Concierge was the best part of my visit. Hostess was nice. Food was decent. Server was horrible. Inattentive, standoffish, maybe racist.

We made an online reservation for Sunday night, 5/29, but found out later that they are closed the Sunday before Memorial Day. The manager, John, personally called me and apologized for the miscommunication and went above and beyond to make it up to us. We will have to miss Tre Rivali on this trip to the Historic Third Ward, but we will definitely be back based on this outstanding customer service. Thanks, John! read more

Everything about my experience here was very good. I'm not sure why, but I had low expectations and they were certainly exceeded. The staff was great. Really great. The server was attentive and personable and tolerated our indecision. The busser consistently complimented our choices. The hostess was cheerful. The food was really good. We had amongst us a cheese pizza (yummy), the tomatoes (good - I think I don't like ricotta on it's own), the beets (love me some beets), the gnocchi (little pillows of wonderful), and the swordfish (so good). To wrap up we had a butterscotch budino (top notch). I'd eat them all again. The meatless selections here are all sound awesome and everything I tasted was flavorful and filling without being forced. Great service and can easily make a reservation online. Went with a group for a late brunch on Sunday and everything was great. The servers were very accommodating to our group... and patient! It also just smells good inside the restaurant. I had an open faced tomato cheese tartine which was super gooey and delicious. Carrot soup on the side was u like anything I'd ever had... similar to tomato soup; but carrot! I would love to make at home. We also shared a toffee bread sticky pudding that was AMAZING with ice cream melted on top. Will definitely be back! read more

Superb is the 5 Star recommendation we give Tre Rivali restaurant. The ambience is very comfortable with a sophisticated classy decor. We enjoyed having the most friendly, always smiling, professional and very knowledgeable server, Sarah Grey ( the best way to spell it!). Sarah recommended the Grilled Octopus, which melted in our mouths, along with a unique delicious Brussels sprout salad with apple cider mustard vinaigrette belly croutons and meatballs that were Bill Kimpton's favorite dish! I went here for an early dinner before heading to Summerfest and was excited to try the new establishment. It's a clean bright space although nothing overly alluring about it defiantly has a great location and resides on the first floor of the new Kimpton hotel. Knowing it had only been open about 10 days I wasn't sure what to expect but the service was very good and everything flowed as you would hope for in a fine dining establishment. The wine list is well thought out and although a bit too pricey has some nice options. I do think they need a wider selection available in the $40-70 range. As for the food we tried a variety of things and all we very well prepared and seasonal. I would say in some cases such as the gazpacho it was overly flavored with garlic or other dishes like the gnocchi they fell a little on the bland side. Overall though they did a great job and a solid 4 star experience. I would defiantly go back. read more

A few girlfriends and I went this week and enjoyed this place quite a bit. We sat at a table looking directly into the kitchen, which was like dinner and a show! The service was very good including the hostess, waiter and food runner. We shared the paella arancini and cheese plate. Both were nicely presented and tasted good. I had the spaghetti for my entree and it was very good. I'd definitely order it again. I wanted to try the churro ice cream sandwich so badly, but they'd already run out for the night! I made a dramatic looking face into the kitchen when I found out and it was very hilariously returned by what looked to be a manager in the kitchen. Wish I could give this place a 5, but there are a few things that I just disliked! 1) Visited on a Sunday morning around 10:45. Were notified that the only available seating was at the bar, as the remaining tables were reserved for reservations until 12:45. Mind you, the restaurant was currently almost empty but I respect that they honor reservations, so we seated ourselves at the bar. When we signed our bill & walked out at approximately 12:10, the restaurant was only less full than before! No more tables has patrons at them. It cannot be coincidence that 100 people cancelled or didn't show up for brunch reservations - I believe this was poor management on their end. 2) Service timing - so slow! When seated (at the bar) we were given menus, but it took almost 10 minutes to be served water and another 5 for coffee. Then, we had to ask to order our brunch. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time (and was DELICIOUS!) but then again, our dirty/empty plates were sitting for at least 10 minutes before they were cleared and then, after 10 more minutes passed, we had to ask for our bill. 3) Breakfast Pizza - order it, but ask for it to be cut for you. When it came out, I was not offered a sharper knife so I attempted to cut it with my bread knife - not a good plan. So I asked for a more sharp knife and, yes; it was sharper but I should not have had to struggle to cut this pizza when it could have been easily cut in the back for me. All in all - 3/5. We had great food and great service here tonight. We came early to our reservation and rather than have us wait at the bar, she rearranged the table layout and sat us immediately which was great. Sarah our waitress was attentive, helpful and friendly. The carrot soup and black cod was fantastic. We split the cheesecake with pistachio ice cream and it was the perfect way to top off the evening. We'd go back again and again. read more

Went there first time with a group for a birthday. All the entrees we tried were really good, actually delicious. Service was wonderful too. My/our only gripe was the price of cocktails...$15 or more for a cocktail and wine by the bottle were exorbitant. Shame on them. This isnt Chicago or New York. I'm sure everyone would have had at least 2 drinks if the drinks weren't the same price and some of the entrees. Everyone had one. That's the only bad part. Everything else was wonderful. I have been here many times and all have been fantastic. But... I went with my husband for our anniversary and I CANT STOP THINKING ABOUT GOING BACK! We were greeted with a champagne toast ( classy touch!) and then given some amazing recommendations and explanations of the specials ( we took our server recommendation on the Brussel sprout salad with deviled eggs. I'm literally craving that salad right now). We also got the filet special and the maracapone ravioli. All spectacular! We finished off our meal with the blood orange pavlova dessert. - off menu just available on special. It was what dreams are made of and I want more stat. I want to go back ASAP. Phenomenal is the best way to describe Tre Rivali. We live in Chicago, home of some of the best restaurants in the country. We would drive to Milwaukee solely to dine here. The octopus is amazing but the tomato tartlet was even better. Due, in part, to the fact that I would never order it on my own. Our waitress suggested it along with the dessert which was unreal, as well. The Executive Chef is also a pastry chef so all of the dough-related items are amazing. Stay away from the pound cake dessert -- it is regularly recommended by the staff but we found it dry and not so good. Otherwise, the entire place is first rate -- Best in Milwaukee. read more

A strong addition to the Third Ward, Tre Rivali offers a strong cocktail program and a well-crafted dinner menu with a focus on small, shareable plates. The highlight of the evening was the octopus. When cooked properly, octopus has soft texture without any hint of rubber. That's what you'll find here. Another highlight was the whole branzino fish. I don't understand why more restaurants don't offer whole fish on the menu. There's simply no better way to cook it. For the smaller plates, I thoroughly enjoyed the burrata. The flatbreads were OK, but not anything I'd specifically drive to the restaurant for. Service had a hiccup or two, but they were recognized and taken care of. Brand new 1st floor restaurant in the new Kimpton Journeyman Hotel. The cocktails are fantastic. I tried their bourbon specialty drink and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food is phenomenal. The octopus dish was some of the best my father has had in 30+ years. The branzino was great! Flavors were balanced, and presentation was on point. My only complaint came from service. Our server, Kevin, was very nice but did not do a great job of explaining the menu and portion sizes. We did not receive any recommendations, or assistance with navigating the menu. This was upsetting because some of the portion sizes were not very clear and if he would have spent just a LITTLE time introducing us to the menu, our choices would have been easier. He was really helpful, offering suggestions for both food and drink, bringing our food promptly and checking on us to make sure everything was going well. Food - Really good. We had the charcuterie board, the octopus, and the steak. All the food was good, but I really liked the mustard, this one kind of bread on the charcuterie board, and the seasoning and flavor of the potatoes with the steak. Ambience - Nice. We had the most wonderful meal. We started with a small plate of arrancia paella. Each bite was simply bursting with flavor. I then ordered one of the specials, softshell crab with a super light and bright breading over fresh assorted veggies and the most wonderful aioli. I grew up on the jersey shore eating soft shell crab, and these were the best I have had. My husband chose a pizza which was delish. What a classy little place! Such a good find in mke! My coworkers and I recently came in for a happy hour and it was so much fun! The cheese board was absolutely amazing and would recommend to get with anyone to share! It was super nice that they came and gave us a little history on each cheese and meat and where it came from! Then we got two margarita pizza which were good but nothing over the top! The drinks were also fabulous. I got the winter sangria and it was pretty boozy with a cinnamon taste at the end that I really enjoyed! They had great deals on wine and beer from 2-6 and which is why we came in! I only wish that the happy hour would be later in the evening due to us leaving work earlier we probs wouldn't normally be able to make this time frame! The main reason I keep returning to Tre Rivali is the Carrot Gnocchi. Heavenly sweet pillows of pasta accomplished with tender Thumper sausage bites... and there's plenty of other items on the menu to do a little "exploring." Leah from Chicago had about the same experience with Tre Rivali that my husband and I just had, except we were foolish enough to order more food than we should have and chucked up a $150 "loss". When this restaurant first opened, it was always packed and I'm guessing it was the newness of it, located in a cool hotel. And we've eaten there once before to a pretty decent experience. Stopped in here on a whim last night, and had the HIGHLY salty octopus, plus steamed mussels that had a really off-putting flavor combination, and some corn soup that was fairly flavorless. Do they taste their recipes? Service was OK, but it was a really slow night. I would suggest if you want to eat here, their tomato goat cheese tart is quite good - just get a couple of those and some drinks. Save up your bigger appetite for tried and true gems in the area - like Harbor House, Hinterland, or even the Milwaukee Ale House. I just get so disappointed in places that charge a good coin and don't deliver. read more

I should have known there would be trouble when I ordered my bourbon neat and it came with ice. Downhill from there. Ordered the cheese plate and Arancini. Cheese plate was good, but the Arancini was extremely bland. For the main meal, we ordered meatballs, octopus (on the recommendation of the staff) and the Brussel sprouts. The meat balls were bland, the Brussel sprouts burnt and the octopus was overly citrus. While the food left much to be desired, the service was good and the ambiance was nice (minus the overly loud classical music playing). Overall, we will not return. I had the Greek yogurt. Just what the doctor ordered. Creamy Greek yogurt, homemade granola, and the "good" fruit. Raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and bananas. Came for a dinner date a few weeks ago. It was really a lovely experience from start to finish! I had made a reservation rather late in the game and was only able to get a slot for 2 at 8:45pm. We arrived a little early and the hostess was happy to seat us. The restaurant was bustling and had such a fun and exciting energy about it! Our server was kind, attentive, and very knowledgeable about the menu. We tried a wide variety of items on the menu. I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and experience some of Chef Heather's creations. Although wonderfully executed, not everything was my taste. However, I would attribute that to my under-developed pallette! ;-) All in all, for the price point, it was everything one could want in a dining experience. I'm looking forward to coming back for lunch and also checking out the rooftop bar, maybe when the elevator line isn't so long. read more

Tre Rivali is becoming one of our "go to" locations for a relaxing adult dining experience. First let me say that I love the Kimpton Hotel chain which houses Tre Rivali on the first floor of the Kimpton Journeyman in the Historic Third Ward. If I did't live in the Third Ward I'd want to stay at this hotel. That being said Tre Rivali maintains the Kimpton high standard of amazing environment and amazing service. The restaurant has out door seating on Broadway, inside casual market style seating in the bar area and more refined seating in the main dining area. The feel is upscale with lots of business diners while the wait staff where jeans with oxford shirts. Thus dress up or dress down...this restaurant is ready to offer you a wonderful evening. The bar offers a great selection for wines and cocktails (Blanca Sangria). They will even make one up for you if you ask. The food is designed around a mature palate with the ability to have a large multi course dinner or a sharing of small/medium plates. Lori and I have shared the Grilled Florentine Steak which serves two along w/ duck fat roasted potatoes, fried lemons black truffle veal sauce. Do not pass up the Heirloom Cherry Tomato Tartlet which is in my top 10 best starters ever! Expect to pay $100 with drinks and an appropriate tip for two and to have a leisurely dinner that will be better than a "calgon bath" to de-stress you from your daily routine. I loved the margarita pizza! My parents came up from my hometown to visit me in precollege at MIAD and it was delicious!

This place was recommended by a friend. I took my boyfriend for his birthday hoping for great food and a romantic atmosphere. We got neither and on top of that, our server was rude and either the hostess forgot to tell her it was his birthday or she forgot/didn't care to bring a little candled dessert out. The tables are weirdly long which does not make for a romantic dinner. The pizza and clams were pretty good, but my ravioli were really salty. Wouldn't recommend for a date, but maybe it'd be good with a family/group and with a better server. read more

Worst service EVER!! My wife went to eat with a friend. Was put on the sitting outside waiting list. Never called. 40 minutes in approached the staff. Asked what was going on? They said there is a wait list. They replied, "We are on the list!". The wait staff said, and I quote, "Oh, we forgot.". Really???? Avoid at all costs!!! Young staff that has NO work ethic. Very poorly trained which is a direct reflection on the owners. There are many other options nearby. read more
