Pulse offers a valuable service to the denizens of downtown Silver Spring. This community acupuncture spot is clean, comfortable, and professional. I have had great experiences with one of their acupuncturists and co-owners, Jackie. She is friendly, supportive, understanding, and very good at what she does. I have not always been the best acupuncture patient, but she inserts needles with ease! There have been times I've been able to book a community or private session just a day or two in advance. They offer a sliding scale for services starting at $25, a great value for quality medical service in 2019. They also make Chinese medicine blends in-house and those have been helpful too. If you are on the lookout for good community acupuncture, or a former OurSpace client, I recommend Pulse!

Prior to acupuncture I tried physical therapy to no avail, then found Jackie and the rest was history!

I felt significant improvements after just one visit and continued improvements throughout the few months that I received treatment. Simeon is very personable, kind, and professional. He makes you feel very comfortable and welcomed, and answered all of my questions regarding the process, procedure and outcomes. He worked with my insurance to ensure I received the most out of my benefits and I would recommend him 100%. I look forward to returning!!

We optimize wellness by taking care of the "whole" person based on fundamental principles of holistic medicine and integration of mind and body. We specialize in acupuncture, Oriental herbs, massage, Gua Sha and now facial rejuvenation. Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese treatment that is being embraced in Western culture. The procedure uses hair-thin needles placed at specific areas of the body and is painless and natural. Acupuncture is highly effective for many health issues. It can increase energy, improve sleep patterns, reduce symptoms of menopause, stress or illnesses and enhance mental clarity and addictive tendencies. Facial rejuvenation is a form of acupuncture that has been used since the Chinese Sung Dynasty (960-1279 A.D.) Needles are inserted at strategic points in the face and neck to induce the movement of blood and stimulate collagen production. The procedure can reduce fine lines and improve the overall skin tone in your face. Gua Sha is a healing technique used throughout Asia. "Gua" means to rub or cause friction. "Sha" describes congestion of blood at the surface of the body. Gua Sha increases normal circulation to the muscles, tissues and organs directly beneath the surface of the area being treated. Patients can relieve stiffness, pain and mobility and find Gua Sha helpful in resolving colds and stubborn coughs.

So I've been to see Gillian Powers, licensed acupuncturist practicing at Crossings Healing Center…read morein Silver Spring, on and off for years now, so I figure it's time for me to give her a little love. She's been such a calming influence when I have needed it most. She has helped me with stress at home and at work, with physical ailments, including conserving energy and improving my breathing (which in turn is calming). One of the things I like best about her is that she seems completely there for you - she soaks up information about you, listens carefully, and then sets about addressing the things you tell her are bothering you. She gives you space to unload, unwind, and by the end of the session, I always feel calm and rested. I think Gillian is especially good for someone who's never done alternative therapies before. You don't feel like you're entering some alternate reality; she doesn't bowl you over with needles and chakras. She's a very regular person, just attentive and subtle, and you often don't realize she's needling you . . . and by the way, these needles are like sewing needles, teeny tiny. I highly recommend my acupuncturist to anyone who's looking, whether for specific injuries, or just general maintenance.

Once those began to dissolve, I was able to look into chronic issues with digestion and sleep that I thought would never change (they did!). I continue to see her now to maintain well-being. Gillian is kind, gentle, and attentive. She takes the approach of partnering with you in taking care of your health (not preaching, forcing, or judging). Gillian tailors each and every session based on how you feel in that particular moment, and her acupuncture skills are phenomenal! I have had such major breakthroughs under her care, too many to recount. I really cannot imagine my life over the last few years without her tender treatment. I count her as one of the primary people in my support network, and I highly recommend that you do the same!

I went 2x/week for 4 months for acupuncture and herbal tea supplement (which I drank twice a day…read morereligiously), all as recommended due to my build up of stress and wanting to get off of anti-depressants. We identified I had a yin deficiency, which I have heard from other practitioners before. I was told I have inflammation from the "heat" from the yin deficiency. All made sense to me. There was no type of improvement that I could see. I was uncomfortable during the acupuncture and was barely relaxed. I've seen other practitioners and did not have this kind of experience. I really wanted to like this practice so it was disappointing. I wanted to commit to doing it for a year, but I just couldn't hold out because I was actively suffering through the acupuncture. (And I'm a fan of it!) What really got me was that Dr. Hou would see me every week and say the exact same things for 4 months. "Tongue getting better." Or "Toenails are still dark red (low oxygen) but getting better." This on repeat for 4 months. There was no visible or internal improvement on my end. I committed completely and took her suggestions. I tried to tell her my concerns, but she had no answers for me. Just that it will take a long time and that my "cells need to grow." If I had a dime for every time I was told my "cells need to grow," here I would be rich. I understand TCM and have no issue with waiting, but the constant "you're getting better" was suspicious. I had a bad feeling about it. I was basically told to wait a year to see improvement, but the repetition felt very "snake oil salesman" to me. Not to mention, the place seems like it hasn't been deep cleaned in a very long time. The tables are uncomfortable. The prices are decent, so if you want to give it a try and see if your issues resolve unlike mine, give it a shot! I saw a lot of great reviews so I really wanted to give it a solid try. But I need to get a second opinion after this experience. I was sketched out and had to trust my gut.
