I liked that there was a furnace instead of Central heating because it produces a cozier heat that isn't as dry. It is a few minutes walk to town center, though the stores closed at 6 pm. Breakfast was quite nice- best hash brown and yogurt. I doubt I will ever be in this area again but I highly recommend this hotel.

We had the beautifully prepared and flavorful vegetable soup with coriander to start. It was smooth and creamy - really perfect for a cold, damp day. For the main entree, my hubby had the Spinach & Ricotta Tortellini because he was craving pasta for the longest time, and I opted for the Grilled Shannon Salmon. Both dishes were very satisfying and presented beautifully. This time I went rogue and paid for my own meal and was treated to a delicious braised beef dish and toffee pudding. Best meal I had on the whole trip was from a hotel and I still think about that braised beef. Oh yeah, the view is pretty good if you get a waterside view room. I unfortunately got a view of the roof, but I won't let that deter me from giving this place 5 stars.

The hotel is a short walk to King John's castle, St. Mary's Cathedral, The Milk Market, and various bars and food. It's a great place to call home base for a few nights. The farmhouse sits in a rural field, surrounded by Thoroughbreds and miniature horses. I didn't see any obvious signs, so it's unclear if one can visit or get close to the animals. The farmhouse has been built up over the centuries, and the owners Niall and Gillian Ennis manage the entire operation. Niall's skills in the kitchen are superb, I would highly recommend a dinner date or a simple stay-cation here. Ireland's beautiful green is due to the misty, rainy weather, so do take care and watch your step on external stairs or paths that sometimes become slick and mossy. Our 2-bedroom suite was accessible from just outside the main building - it would be perfect for a small family. Don't leave without having a sip of the famous Irish Gin and tonic made with The Pig's Elbow gin and tonic, delicious!
