Dave and Dave jr. fixed my Nissan Xterra 2006, radiator mixed in transmission problem! It's been 3 years now since that happened and it's still running. It's old car though so not much power in acceleration anymore but it works. He didn't replace the whole transmission just cleaned out and repaired transmission that takes skill. Thank you! Name is now E&A Trans Service Inc and they are absolutely terrible, zero stars if possible! 02 Silverado 2500HD 8.1 w/ Allison and 95,000 miles. Got a complete transmission rebuild with a 1-year warranty. It took a little over 4 weeks to get the truck back. On the test drive with manager Christian, the truck slammed into gear while shifting. He called it a "Bump Shift" and I disagreed with him. He said it was the shift kit he put in it, and he would take it out and put in the factory version. I never asked for a shift kit, so I don't know why they even put one in it. I also had leaking filter, reverse gear slippage and missing Bell Housing dust cover plate. After 3 additional attempts to get it right, my truck is still messed up. Even with a warranty they told me to take it somewhere else, and they would pay for it! What kind of business does that? Terrible attitudes, terrible customer service and a complete lack of respect for their customers. They are more than happy to take your money, but you better watch out if you have a problem. They are also not BBB accredited if that's important to you. I've found 3 other people that have had problems here. How this place has a 4.7 star rating cannot be possible. I did notice a review from a year ago that stated: "It's my dad's shop, he works so hard even on the weekends, he day and night" I guess you can make up your own mind if you think all the reviews are legit. The Manager Christian and Owner Emil should be ashamed of themselves and their complete failure to fix my truck. I feel sorry for anyone that dares to take their vehicle to them. I do want to thank Jamie at the front desk though. She was always nice to me and tried her best to help me. Thanks Jamie, good luck! Dave sold this place without being notified. I waited two months for my transmission to be rebuilt instead they installed a used one from a junkyard where the mounts had to be "modified". I didn't notice it until 7 months later when the tranny suddenly gave out. They were unprofessional and would not honor the repair! Had to return 2 weeks later : because my torque tube was out of alignment , they mis alignment when they installed my transmission PRELOADED They just kept blowing me off . So I took my car to Jeff's auto in Edmonds, they fixed the mess trans service did to my car If you dive a corvette manual, I would NOT recommend these guys , sloppy forced work. I go 186 mph in my car . These guys could have killed me . $5000 later a new McCloud twin disc clutch and perfectly installed and aligned by Jeff's auto , They would not accept that they pre loaded my transmission and torque tube , and it was rubbing bad when you punched the gas pedal , not happy with this transmission please. 1st time when they did my syncrows , they did great. In June 2015, the transmission finally died in my '99 Acura. I brought it in to Dave's Transmissions, and they had it repaired in about a week. Cost $3k, so it wasn't a bargain, but it seemed to do the job. 3 and a half months later, I noticed my transmission slowly getting worse week by week. Finally, 4 months after it was replaced, my transmission would disengage completely if I steered either to the left or right. Even going forward would usually cause the car to slip for several seconds before reengaging. Limping the car back to Dave's Transmission, he took it in, since it's under warranty for a year from repair date. He said that he was understaffed by two guys, which is understandable; that happens sometimes in business. Since then, I've dropped in to check on the progress every week and a half. Every time I'm there, they misremember which car was mine, and give no timeframe whatsoever for when I can get my car back. Even worse, both the gate *AND* my car were unlocked whenever I checked on it. The owner said that he has a security camera that's being monitored 24/7, but I don't believe that at all since the previous time I had been over, I had taken stuff out of my trunk without anybody so much as noticing me. After 30 days, I finally get him to lend me a loaner car. The past month of getting to work on time has been a constant hassle of getting rides from people to the bus station. At this point, I've never received a phone call from them on the status, or even a phone call letting me know it's delayed. And finally, after more than a month, they finally get around to fixing my car. Nobody ever answers the phone. Constantly understaffed, with no reliable date to ever see your car fixed. After 2 months of checking in I was either handed a sob story about why it wasnt done, or getting asked why it there in the first place... again, again, and again. The owner is a hack. My Geo Tracker finally decided that it was time to die. Big clunk, car stopped, unmovable. I knew it was the transmission already, as I had been driving on borrowed time. I called around and ended up having it towed to Dave's. I was up front with Dave Jr. and said that I didn't know if my car was worth putting a bunch of money into it, as I had already put a bunch into it the previous year and the car was a 1995 Geo. Once they opened it up Jr. said that there was quite a lot to do and they hadn't even looked all the way yet, and agreed that it wasn't worth the money to fix it. Instead, one of his mechanics likes to purchase and fix cars that come in sometimes, and it just so happened that he was interested! They offered me the same price as the pick n pull place in Lynnwood, without losing any additional costs for the other place towing it away or changing their mind on the price once they arrived. It was super convenient and saved me a bunch of cash. I sincerely appreciated their honesty!! The only hassle is that they are so incredibly popular, and very, very busy, because they are so good and so honest - so it took a while before they could get to my vehicle. These guys are awesome:-) I got a great deal on a vehicle because something was going on either with the transfer case or computer. 2 other shops thought the computer needed replaced and seemed to be guessing. They said they would replace the computer and see if that fixed the issue. I found Dave's on Yelp and had the owner bring the vehicle to them to get their opinion. They diagnosed the issue (for free) as the transfer case needing to be replaced and quoted half of what the other shops did. I opted for a used transfer case and that fixed the problem! I just wish they offered more services so that I could take my car to them for other fixes. Dave Sr., Jr. and Jr's wife all give great customer service and I couldn't have been happier. read more

When my transmission suddenly went into failure I called my local auto shop and they referred me to Dave's Trans Service. I called them up on a Monday morning and was able to take my car in shortly thereafter. The repair work was done and I was able to get my car back within four days. While quicker would have been better for me I understand that this is a small shop and a family business. In fact it being a small shop and a family business is one of the reasons I was happy to work with them. Both father and son were polite and friendly whenever I spoke to them. My only complaint is that every phone conversation we had was initiated by me. Every time I was told that I'd get a call by such and such time I'd wait, and then wait some more, and wait a little longer. Finally, about two hours after they said they'd call I would call them. I get being a small business and not having a large staff, but don't promise something and then fail to follow through each time. In my business we have a saying: "under promise and over deliver". If you tell me you'll call by 2:00 make sure you're calling me by 1:00. If you can't call until 3:00 tell me you'll call by 4:00. Make sense? In closing I would absolutely recommend Dave's Trans Service, but be aware you'll probably have to do most if not all of the dialing. read more

Best Transmission place ever. Having 2 cars services here, very happy with the results, all at low prices. First was our GM Suburban, fixed a failing tranny at about 1/2 of what the dealer wanted. Second our Mercedes GLK350, on the free test drive Matt said it wasn't a transmission issue. So at his suggestion, I checked for problems with air and fuel in the engine, and found that a preice of paper was caught in the air filter starving the engine of air. Drove home and no more shudder, drives smooth just as before, THANK YOU MATT!! Highly recommend Trans Service! read more

A-ok. Brought in for a non-mechanical transmission problem. Talked to an eager older gentleman who assured me they'd get to the bottom of things. Place was messy and they seemed swamped, but genius is fickle, right? They never contacted me over the 3 weeks my car was in their care, I had to physically check in on a weekly basis, and often times I was left waiting for an update and get nothing. A handful of times they guy I spoke to would just....leave the room, making me wonder if I was wasting my time. Long story short, they can fix it. It'll just get done on their schedule, so adjust accordingly. read more

This mechanic Dave is the best I have ever come across. He has been around for years and he and his staff are excellent. They are very honest and stick to their word and time line. He always answers the phone and gives you as much time as you want. His prices are good and he does excellent work. He gives free diagnostics unlike all of his competitors and gives you an honest evaluation. Dave's Trans Service is a unique and kind of interesting place. You have to look for a place to park, won't get a cheery receptionist and will wonder for a moment if you should leave and go to the dealer. But not to worry, these guys know transmissions. Dave Sr. walks around in what almost seems like a lab coat except stained with transmission fluid. But the guy KNOWS transmissions and is a master at his trade. They have done three jobs for me and one for a friend in the last year and the jobs were done flawlessly. My daughters Honda had a transmission gone and when we picked it up, it was like new. No oil drips, no noise just fixed. My son was told at the local Toyota dealer that he needed the whole rear differential replaced at the cost of about $2500 plus tax. Drove it straight to to Dave's Trans Service and we got it out for $460. It was only wheel bearings and I think Dave knew that before he even looked at it. In summary, if you want a hip waiting room with WiFi and a latte go somewhere else. However, if your transmission needs repair, this is the old fashioned mechanic that knows his beans. Work with the issue of getting it in and leaving it for a week. But expect it will be fixed right and at a fair price when you leave. Can't promise perfection but for me, it has been 4 times happy. read more

I had my truck serviced by them a couple years ago. I recently had an issue that I tried to resolve through a shop closer to home. That shop...which shall remain nameless....was ready to have me spend $2500 on a new transmission. I called Dave and he stood behind his work from a few years ago. He towed it for free. Fixed the issue for free and even caught a couple other minor issues...not free...but very reasonable, and sent me on my way. These two are super trustworthy and should be your first phone call when needing any transmission service. Be warned!, they are so darn popular that they may not be able to get to your repair asap. I am a self employed contractor that has one vehicle to produce a income. I called them November 1st and explained the symptoms and noises that my transmission was making. He explained to me the possible problems and with the mileage on the transmission it would likely need to be replaced. I got him to tell me a ballpark price to replace the transmission to make sure I had enough money. He expressed the importance of diagnosing and fixing my transmission promptly, being it was how I made a living. I was sold on that and he then proceeded to tell me he would have a price quote by the end of the week, November 4th. I dropped the vehicle off the following morning, November 2nd, gave them the key, name, address, phone number and waited for them to call. November 7th, late afternoon they haven't yet called with any information about my vehicle, so I called them. The person who answered the phone was different from the one who I talked to before dropping it off. He had me confused with another client and was explaining what was wrong with their car. I corrected him and told him my name and how I needed to get moving forward with the work on my vehicle. He took my phone number again and told me that they would call back in a couple of days. I continued to wait for their call with a price so I could tell them to move forward with the work. November 15th, I still haven't heard from them and at this point I have lost one job that I was supposed to complete prior to Thanksgiving. I am frustrated that I was lead to believe that they where going to be able to promptly turn my vehicle around within two weeks. I called another mechanic who within 24 hours called me back with a detailed price quote for a rebuilt transmission and installation. November 16th, I went to Dave's to get my vehicle and saw it on their lot. I walked over to see if it was being worked on and it was apparent that nothing had been done and it wasn't lock. Thankfully none of my tools where stolen. I pulled out my spare key, started it and let the windows defrost. In frustration with them, I drove it off their lot without saying a word to them, leaving them with the key that I left them on November 2nd. November 28th, I just picked up my van from the other mechanic who had to replace the transmission. It has a 30,000 mile warranty on it and he showed me the metal shavings and bearings that he found in the old one. I wish I would have taken it there in the first place. I would have some sort of income this month. December 3rd, I still have not received one call from them. I was told they would call me back more than once when they had my vehicle. Have they even noticed that my vehicle hasn't been on there lot since November 16th? I have been contemplating on calling them to see if they have figured out what was wrong with my transmission,lol, just to see what they would say, or if they have noticed it wasn't there anymore. If I owed a business like theirs and noticed a customers vehicle missing. The first thing I would do is call the owner. Bad customer service, disorganized and lack of communication. read more

One of the tool ol' guys - so grateful we still have such honest and dependable people like Dave and his employees. I live in Seattle but was really glad to drive up there after hearing how good he was from another car repair guy (a great Volvo guy who only works on older models, not mine). I generally trust word of mouth, and remember seeing this place many ears ago, driving past - and wondering if it was really good since they specialized just in transmissions, which I thought was pretty cool. So, I ended up going up there, and having them look at my new car, since the tranny seemed "slippy." They were happy to make an appointment and they test drove it, only to tell me that this was how my type of transmission behaved (not as tight as my old Mercedes) and I should have nothing to worry about, at least for a while. They were happy to go over my car a little with me, and really took the time to explain things, such as no need to flush the transmission, and such. I left feeling confident that this place would never try to sell me anything I didn't truly need. They are one of the good old places that goes by the motto of saving you money and gaining a customer - THIS is the way to do business, even if it is hard to find people this honest any more. Dave Jr. and Dave Sr. were amazing. I originally went to King's Transmission for a routine transmission service. It was very hot day in Seattle and for some reason the car was dribbling transmission fluid, which I didn't know until they told me. The fluid wasn't low, the car ran fine. King's didn't put it on the rack, nor did they drive it. They just said I had a leak and could run out of transmission fluid at any time and was too dangerous to drive. They wanted to pull the transmission to check it. I found out from yelp this had happened before and to pull was going to be at least $650 to $1500. They verified this when I and when I asked them to top the fluid so I could get home, surprise, surprise, the fluid wasn't low. I went to 2 more shops who actually rove the car and they both said it ran fine. But they presumed a leak also. Dave presumed nothing. They placed dye in the tranny to determine if there was a leak. Even after 500 miles, there has been no leak. Their thought is that there must have been a burp. Anyway they are the most honest and helpful mechanics I've come across. read more

I would highly recommend this company to anyone needing their transmission repaired. My experience from beginning to end was absolutely great! Honest, kind, welcoming. My car is a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix with 104,000 miles so needless to say I told Dave (the owner) that if the transmission needed to be rebuilt that I wasn't interested because the car wasn't even worth the price of a rebuilt transmission. Came in to pick up my car and not only did he rebuild my transmission but he didn't charge me the full price and my car runs like it's brand new. Reasons for bad review: 1. Left my car with them for 5 days; Car was never repaired 2. Never got a call from them throughout the 5 days 3. Dave allowed his mechanic to take my car home with him after work 4. Said mechanic takes my car for 234 miles worth of joy ride(s) 5. Said mechanic completely empties my tank of gas 6. Business does not reply to complaint issued through the Better Business Bureau (BBB) 7. Joy rides were taken while my car was in a broken state I went to these guys to get the torque converter replaced on my Audi A6. I left my car with them for 5 days. It was supposed to take 3 days to repair. When I didn't get a call from them, I went down in person to pick it up. When I got there, I found that the repair was never done. When I got back in my car, I noticed that the gas tank was nearly empty. I always fill up my gas and write down my car's mileage before taking it in for a service. I dropped it off with 115,167 miles on it. When I picked it up, it had 115,401 miles on it. THEY TOOK IT FOR 234 MILES WORTH OF JOY RIDES! I called Dave and questioned him about this and he said that he allows his mechanics to take the cars home with them. He apologized for the mechanic's actions, but it still doesn't change the facts. I issued a complaint through the Better Business Bureau in order to have a mediator to help through the problem (I still needed my car repaired after all). The BBB tried contacting them but they did not respond. I still need my car repaired, but I am definitely not taking it back to these guys. read more

I have never been moved to write a review about a business before. However, all I can say is that Dave and Dave Jr. went above and beyond to help me out of a "sticky car situation." Up until recently I have gone to Emerald City Auto on Hwy 99 to get all of my service done...but they basically, well...SCREWED ME. Fortunately, Dave and Dave Jr. essentially came running to my rescue....like super heroes. Several months ago they rebuilt the transmission in my 2003 PT Cruiser, when my car broke down again last month, I assumed (incorrectly) that it was the transmission. I called Emerald City Auto and they had me tow to Dave's. When Dave looked at it, he said it wasn't the transmission, it was the timing belt...YUCK! So I called Emerald City Auto to see what it would take to fix it (I should mention that I bought the car from Emerald City Auto about two years ago and 8 months later the transmission fell apart....then 9 months later the timing belt went...EEGAD!) Basically, Jim at Emerald City Auto told me that he doesn't work on cars any more. I asked him to refer someone for me and he said...YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN! I called Dave, a little tearfully, (since my car was there) and he went into "overdrive" trying to find someone to help me out. He was amazing and kind and generous. When he couldn't find anyone who could help me out...he and his son (on their own time) fixed my car for me at a price I could afford. I LITERALLY feel like I met a couple of angels in these men. I HIGHLY recommend their services. Heck...I want to bake them a cake! Many blessings to them!!!! read more

Bottom line: this is an honest and fair shop. They fixed a problem with my low miles 2004 Ford Ranger for a reasonable price. This is not a super-slick, super-clean operation. That is, there's a LOT of cars on the property, it's kinda messy and dirty, and he could use some office help. But, I would still go back because he ultimately does very good work. No fast talking. Great Mechanic! Dave is an honest guy who tells you what the problems might be and what he can do to help fix it. He doesn't try to up-sale you on parts or labor. He graciously diagnosed our Jeep by taking a ride with me in the car to get a feel and hear what might be wrong in order to better service our car. Prices are fair compared to the other quotes I got from other mechanic's in the area, and we are happy with the transmission overhaul we got on our 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Loredo.
