As someone who's fresh from 3yrs on the west coast, this place may be suffering from reviews of locals who have lots of pubs with character from which to choose. I can tell you a place with history, a great draft selection, and local-feel is nearly priceless when looking for a local pub with good food, and this place has all those things. Would've given it 4 stars if wait staff was more friendly. Though, as a guy with a Yankees hat on, I did walk away happy to have not been engaged with any bitter debates on NY vs. PHI. We've lived in the area for over 10 years now and we tried this place out when we first moved to the area. What turned us off back then was the fact that smoking was allowed and even though there was a non-smoking area, you could still smell the smoke. Those days are long gone and the place is smoke-free now. It's pretty much your typical bar type food but the quality was somewhat better than I was expecting. Service was good and friendly. My wife had the special burger that night was was really quite tasty. I went with the cajun salmon which was also pretty good. Both of my kids simply had the kids chicken finger meal. My wife and I each had a soda and my one son had chocolate milk while the other had water. I was a bit surprised to see the bill come to close to $50. In the end, we thought it was a little overpriced, so not sure if we'll return or not. read more

Awful service. Went in to support local business and the Trappe is place I went too all my life and I have never felt so disrespected. One of the bartenders must think he doesn't have to speak to customers because he was 5 feet from me and had some one else address my question and then I could hear him talking about me afterwards. If you don't have or can't do what I asked then a polite no is all that is needed. I don't need some entitled bartender running his mouth and you doesn't the decency to say it to me. I love the owner of the Trappe and have had a few meals with him there over the years but, I will NEVER spend a dime in that place again. Treat people with respect. This establishment has some absolutely baffling rules regarding entry. I came here with a group where me and others were 21 years of age or older and we had 1 person that is 20. We were not allowed entrance because we were not the parent of the underage person. An older man also told me and my group to wear a mask in the parking lot which makes no sense regarding that we were a great distance from the building. The atmosphere was underwhelming even from the parking lot. The smell of garbage took over the outside of the store from the overflowing dumpsters. Overall, I was very disappointed with how we were treated as paying customers just trying to enjoy a meal after we entered the green phase. My family and I have gone here numerous times. My mother even had her wedding reception on the second floor here. Needless to say, we don't go back anymore. The food is ok, nothing great, but the service is HORRIBLE! Our most last trip, we waited a while for drinks and to place our order. We then waited about 45 minutes for our meal to come, and all we ordered were sandwiches. You might say "were they busy?", and I would say No! The place was almost empty. The people next to us asked how long we waited. They showed up after us and were waiting a while to. They said the last few times it has always been 45+ minutes for simple small orders to come out. We have lived in this area since 1996 and the Trappe has been a mainstay in this area..it is known for good pub food (nothing fancy) and occasionally really good bands. About 10 years ago, they expanded the deck outside to include a "sandy beach area". It's a little strange for the area, but it works! We have gone in the past, ordered sandwiches at the "normal dinner hour", had good service and decent food and been pleased. my review now is based on the experience tonight, based on a "Friday night experience". My friend was playing in the band tonight and so we decided to go out to support her (and also to have a night away from the kids) Upon arrival, we went to the outside bar to place our orders. I asked for (what I thought was) a simple and popular drink these days (an Orange Crush - whipped cream vodka, orange juice and triple sec - everyone else in our party ordered beers). The bartender had to go to the inside bar to make it. This didn't annoy me, but it did make me feel "guilty" for making him leave his post to accommodate me. After 2 rounds, we moved inside to see my friend play. The band was great (love local bands and the keyboardist was my friend - so what can I really say? ;-) ). We got waitress service for our table because we wanted apps as well as drinks. The service was "meh!" Several times we had to flag her down (and it wasn't busy during this time). At one point, she came over to our table to take our drink order and someone said something to her and she just said "excuse me" and left us. After the band started playing (and our friend knew we were there) and we decided to move back outside , it was a much more pleasant experience. We had no table service, but there was a nice breeze, service was quick at the outside bar. So why am I only giving it 3 stars? Velveeta! Been to Trappe many times over the years. Last night was a night to forget. Sat at bar with a friend for dinner and a few drinks. Worst bartender ever Chris. No personality at all. Walked past empty glass a few times. Had to ask 2 times for menus. He seemed annoyed since most of the time he was busy talking to people he knew at end of bar. When we finally were able to get his attention to order he was rude. When food came not the quality of past. While giving us a sandwiches our glasses were empty and never asked if we wanted another one. We bill came I always leave 20 percent tip. He just picked up money and not a thank you. The Trappe is a popular locals bar and it is also frequented by the Ursinus college students when school is in session. I have found that most of the bartenders and wait staff are friendly and nice. I think we locals love this place out of loyalty, convenience and locality. I agree with another reviewer who said the Railroad has way better food. The prices are too high here for the food quality, but the atmosphere makes up for it; it's a fun watering hole and they have a great back deck. Here are the foods that are great: prime rib, prime rib sandwiches, French dip, French onion soup, hoagie, burgers, fries, onion rings, crab leg night. These are awful: nachos with that fake cheese sauce, coleslaw, fake drawn butter for the crab legs. If I'm paying thirty six bucks for crab legs, please provide some real melted butter! read more

The Trappe Tavern is way overblown as far as bars go. The food is terrible, and the drinks are overpriced. However, they do have decent specials. Wednesdays are wings and pitchers, while Sundays are their infamous Silver Coin Nights. Aside from their specials, I'd find another bar. There are plenty more in the area. Basic bar, very much a local crowd. I was there on a Friday night. There was a live band, but not really a stage. It was a bit awkward how the band was right next to the bathrooms and the other bars, so you were walking past them all the time. The "beach" area is a bit weird, but is probably nice in warmer months. The food, wasn't terrible, it was basic bar food. I had a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon (cheese was blah with no option to change it). Fries were okay. There was a special for bud light on Friday night, I think $2.50 pints. If this place was located in Center City, I'd probably give it two stars. But considering that this place is out in the middle of nowhere, it's probably one of your better options for the area. We were out this way to attend a HS basketball game and needed a quick dinner. My husband had "heard ads for this place on sports radio" and wanted to check it out. Upon arriving, we were surprised how packed this place was. Granted, it was the Saturday night before Christmas and the Eagles were playing, so this may have been a fluke, but we saw it as a good omen for our meal there. I had the prime rib sandwich (I want to say it was called a Wranger Jr- slice of prime rib with Cajun spices, bacon and cheese). I was pleasantly surprised with the sandwich- I didn't know what to expect with "sliced prime rib", but it was pretty good. And for $8, it was a fairly priced meal. Fellow Yelpers have complained about service, but we had a good waitress who didn't mind that we sat there for an extra half hour to watch the game (without buying any more food/drinks). This place is somewhat of an enigma, and at any given moment you will find a mix of well dressed businessmen, motorcycle shit-kickers, and every bastion of femininity at all caste levels. The deck is nice, but the bottom floor definitely has a classed up dive bar feel to it. The upstairs areas are a bit more squared away. Still, the place reeks with a certain charm that is indescribable unless you've actually been there. The food is excellent. I've had everything from nachos to burgers to lobster dinner, and it has all been exquisite. Service, however, can range from great to downright horrific, and weekends become shit shows early. I'd like to see more craft beer selections, but they seem to be improving this area. I guess this review boils down to, "Go for the food, you'll likely find a good beer for any beer fan, but go early on weekends." DO GO, however, for an experience you won't soon forget. read more

Lunch and dinner specials daily to keep the menu fun, fresh food all the time, weekday specials such as all you can eat crab legs on Mondays. I am a fan of the French Dip, and the Ribs! The best part of the Trappe is the service, bartenders (Tim and Matt) and all the others are truly professional, yet in a manner where everyone has a blast. Great drinks, great people, great atmosphere...The Trappe Tavern is everything you would want you local bar to be. I go to the Trappe when I want Prime Rib. Cooked Medium it is exceptional and melts in your mouth like butter. I would give it 5 stars but its a bit dingy and the service isn't always the best but you can't beat the prime rib so I return whenever that craving sets in. Great place to watch the Eagles, Flyers, Sixers or Phillies! Loads of team spirit and lots of TVs. Usually great specials for wings and beer too! read more

1st time 1 went to eat here in several years. OMG horrible HORRIBLE service. It was 06-29-22 around 6pm and it was not full or busy. Our server (we had the last booth on the right across from the hostess stand (wish I had gotten her name) was quick in getting our orders of 2 lobster tails, chicken finger which all was delightful. I also at that time ordered their Carrot Cake. It took her close to 13 mins to get back to me to say they didnt have it. Another 8 mins passed everyone was getting their 1st course of their meal, she told me about 2 other desserts which wasnt even on the menu. It took her another 12 mins to ask me if I would like to order something else. REALLY!!!!????? She even recognized my friends who have been going here for 7-8 years!!!! You would at least think she would make sure their loyal customers & people at the table would have a great experience to come back. Well I grade them an F-. Used to have good food - came for apps and a dunch - could tell everything was frozen - shrimp mozzarella sticks... Nachos were blech - cheese wiz and chips with soup chilli on top ( stewed tomato type with big celery bits ) and shredded lettuce and onion meant for a sandwich. Completely down hill. Last weekend, I was out enjoying the evening with a number of my friends. We attended the Trappe Tavern in Collegeville PA to listen to one of our favorite bands Shot of Southern. At the end of the evening an incident occurred which was totally mishandled by the facility's security staff. At the end of the night, I was asked by several of my friends to check on someone in the lot who may have been inebriated and should not have been driving. Security for this facility thought that we were actually trying to leave on our check. However, several of our people were still inside dancing and three of them were standing with security outside. Two security officers proceeded to follow me through the lot yelling about who was going to pay the check. When several people had already explained that I was going to check on one of our friends to make sure that somebody was getting a ride home after drinking. Upon returning back to the building I was confronted by not only the two security guards who followed me, but about six other male and female bouncers who simply were trying to act tough and were doing nothing more than hassling me and my friends. I must say representing a facility like that, their behavior was nothing more than egregious and out of line. We had been there earlier that night, had eaten dinner and were served by one waitress. At the end of her shift, she excused herself and a second waitress introduced herself at our table. At that point we begin to pay for our drinks and other items using cash at the bar. We were not presented with a check at the table, because our table had been cleared and other tables around us have been torn down to provide room for the dance floor. Although most of us were still in the building, and we were planning to stay until close to enjoy the band, security had the nerve to follow me in the lot because they thought that we were trying to leave without paying. I must reiterate, that nobody was leaving without paying because we were still attending the event. Again this shows their lack of ability to properly observe a situation. On top of the fact that they did not recognize that somebody else was inebriated and possibly should not have been driving. Facilities like this should not be licensed by the LCB. There are strict standards and regulations to abide by when you're provided a license by the Commonwealth to operate and provide people with liquor and alcoholic beverages. In this particular instance, they showed an utter lack of concern for the public-at-large. What if one of these people had left the lot and have been totally inebriated, caused an accident or had been injured or injured others? In this case it was clear to my friends and also a number of witnesses who later complained as well, that I was doing the job of security while they were standing around chatting with each other and listening to music. Trust me when I say nobody was "skating" out on their check. We were doing the proper thing and checking on friends and others who should not have been driving. It Is obviously apparent that the facility and its security staff were more interested in chasing people around for what they thought was an open check rather than showing any concern or interest in the fact that patrons may have been in danger or endangering others. This is what you get when you hire untrained, mostly overweight people to work as bouncers, as well as number of college students who are obviously home for the summer and employed part-time as security .They overextended their authority simply because someone issued them a shirt that says "staff" and gave them an earbud com to wear around all night. Please note that I speak from experience, for the fact that I have owned and operated a few restaurants, one of which housed a catering facility and a nightclub. In comparison, our facility was about 20 times the size of this place and we took our duties more serious when we held events or brought in live shows. Unlike the Trappe Tavern, we took our obligation as a licensed LCB agent seriously. All of our security staff were off-duty police officers who were well trained in such matters and knew how to recognize and behave in such situations. In lieu of this horrendous experience and incident, my friends and I will no longer be patronizing the Trappe Tavern in Collegeville. Thanks to a number witnesses, who were not part of our group, and a couple who had taken a video, it was obvious that the facility staff was acting out of line. I was showing concern for a fellow person and doing what was proper and right, while their staff was being nothing more than boisterous and threatening. I'm therefore asking all of my friends, family, and acquaintances, as well as a listing of future bands and acts who are going to perform there, to share this post and boycott the Trappe Tavern. read more

Went there a couple years ago and thought it was pretty good, once I got a table. I had called in a few days ahead for a reservation for two. Despite the reservation, we waited close to an hour for a table. I called this week to make a reservation for this weekend and was told, "We don't do reservations for less than six." Maybe that explains the wait last time. Would've been nice to know then, but now that I know now, I won't be back for another hour-long wait. It wasn't that great! read more

Typical pub food that isn't anything to drool over. The nightlife here is what probably keeps this place alive. Being near Ursinus College, the weekends attract a large college crowd with a fun environment. They have a fun outside "beachy" area with lights and games and you can sit at a table and eat out there too. It's always packed though. The only downside is you're staring at a parking lot while you're out there and a shopping center, but hey, that's what you're going to get for Collegeville. The staff is always friendly and they have a decent drink selection. If you want to come without the crowds, come during the day. It's fairly empty (or at least not packed). It is no fine dining, but the food isn't bad. The rib sandwich is pretty good which I'd recommend, although there were a lot of fatty areas- but some people may like this! I also had a BLT that was pretty good that comes with plain chips. Prices are just average. Not sure if I'll continue to come here for food, but I'd definitely come back for a happy hour. read more

As I scan other reviews, I think people are missing the general point of the Trappe Tavern. It's supposed to be a local pub. It's place you can get out of the house to grab a beer and a burger, maybe meet some friends, catch a game, listen to music, and see everyone you ever went to highschool with. It hits the nail on the head. And the Wednesday and Sunday happy hour isn't bad. Since moving to CA I've come to fully appreciate the TT. I totally miss the cheap Yuengling, because I can't get any Yuengling for any price... And the cover bands aren't just half good, the fact that they exist is awesome. The food is above the classic bar food options, a little overpriced, but still "good." And the patio in the summer is the best one in PA west of Manyunk Brewery. Go for the drink specials, the bands, and that local pub feel. read more

During the school year, "The Trappe" really has the feel of a college bar (it's about a mile and a half down the road from Ursinus College). Decent selection of draft beers, standard bar fare (burgers, etc.), semi-nasty happy hour buffet. Lots of TVs, pool tables upstairs, some good stuff on the jukebox, and there's usually a band or DJ at night. It's also not a bad place to hit for a quick lunch. I was a long time patron there. Emphasis on the past tense. The food is slightly above average, but the service sucks. The waitstaff may be acceptable, but the bartenders (especially the cockeyed, bald guy) are surly and discourteous. When they get you a drink they act like they're doing you a favor. "What do you need?" rather than "how can I help you?" is the question du jour at the Trappe. You're much better off spending your money somewhere it's really appreciated. read more
