Tran Nails used to be my go to place when I lived in Elmhurst, but I recently moved so I'm only able to go whenever I'm back in town. Of all of the places that I've tried in Chicago, Tran Nails does the best dip manicure and has such a wide variety of colors. I went in 2 days after this past Christmas and my nails are still in perfect condition, no chips or cracks, and it's been 5 weeks. Tran Nails is okay... it's not great but it is what it is. Iv been to Tran Nails about 6 or 7 times for full set gel and regular gel manicures. Their gel manicures usually don't last that long and end up chipping. I even went in one day to ask if they could fix the manicure because I literally had just got it done and they gave me so much attitude. I talked to like 3 people who told me "your nails are fine, it's just a little chip", or "You did that to your nails honey". Like no, your nail job sucked so please fix your mistake. So after talking with I believe the owner Carrie she said she would do them for a $10 charge. I gave in and was like whatever. She rushed through it and did a sloppy job because she was mad she has to do them in the first place. The last time I went to get a full set gel I got white nails with sparkle. I really liked this place when I first came here. But lately I'm having second thoughts and considering finding a new place. My only concern is that the person at the front desk, his name is Ocean, has become rude and inpatient. I don't know if he's stressed or overworked. But he doesn't greet you at all. He's short, rude and direct. He's also, unfortunately, done my nails and he grabs your hands and feet and just throws them forcibly from one place to another. He presses so hard on my nails that it hurts and when I say something he laughs sarcastically and scolds that I should have said something. (I did say something. Terrible! Went in for a pedicure with my girlfriend today. They never asked which pedicure we wanted, and were given just the standard. We were going to get the deluxe and spend twice the amount as the standard. Someone needs to learn how to talk to customers there. Furthermore, my pedicure started 15 minutes after the girlfriends, yet ended at the same time. That is completely ridiculous. WORST manicure i've ever had. i came in 45 minutes before close and asked if they had time to do a no-chip. their answer should have been "no, but we can make you an appointment for tomorrow." because what i received was absolutely terrible. when i sat down, it was explained to me that they usually soak off the previous no-chip, but they were going to use the machine to basically sand off my nail polish instead. "because we close at 8." but they promised it wouldn't harm my nails. should have walked out then. he starts doing it and is sanding down my nails so thin that it is actually painful because the heat from the friction of the tool is getting to my fingers. every time i flinch he pauses, and asks if it hurts. when i say yes, he presses down on my nail with his finger, as if that would fix the problem... all my polish got sanded off, and I got sent to a different tech, a female. i was allowed to soak my fingers for all of 20 seconds, and then my cuticles were ripped off. TWO fingers were bleeding before i went to wash my hands. washed them and got such a rush job that i have polish outside of my nail on 4 fingers of my right hand and 3 of my left hand. (see photos) my nail tech went and put her coat on DURING my manicure so that when i walked out the door at 8:04 (FOUR MINUTES AFTER CLOSE. FOUR. NOT LIKE IT WAS 20 MINUTES LATE) she was RIGHT behind me. that was the worst, most rushed, and rudest experience i've ever had at a salon. definitely will not be using my "buy 9 get one free" card on any future no-chips. So disappointed in such a gorgeous nail salon ! For a Chinese nail salon, it is beautiful and very clean. The problem isn't with the salon or the relaxing massages. The issues I have is with the technicians. At first his place was packed with people. That's what sparked my interest. I walked in the nail salon when new and said I have to come here. Now it's a ghost town and I see why. My first experience was okay. I noticed my nails were a bit crooked. I overlooked that and came a bunch more times. My nails were always so crooked that I started bringing my own Polish incase I have to fix it at home. 3 times ago I told the girl my nails were extremely crooked (in a nice way ) and she started rattling off in Chinese to the other tech. Soooooooooo disappointed that a lovely place like this will hold up to the talking in another language in the Asian nail salon which everyone speaks of. She didn't even use a primer on my nails like they usually do before applying base coat and 2 days later the polish peeled off. 2 trips ago, I got a mani pedi. I got home and my toes were on such extreme angles. I caught the guy doing my filing on my finger nails so fast not even checking his work just taking a few swoops on each nail with the file leaving a complete mess. I asked him to please straighten them out and at least he didn't give me an attitude but he did say that it was his first day and he didn't k ow who the manager is that he just walked in with a friend and started working after being hired over the phone !?!? I got home and had to clip all my toe nails to make them look normal. This last time was pretty crappie as well. I got a mani. Worst mani yet. So being prepared to have my nails uneven , this time I decided to cut and file my own nails before coming in ! Good thing I did because the guy I got SUCKED. They came and had me soak first. (Not knowing I already filed my nails ) then the guy comes and BARELY pushes back my cuticles. Put it in this way it was like I didn't know what to expect and he was tricking me into thinking he was doing my cuticles. I asked him to please do it better. Anyways he never even got a nail file out !!!!! I am so sick of paying for services and not getting what I paid for. So he did most of the cuticle with the nippers. I had him go back to a few nails that had massive cuticles and had him attempt to fix. Then the polish drama started. I asked him to fix and he got a brush out and tried cleaning it up. It looked worse. Then he had the polish going again over the wet top coat. It looked terrible and I told him you think this is okay ?????? He started yelling at his friend in Chinese and they were apparently talking crap. His friend was servicing my boyfriend who had the worst manicure ever. His nails were so short and uneven. There were little points by the finger from cutting be it not all the way across. His nails were so short and she broke some skin and she started buffing them so hard core his nails were paper thin. His nails had a yellow tint when we left. He is in so much pain today and yesterday. We spoke to the manager and all she said was she would fix them. He said no thanks it's all off and there's nothing to fix. She didn't even offer a refund or another manicure when he felt better. My polish looked like a Child painted them. I went to ulta to buy the polish to come home and redo them myself since we have a special occasion and even the girl said where did you go ?????? This is a hidden gem! I am very, very, very picky regarding nail salons. This one I was very surprised to find last Saturday. As much as I love it the only reason for the 4 star is the extra services that would take it over the edge, 1. Offer people a drink while there. It doesn't take to much money to have bottled water, tea and or coffee. There are places with same to lower prices that even offer wines. 2. The after service after while you are drying or if you paid while drying. Some people got cards for discount when they come back others didn't. And don't leave us hanging or even say goodbye when the majority of the staff is sitting around at the desks on their phones. Now the service was good. They do time the service like the massage which was good because you know what you are getting. Very clean nice place. Amanda always does my nails here and she is just amazing! She tries to get to know the client. Place looks very clean and friendly. I have had pedis done by others, and they do a good job, I know they set a timer up for themselves to know if they lasted to long with a client, and to me it feels like they might rush if the time is running out, but I have had instances where the timer goes off and they are no where near done, and they don't rush, they keep doing what they are doing. Very very pleased customer. I decided to try this salon after reading Yelp reviews and I was not disappointed. Salon itself was very clean and spacious. The staff was prompt and friendly. They are fairly new and been open 3months. I went for a regular pedicure (start off at $27) and expected the usual routine. My nail technician "Ocean" was detail oriented and exceeded my expectations. The massage and scrub was the best and the warm towels were steaming! (Which he cool down before placing on my feet). I took all my nail polish off before going in and went in and wanted glitter nail polish as tips - they wanted to charge me $15 bucks for that!
