Today's flight is about 20 minutes delayed, but it will hopefully still arrive near our scheduled arrival time. Southwest employees are generally friendly and helpful. The ability to use iMessage and WhatsApp for free once I connected to the in-flight WiFi was a bonus. My primary reason for giving Southwest Airlines only 2 stars is because of this airline's pricing tactics and in my experience, non-existent customer service. I went on Southwest's website and found flights I wanted, only to get an error when I attempted to book and pay. When I immediately tried to re-book just seconds later, the price per ticket for the same itinerary had increased significantly. Southwest customer service was no help when I contacted them, and replied to my messages with seemingly pre-written and "canned" responses that didn't actually address my reason for reaching out.

I flew in and out of this airport for a wedding this past weekend. I came in around 2:30pm on…read moreSaturday and left at 6pm Tuesday. I flew Southwest so I was in terminal 2 the whole time. It was a small terminal and was very easy to navigate. Security was a breeze, both for pre-check and the general line. There are a few food options that had a decent number of customers. The bathrooms were gross when I flew in. They stink of stale pee and felt like they hadn't been cleaned in weeks. The same bathroom was completely different when I flew out just a few days later. It was actively being cleaned and had no smell at all. It might be hit or miss, but my partner reported the exact same experience with the men's bathroom - it was gross coming in and clean going out. The boarding process was pretty smooth. The gate agents all seemed friendly. I didn't have any issues at this airport and will probably be flying into it again in the future.

I've flown out of St. Louis Lambert International Airport many, many times over the years. I…read moretypically fly out of Terminal 2 since that's where Southwest is based, so that's the terminal I'm most familiar with. This airport can be VERY hit or miss when it comes to security. Sometimes you can get through in the blink of an eye, and other times you're waiting close to 45 minutes and starting to worry that you're going to miss your flight. I think a lot of it depends on what's happening in St. Louis--whether there's a big conference, spring break, a holiday, etc.--and I'm not sure the staffing always adjusts accordingly. Because of that, I always recommend checking the security wait times before you leave so you have an idea of how much extra time you need. Once you actually get through security, the airport is pretty easy to navigate. It's not a massive terminal, and you're generally at your gate fairly quickly. There can still be quite a bit of walking, though. One of my biggest annoyances is arriving late at night when there are barely any other planes coming or going, but your plane happens to be at something like Gate E40. Then you have to walk ALL the way down to E13 to exit when all the gates in between are completely empty. Why?! Finding the elevators, escalators, and baggage claim is pretty straightforward, and there are several food and drink options available. I personally don't usually eat or drink at the airport because I'm typically flying for vacation and like to eat at home before I leave. Drop-off is generally easy, but pickup is a little more of a hot mess. There seems to be one extreme or the other. They used to have security officers down there who would wave you along if you waited for even 10 seconds. Now, I've seen people park, load up their car, go inside to use the restroom, and come back out before leaving. There doesn't seem to be much middle ground. Because of that, if I don't have checked bags, I usually have my mom pick us up from the departures level instead of arrivals. It's just easier and less stressful. Overall, Lambert is a pretty easy airport to navigate. It gets you where you need to go without being overwhelmingly large, and I've only experienced a few major delays there. Usually, when something has gone wrong, it hasn't really been the airport's fault--it's been an issue with the airline, the aircraft, or something else outside of the airport's control. It may not be the fanciest airport around, but after flying out of here so many times, I know my way around and generally find it easy to get in, get through, and get on my way.

I've been flying Southwest Airlines for many, many years, so I've definitely seen my share of…read morechanges with the airline. Recently, they made some pretty significant changes to their policies, including moving from the traditional boarding groups to assigned seating. Personally, I actually prefer the assigned seats. I never really cared whether I was sitting in the front, middle, or back of the plane, but I absolutely hated the stress of having to check in exactly 24 hours in advance just to try to claim a decent boarding position. When you're traveling with a child, the biggest concern is always making sure you can sit together. And honestly, I could check in one second after the 24-hour mark and somehow still end up in a later boarding group. I never really understood how that system worked, so I'm definitely a fan of being able to select an actual seat now. One of the biggest perks of Southwest used to be that checked bags flew free, so losing that benefit is definitely a bummer. We usually travel with carry-ons anyway unless we're going on a longer trip, but now it seems like everyone brings a carry-on because of the baggage changes. That means there are still tons of people trying to find overhead bin space, and eventually they have to check bags anyway. It seems a little silly to me. The check-in process, however, is SO much less stressful now, and I definitely prefer it. As with most airlines, your experience can really depend on who is working. I've had some absolutely fantastic flight attendants on Southwest, and I've also had some that weren't so great. That can really make or break a flight. A friendly, helpful flight attendant can make the whole experience more enjoyable. One thing I have noticed this summer is that my return flights seem to be delayed almost every time. I've taken four different trips with Southwest this summer, and my flight home has been delayed anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour or more. I don't know what is going on with the return flights, but it's frustrating when you're already tired, just want to get home, and your arrival time keeps getting pushed farther and farther back. I do enjoy the free beverage service because it's nice to at least have something to wet your beak during the flight. The snacks, however, are another story. I honestly dislike most of the snacks they offer now, with the exception of the occasional Oreo. If there's no Oreo, I usually just pass because I know I'm going to end up throwing the snack away anyway. One of the biggest reasons Southwest was such a great deal for me this summer was having the Companion Pass. My daughter was able to fly free with me wherever we went, and you really can't beat that kind of deal. That made Southwest an especially economical option for us and definitely helped make up for some of the other changes. Overall, Southwest still has its pros and cons, but it remains one of the airlines I look at first when I'm trying to get a good deal. Once my Companion Pass expires, I'll definitely shop around and compare prices with other airlines, but I'm not interested in the ultra-cheap airlines because I've had some pretty poor experiences with them. With Southwest, you pretty much know what you're going to get. It may not be perfect, but for the price and the overall experience, it's still an airline I'm comfortable flying.

Pretty sure I haven't flown another airline in 5+ years through this location!…read more They do take pretty good care of me and my family. Longtime rapid rewards members Respectfully, Bryan

I'm happy that STL has a direct fight to Europe again! I'm old enough that I remember the last time…read morethis was true, as I flew American to/from LGW late-summer 2003, during the final few months of that route. I also was happy to arrive at FRA, where we have previous experience taking the ICE-Bahn to Berlin. Did you know that you can book a train ticket through the Lufthansa website? The trains are faster than five years ago, so it's a great option for getting to your final destination. My only significant complaint is related to seat comfort. In Europe we will fly business class. But, traveling across the ocean, premium economy saves so much money! We had plenty of room, but for some strange reason, the horizontal portion of the actual seat in this Airbus A330-300 was so hard that eventually I had to sit on a pillow to get relief. Compared to our experience on LOT Airlines (from Chicago) in pre-pandemic times, I'm sorry to say the Lufthansa seat (and the food, too) really was a step downward. What did I think of the rest of the experience? Check-in went slowly, and the flight departed an hour late. Given the heat of the day, and desire to keep passengers from lingering too long in the jetway, this was ok by me. The airline staff was relatively friendly, given all the stress they must be feeling this summer. The previously requested gluten-free meal for Therese H. was was handled perfectly, without confusion. Thanks to all who helped bring Lufthansa to STL. I sincerely hope this direct-flight-to-Europe experiment becomes permanent.

This was, without question, the worst travel experience we have ever had--with unacceptable delays, poor communication, and a complete lack of proper support for passengers, especially those traveling with children. Our ordeal began when we boarded the aircraft and taxied to the runway, only for the plane to abruptly slow down and return. We remained seated on the plane for over 3 hours, during which we received conflicting and increasingly concerning updates: 1. After one hour: "We need to refuel since we were on the ground too long." 2. After another hour: "We are having engine problems." 3. After yet another hour: "We will switch you to a different aircraft." 4. Finally, it was announced the flight would be delayed until the next day, and that we would be taken to a hotel for the night. We had two small children with us, and being confined on the plane for three hours with no food, no clear updates, and no solution was both exhausting and distressing. The situation worsened once we deplaned. I told the service desk representative that I could not continue walking long distances, as we had already been up and down stairs multiple times. They said they would arrange for a cart to transport us through the airport--but we were left waiting for an hour. When the cart finally arrived, I was told no children were allowed, so we were forced to walk across the airport yet again--hungry, tired, and unsupported. To make matters worse, the real reason for the delay was only revealed the next day: "Customs in St. Louis was closed." Why was this not communicated from the start, instead of inventing mechanical issues and excuses? This entire experience reflects an alarming level of disorganization, poor internal communication, and disregard for passenger well-being. My family and I lost a full day, were subject to physical and emotional strain, and received no proper assistance despite our clear need for it. stay 27 hours in franfurt with lufthansa

When you are flying on Alaska, typically they will force passengers to check their bags if the flight is close to full. Given I bought a cheap seat, it was inevitable that I had to gate check it. Expect the same experience if you buy a Basic Economy ticket. After gate checking my bag, my seat was changed twice including once when I was boarding. On the plus side, I got moved from a seat in the back to Premium. Due to upgrade, I was able to get some free wine. While the flight overall was great, my checked bag took a half hour to arrive which was above their Bag Guarantee timeframe. But most notably, I was overcharged for a meal that I ordered. It was extremely difficult to try to fix the problem. You have to call or email Customer Care as the text support reps can't help with this. It did not seem worth it to call as the waiting times were not worth the difference so I sent an email. The response time was horrible as I did not get a response until nearly a month later. They could not fix the extra charge, but did give me a discount code which seems reasonable. Having flown Alaska for a long time, I feel that they are not as customer friendly as before, which was what they built their reputation on. There is a lot to improve on in regard to customer care if they want to become a leading global carrier.
