Staff were friendly and service was good. Started with garlic bread and a pint, then I had the steak and black pudding pie while my wife had the Mongolian beer. Both very tasty and served piping hot. Cleaned the plates! A sundae for desert was a good way to finish. Regular bar in the other room was crowded and noisy - seems like a popular meeting spot. Altogether a very pleasant experience

Getting here was the most special, maybe. Having driven a car on the left for the first time ever on this day, wanting to have a beer or two, and staying in an apartment in nearby Corpach, we didn't really want to drive on this evening. On a beautiful evening, we investigated the Corpach waterfront (the end (the beginning?) of the Caledonian Canal) and took in the unbelievable views along the waterfront path (the Corpach shipwreck, Ben Nevis, the loch, and so on), and we wandered on over to Caol and the Lochy. (We returned via the canal path itself; you can jump on just across the street from the Lochy.) I see from Tripadvisor that plenty of tourists get to the Lochy, but it sure seemed like a locals' spot on the night we were there, with a number of families present. Although the outside of the place suggests that it might contain a dim warren of rooms, it's actually a couple of brightly lit larger rooms with a bar in the middle, where you order your food and drinks. Venison burger for me was pretty tasty--although it came only with caramalized onions and goat cheese, which left things a little dry--and the wife's fish and chips were OK. Like I say above, the food was fine, but not especially memorable. Several beers were on draft, and everything was reasonably priced. 3.5 stars.

It's such a great atmosphere with a cozy area to eat in front of a wood-burning cast iron stove. It's a very pet friendly place as well. We saw a cute doggie enjoying the warmth inside the bar. We ordered the chicken casserole special. It was good despite the price being a little too high for what it was. I'd expect to have a puff pastry on top of it for that price. Although, it was very tasty even though the presentation was not all that great. It was served with mash potatoes instead of chips. It was good. They have a big variety of local taps. I went with the Jock Pumpkinhead Stout from Loch Lomond Brewery while my husband had the Man O'Hoy from Orkney Brewery. We were very happy with our local brew selections. It was a very nice atmosphere for lunch. If you're a Harry Potter fan, then you may want to take that hike from here to the filming location of Hagrid's Hut. The pathway up to the hut is just a short walk from the inn. The inn itself is kind of unique with the ice ax and ski décor. It reminded me a little of Ketchikan for some reason. Maybe it was the 5 Points of Contact photo that I saw by Peter Daynes. There's also a display of ice axes designed by Hamish MacInnes. Our tour guide in Ketchikan was coincidentally named Hamish. Wow, everything does come around full circle. It all turned out to be a nice lunch experience in the Highlands.

The ambiance is unlike anything you have experienced. Inside, there is a bar at one end and the kitchen is behind the bar. They offer a limited selection of beer, wine and cider. From the appearance of the bar, they offer dozens of types of Scotch whiskey. We entered and went to the bar to let them know we were here. We got to our table and ordered a beer for me and a glass of wine for my wife. The menu consists of many types of steak with a seafood, chicken or vegetarian dish. We both chose the pan fried hake filet with creamed leaks, cubed potatoes and herb oil. Our dinner arrived in around 20 minutes and looked great. I wanted to start eating immediately, but I took the time to snap a picture. We both thought the taste was excellent. This was one of the culinary highlights of the trip. We strongly recommend that you make reservations weeks in advance if you want to eat here.

The charcoal grilled 6 week dry aged steaks have wonderful flavour. Personally I'd have preferred proper chips than skinny (and slightly hard) French fries. However, my biggest disappointment was that, in the 21st century, and with such great care and pride of their steaks, why on earth does this "pub" not serve any proper, naturally conditioned, real ales. There are so many stunning ales available these days that can compliment the most sophisticated of meals, to be offered a range of pressurised, flavourless keg beers was a real let-down.
