APUC is a very cool, one of a kind Chicago event. A personalized boutique film Festival running for 8+ weeks in the spring and again in the fall, APUC shows an amazing selection of Pan Asian art house and big budget films including many world, North American and Chicago premier's. Recent gems include the North American premier of "One Cut off the Dead" one of the hottest " zombie movies on the planet, "Take Me to the Saitama" currently the #1 comedy movie in Japan at the time it was featured here. APUC even was involved in one of the few global venues that showed a free private big screen screening of the Netflix mega film Okja before it launched on Netflix.
Movies span from Korea, Mongolia, China, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia and everywhere in between. They are in every genre. Just about every screening has either the star, director of both in attendance. A Q&A session, hosted by a renowned Columbia College film professor or other Chicago film expert follows the screenings. The conversation with the audience is fascinating, it's like taking as film appreciation class. One learns to appreciate the film and film in general from a much richer and deeper perspective.
All audience members have as chance to take photos on the red carpet with the stars after the screenings.
The festival and film choices, which are amazing, highlight the commonality of human nature while showing viewers some fascinating and unique aspects of life in different countries.
In addition to the main screening venue at AMC River East, APUC pops up with special and often free screenings at various venues in Chicago and elsewhere.
