experience before, maybe things would be different because we're going on a week day, maybe more staff, who knows. Nope, this is somehow worse, because I can't even excuse it as for being busy, it's just straight unprofessionalism. We booked for 7:45, we did come a few minutes late, like maybe arrived at 7:48, however online they have a 15 min grace period. Anyways there was a line to check in, I overhear the woman in front of me being told they had to give up her reservation, and asked if she could sit at the bar. By the time we talk with the hostess, she goes "so actually we have a 10 minute grace period here and we had to give your table-" I literally show my phone with the reservation, and time, saying "oh, but it's only been 5 minutes. We booked for 7:45, it's 7:50." She pauses, and says "oh" "okay well unfortunately there's no tables, do you mind sitting at the bar? Or we could sit you at our sister restaurant (Moe's Cantina) next door, they are hosting love island as well" which okay at least we got a table there instead. In fact they were super nice there, so that's a blessing in disguise honestly lol. But the fact you would literally lie to my face about the grace period- is frustrating. Okay maybe while it says online there's 15 minute grace period, and could be incorrect. Saying now it's 10, but it's only been 5 minutes??? What's the point of making reservations if you give up everyone's tables. The real cherry on top is the fact they marked me as a no-show on OpenTable, marking it against me. (OpenTable did resolve this later with them but is still a bit of a slap in the face, the fact they claimed that in the first place.) Honestly seems like they just like the cash grab of being trendy with new decor while the actual service lacks. read more

We randomly came in while we were walking around in town, checking out the holiday lights and were really happy we did. It happened to be a night where you could get pizza for 1$ if you spent 20$ with a bar tab. Which we had planned on anyways, so that was a definite bonus. Our server was fantastic and friendly, great list of drinks and beers, and it was a decorated for the Christmas holiday. The pizza was pretty good too. So I was able to go to the tree house on an early Saturday afternoon with my brunch group I haven't wanted to tried this place for a while so this was the perfect opportunity Definitely recommend getting spot hero cuz parking can't be kind of iffy if you go past noon We had a party of eight and they let us sit. Even though most of our party was running behind they didn't really get to bent out of shape and let us be seated as we arrived I went with my tried and true chicken and waffles. They have a double portion of waffle more of a square shape than an oval or circular shape. Waffle plus you get a nice size of chicken and also topped with a fried egg or over easy. I went with the fried egg and they did overcook it more than I would have liked But the meal was 8/10, but it was so weird how they would bring the food out. They bought this one young lady just her bacon. 20 minutes later she got her waffles. 5 minutes later she got her potatoes. Nothing came out uniform. Everything came out singular. That's why I was glad that I just got my chicken and waffles and a side of potatoes on the side. I didn't have to wait too long to eat. Nothing got cold so it's perfect for me. But some of the young ladies really had to wait for their meals. And another young lady. They just totally forgot about her other order. They took it off the bill. But that's besides the point you come to eat. You don't want your food to be forgotten about So for ambience and cute pictures and cute Instagram photo op it's great but far as service food service it definitely needs to be revamped. We were seated and it took a minute for our server to approach us. If this place was busy, understandable but it wasn't. We asked for bottomless but was told we'd only have an hour since bottomless ends at 2. This is not noted on the website, brunch is listed until 3. So we did not get bottomless but decided to share a bottle of champagne. When ordering we were asking about substitutions/alternatives. This is where problems really started. We were told "the kitchen barely makes what's on the menu.". Red flag. We were told we couldn't order wings until after 3pm (even though chicken and waffles are on the brunch menu). We place our orders and my friends orders Steak and potatoes with an egg fried hard. The egg came out runny the first time. They brought it back. And never returned her food. The restaurant: Nice space! The decor is fun and energetic, lots of TVs around to watch a game, good mix of booths and high-tops. When we arrived on a Thursday at 7:00p there was plenty of seating, but it filled up an hour or so in. Thursday is Throwback Thursday, so they played early 2000s hits which was fun. You can go casual or dressed up (although this is definitely not necessary, but good for pics with the decor). The food: We ordered a Detroit pepperoni pizza and an appetizer basket. The sweet potato fries were delicious, and the chicken tenders were good, not great. The pizza didn't stand a chance, we devoured it! I would get that again, the crust was wonderful. Thursdays also had Tito's $8 specials, so this worked for us. The service: Our waitress was very attentive, checking on us every so often and making sure our drinks kept coming. So my friends and I came here with a group of 6 for the Taylor Swift mimosa party event. First of all, really cannot go wrong with a Taylor Swift event. Gotta really f*** something up to make it go wrong! I rated a 4 only because I wish there were more tables for us to sit at. The service at the bar was very quick (tip your bartenders!!!!!) and the music and group of people here was unbeatable. It was a 3 hour event for $25 which is a hell of a deal for unlimited mimosas. I like to think that I got such great service because it was empty so all eyes were on me and my two friends ( because trust me, I read these reviews and they were brutal so I knew I was taking a chance). We ordered one more margarita and I order the drink - a Lenny Kravitz. Get the Lenny!!! You will be feeling reallllll nice after just one. we also placed an order for the Dead Pool and opted out pepperoni for chicken since two of us don't eat pork. Easy switch out. No issue. The issue all came from the pizza and I'm so sad to write this but Jet's Pizza serves better. When the pizza came it's small, the cheese was underneath the rack and there was baaaaarely any chicken. The atmosphere was cute and definitely instagrammable. It's also a rather large place. I'd say the ambiance was a 5/5. The drinks were standard and nothing super creative or amazing but good enough. The highlight was their detroit style pizza. It was hot, crispy, cheesy and cooked well. It's hard to find a solid detroit style slice in Chicago and this definitely hit the spot. The other food items were mediocre. We had the chicken strips were a little over cooked and dry. The fries and dipping sauce were good. The burger, which we ordered medium, was cooked well done. Again, the fries were very good. The wedge salad was delicious though. The mushroom vodka regular pizza wasn't bad either, but I wish they'd left it in the oven a few more minutes. I think I'd come back for happy hour because the happy hour menu and prices looked pretty reasonable for the quality of food and drinks. Finally, the service was a little slow. We got there at about 9:30 and there was no wait and we Sat ourselves in a big booth. They're the nice raised U shaped ones. There was a fantastic deal that night (a Wednesday) that was $5 for a margarita pizza and $3? Domestic beer. The pizza was savagely delicious and Massive. Easy to share with 2-3 people.
