William Shakespeare (depending on whether or not you're a conspiracy theorist) once said, "Though she be but little, she is fierce!" - to me this quote sums up Transmitter Brewing up perfectly. Transmitter is a nano brewery that prides themselves on using super high-quality ingredients and innovative brewing methods to create complex tasting beers. I came here a week ago and pretty much ended up doing Rockaway Brewing a 2nd time and popping my Big Alice and Transmitter Brewing cherries...I'm not going to come here and say that 1 brewery is better than another because I'm a craft beer lover and craft beer lovers don't tear down the little guys. Although Transmitter is small, their beer crafting skills are FIERCE. The three beers they had to sample on this particular weekend were their S8 Rice Saison, their S1 Farmhouse Ale, their S5 Oak Aged Belge Saison. All of them were delicious and unique, however I remember their S8 Rice Saison being my favorite. It had a really awesome crisp taste with a clean finish. Easily drinkable and a really well made saison. The woman who was running the show that day (MAN, I wish I remembered her name!) was super sweet and very knowledgable about their history, ingredients and processes used and her enthusiasm was contagious. She had a really great energy, I just wanted to plop myself their and drink for hours with her, haha! Sure, I do wish that their tasting room were bigger and that they had a draft beer system rather than only bottles - but I think that their size adds to their charm. I can't wait to return and see what new beers they have in store. Transmitter (and all independently owned Queens breweries) are destined for great things. 5 stars. read more

Came here with a group of friends and shared quite the selection of hand crafted brews. It was a great experience. The server/host had a Chicago shirt on which made me feel at home immediately. Round after round of big bottles came pouring in. From light floral notes to hints of heady wood, every sip was a delight from the various bottles of liquid gold. Check out my pics and come for a visit! read more

I've been to Transmitter Brewing twice now. Once early on a Saturday, and the second time on a late Saturday afternoon. Both times, service was fast and friendly, and there was ample seating. You won't find huge crowds at Transmitter in part due to it's tucked away location. Nevertheless, I find this refreshing. It's nice to find a cool spot with no lines, especially with so many other crowded craft breweries in LIC. You buy beer in a can or bottle here, and I was pleasantly surprised buy their porter saison. I've never had anything like it. The owner says their Brooklyn Navy Yard location should be open in the next few months, and my partner and I couldn't be happier since we live across the street from Bldg 77. But in the meantime, we'll just have to come back to Queens. read more

I love places that make beer. I love places that do what they like. This place is a combination of both. They make beers that they like. A friend of mine recommended this place because his coworker also works there. The focus at TB is on farmhouse ales and Belgian beers. They do them well, and because the operation is small you can sit and chat with basically all the people on staff. It's a little off the beaten path but it's right over the Pulaski bridge and right off the 7 train. Definitely worth the visit. read more

The beer here is fascinating. I tried a number of odd farmhouse/sour/ipa/trippel beers and they were all funky yet decidedly drinkable which sounds like damning with faint praise but I really was impressed and I feel like my usual beer vocab isn't quite suited to what they've got going on. Particularly with this wild zinfandel beer which had a really unique body that you'd think a beer/wine drink would have. It's a bit out of the way but worth a stop if you're in LIC, particularly if you're driving. You could probably walk here from Greenpoint too. read more

I straight up love this place. The first time I came by a few years ago, they were to-go only, but now you can actually post up and drink your beer. Intimate brewery space, the clientele are polite and well-behaved, and Rob, Tanya, and Anthony are super affable and generous. My only worry is that this place will continue to blow up (see Other Half Brewing) and you won't be able to even stand in there anymore. The beers are fantastic, rustic European ales. I like the balance between trusted beers like golden ales and more exotic things like saisons made with grape must. They take interesting risks but also stick to tried an true classics. read more

The beer here is soooooooo good. Tried the buckwheat, saison and sour. 100% amazing. Buckwheat was my favorite by far. They sell chips but you can bring your own food. Got some pizza from down the street. Super friendly. read more

Great small brewery over in Long Island City. Its in the industrial part of town but that makes it that much cooler. Its not setup like a typical taproom because they dont really have one. You come in the small merch room on the left side of the building. They have some bottles that are available to try that day, pay a small fee and get a taste of each one. You then have the option to buy a bottle or bottles and sit in their small picnic table or right out front and drink what you have purchased. There really isnt anything to say that hasnt been said before, the beers are top notch. Everything is good, these guy have got their shit together and have though everything out. Its pretty awesome to take a bottle back with me to KY, NC and FL to share with some people who might not have heard of them. Give it a few years an im sure they will be a well know name in the craft beer community! read more

Love the beer here. Both the Rye Saisson and B3 Stout are excellent. The ambience here is very bare bones in the most delightful way. It's a place of work, but with notes whimsy (it's all about the Christmas lights and cute dogs). If you are into IPA's, it's not your brewery. But if you like the French traditions of sours and champagne-like beers, it delivers hugely. read more

Many breweries with a schtick typically don't have a lot to offer, but this isn't the case with transmitter. They do the farmhouse style very well and I've enjoyed everything I've had of theirs. If you're looking for IPAs, this isn't the place for you. But you should still try! The tasting room setup is a little odd but I'll assume that's due to location-related restrictions. They offer 3 different beers to sample (for free) at a very small bar, and then you can purchase bottles or cans. No draft. But I appreciate the sampling because it allows you to get to know their flavors. Today we got a can to drink on-premise. The staff is nice and are eager to answer any questions and to talk beer. read more

This is one of the gems of the rather active Long Island City beer scene. They offer several beers for tasting and then you can purchase bottles to consume on premises (couple tables and benches) or take home - and the beers change monthly if not more frequently. They have some great saisons, sours, and farmhouse ales, but you're going to be pleased with whatever you get. I would also suggest the CSB program - monthly beer share with 2 bottles/month, access to exclusive batches (CSB-only), and other great perks. Really friendly staff, quality place. read more

Not your typical brewery! Located in a super industrial part of Long Island City, Transmitter brewery is as first hand as it gets in seeing how beer becomes its form. With a private free tour (sign up via Yelp page) and an in depth explanation of Transmitter's brewery beer process, plus complimentary beer tasting, we had an insightful and beer-filled time. The beers were refreshing with different notes of hops, and bottled sophisticatedly like champagne. Whether you come here to buy some beer for a party or to see everything in action, I highly recommend visiting Transmitter brewery! There is no in-brewery service. Everything is sold to be enjoyed elsewhere. We ordered a 750 ML bottle of G1 Golden Ale for $15. Perfect serving for 2 with some hearty dinner. read more

Top 10 sketchiest walks I've ever been on. Not that I felt like I was in danger or anything. But I just felt like I was perpetually getting lost in a tandem walk across railroad tracks, bridges, and what felt like a fu#&ton number of streets. Eventually after arriving, I (like everyone else) was severely shocked by how small it was. I walked all the way out here for this? Then I started talking to the brewer. Then I had samples of their brews. Then I finally understood it all. Super unique experience so I highly recommend it if you're in the area. I thoroughly enjoyed their saisons. Their farmhouse beer was also strangely delicious. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think you can also bring your own food/snacks in, buy their beers and sit on their benches inside. Limited seating but my favorite part was talking with the brewer, him explaining what went into their stuff and how they came up with it. Now I religiously buy their beers whenever I see them. Great stuff, I've definitely become a fan. And remember, if it feels like you're getting lost walking to this place, you're probably going the right way! read more

It may come as a surprise to some that Queens is home to quite a few microbreweries, but indeed there are, and they're not just good but great. My friends and I went on a self-directed brewery tour in LIC, starting with Big aLICe and Rockaway before ending at Transmitter. As soon as we had our first taste of their brews, we knew we had saved the best for last. As soon as you walk in, someone offers you a tasting of each of the samplers for that day. We were treated to the W1, G6, and F4 (the first letter denotes the style of beer, e.g. W = wheat beer). Both the W1 grapefruit wit and G6 gin barrel golden ale were hands down two of the best beers I have ever had, and we quickly picked up two bottles to split. There are three picnic tables in the brewery for seating, as well as a back area with more tables that was quiet and the perfect way to spend a weekend afternoon. Though Transmitter is a bit out of the way for some, the spectacular beers and relaxing environment make it easily my favorite brewery in New York City. read more

This place not only has great beer, but the employees are exceptionally nice and accommodating to dogs. They also have an adorable back patio (albeit small and intimate), and they also have cornhole set up outside under the bridge. Great for someone who knows their beer and appreciates the craft. Also, hats off to the beyond friendly staff of beer experts. Highly recommend. read more

Good brewery at an odd location. Near absolutely nothing nearby, under the Pulaski skyway. They have specialty beers in 750ml bottles, they don't do cans or normal size bottled beers. Not my particular taste in beers but good spot nonetheless. Tasting area is very very small but they typically open up the area inside the brewery as a sit down area. read more

Transmitter Brewing - Breweries Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

The only thing that isn't great about Transmitter Brewing is the location. Hard to find, literally beneath the Pulaski Bridge, several blocks from anything resembling society. Everything else is fantastic. I came here with a friend on an exceptionally rainy Sunday afternoon, the seventh of seven (so far?) breweries in the Astoria/LIC area. Transmitter specializes in Saison/Sour beers, and does a great job with them. We tasted a few of their choices upon arrival, and were immediately impressed. We ultimately split a bottle of their Plum Sour (code H4) and WOW. Easily the best Sour I've ever had. It has a tartness to it that I can only compare to eating a fresh sour Starfruit right off the tree. Delicious! It's aged twice, and then bottle conditioned. This beer has seen some stuff, and is all the better for it. We then also tried a can of the G1 Golden Ale, which was a little less impressive. Tasted fairly standard-ale to us, though that's hardly a bad thing. The Plum sour is the most expensive bottle on their menu (they don't currently have taps, nor do I think are they getting them), but was well worth it. I probably won't be back unless I take someone else on the epic Astoria/LIC brewery crawl (that includes Singlecut, Transmitter, IcoNYC, Big aLICe, Rockaway, LIC Beer Project, and Fifth Hammer), due mainly to the location, but be sure that I will be ordering Transmitter any time I see it on a menu from now on. read more

Great small-scale brewery in LIC. The brewery lacks a taproom but there are tables and chairs set up within the actual brewery. The beers are inventive and flavorful, but you can't get anything on tap. The brewery is located next the Pulaski Bridge in a nondescript spot. If you are doing a brewery tour of Queens, make sure you stop here. read more

Great little brewery that can be tough to find. There is a big food distribution warehouse close to it that might be easier to find on Google Maps. It's under the Pulaski bridge and parking is a bit of a pain, but if you like sours and farmhouse style beers, this is a place you NEED to visit. We tried a pilsner, a brett ale and an imperial wit and even my wife, who doesn't usually go for these styles enjoyed or at least appreciated their quality. Small place with limited seating but very knowledgeable folks (including one of the brewers) who are happy to talk about their beers and their thought process in making them. read more

Cool spot in the heart of the Brooklyn navy yard. Offer a good selection of quality craft beers at affordable prices. The menu offers a large variety that will meet the needs of any beer drinker. Transmitter Brewing was a brewery unlike any others I've visited before, unfortunately not in a good way though they aren't without their plus sides. Transmitter is located literally under the Pulaski Bridge (connecting Greenpoint, Brooklyn with Long Island City, Queens). It's a very industrial neighborhood that has a weird smell to it (at least on the day we were there). As another reviewer pointed out, the "tasting room" is about the size of a walk in closet, not something that would accomodate more than 4 people comfortably. Samples are super small and served in disposable cups but are free. The girl working there was very friendly and did a good job describing the beers and the brewing process. When we were there we had the option of trying 4 beers: SY1 Saison- 7.2% abv T3 Triple- 7.5%abv F2 Brett Farmhouse- 6.8%abv BdG3 Bierre de Garde- 6.5%abv- brewed with blood oranges and allspice I'm not sure what's with the naming of the beers, it's just how they roll. None of the beers are on tap or available in normal sized bottles, your only option are larger bottles for $15-16. There are a couple of picnic tables crammed into their brewing space otherwise there isn't much standing or sitting room. We thought the beers were interesting but weren't blown away and with the set up as they have now, it's not a place we would likely be coming back to anytime soon. read more

This micro brewery gives you a little insight to the beer brewing process. This location is funky in all sorts of ways. Funky fun farmstyle beers, funky seating (enclosed patio or random seating by the beer being made), and funky location under the bridge. As soon as we walked in we were greeted with three beer samples which was fantastic because it allowed you to get a taste of their variety of beers. I had their Hibiscus Belgian style brewed beer which was amazing. My friends opted for a salty apricot beer and the passionfruit sour. The only reason this location doesn't get 5 stars is that having draft beers is typically the highlight of directly going to a brewery. Rumor has it they are soon moving locations....so hopefully draft beers in the future? read more

Fantastic saisons and sours. When we walked in the front door, they gave us free samples - how amazing is that? We sampled three beers, all of which were great, so we bought two of them and headed inside to drink them. Staff was friendly and happy to chat about their beers. The facility is weird, it was just a few tables tucked inside their brew area. But apparently they'll be relocating to a nicer spot in the near future. If you enjoy sours, go check this place out. read more

For the most part, I absolutely love Transmitter Brewing's beers. They make a lot of citrusy, funky, sour things in large format bottles that I get really excited about seeing in bottle shops and at beer events. The brewery itself is a fun stop on the Long Island City beer crawl. If you're driving into the area, parking nearby can be difficult to find, so sometimes it's nice to start somewhere else, leave your car, and walk from Big Alice or Rockaway. When you visit, you get a free tasting of three of their offerings for the day. This is nice because one, you don't have to pay, and two, you don't have to sip through an entire flight to get a feel for what they have. It's less nice because you don't get a chance to try everything that's available for purchase, like you can at some of the other breweries in the area. My only complaint is that the tasting area is super super tiny, so if you just want to pop in, try what's available, and grab a bottle to go, sometimes you feel like you're in a jumble of elbows and man beards. We've never bought a bottle and enjoyed it in the open-to-the-street brewing area because it's always been jam-packed, but it looks like a nice time on a sunny weekend day. read more

Love this place! Tucked away under the Pulaski Bridge this brewery is like a diamond in the rough. They always have a few beers that they are doing sample tastes of and then bottles that you can purchase to drink in or take home. All of the beers are bottled, nothing is on tap at the brewery. If you are local and a big time fan of their beers they have a CSB program with some pretty good perks. read more

Transmitter is an interesting little brewery. It doesn't have a designated tasting room. What it does have are benches in the breweries area where you can enjoyed great bottled beers amidst the brewing activities.Transmitter specializes in farmhouse/saison/Biere de grade. great place to try some experimental brews. came as part of a tasting tour de force. Experimental in the sense that they use different kinds of yeast to drive their craft beer. they offer samples but otherwise you will have to share bottles (1 pt, 9oz). If you like beer that is tart and/or has fruity notes. then you will like Transmitter. We had 4 bottles: the ph1 sour ale, hibiscus wit (w3), brett farmhouse ale (F2, euro hops), and golden ale (G1 mandarina bavaria hops). So the fun is that they take a traditional beer style like a golden ale and mix it with the mandarina hops to impart subtle citrus and floral notes. the ph1 was my first sour beer so I am not too used to it yet. the hibiscus wit is another interesting style where they twist a Belgian wheat beer style. I am usually a fan of belgian style wit beer but this one was a tad too citrusy and tart for me. I blame the hibiscus notes. never have been a big fan of herbal teas. my favorite of the day was the brett farmhouse ale. I really like the fruit (stone fruit, melon, strawberry) and earthy notes. Seating wise, there are three or four picnic style tables. overall, love the forward thinking beers and the shareable bottles. fun times. read more

This is a lowkey brewery in the industrial part of Queens. I had a transmitter passion fruit sour beer at a restaurant and instantly fell in love. We decided to head over to the brewery the next day with some friends. It is a very small brewery offering their beers straight from the can and nothing on tap. I was a little disappointed with the samples since we were only given about half a shot glass of each, literally equivalent to one sip. In addition, they only had a few select beers and not nearly as many that are listed on their website. It was a cool place to hang out and enjoy some good beers but we did notice some roaches crawling around which is pretty gross... but common in those types of environments I guess? I really wish their beers were distributed at more places locally because I'm in love with the passion fruit sour and I was looking forward to trying the mango sour but it wasn't available. read more

One of the most adventurous breweries with yeast. Part of the fantastic LIC brewery route along with Big Alice and Rocakway, Transmitter is just as small, authentic, and delicious. Nestled in yet another warehouse in a semi shady area under the tracks between LIC AND Greenpoint, there isn't much ambiance but the funky beers here are top notch. I'm not sure I agree with their distinction between a farmhouse and a saison, but I can let bygones be far and by gone for their beer. The golden ale was a nice basic ale that will please just about anyone. The saison and especially the Brett saison ramp up the funk like Bruno Mars and don't disappoint. They serve only via bottle here, and you have to beg for the singular picnic bench, so come with friends or a big appetite. read more

Finding the place is really going back to how industrial New York City used to feel as you drive by multiple grocery delivery warehouses. Walking in, the tasting area is a little room that can a handful of people, at best. Walking in, we were offered 3 beers to taste. Each one was quite good. Transmitter is really doing great things with Brett, a bacteria that offers complex and funky qualities to beer. From hoppy to sweet and toasty to rum barrel aged, they had a really great selection. I wouldn't say it's a destination, unless you're a craft beer geek looking for some Transmitter, in itself. The space is pretty small other than the brewing equipment that takes up most of the space. However, I would recommend doing the LIC brewery tour on a weekend afternoon, including this, Rockaway Brewing, and Big Alice. read more

New very small brewery right below the Pulaski Bridge, Google Maps gets directions wrong from the Vernon Jackson 7 Stop. It claims you can walk straight there in a line. However that line leads you to the tunnel highway so crossing it is illegal and could lead to your demise. You must go around the highway and across the tracks or take the steps from the bridge. They have top notch equipment in a small garage, incredible use of space. A small tasting room offers free samples of the beer. The beer is all Belgian Farmhouse inspired. 750ml bottles only and $15 apiece. The beer is phenomenal. Top notch ingredients and good flavors. My personal favorites are the Bier de Garde and Rye Saison. Can't recommend this place enough. Come out here. And if you really like the beer, check out their CSB plan. What a creative idea. This place is small and is located in LIC not far from the LIRR station and directly under the Pulaski Bridge from Greenpoint. Their beers were pretty decent, mostly saison, farmhouse, and sour styles, but the location is probably only worth a visit if you're really into beer or if you're doing a mini brewery tour of Brooklyn and Queens, like we were. Their tasting space is basically just the vestibule of the brewery and they don't have taps or a comfortable place to sit and hang out like some of the other local microbreweries. It's a bit akin to a small wine tasting. I may be back before Christmas or a birthday to pick up gifts because their beers are beautifully packaged, a unique local gift, and are a bit pricey for me for everyday consumption (though in-line with mid-range wine prices, if you need a comparison). read more
