What I liked: - great location by the street (O'Connells) but not too far from the train station (10-15 minutes) - great service by the young and attentive staff - good food: both at breakfast and at the upstairs restaurant. Areas that distracted from the great experience: - room key was problematic. Had to get it recoded twice in a 1- night stay. Wife's card had the same issue - room needs some refreshing and upgrades. WiFi doesn't work, room was dirty and dingy, more than half of the 10 channels on tv kept going in and out (picture and sound). The website boasts of nearby shopping and entertainment and the surrounding area is run down and sketchy. I wouldn't feel safe walking anywhere. Have to buzz to get in, and no one answers the buzzer so we had to wait for someone walking by the door to let us in. Do not stay here. read more

There was no hair dryer I had to call the front desk for one. The room key is for the lights but not all the lights in the room worked. It was hot in our room and I asked the front desk how I and adjust the temperature in the room and was told I couldn't. Not ideal read more

Limerick City Hotel is barely squeezing three stars out of me. This was my least favorite hotel of the four we stayed at during our visit to Southern Ireland. On the plus side, the front desk staff is friendly, the location is fantastic, there is a great Irish bar/restaurant in the hotel, and parking at the adjacent garage is partially validated, bringing parking down to 7.50 euro/day. The main areas of the hotel are fairly nice-looking, but the rooms don't match. I never felt like our room was cleaned as well as it could have been, and the bathroom really needs upgrading. There's also no counter space in the bathroom to speak of, which is inconvenient. There was, however, a lot of storage space just outside the bathroom in the large, mirrored closet, so that helped. Our tiny room came with a single and full bed, and I have to admit I got my best nights' sleep of the trip here. I also really enjoyed the book lights by the beds. There were thankfully a lot of outlets around the room (but good luck figuring out how to turn on lights and appliances, with the associated switches). The TV was small and way outdated. Nothing about our stay was a deal breaker, so stay at Limerick City Hotel for a quick trip if you get an amazing deal and don't mind the bare necessities. read more

This has to be the worst hotel I have ever stayed in! The hotel looks modern from the outside and the lobby but that where it ends. The staff was friendly and helpful with trying to find us the parking garage. With that being said, everything else was horrible! Our room had 8 patches of missing carpet, a rusty nail by the full length mirror, a ring of dirt around the tub drain, tiles with no grout so the wall was exposed, no heat, only two working light fixtures and paper thin walls. I do not know how this hotel has gotten such a high rating. I'm not sure how they can even let people stay here! Disgraceful! read more

Our room was spacious, clean, & updated. It only had one luggage counter/stand & very limited counter space in the bathroom. The shower nozzle was straight up over your head in the ceiling...really difficult to rinse completely. The buffet was the worst we've encountered on our tour so far, i.e. limited breakfast offerings & inferior quality. The scrambled eggs were all chopped up like crumbled cheese, link sausage had odd soft texture, & bacon appeared to be poached(?) rather than fried or roasted in the oven. The dining room couldn't accommodate all the guests, so we had to find out own tables in the pub across the hallway. read more

My husband and I enjoyed our one nights stay here. Somehow the hotel was not aware of our reservation so while it took them only two minutes to sort that out, they gave us free breakfast to apologize for the delay, which was completely not necessary, but we sincerely appreciated it. The people at check in were efficient but kind of distracted. There was really no welcoming feeling. We were given a room on the 5th floor. My dorm room in college 50 years ago was nicer. It was clean but very uninviting. The TV was from the 60's and it wouldn't turn on. The maintenance man came up and showed us the 3 buttons we had to push to turn it on. He asked us why we don't ask for a renovated room. He took me back to the front desk and set us up. He went beyond the call of duty. We actually got the room right next door. Brand new TV new beds twice as big much better. The breakfast buffet, included with our room was the worst. The younger women taking care of the buffet were pleasant but the older woman didn't seem to want to be there. If you have decided to go there book a family or better room and find an outside restaurant for breakfast. Most of the workers at the connecting pub were college age and great. Quite a good place to stay in Limerick in many ways: as with all Jury's Hotels and Inns, they are clean, well looked after, the Inns especially are good value for money (they sometimes have special offers too), and the staff are trained well and helpful and pleasant. This hotel is a bit noisy (at the front, where we were, anyway) being on one of the main roads through Limerick. Not too far to walk to the town and there's a handy shop/small supermarket/newspaper shop just down the road at the side. read more

had a really enjoyable stay, its central so you save money on taxi's everywhere but off the main street so not listening to people all night. Johanna on check in was great. the rooms are spacious and have all the amenities, didnt stay there too long as the bar was calling. very quiet but you dont mind because the staff are full of chat. The manager james kept me entertained until the barmaid Donna came on who had me laughing both nights (be warned, she is a liverpool fan). james was even good enough to open up the bar early for me on the saturday so i could watch the football.food in the bar was spot on, Donna will recommend something for you. all in all i wont be staying anywhere else when i go back to limerick. Now known as the Limerick City Hotel, it's a nice little spot right off the river in a bustling area of downtown Limerick. The rooms were a bit dated but cozy. Lovely front desk staff checked us in and gave us a map of the surrounding area. Later we took advantage of their in house restaurant. I don't believe you can order room service (the phone in our room actually didn't work, so we were heading down there to order regardless) but the gent running the kitchen at night was happy to take our order and plate it up on a to go tray so we could enjoy in our room. Had we elected to eat there, they had a MEGA HUGE screen showing the big rugby game down in the bar. The beds were soft as were the pillows. Our room had an interesting set up of one double bed and one single next to it, so it could sleep 3 comfortably. I booked through Expedia and I believe only paid 75.00 euro for one night stay. Decent price for the location I'd imagine. Limerick City Hotel is also located fairly close to the Shannon Airport (where we were flying out of the next morning). So this was a great option as it was only a 20/30 minute drive to our flight, but still located within walking distance of several pubs/restaurants and attractions. Not like staying at some crummy airport hotel. I'd have no problem booknig another room there should my life cross paths with Limerick Ireland again. read more

I have stayed here over the past decade or so when it has been owned by other groups but I must say the current owners have done a very good job with the place. The rooms are nice and always clean but the thing which really stands out now is that they got rid of the basement bombshelter cafe and have a proper pub upstairs now which is brilliant. We we stayed here last week we never left the place. They had live music and rugby on the next day and with a good menu and lovely staff thats all you need! read more

Great, affordable place to stay in Limerick. Centrally located on the River Shannon and walking distance to King John's Castle and St Mary's Cathedral. The rooms seem to have been recently renovated as they are very clean and updated. Staff is extremely helpful and the check-in process was quick and easy. Also seem to be a progressive, environmentally friendly hotel - room key is required to keep lights on, toilet has two flush modes, etc. Only odd thing was an attempt to order room service from the on-site restaurant. When calling the restaurant, we were told it wasn't an option even though there was an actual room service menu in the room. Mmmkkk. But overall, an excellent experience. read more

We arrived on Easter Sunday, so that may have influenced the poor quality of service we recieved. The front desk was not helpful at all. The car park is across a back street and there was no one to help with luggage, not even a trolly. The room has carpet that is loose and stained, the bathroom smells of mildew and the tv is a holdover from the 1990's with a crt! This is the 3rd hotel we've stayed in since arriving in Ireland and the most disappointing.On the plus side, the location is good if you want to see Limerick and the food in the restaurant was good albeit a bit overpriced. The lifts both worked which seems to be unusual for Ireland! If the front desk staff had tried to help at all, I probably would have given it 3 stars. There is a notice in the lift saying they were remodelling so perhaps some of these issues will be resolved as that takes place. read more

The location is excellent. It's located in the city center along the river walk. The rooms were slightly dirty, with dingy bathrooms and stained carpets. The beds were uncomfortable and the wifi was spotty. No breakfast. The pub located in the lobby has excellent food. read more

The rooms suck, the food sucks, and the staff is not friendly. Our first room was just painted a day or two before. The fumes were so strong, I couldn't take it. We moved rooms. The next room at 5 in the morning, we receive a call saying there is a leak between our room from the floor above. We needed to move rooms. Then came a knock on the door with our new room keys. There was no apology, no compensation, no nothing. Then for breakfast, we get there at 9:30, and they start taking the food away before we started eating. Not that there was a lot to begin with nor was it fresh. Just save yourself and go somewhere else. I wish we had. read more

Great location in city center. The receptionist at check was friendly and helped us figure out the best way to get to Shannon Airport the following morning. Our room was on the 6th floor overlooking the river and it was clean and comfortable. The bar and restaurant downstairs had live music but we didn't hear it and it didn't disturb our sleep at all. For the price and location I thought this was a great deal. We got a good nights sleep in a comfortable room with pretty views. read more

I've stayed here twice in the last 3 years. Rooms are spacious and have all the amenities however it's a little dated. Paid wifi is a bit of a negative along with the lack of room service. Food in the bar was pretty good however as I'm traveling with an infant room service is a must. Staff were very helpful (albeit light on) and a travel cot was available. Full Irish brekky for €10 was very tasty! Parking is a bit of a pain in the car park behind the hotel. All in all, not too bad. read more

This place was a DUMP! Based on people's reviews I'm led to believe that the rooms vary GREATLY. We were on the second floor, room 225. Our view...not a beautiful river but a 4-story parking lot and a pharmacy with a blinking green cross. The carpets are worse than worn, they are ugly red thread bare in many spots, the room darkening curtain was torn.. The bathroom looked newly finished, and they managed to switch the hot and cold in the shower, and the door looked like it had been kicked in on the bottom. When we flushed the toilet it made a huge moaning sound. None of the lights on the back half of the room worked, from the far side of the bed on. And worse of all is the pillows are huge thick bricks. I asked the head housekeeper (blonde, petite woman, 50's maybe) if they had anything else. She said she would get back to me, surprise nothing. Into the night, we kept hearing a door slam down the hall, after 3 or so hours I peeked out and a HUGE fight was taking place a few rooms down. I called the front desk and all I got was "yes, you're not the first to call, we're working on it". It had been going on for hours, and continued. Kick them out! They owe the rest of us who are there to sleep. We hotel probably about 50 days a year, this was the worst all around hotel we've found anywhere in the world. read more
