Your online menu states that Sirloin Tips come with a salad and one side for $24. I ordered mine medium with a baked potato. When I picked up my order, the total was $30. Upon arriving home, I found the steak tips overdone and chewy, the baked potato hard, and no salad included. This was one of the worst steak dinners I've ever had. This restaurant seems to be a local place (not a chain). It was the last restaurant for me to try on my tour of Natchitoches dining. I would say this place had the feel of child whose parents were Logan's and Outback. I saw some similarities of both of those chains here. We were welcomed by a very friendly waitress who was very knowledgeable and attentive. We started with an appetizer of fried pickles. When they were brought to us, it was a mountain of fried goodness on a plate. There was more than enough for our party of five (and we didn't even eat them all). They also brought out fresh baked bread (similar to Outback). It was good, especially with their honey butter. I ordered a country fried steak, as I was feeling nostalgic to my Texas roots. I ordered the sweet potato as my side. The steak was descent and the sawmill gravy was good. The sweet potato had a ton of butter and sugar. I would recommend getting that on the side. My meal also came with a salad. The salad was OK. There was so much food that I couldn't eat it all. Overall, this was a great experience. My husband ordered a well done steak. When I got to the table and he cut into it it was red! He sent it back and asked for a well done, came back again and there was blood all over the plate and it was still red. We called the manager over and told her to just take it off our check. Then we see the cook LAUGHING AT US! Smiling and joking about how our food turned out. The waitress then told the cook "let them talk all that sh*t". Do not recommend and will never go back. We drove 45 mins just to eat here. One of our favorite places in Natchitoches for the past 20 years and this service was by far the WORST service I've ever had. We waiting 15 mins for someone to take our order. I got my food while the other 4 people waited 20 mins for theirs. My sister received her side of fries and her entree came 15 mins later. This place was pretty good. Not the best, but def. not the worst! It's decorated in western decor' on steroids, it's a little overboard. They give you a bucket of peanuts at the door and encourage you to toss the shells on the floor. Decor and peanut mess aside, the staff was friendly, fast and eager to please. It was fresh baked and tasty. For an appetizer we ordered Cheese Fries. They were great! HUGE order and fantastic! I ordered the Tuna Steak topped with Pico and Baked Potato. It was covered in onions, not really Pico, but once I pushed that aside, the Tuna Steak was good. Cooked and seasoned well but smaller than I think is fair for the price. The potato was perfection! Cooked perfectly, hot and smooth, just perfect! The Husband ordered the Ribeye and Baked Potato. It looked like a big great cut of meat. The husband said it was pretty good but I thought it looked great, although I didn't actually taste it but may order it on our next visit it looked so good. I posted pics of our meal, check them out. Wowzers! The place was hopping. Saturday night favorite of the town apparently. We were looking for a place to get a variety of things. Love the peanut shells everywhere on the floor. We had the fried pickles. YUM! This place is ranch dressing friendly. It's a pet peeve that restaurants only give you an ounce of ranch with whatever you order. Not this place, they give you a whole bowl of ranch! Can I get an AMEN! I had the cowboy ribeye, hubby had the same. The other couple with us had the chicken fried steak and they loved it. The worse steakhouse Ive been to. I used to come here back when I lived here and it was ok but I didnt know better. Ive traveled all over in the oilfield and have had some good steaks. I checked the reviews and cringed but joined a big party to hang out. Everyone that ordered steak, it was not cooked they way they asked. One even said take it back and remove from my order. Trail Boss was one of the better restaurants in Natchitoches when I went to NSU (2002 - 2006). Essentially, Trail Boss is almost the same thing as Outback Steakhouse. The salads are the same, you get the same delicious bread, and the steaks, burgers, etc. are all good. You also get peanuts here (a la Texas Roadhouse and countless other chains) and they have excellent sweet tea. The staff is always friendly and almost anyone can find something to eat here. They also have a private space in the back if you have a large group or want to have a party. We used it plenty when I lived in Natchitoches. To sum it up, If you are a tourist in Natchitoches, and have been to Outback, I don't recommend going here as there are several GREAT Louisiana-style restaurants in town that are worth trying out. read more
