One of THE BEST local spots in Florence. Right by the train station it's hard to miss! I've been here twice in the last two trips I've been here and they never fail to disappoint. The family trattoria style food is fantastic. Seriously, I couldn't imagine Florence without this place. Highly recommend!!!

Came to I Due G after visiting the Duomo museum where many of the sculptures that were removed from the church are now placed. For dinner we went to Due G. We were the 2nd group in the restaurant. - Crostini Antipasto "I due G" - Taglierini with porcini mushroom / Taglierini ai funghi porcini - Pappardelle with wild boar sauce / Pappardelle al cinghiale - Beef steak Florentine / Bistecca alla Fiorentina - Sauteed spinach with garlic / Spinaci saltati The crostini was excellent. I thought that both pastas' were good. The porcini used were dried so they have a good flavor mixed with the fresh pasta. The wild boar sauce went well with the taglierini ribbon noodles. For the Bistecca we ordered a 1kg portion that we shared along with the spinach. Once again, the good was so amazing and we were so full that we decided to skip dessert.

I have lived in Florence for over 8 years. This is one of our favorite traditional and authentic Tuscan restaurants. Due G is a walk off the beaten path but still in the city center. The menu does not change which means they have perfected their menu. I have tried the Tripa Fiorentina at a few restaurants but have never been impressed. The Tripa at Due G is one of our favorite dishes here. Their roasted potatoes is another flavorful dish that is a must (my husband favorite side). I highly recommend the Spinach risotto. While most restaurants have replaced arborio (or carnaroli) with parboiled rice, DG main ingredient is arborio. If you love pasta, DG serves fresh hand made pasta with the traditional Tuscan ragu. DG also serves a delicious selection of vegetarian dishes too. Overall, I recommend this family run restaurant. If you plan a weekend dinner, consider making a reservation.

Zuppa di farro and penne with coniglio (rabbit)

Trattoria I due G is a great place for Tuscan food away from the tourists swarming the city during the summer. Found this place on Yelp that was just a stone's throw away from the train station and a short 15-20 minute walk from the Duomo area. There's not much else on the street, but seek the glowing green sign that will direct you towards delicious Tuscan food. We arrived fairly early (around 7), and were seated with no problem - however, it quickly got full and it seemed like most people made reservations. My husband and I both ordered a primi and split the secondi. The zuppa di farro (barley soup) was a winner, comforting and delicious. The penne with rabbit was cooked well, although we were hoping for something a little more unique tasting (as rabbit is not a staple of our usual diets). The grilled pork was juicy and tender, and my sensitive tastebuds were glad it was not overly salted. The garlicky spinaci saltati was the perfect complement. House red wine was cheap and tasty. The entire meal cost us about 35 euro. They have menus in both English and Italian and staff was pleasant (my mediocre Italian was met with a "Brava" instead of some eye rolling). Overall a very enjoyable meal.

Not bad but as my expectations was too much high so bit disappointed. We ordered the simple cooked menu so it might have been different if we had orderd pasta, risotto or trippa menu.

Excellent food and atmosphere. Walls covered with modern art, tables in white cloth. Simple and fresh food with good quality ingredients. Servers friendly funny and understood english and menu was available in English. Had the grilled pork and spinach. Both were amazing! Boyfriend had a huge T-bone steak and he was full despite it being the minimum 600gm size. Most surprisingly good was the fried potatoes (French fry style). House chianti was very good, refreshing. Chocolate cake was very moist and not too sweet. Great location next to our hotel Varsai.

We found Trattoria Za Za, but could not get reservations. We showed up with 60 people waiting in line like us. The line moved quickly and we were seated in a glass enclosure with nice views. The menu is vast and the food flying out of the kitchen looked amazing. An appetizer of lightly battered squash blossoms was unique and enjoyed by all. Our first choice was the green peppercorns and Cognac cream covering a steak with rosemary potatoes. This was the best dishes of our 17 day excursion. The steak was perfect while the sauce was incredibly delicious. The steak with argula salad was our second choice. It was also savory and highly recommended. The setting here is great, amazing food, good value and a truly relaxed environment. If you are in Florence, please treat yourself to a fine meal at Trattoria Za Za for that special evening. To the establishment, great restaurant and we will return. Congrats on a beautiful evening.

I had the beef filet with Chianti sauce as well as roasted potatoes. Our steaks were cooked to a perfect medium rare and the potatoes were so satisfying. We shared an order of grilled vegetables and had a carafe of the house red which we enjoyed. In fact, we loved everything about our experience. The food, the vibe, the service was all amazing! I went to the internet for the best Florentine steak and Trattoria Mario consistently popped up as highly rated. I reached out to the restaurant via email to make a reservation for a Friday. I wanted to get the earliest reservation possible, so the restaurant reserved me for 7:30pm, which was when they open. I was advised to show up on time - even a 2 minute delay would make me miss my reservation. I can see why Trattoria Mario was strict on reservations. They open on the dot, and then a staff member calls out each reservation at 7:30pm like a roll call. Seemed to me that if you don't have a reservation then you're out of luck, because there was no waitlist and the restaurant small and space was limited. Service was great. Our waitress was highly attentive and got us in/out of the restaurant quickly, which was what we were going for. Food came out in a timely manner. We ordered the penne al ragu, salad misto, and a Florentine steak to share. The penne was perfectly al dente, and I liked the meat sauce. I did find the pasta sauce salty, but it could've came from the grated parmesan. The saltiness was not a fluke. The Florentine steak was just pure beef and a ton of salt... too much salt for my liking. I also decided that I'm not a fan of Florentine steak in general.

Back in the…read morestates, I always get strange reactions from the waiters when I order my steak "as rare as possible." That is what I was expecting in Italy. Am I the only one that thought steak florentine was supposed to be served this way? Maybe that's was my mistake but I thought that's how it was prepared in Florence. Anyways, I was immediately suspicious when our waitress asked how we would like our steak cooked and her suggestions were medium or medium well. Uhhhh what? That goes against everything I believe in! The steak came out on a hot stone slab on top of a wooden box. The slab obviously continued to cook the steak so I immediately took off a few pieces to prevent this. The steak was thick and tender with chunks of large salt grains. It looked nice all sliced up but that's where the compliments end. It lacked flavor and ended up cooking to be more medium rare when I grabbed my pieces and then even medium by the time my dad grabbed his second slice. Our waitress seemed annoyed when we asked for the truffle sauce to accompany our steak (my dad forgot to ask for it when we placed our original order) and walked away with a huff to go grab it. The fries came out cold and limp with flavorless truffle shavings on top. I'm not sure why this place has such great reviews. Maybe it got too big for its britches and the quality has declined? The one saving grace was the crema bruciata! And the very understanding hostess who gladly pushed our reservation from 7:30 to 8:00pm due to travel difficulties. Whatever the reason, this place definitely missed the mark. You can't walk three steps without seeing a steakhouse here in Florence. My recommendation? Try one of those.
