If you've had multiple miscarriages like me, you might want to consider choosing Shady Grove (DC/K Street) to see their highly specialized reproductive endocrinologists. Let me start by saying KUDOS to my patient care coordinator "Jo-jo" (Jolissa) Vialva. I cannot praise her enough. She has been my champion and advocate throughout my maternal health journey. (More so than my OBs at Capital Women's Care who don't really seem to care half as much as Jo-jo.) Over the course of 5 months since I first made the appointment to see Dr Kimberly Moon (who was referred by three people I trust, including my gynecologist) Jo-jo has diligently and persistently followed up with me and even just messaged me from time to time to check up on me. I'm blown away because NONE of my doctors ever do that. She truly makes you feel like she cares! I especially appreciate her effort to fit a virtual appointment with Dr. Moon to accommodate my husband and my busy schedules. Initially there was a lot of confusion and miscommunication with my insurance during my transfer from the Shady Grove Fairfax location (which is HORRIBLE). I was very upset, but everything got resolved thanks to Lauren the Director of the Shady Grove DC location who personally called me to rectify the situation. I was extremely impressed by her leadership and the patient-centered resolution. She even gave me her direct phone line to call her if I needed her assistance (though thanks to Kayla the finance coordinator, everything was taken care of as promised.) Her gesture definitely helped build my trust and confidence in the care I would receive at Shady Grove. In terms of actual care/procedure, Dr. Kimberly Moon was very generous with her time -- she was clearly knowledgeable and thorough in reviewing my previous records, and patiently answered my husband and my questions without making us feel rushed. Getting a saline sonogram at the location was seamless: from the check-in process (no wait time) to the friendly front desk staff and the sonographer, everything was efficient and easy. The facility was immaculate. While I can't comment on their IVF treatments, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND going to SHADY GROVE DC location to receive quality care and follow up!

After providing the sample at the K Street location, I was called two days later and informed that the appointment was set up incorrectly and I had to reschedule. No apology or explanation was provided and payment was collected. The next appointment was a hour away from my house but I took it. At the second appointment, I was greeted (Rockville location) by a rude front desk staffer who redirected me to a different floor. At the next front desk, the staff was again disorganized and rude. Today, I was told that results will not be added to my patient portal for up to 30 days, despite being told - repeatedly - that the test takes 7-10 days for results to be returned. To date, no one has apologized for the repeated failures of the staff. No one seems concerned that the staff is incapable of communicating effectively or scheduling appointments. Despite promises, a manager has yet to call me to discuss the situation.

**BEWARE OF BILLING FRAUD**…read more Not surprised to see how low this place is rated (and I wish I consulted yelp!!!). As you can tell if you look at my profile, I rate most experiences and businesses highly, and I find myself to be a very level-headed and fair person. I was considering CFA for fertility testing for both my husband and I. We had a 1-time consult with one of their doctors, which took ~15 minutes over zoom. Received a bill for CPT code 99205, which was over $400, and represents a 60-75 minute face to face visit (you can research the code yourself). I reached out to the company to say my appointment was extremely brief, and I don't believe this CPT code is accurate/represents the length of time with the doctor. I received extremely rude responses, justifying the use of the code (inaccurately, saying it includes documentation time - which it doesn't, and even if it does, show me what a 45-minute long note looks like...yeah right). Extremely disappointing and horrible to charge me for a service I didn't receive. I even mentioned that I'd be happy to pay for an accurate CPT code, even a 30-minute one, and they are not budging. Unfortunately, they have evidence of the length of the appointment since it was on the provider's zoom account, though I wish so badly I could pull that evidence (and we can all assume they won't show it). Dr. Owen was truly amazing in every way. She took the time to genuinely listen and understand what we needed. She has such a caring heart and always made me feel like I was her most important patient. She carefully analyzed every result and personally called with detailed explanations, which meant so much during such an emotional process. I always felt like I was in the very best hands. Under her care, we had two successful egg retrievals, and on our first transfer, we got pregnant. We are beyond grateful -- there really aren't enough words to express how thankful we are. That said, the billing department needs significant improvement. Communication was very difficult -- phone calls often went unanswered with no callbacks, and responses were typically limited to once per day. Payments were missed on their end, so I strongly recommend tracking everything carefully. Bills were also not sent promptly. Overall, while the administrative side was frustrating, Dr. Owen made all the difference in our journey, and for that we will always be thankful.

It's the day after Thanksgiving, and I'm in a waiting room with 25 other women. Waiting. For hours. We each had an appointment time, which was meaningless. We lost this pseudo-holiday to drive here and wait. I'll also note, unlike any other fertility clinic I've been to, CCRM NoVa allows children in the waiting room, which to some is another marker of insensitivity. Expect competent doctors, but also expect this practice to make your already stressful experience more stressful and frustrating.

She was condescending, dismissive, and made me feel incredibly uncomfortable throughout our discussion. To make matters worse, I was charged $1,300 for a 30-minute consultation that I was required to complete simply to access my Kindbody fertility benefits. My Kindbody Patient Care Navigator specifically instructed me that the first step was to schedule a 1:1 virtual consultation with a fertility specialist pasted verbatim: "The following items are the first steps in using your benefit: SCHEDULE a visit with a fertility specialist: Schedule a 1:1 30-minute virtual consultation with our fertility expert to address your personal needs! " After some time, I was notified of an outstanding bill - reviewed the invoice on KindBody, which stated: "Employer Initial Consult and Work-Up - Initial consult to include up to 3 visits, 3 ultrasounds, and lab work (SIS)." However, my insurance claim showed Dr. Sasan billed me as a non-participating provider even though this was a mandatory consultation required to use my Kindbody benefits. The claim included the note: "Y838 - NON-PARTICIPATING PROVIDERS MAY BILL THE MEMBER FOR CHARGES (Y838)." How can a physician representing Kindbody bill patients directly as a non-participating provider for a required appointment and worse charge $1300 for 30-minutes? This raises serious ethical and financial concerns. For perspective, my new physician, also a Kindbody partner but is NOT affiliated with Dr. Sasan's group, charged $250 for a 45-minute consultation (which extended to an hour and a half) where he billed my insurance, not me. He was compassionate and data-driven, reviewed my health history, discussed egg and embryo freezing, analyzed fertility statistics, addressed blood type and male fertility, plus many more topics, and welcomed all questions. By contrast with Dr. Sasan, none of those topics above were even discussed. I had explained that I'd been proactive with NAC, Myo & D-Chiro Inositol, prenatal vitamins, and a Mediterranean diet, she interrupted me to say prenatal vitamins "don't matter" until pregnancy and that "nothing I was doing mattered because my eggs were already accounted for." I knew immediately this was false. What's even more concerning is that Kindbody's own website states: "General recommendations to optimize preconception health include: Eating a healthy diet, getting regular exercise, and maintaining a healthy weight. NOTE: Please discuss exercise with the Kindbody healthcare team to determine if any modifications are needed during fertility treatment or pregnancy. All people who may potentially become pregnant should take a daily prenatal vitamin before and during pregnancy. Extra folic acid (in addition to a prenatal vitamin) may be recommended for some patients - please discuss this with your Kindbody provider." Dr. Sasan made matters worse by pressuring me to freeze my eggs immediately, saying I was "running out of time" and "could not wait until next year," despite never reviewing a single lab result, hormone panel, or any medical history as it was never requested nor did I provide any medical history or data. So Dr. Sasan made assumptions . That kind of generalized, fear-based advice is deeply unprofessional and not patient-centered. When I mentioned her office was nearly two hours away and that I preferred a provider closer to my location, she rushed to end the call, saying someone would contact me. No empathy, no curiosity, no genuine concern just a dismissal. Feeling uneasy, I later met with my new MD from Kindbody's provider list who confirmed her statements were misinformed. He explained that prenatal vitamins, nutrition, and exercise are vital for fertility and egg quality, especially for women in their mid-to-late 30s and 40s, and that no doctor can predict success or failure without data. His approach was transparent and compassionate and the complete opposite of my experience with Dr. Sasan. Out of curiosity, I later scheduled another Kindbody fertility preservation consultation and the confirmation stated: "No charges will occur until the time of your appointment. We accept most insurances and HSA/FSA for eligible services. If you do not have insurance, the cost for your first visit will be $300, due at the time of your appointment." Making Dr. Sasan's $1,300 direct charge even more questionable. Dr. Sasan made me feel devalued, unheard, and taken advantage of. I would never recommend Dr. Sasan or her affiliated practice to anyone seeking compassionate, evidence-based fertility care. After everything I had been through, that level of compassion and attention meant more than I can express. Stephanie, who handled my blood draws, was absolutely amazing-specially since I hate bloodwork. Somehow, she made the process painless every single time, which I didn't think was possible. Her calm, gentle approach instantly put me at ease. She also performed my ultrasounds and always took the time to explain exactly what we were seeing on the screen. That extra effort made such a difference, helping me feel informed, reassured, and involved throughout the process. I am incredibly thankful for my navigator, Holli. She was always so responsive, kind, and patient with the million questions I would text her . No matter how many times I reached out, she never made me feel like a burden. Having someone to count on during such an emotional journey was imperative for my peace of mind. Taylor, the nurse assigned to me, was also wonderful. She was great during ultrasounds, always gentle and professional, she consistently took the time to answer questions I had. She did the ultrasound when I heard the baby's heartbeat and she was so thorough with everything we were seeing on the screen. Her warmth and knowledge made me feel really comfortable. Choosing Pinnacle Fertility was the best decision I've ever made. My experience at Shady Grove was completely different- I felt like just another patient. Dr Shu wasted nearly two years of my time, money, and emotional energy, and the entire process felt like an exhausting cycles with no results or clear direction. It was incredibly discouraging and nearly gave up. From the moment I met with Dr DiMattina, I knew things would finally move in the direction of my dreams. He listened, explained, and he took decisive action after bloodwork was conducted. He truly did everything possible to help make this happen- and he delivered!!! His knowledge of fertility is astounding, and I would recommend him to anyone who needs help getting pregnant. You can truly trust that he will do everything in his power to help make your dream come true!!!

They are arguing that this fee is necessary to improve services and technology, etc., which, from my perspective, should not be at the expense of patients, but a responsibility of the business owners and stakeholders who want to be in the health care system and should have a sound investment and business strategy plan instead of having clients paying for the business they want to have. Unless, they are on purpose creating a membership-like model to access OBGYN health care, to appeal to a very specific clientele, in which case, they should be transparent about it, instead of imposing such a fee under the disguise of betterment of their services, and inadvertently, rendering the services possibly discriminatory and less accessible to some extent. Either management did not put a lot of thought on this, or they did, and simply did not care. In addition, there seem to be a lot of turnover, and their licensed providers (who for the most part and in fairness, are pretty easy going), have significantly decreased from when I started going years ago. Only at the beginning I had a consistent provider but that has changed in the past 2 to 3, when I can be seen by whoever is available. Depending on who you talk to whether in billing, front desk, checkout, you may also be faced with somewhat condescending approach, but I am not sure if that is due to unprofessionalism of some of the staff, or if it is a symptom of how they are treated by business management, and they are just simply burned out, with clients and patients ending up as unintended collateral damage. Given the decline of services, providers and quality of customer service over the years, I had been considering switching practice already, but this imposition just did it for me. I rather pay more in insurance, deductible and co-pay for better services altogether, than make my health care dependable on whether I am willing to pay for what seems to be an annual membership fee, which at the end, will not guarantee better care, because it is a matter of integrity and not profitability. In my opinion, it is problematic that for a health care and medical practice the quality of services is contingent upon increasing or imposing additional costs to the patients, instead of making it a stakeholders investment and accountability.

I've waited a year to post my review. While I believe that many patients are helped by Dr. Moawad,…read moremy experience has not been stellar. What I do appreciate is that Dr. Moawad was able to give me a diagnosis and put some pieces together for me that multiple providers had not done after 3 years of chronic pelvic pain and horrible periods that still negatively impact my quality of life. My first visit was great, I felt cared for and seen. I do believe that Dr. Moawad cares and has developed his skills and knowledge to help as many women as possible. My endo was advanced when it was caught, which may be why I'm still having significant impacts from it a year after surgery. I knew that one surgery would not fix all of the things, but I did expect that my quality of life would improve. That has not been the case thus far. The surgery coordinator said to me, when she was trying to get me to commit to the payment, that my life would change. So far the only real change is that I have increased my debt in order to pay for the surgery. Three things that I wish had been different in my experience: 1. More thorough education about endo and adenomyosis, which I also have. I was given the option to have laparoscopic surgery to include a hysterectomy or not. I chose to keep my uterus, as I was not emotionally ready to have that procedure. If there had been clearer information about the adenomyosis part, I may have made a different decision. My periods have gotten worse after surgery, and I am incapacitated for 2-3 days each month. I also still have the chronic pelvic pain (from pudendal neuralgia) which has only moderately improved after surgery. 2. Customer service. When the initial consult fee is close to $1000 and the surgery is out of network (costing thousands of dollars) I expect a very high level of customer service. This was not my experience. I felt like a paycheck to the admin staff and surgery coordinator. Multiple times I emailed into the office with questions and after 3 days or so, would ping them again. In my experience of over 20 years in the professional world, the general expectation is a 24 hour time window for answers and communication. I realize that the answer to a question may take longer depending on the doctor's schedule or billing service, but I do expect a response to acknowledge my request and give an ETA on an answer. I would suggest that the office staff need some training on customer service at a high level. 3. After care. I experienced new and different pain after my surgery and reached out to Dr. Moawad's office for support. I was referred to a pain specialist whom I met with twice and he did not have helpful recommendations. On my own, I found a practice that does pelvic rehabilitation medicine and have engaged with them. They informed me that they have a relationship with Dr. Moawad and I wish that he had referred me to them when I had continued pelvic pain after surgery and to this day.
