This was a super pleasant surprise. I didn't know there'd be a Squishable pop-up here. I owned a few of these cuddly round stuffed animals already, and naturally I bought a few more. There was a wide selection of stuffed animals and accessories, and a wall/backdrop to pose for social media. I ended up getting a Sakura Dragon, a nigiri, and a little strawberry milk. Staff was super friendly and happy to answer questions.

The image shows plush toys arranged on store shelves, including two rice ball characters with smiling faces and blush cheeks, and three popcorn plush toys with cheerful expressions. The popcorn plush toys are red and white striped, with one featuring a 'POP!' label. The rice ball plush toys are white with embroidered facial features, and one has a small green leaf on top. The toys are displayed in a retail setting, likely a gift or toy store.

Our hotel was only a 10 minute walk from Pop Mart so my friends and I knew we had to drop by. This store is a lot larger than ours in San Diego so there was ample space to walk around and I didn't feel super pressured by others. The team here greeted us right away and asked if we needed a shopping bag, I was only getting one and I knew having a shopping bag would definitely cause me to add more. They had so many options for Cry Baby I really want them all but only chose one. Obviously they're blind boxes so I ended up opening it in store and immediately latching it to my purse. Again there were so many options, I even saw the tempura shrimp Labubu ipod case. I would have snagged it by my friend bought it for me for my birthday. If you're in Chicago and shopping I'd definitely drop by here and pick up a little trinket instead. The prices do range depending on what you purchase but I think mine was $32? So worth it for me.

The store is well lit and laid out so you can shop by collections but be prepared to spend some dough on a pop collectible or a trendy gift. I needed a cool cocktail after the busy store so we headed past Nordstrom to Lao Sze Chuan on MI Ave for a Lycheetini. (And I think my Labubu appreciated the lovely tone of my Lycheetini)!

They had ice-skating, ax throwing, bump cars, carnival games, stores to buy Christmas items, a sketch artist, Santa was even there and of course tons and tons of photo ops. They had a good selection of food, soups as well as warm and cold drinks. Mullet wine was delicious and strong. They had ice-skating shows every other hour and places to warm yourself; like log fire pits as well as cabin tents that had heaters. They have various packages you can buy that is inclusive of Games food and ice-skating. You could just go for a photo opportunities as well. Everyone was very helpful and kind and I do think you get a lot for your money. This is great for the family or for date night.

It was really nice to enjoy all the attractions and the lights without having to fight people for space. It was quite easy to take photos of all the decorations too. I paid for entry and ice skating, and while I'm not much of a skater myself, I had a nice time on the rink! If you're a more distinguished skater, you might want to bring your own skates, but I have a feeling you'd be doing that anyway! The bumper cars were surprisingly funny and I had a good time figuring out the control configuration that would let me optimize rear-ending my sister as much as possible. The things they have on sale, nutcrackers, candies, hats and sweaters, were surprisingly well priced. The food and drinks were also well priced. In Fulton Market, at a pop-up, you become a little cynical and expect insane pricing but it actually was quite fair. I picked up some cute cookie tins as a last minute gift. All in all, the Jack Frost pop-up was a lovely surprise and with its excellent location in Fulton Market, you have plenty of dinner options for later! I do highly recommend a weeknight to avoid crowds!

This experience transcends culture and language. I also saw the premier of Okja (South Korea) before it was released on Netflix. Survival Family (Japan) was a favorite, Sad Beauty (Thailand) fucked my mind, and Dear Ex (Taiwan) brought me to tears. I've also seen gangster movies, comedies and artistic dramas. All of them are new releases and many of them are North American premiers. There is usually a Q&A with a director, writer or actor which helps me understand the story even more; I initially watch the movie through my own lens and then I learn about it from theirs. Asian Pop-up Cinema is Sophia's passion project. She painstakingly researches all of these movies even before they're released and makes meaningful connections in order to bring them to Chicago. They are from all over Asia, all genres and many voices. Most of the movies are high quality productions made by experienced professionals; however, some of them are lesser-known voices who have important stories to share. I come away from Asian Pop-up Cinema events feeling humbled that I was allowed to experience an Asian story told by Asian people. It is truly a privilege that Chicago has Asian Pop-up Cinema. I encourage you to check out the website and sign up for emails. The movies are inexpensive or free and shown at a variety of theaters in the Chicaoland area (but mostly AMC River East).
