Trappers is the perfect spot for good eats in LaSalle, MI. There is plenty of seating & family friendly. There are many of options on the menu, all delicious. It's been a go-to for late night eats for decades. I opted for a sampler platter on this visit, he ordered French dip. Our food was served up quickly with a smile. Everything tasted amazing. We've driven by this place countless times but finally decided to stop in on a Sunday afternoon, after my husband was tipped off about their roast beef/gravy sandwich. Trapperz had a Sunday afternoon regulars and family kind of vibe and was fairly busy. Service was prompt and friendly. Food was all very good. Great local place for a casual meal. Went there Saturday for dinner - we've been here many times before... We all ordered prime rib. This place used to have great prime rib. This time wasn't so great. I think we all ordered it medium-rare. All orders came out well-done+++. It was tough, flavorless and overcooked, really terrible even for lesser grades. I would guess the beef was maybe Select (it wasn't Prime and I seriously doubt it was Choice). Remember, Prime is a grade of beef. If you offer rib roast on your menu and it's not graded "Prime," it's a standing rib roast, not Prime Rib. No way was this Prime beef. The horseradish served with it was very fresh and strong. The jus was really bland and had almost no flavor at all. The side salad was well made (and Trappperz includes onion with their salads!). The baked potato was gummy, and the sour cream was served in a little packet that was room temperature - bleh! I've ordered cocktails in this place before. DON'T DO THAT! They have a full bar but can't make anything more complicated than a rum and coke or 7-7. Stick to beer or a glass of wine. I ordered a PBR and it was great, especially at $2.50. I thought it would have come in a long neck bottle, but it was served in a can. A glass wasn't offered, so I requested one. I don't mind drinking some beers out of the bottle, but drinking out of a can??? Oh, I did order the turtle soup waaaaay back when. Turtle soup is delicious when it's made right. Trapperz reminded me of Campbell's Vegetable Soup with some meat added. Huge disappointment. I do remember their other apps as being pretty good though. The waitress was great. I have been in the area for the last year recovering from a car accident, after being on the west coast for the past 20 years. I have been so bummed with the quality of food in restaurants in the area. This place surprised me, I was a regular every Tuesday for a while because of their specials. They season their food well here! Flavor is lacking at most places nearby. My only gripe is the garlic toast. Everything else is SO good, but that toast.. I throw it away when it comes with my meal. I need to remember to opt out. haha The woman attending bar on Tuesdays is a gem and is another reason I keep going back, great service and good food. read more

Tough one to write. I been wanting to check this spot out because one of my yelp buddies likes it quite a bit. Its about 30 minutes from my place so I'm coming a bit out the way. When we arrived no one greeted us. I was very surprised how out of the way this spot is and that it appears to be more bar than restaurant. He says he's uncomfortable. I say if we need to leave let's go. Now this is my birthday so he's trying to chill out. Tells me sit n feel what I think of the vibe. Look around. Its Sunday 8pm and its all white folks probably over 30 crowd. Tell the bartender its my birthday and get an oh OK. Now we had been out n about all day and every spot offered something. First drink free, free dessert, 10% off. Something. All I got was oh OK. Now I'm not feeling it but stuck it out because my man was kind enough to be my driver all day while I picked n chose where I went. Ordered perch dinner. He got some kind of steak medium. It came well done. He had to send it back. The wedding soup that came with the dinners was good. I wanted wine and only barefoot n sutter home available. Perch dinner was perfectly acceptable. Nothing great. I mentioned to the bartender that I was still hoping to find some birthday cake before the end of the day. I got silence. No offer of dessert or anything for the birthday. The guy next to me told me happy birthday n off we went. My man feels like there was some racial overtones and I do trust his judgment as he is not one to trip out over nothing. Like I told him we should have left when he said he was uncomfortable. I felt it was just crappy service but was not present for what he encountered.. Either way, sucky way to end my birthday. I don't usually write reviews, but I think this place deserves one. Driving by the restaurant this isn't a place I'd ever think to stop, but I saw some reviews here plus the menu and thought to give it a try. When we came in, it wasn't too clear how we were supposed to be seated, but honestly we only had to wait a couple minutes for someone to take us to a table, it was really busy at the time. The Trapperz sampler appetizer really had one of everything on it including fried mushrooms which I thought was pretty unique. The lemonade and all the sauces taste like they're house-made, I can't tell if that's the case but either way it was all really good. (The Buffalo Mac n cheese is the way to go y'all) If you like a country-bar sort of vibe, this is the place for you. I got a southern feel from this place which is nice coming from the city to eat here. If you don't like crowded (maybe it was just busy when we went, but) country sort of places, it might not be for you. On my first visit to Trapperz I was enthused as I walked in the door to a vibrant and busy place. Being Friday I went with the AYCE cod special. The cod was tasty and you get 4 nice pieces first time around. It took a little while to arrive, but it's deep fried and they were busy, so I understand. I put in my request for seconds and watched the Tigers as I waited...and waited...and waited. When two pieces of cod showed up in a paper boat, I knew I had to order thirds right away. But the real insult was that the seconds were NOT hot. For something deep fried that you wait 15 minutes for you're expecting it to be piping hot. I voiced my displeasure to the waitress and she apologized, and explained the two piece size of the order was the policy. She did help rectify things by going to the kitchen and bringing my thirds right out. But honestly that just reinforced my conclusion that they don't really want you to eat all that you can eat. They don't really want you ordering seconds. So sad. read more

The experience wasn't horrible. The waitress was ok, but the food was very basic. Got the frog legs cause it's the only place around and the legs were kinda slimy. Almost like it wasn't cooked completely. The fried food was completely saturated in oil. I understand you need oil to fry but it was a bit excessive. And the prices were way too high for the quality of food. Spend $30-$40 per person then you expect to get some decent quality food. read more

Local dive bar that really pops after work. It was super busy on a Friday night. Most of the regulars have grabbed the best tables by 5:30. We were there too late and ended up sitting at a hi-top wedged between the front door and the bathrooms. I felt like a seagull on a perch! Noisy and dim, with tables covered with local ads, it's not a place for a first date. It's for that person who knows all your bad habits and won't kick you out of bed for them! The hostess was friendly as were the rest of the staff. Everyone there knows the drill and moves quickly. Drinks were okay-we didn't order refills. The menu is extensive. They have turtle dinners, turtle soup, fried gator bites, frog legs, as well as soups, salads and regular entrees. My sister ordered the gator because I had never tried it and I can report that I never will again. It was stringy and something I can cross off the bucket list! Evan ordered the Green Olive Burger and I got the Betty's Salad. Her's was good; the olives were mixed in the meat and was cooked properly. For $6.99( extra for fries), I thought she got the best of the night. My salad was chopped greens, bacon, hard-boiled eggs and canned bean sprouts with a sweet-and-sour dressing and I thought it was bland. I ended up snagging some of her fries to get some flavor. We stopped in on a whim, not from the area at all. We were greeted and taken to a table right away. Our waitress was really prompt and super helpful. I had street tacos, and my husband had the perch sandwich with onion rings. We also ordered fried pickles. The food was really good. The only reason I have 4 stars is because the meat in the street tacos was supposed to be brisket. What I had was not brisket; it was roast. The tacos were ok. Ordered boneless wings and they were horribly salty. We ate 3 and left them. 2. Ordered gator bites and they came out dark dark brown and way over cooked. These are a favorite of my kiddo and she couldn't eat them for being so tough. 3. Ordered queen prime rib cut, cooked medium. Food came out cold and well done. The au jus was cold. Asked for creamy horseradish sauce, which waitress said was available and got pure horseradish. And was charged for king cut. 4. Waitress kept trying to take dishes away while we were eating. I'm rarely irritated by servers, but it felt like she was rushing us to get out. There were 2 adults, 1 kid, and all the food and 1 bottle of beer came to $82. A top down great Restaurant and Bar with some very good food options. I've usually gone in on the weekends and they've had a good a good Prime Rib dinner and they also had a good Tuna Steak dinner. Dear Lord this place has the largest menu offerings I've ever seen! They have a thing about Elvis and frogs. If you know that going in you will be OK. The have AYCE perch nights. Yep! Their appetizer offerings are close to 40! The hot pepper cheese cubes, fried asparagus and peel and eat shrimp were good. They also have frog legs and a whole frog that they fry up. No thanks. Lots of burger choices including an Elvis burger. Natch. Lots of fish choices too. Wraps, salads, pasta, you name it, they probably have it. Friendly staff and even friendlier patrons. My husband and I snuck away for date night without our son, and our babysitter suggested Trapperz due to their good burgers. First of all, this place was PACKED for a Tuesday. I didn't know bars were packed on non-football days? The servers were busy, and you definitely saw it in their hustle. We ordered the fried asparagus appetizer, which was really good and piping hot out of the kitchen. My husband and I both ordered burgers- they both came out cooked correctly and with GRILLED BUNS. My favorite! I had ordered my burger and had asked for "chilli cheese fries" thinking that you could upgrade the burger to come with that since they had an option to get fries, sweet potato fries, onion rings, etc. In actuality, my burger came with the standard chips and I ended up with a GIANT PLATE of chili cheese fries. It wasn't a big deal, but next time I'll make sure to be more specific- as I definitely did not need a giant plate of fries.
