I was looking fo a place that delivered sushi because I was too lazy to go out (lol) and tree garden did not disappoint! They were quick and speedy with their delivery and actually arrived earlier than the stated tracking time which is a nice surprise. I ordered the avocado ball, chirashi don, and beef teriyaki bento box. The avocado ball was delicious, a lot of avocado and spicy tuna fake crab mix. I enjoyed the chirashi as well, their sashimi is fresh and has good texture. Their teriyaki was disappointing unfortunately as the beef was really dry and the vegetables hard and tasteless. The seaweed salad that came with it was also unusually soupy. I don't know if this was because of bumpy road from delivery causing sauce to spill over from the other dishes in the bento box but it made the seaweed soggy and not enjoyable. Overall, I would go back for their sushi and sashimi but probably not for some of the other fusion Asian dishes. Their delivery is on point and I appreciate that! read more

This place is very hit or miss. Today it was a miss. The rice was inedible. Everything was so drenched in sauce and overcooked that it tasted the same. Overall: 3/5 Value: Pretty good, $9.95 for a general tsos combo PLUS soup (usually a $1.99 value). Portions were fairly generous with good chicken to rice ratio. Food: I got hot and sour soup, which often says a lot about a restaurant. There was some intention and thought behind their soup - it wasn't simply left over scraps from the day prior poured into soy sauce vinegar water. It was pretty darn good. From the general tsos chicken, it's obvious this is an Asian fusion place - probably with Japanese roots. How do I know this? (Besides the fact that they offer sushi and Japanese dishes?) Easy. They used chicken breast only for their general tsos. Their chicken didn't have random pieces of fat and breading that is often deep fried and thrown into the mix, it was quite pure cut. However, I do prefer chicken thigh meat over breast as it is often juicier after deep frying. The sauce was ON POINT. Way better than the sauces at the other places I've reviewed in Newark. The rice, unfortunately was what knocked it at LEAST 1 Star. This "pork fried rice" had maybe 5 little scraps of cha siu. The rest??? Al dente rice. NOT GOOD at all. Overall thoughts: Would probably still choose this over other local delivery Chinese places so far for its sauce quality and value. Tree garden is one of the best places around to get Chinese food. It's not greasy and it's all white meat. The general Tsos is my favorite!

Pickup orders and service ridiculous slow. 1 guy waiting on tables and doing pickup orders. Nothing coming out of kitchen. 5 of us waiting for 39 mins so far. Door Dash also waiting. They left to drop off an other order that was getting cold in their car. Going to come back later. The reason I came to pickup was because delivery was an hour wait. This is almost as bad. TLDR; The oil used to fry their tempura was rancid and the waitress refused to take my sushi off the bill. Fake filler ingredients were found in their sushi that did not match the menu description. They also served me microwaved miso soup! AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE. Came here with my family for a late dinner around 9 pm on a Friday night because of all the glowing reviews. Boy do I regret it! The food and the plating I got looked NOTHING like the pictures already posted. It looks like they just put whatever ingredients are left for the night in my food or had the amateur chef working the shift. The General Tao's chicken we got was not the right color. It looked more like Orange Chicken with some dried chilis added. It tasted heavy on the tomato paste where as General Tao's is supposed to be more soy sauce based. The worst part was the plate came with a decoration carrot flower which ended up staining my little sisters' fingers red when she wanted to eat it. Why would anyone put food coloring in carrots (decoration or not)? That is so fake! For sushi, I ordered the Snow Mountain Roll and the Hawaii Roll. I was excited because it was $20 for 2 specialty rolls plus miso soup! Should have known it was too good to be true! The Snow Mountain Roll was supposed to have lobster salad in it but lobster was no where to be found. The Hawaii roll was supposed to have crab meat on top but it was imitation crab meat (kani), which by the way is made from fish! The menu lied! I even had to remind the waitress about my miso soup because she forgot to bring it. They must have microwaved it because the soup was heated unevenly and some of the tofu cubes were still cold. The worst part? The oil they used to fry the tempura in our sushi was RANCID! It tasted old like they haven't changed the fryer oil and over used it. My family tasted the rancid oil in the avocado ball but just ate it anyway because we were starving at first. We didn't want to be anal customers. However, when it came to eating the rolls we just could not do it anymore. The Snow Mountain Roll tasted like greasy old cardboard/newspaper, and we started to feel sick from the rancid grease. I called the waitress over and told her I couldn't finish my food anymore because the oil in their food was rancid. She got defensive and said "No body else complained today. We just changed the oil today, you want to check?" I said, "No I don't want to go see your fryer. You don't believe me? Try a piece yourself." She wouldn't and took the plate away which was still half full. She came back with the bill and said "Don't know what happened but we give you 10% off." 10% OFF was $5. No, the restaurant should have taken all the sushi off the bill, if not, made the whole bill free! People could have gotten sick from eating their old ass oil! This is the first time in my life that I let sushi go to waste. This restaurant is cheap and dishonest and lies about what's in their food. Not to be racist against my own people, but I thought fake food problems (e.g. gutter frying oil, fake eggs, dumplings filled with sawdust, etc.) only existed in China! I grudgingly paid the bill but I am going to call Discover and get a charge back. Too bad I could not use my Amex here. I would be surprised that this restaurant stays in business for more than a year. The rancid oil might be a fluke and generally the food wasn't completely terrible, but based on how cheap and irresponsible the owners are, that attitude is going to be their downfall. read more

The food is amazing. It's expensive but worth it. My only complaint is when I order food for delivering they give me 2 soy sauces for 5-6 rolls. I don't know if they are trying to be cheap but I'm sure I'm not the only one annoyed by this. For the price of the food u would thinking they could afford to give u more than 2 packets. I really hope the owner reads this and fixes the issue. This place is definitely a hidden gem! My husband and I moved to the area earlier this year. We are VERY picky about sushi, and always do our date nights at sushi places. We found Tree Garden on Yelp, and it has definitely been one of our best finds. The sushi is consistently delicious and fresh, and the prices are unbeatable. My favorites are the tempura shrimp roll and spicy tuna. My husband's favorite is the shrimp avocado roll. We have had maybe half of their selections and rarely find something that doesn't wow us. We also have had several of their non-sushi dishes, and they have all been fantastic. But we usually order off of their "maki roll combo" sheet, which gets you two or three rolls with a soup and salad for a VERY reasonable price. The setting is modern and clean, the food comes out quickly, the staff is friendly and attentive, and we are always surprised when the check comes- this is the least expensive sushi place we've tried, and the food quality and experience are consistently great. Oh and as you wait for your food, they bring you a bowl of crunchy fried noodle things and some kind of sauce to dip in, and it is seriously one of the most addictive snacks, like potato chips on crack lol. To be honest, I half considered not writing a review because it is such a hidden gem lol! We have never had to wait for a table, even on weekends. The restaurant is kind of hidden away in the shopping center, but other than that we have no idea why they are never busy. My friend took me to Tree Garden on Friday night. We didn't have trouble getting a table and the service was good. The restaurant is very low key and casual. The avocado ball was amazing and I will definitely order it every time we go there! I ordered sushi and got a yellowtail roll, tuna avocado roll and salmon avocado roll. The sushi was okay but nothing great, i think it may have been better if the rice was more fresh. My friend ordered a bento box which was bigger than I expected and it looked really good. Never again. My spicy tuna roll had more mayonnaise than fish. It wasn't even mixed in. And our sesame chicken - not sure it was actually chicken. It was puffs of textured something. More puff than texture. We spent money and went hungry because nobody at the table wanted to eat their meal. No wonder the restaurant was completely empty at dinner time on a Saturday night. You could not ask for better food or nicer service. The sushi is fresh and the Chinese dishes are spicy and well-balanced. The two-roll and three-roll dinner specials are a terrific bargain. You get a bowl of crispy noodles to dip in sweet and sour sauce, a salad, a cup of soup (the menu offers miso, but they will substitute hot and sour if you ask) and either two regular rolls for $10.95 or three for $13.95. That's about half the price of most all-you-can-eat deals, and for me, it's all I can eat and then some. read more

Tree garden has always been my go to Chinese/Japanese restaurant. Everything is usually fresh and taste amazing. I'm not sure if they had a holiday crew working the day after Christmas or something changed during Covid, but my meal just wasn't the same. I'd like to start out with the positives- their female delivery driver is amazing. She is very kind & considerate. She also is fast with delivering. But on the other side- I haven't had very good experiences with this restaurant. I was very excited to find this place because they offer both Chinese & Japanese. But every time we place an order there is a problem. They forget to send items, they give us the wrong items, the food just doesn't taste good. Delivery Disaster. My family and I have eaten here maybe a half-dozen times. The food is always good: fresh ingredients, skilled preparation, and delicious flavors. We wanted this awesome food delivered on New Years Eve. I ordered using the Beyond Menu app, which is easy to use and simple. After about an hour without food or a phone call, I called the restaurant. The manager apologized, saying they were very busy, but the driver was leaving soon. After 40 more minutes I called again. The manager then admitted they had forgotten the order. The driver was now en route, proving that she lied to me earlier. I asked her what she would do for me, a discount, coupons, a refund? She simply said she was sorry; they were very busy. As I was ending the conversation, the driver pulled up, an hour and 45 minutes after we ordered. I think the driver was honestly surprised when I said I was angry at the service. She repeated the line about being busy, but could not explain why I was not called or comped. And of course, the food was cold. The kitchen is great, but the front of the house needs to get a clue. TL;DR good food, don't order delivery. read more

The sushi is always fresh, the wasabi is not bland, and everything is presented nicely in the takeout containers. Easily some of the best Chinese food I've ever had. Fresh ingredients and spot on flavor. My Szechuan chicken was perfectly spicy. The platings are beautiful and the atmosphere is casual yet inviting. When asked if they serve beer or alcohol, we were answered with "not yet." There is a nice bar area set up in the back area and I'm hoping that they have a nice sake selection in the future. I hope this place sticks around. read more
