Trailhead is such a gem up here in Trinity County. If you've ever been up here, there are not a lot of options for food. It's pretty remote and so it could easily be yep this is the food we've got and it's either good or not and just take it or leave it. That's not the case with trailhead pizza first off the location is amazing. There's a huge outdoor area. Kids can be running around. You're right near the creek and they've got an amazing beer selection. The service and the staff are all super welcoming and nice. Now to the pizza we had a huge group here I think about 17 or 18 people. They got us all set up at side-by-side picnic tables outside our waitress was super kind. I think her name was Kristine. She also gave us a heads up that it will be a little bit of time for the pizzas because they can only fit 3 to 4 pizzas in their oven at a time, but it would be worth the way and she was absolutely right. The pizza is just really darn good. There's some really fun options. The kids devoured it. Also we got a bunch of salads for the table and they were all super good. The Caesar and I think the other one was like a Greek or house salad. They were really great with the kids too. We got them all root beer floats, which they of course devoured. I've been coming up to Trinity for 25 years and usually stay at the KOA Campground in Trinity Center and really glad to have trailhead as a place to stop if you want a break from hotdog or burgers at the campsite . read more

this place was an absolute gem. my husband and i live in big sur but trinity is our happy place / we try to get up here as often as we can- this was our first time at trailhead pizza and it did not disappoint. we popped in around 330 pm saturday after a hike & were able to be seated right away (even on their busiest weekend of the year- 4th of july). the service was fantastic, the outdoor seating area was magical- corn hole, picnic tables, a stage, etc, & the menu was 10/10. we only got a pizza & some beverages- they had a wonderful beer list & incredible root beer floats & milkshakes (highly recommend the banana chocolate one). the prices were super reasonable & the whole staff could not have been nicer. we can't wait to come back. read more

This is my family's favorite pizza place. We have to visit every time that we visit our grandpa at his house in Trinity! The service is always great, and the pizzas are wood fired and delicious! The ambiance is peaceful and relaxing. I would recommend sitting outside on their beautiful patio! My personal favorite pizzas are their blue artichoke, Gloria, dakine, and trailhead pizzas. Pro-tip, order ahead! On Friday nights it can get busy and with a small pizza oven it can take awhile, so we called to place orders and they were all delivered within 10 minutes of being seated for a big party of 12! The atmosphere here is magical, the games are fun for kids to play and the lights in the trees make it feel so special. The food is FANTASTIC with some of the best pizza crust I've had since being in Europe. You don't just happen to go by this place, but you wish you could. We stopped here on the way home from backpacking. Pizza is even better after a few days of freeze dried food. But this pizza is good anytime...all the time. The service is great, the restaurant is homey, and the pizza is thin crust and tasty. Highly recommend if you are going anywhere on Hwy 3. We tried Hawaiian and all meat and loved both. Their milkshakes are also good. read more

Oh gosh. I'll give it 4 cause it's definitely a 4 for the area (maybe even a five for Trinity county). The pizza. It's good. Not blow your mind good, but really pretty good. I really appreciate their thin crust and their creative topping combinations. Yay for jalapeños. The pulled pork. Really quite tasty. Other pros: the outside patio - it's really really quite perfect. The pizza and salads are amazing. The wait to get a table most weekends however is not. Make a reservation if you can. And always call ahead either way to make sure they are actually open. Summer and winter hours are different. I don't think they stay open past Halloween at all. Fire season can also throw off the hours and the best time to go is in June. read more

My family loves going to "the pizza place" We like to sit downstairs near the stage and grass area so the kids can wander a bit while waiting for their food. Speaking of which, the food is delicious! Pizzas are great and every other meal we have had was great as well! It's so peaceful having a glass of wine surrounded by the forest and I love watching the grapes grow! Hands down best pizza, bread sticks, milkshakes, and restaurant salad I've ever had. The wait can be really long during busy season, but it is so worth it. The crust is perfectly crispy, the toppings taste fresh, the marinara is yummy. You absolutely have to try the bread sticks if you go. The ranch is even homemade. Travis and Gary providing quality live music on Friday and Saturday was really the cherry on top. Me and my family camp by Trinity Lake often, and we had a tradition of going to Trailhead for dinner one night of our trip for quite some time. However, we've stopped this tradition recently. Never eaten indoors, but the outdoor area is amazing. It's well decorated and the trees and plants are beautiful. The staff is for the most part good, although we've had one or two negative experiences with waiters. The pizza is delicious, never tried any of the other food. The thing that's stopped my family's tradition, however, is the wait times. Maybe there's something going on behind the scenes to cause this, but I'm unsure. The wait has always been a little longer than expected, but it's progressively got way longer. The last time we went, we made reservations for 6 and ordered a few minutes later, then about 2 hours later the waitress said our pizzas had been started. They came out 30 minutes later at 8:30. Overall a good place, but to any people who aren't extremely patient, be warned. read more

Really? I don't have the first review of Trailhead Pizza? Dang. I guess I'll settle for number two. Trailhead Pizza has good food, simply put. Everything is cooked in a nice brick oven. The pizza comes out fresh, hot and crispy. There are a few options to choose from on the menu. I got a simple pepperoni and olive pizza. Simple but delicious. There are also more gourmet choices like a pizza with grapes and fet cheese. I'll bet that would be tasty. I know a couple people up in the neighborhood who are happy this place opened. Not only is it one of the few restaurants of any sort in the area, it is also the return of fresh food since the original establishment that stood on that location burned down several years ago. Do yourself a favor and stop in next time you are driving on Highway 3. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. The food is great, the outdoor seating is fantastic, and they give the best customer service I've experienced in that area. If you want a true small town hospitality feel, go here. They also so kindly were our saving grace after our car broke down for up a mountain road about 8 miles from here. A family brought us here and they had no questions about allowing us use their land line (no cell service for a 1 hour drive), getting us recommendations for vendors, calling their local friends for recommendations, and making us feel completely at home given the situation. We went there for pizza the 4 th of July. Staff wore masks. The tables were distanced outside in the yard in back. We had a tasty salad with greens, feta, beets. The ranch dressing was homemade. They have wood oven to cook the pizza in. We had the one with spinach, artichoke. Make reservations ahead of time as covid calls for distancing, etc. so not as many can be served at the same rate as before. read more

We were visiting family in Trinity Center who raved about the pizza. We went to the restaurant about 7:20 this evening to order some pizzas to go. I went inside and asked the hostess if we could still order a couple pizzas to go. She said, yes of course. I asked if I could take the menu outside to show my wife. Not a problem. A few minutes later I came back in to place our order. There was now a young man at the register, who was cashing out someone and seemed to be having a bit of difficulty as the people wanted to split the bill. In any case, I waited about 5 minutes and I was assisted. I told the young man that I wanted to order two pizzas to go. He said, "we're not serving anymore". I explained to him that the hostess told me a few minutes ago that I could place an order. He said "no, but I'll double check". He came back and said "we're not serving anymore". Well, it was quite disappointing that we drove to have your pizza and to be turned away. What was bothersome besides that was having this young man wanting to get in the last word, "I'll have you know we stopped serving 30 minutes ago". In addition, the sign says open till 8. So maybe some better communication amongst the staff as to are serving or not, and maybe post the appropriate time as to when you close? Just a thought. Maybe the young man at the counter could learn a little bit of savvy, working with customers and making a disappointing experience a better one. We went in after two days on the trail. I agree with the reviewer that said the ambiance would be a 5. The staff and service was also great. I wish I could rate it higher, but unfortunately the pizza - which I had been fantasizing about for the previous four hours - was just average. Maybe the other selections are better, but I wouldn't give this a second chance after the meal we had. We got two veggie pizzas, and I bet the meat versions are better, but I could have had the same pizza had I put a DiGorno's frozen pizza on my barbeque grill. The wood-fired crust was great. I've eaten here a lot, whenever I'm in the area. The people are very friendly and the food is really awesome! Lots of pizza choices plus other menu items. One of my favorites is the Tri-Tip sandwich with wasabi mayonnaise. They have good beers and a great wine selection. Inside or outside dining, (summertime), with live music. read more

This has been a popular place to count on for great food n atmosphere but greatly disappointed this year . They have cut back their days n hours . Who closes on a weekend or holiday at 8:00 pm ! And is this good business to be closed more than you are opened at the peak season of summer ? Do the owners / managers care that they turn people away and are loosing money? I guess not . Thanks Trailhead for nothing not even taking it into consideration that you are the only option for locals n tourist in the evening hours . Very limited hours open now I assume because they opened another one in Weaverville 40 minutes away . This place was a quaint little place with a great little atmosphere. The pizza was good , I loved that it was wood fired. The food was pretty average, the soda comes in a can and the pizza wasn't my favorite. But I loved the atmosphere and the friendly service. The servers are great, the beer is cold and the pizza and calzones are delicious. If you are ever up in the Trinity area make it a point to give them a visit.
