The Dunraven Arms Hotel sells a dream: old-world charm, four-star comfort, timeless elegance. What it delivers: no AC, no safety, no transparency, and a firm belief that if they ignore a problem long enough, you'll go away. I booked five rooms in April 2025 for a family trip. All five were unbearably hot. There's no air conditioning, and nowhere - not once - do they disclose that. During a heatwave, we were handed tiny plastic desk fans that felt more symbolic than functional. "The heat isn't on," staff said, helpfully pressing buttons on a thermostat that wasn't connected to anything. Performance art, not hospitality. But the heat wasn't the worst part. One bed had exposed staples and metal pins embedded in the headboard - right where someone's head would rest. I took photos. Raised it with management. Their response? "That's not representative." Which is strange, considering every single room we booked had issues. What you're paying for here is a dated property clinging to its past reputation, hoping guests won't look too closely. Tour groups come and go. Independent travelers? We're disposable. The one saving grace: the bar and waitstaff. They were attentive, warm, and clearly doing their best in a place that doesn't deserve them. I tried to resolve this privately. Gave them chances. Gave them time. They offered a token refund and shrugged off everything else. So here's what I'll say to the next traveler considering this place: If you enjoy sweating through the night, sleeping near embedded hardware, and being told your experience didn't happen the way you say it did - book the Dunraven. We rented the executive suite for 2 nights. It was luxurious and beautiful. Great service, great breakfast and dinner. Most comfortable hotel bed ever!! It was a dark wood colonial style bed. Loved the rainfall shower and claw tub. Beautiful view, just wished the windows were cleaned before arrival as many birds lived above them. Would highly recommend. Adare is a really cute town. The Blue Door restaurant down the street was also great for dinner. read more

The room and bed were clean and comfortable, and within walking distance to 4 or 5 restaurants and pubs. For one of the older buildings in Ireland, the room is quite spacious. The strange thing is that this room had a queen sized bed and a twin sized bed. I have never seen this in all of my travels - it was quite humorous to see actually. Beautiful common areas and beautiful grounds areas. Amenities: In room safe Built in hair dryer in the bathroom No air conditioning but the windows open, so no big deal No coffee maker in the room FREE, cooked to order, hot breakfast. Not just the usual "Irish Breakfast" that we found at most hotels. The parking flatout sucks! The lot was PACKED, the spaces were very narrow and so were the aisles. It was very difficult to back out of a parking spot - and I had a small car. The room keys are ginormous! It's like back in the day when you had to borrow a restroom key at a gas station, and there was a two foot wooden stick tied to it. I honestly don't know how they expect you to carry this thing around town. Luckily, I know how to operate a key ring, so I was able to remove the key from the giant tag and place it on my keychain. Upon check in, I was told the bar closed around 2am but when i tried to visit at 1am, they explained that they close early if it's not busy. I have found this a LOT in this strange little country. Because of my experiences at this hotel I refuse to return to Ireland, stay in a hotel without in room safes, carry cash, or use a travel agent again. Was booked here on an equestrian vacation in June 2002 by a travel agent. As a New Yorker, I never carry cash but through what can only be described as a comedy of errors with banks, AAA, and a travel companion's late arrival, I landed in the country with my entire vacation budget in USD. First stop in Shannon airport was to the Bureau de Change, who advised me not to buy travelers checks because I'd be charged to cash them everywhere. Instead, she advised to put it in the hotel safe when I arrived at my destination. (Thinking back, she must have asked where I was staying in order to confirm they had a safe, so was this an elaborate tourist scam?) At any rate, upon arrival I went to the front desk and gave the reception clerk a Manila envelope with my return airline ticket, passport, and a blank envelope (with my hard earned $1500 cash) to place in the hotel safe because they didn't offer in room safes. I got her name, but she didn't offer a receipt. Never having done this before, I didn't think to request one. On the third day, I go to the front desk and request my Manila envelope. Yep, you guessed it, passport and ticket were there, but no white envelope. I asked if I could speak to the clerk on duty when I put my valuables into the safe, but (surprise!) she was very sick, and would be for the next week (my stay was scheduled for 5 days). I ask for the manager, who tells me that Valerie? Victoria? Veronica? was one of his "long time" employees, and "very trustworthy". I asked how long, and he told me she'd been there two years. I told him in no uncertain terms, two years is hardly long tenured, and even if that were valid, then who would she steal from, the man that pays her, or the obvious foreigner? He remained willfully blind to the obvious. So now we're stuck there because I paid the travel agent months prior - we can't just check out and go to the hotel across the street, so it's just salt in my open wound for the duration of my stay. (The lack of support and later abuse I got from the sketchy travel agent who eventually went out of business for fraud is another matter.) To make matters worse, upon checkout 3 days later, I see a sign BOLTED to the wall of the reception area is a sign from the Irish Board of Tourism stating that "Any tourist who has any trouble at all while staying in one of their certified establishments is to receive 50 GBP as a token compensation for their trouble. Neither Mr. Murphy not his staff offered me that, even after I asked about it, despite my clearly distressing experience. I wouldn't recommend anyone stay here, ever. read more

The Dunraven Arms Hotel was a great place to stay. My husband and I stayed here for two nights while on our honeymoon in Ireland. We stayed in the small room that they had listed on Airbnb and were very happy with it but I am looking forward to returning and staying in another room to have an even better experience. The Irish breakfast that was included was one if not the best breakfast we had while in Ireland. I highly recommend staying here and I personally can not wait to return. read more

So it's that hotel in Adare? No not the good one, the community centre across the road! Nah I jest, it's a nice hotel. It's classic and comfortable. Staff are a tad blinkered on reception but they get there, aside from that pleasant and polite. Rooms are lovely, we took a suite and it was beautiful, duck egg and fresh whites. Complete with fireplaces and faux antique furniture. It's not the Manor but it's very nice if not a tad overpriced read more

This hotel has been around for a very very long time & is the epitome of Ireland & all it has to offer. It's open to guests & the public. Has a parking lot at the side of the hotel. It is in the picturesque town of Adare & is definitely a DO NOT MISS factor. If on holiday in Ireland you have to come here. Stay if you can, if not dinner or coffee or drinks at the bar. You will experience Ireland as it is today. It's expensive & dress should be smart casual. Food is great & do not miss the Hot Whiskeys & Irish Coffees by the open fire. We always make a point of stopping by while home in Ireland for a family get together. You will not regret it & I actually feel it will be one of the highlights of your trip. read more

A beautiful hotel in a charming town close to Shannon airport, Dunraven Arms was a great place to spend the last night or our Ireland holiday. We had a very large room with comfortable beds, huge bathroom and dressing area, couch in room, and they had fast easy check-in and check-out. Staff was helpful, even printing a google map to the airport for us. Breakfast was a plentiful buffet with many options and a ham carving station. Only downside was not staying longer. There is a bar and restaurant which we did not avail ourselves but they looked lovely and had sizable clientele. This was by far the most comfortable room of our trip. read more

Was at a wedding at the Dunraven Arms recently and I was very impressed. The part of the hotel we stayed in was in the original building and it was a throwback to many decades ago, in a really positive sense. Yeah, it was old school but it had the best of that. I stayed here two weeks ago while on a roadtrip around Ireland. I was so happy that the hotel was located on the main road in Adare, because my friend and I had been having some trouble with GPS guiding us on local streets in bigger towns. Also, there was plenty of free parking available in the lot adjacent to the hotel. Our room on the ground floor had a view of the garden. The room was spacious, everything seemed new and very clean, and I slept like a baby. The hotel is located in the middle of town - Adare is very picturesque, and there are several pubs nearby. The bar area is open and bright with tables as well as a proper bar. This is a place locals go for a special occasion to dine .It's a popular spot from what I was told for weddings. It's not at all trendy but it is upscale (without being stuffy). I had dinner there on Thursday night. The staff, from the owners to waitstaff, were very warm and friendly. For a starter I ordered the chicken and mushroon terrine. It was delicious. My friend had the whitefish tempura which he said was excellent. For a main course I had the hake fish special. The fish was cooked perfectly, and mildly seasoned. I will definitely be back when in Adare. It's a fantastic place in beautiful town. read more

AWESOME place! Breakfast is to die for! Dinner was great-men wear a jacket! Service was some of the best I have ever had at a hotel. Very cool bar to hang out in. The grounds are very clean and well kept. If you are looking for a more traditional American place room-wise, this is your place. Hope we have the opportunity to go back! The town of Adare is very traditional - only 200 residents and four pubs! Woo-hoo! Very nice people everywhere you go. Dunraven Arms Hotel is such a beautiful, classic and warm hotel. We stood one night but will definitely come back and stay again. Lovely staff; Hugh, Emily, John and Janet were very accommodating. Outstanding service. Even the guests of the bar area (Anthony O'Callahan and a few others) were very nice and pleasant. I give this hotel a 5 star (because that's all I'm allowed) but it deserves more. We also did the tour "The Cliffs of Moher" with Barratt Group. I was okay with this hotel until we had been here a few hours. The exterior is beautiful, and the decor is charming, however it needs a serious upgrade. The linens and pillows have been updated, but the mattress is terrible. The room was not cleaned well, we had towels on the floor and garbages that were not emptied when we checked in. The shower was the worst! I have traveled a lot and have dealt with many different shower setups, but this was awful! There was 4 inches of water in the tub the entire time I was in the shower. This hotel has so much potential, but needs a serious upgrade. I was expecting a lot more for the price. read more

I used to go for breakfast every time I flew into Shannon but I guess that the restaurant is now just for hotel guests and is not open to the general public. How I found that out is the reason for my one star. The guy who "greeted" me said "how many" and I responded "1 please". "What's your room number" he asked, and I said "Oh I'm not staying in the hotel, just stopping in for breakfast." To which his only answer was to shake his head back and forth like he caught me trying to steal a free breakfast. I guess he expected me to just walk away (or confess?) but I was so taken aback I asked "What does that mean?". He said they have plenty of hotel guests to serve and they would not be able to serve me. It would have been easy enough for him to say "Sorry we're full today" or "Sorry but breakfast is only for hotel guests now" but I guess it was just easier for him to rudely shake his head and expect me to walk out. read more

The rooms were hot and originally were put in a room above the lobby that was facing the street (even though we booked a garden room). It was so incredibly noisy that I couldn't sleep...AT ALL. On top of that you could hear through walls so I heard my neighbors talking and their TVs all night. There was no art in the room and poor lighting. Guest services did nothing for 24 hours (I literally had to go down in my pjs at 1 am to complain and my husband had to speak to the manager in the am. There's also nothing really in the town. Not the best experience would definitely not recommend a street facing room. Eventually, management put us in a jr. suite, which was quiet and nice, but again it took a lot of complaining to get there! read more

One cannot say enough about this hotel and the service they provide! We have stayed there a few times and each experience has surpassed expectations. The rooms are unique, relaxing, and spacious. The beds are comfortable. The staff never missed a beat; knowledgable with directions and history, accommodating with requests and dining reservations and overall helpful in every way. They even printed a large pdf file, twice. They are cheerful, polite, and very professional. Breakfast and dinner were excellent and first class. The wait staff are quick and detail orientated. The hotel itself is so full of history, one could spend hours exploring the halls alone. We will certainly stay there again and recommend it to anyone traveling to the area. read more
