There is no getting turned around here. The waiting area seemed to have room for everyone and was clean. Smaller planes are typically coming in and out of here, so you are not bunched up with 200 other people at your gate. They don't have a ton of shopping or dining options, but there are only like 7 gates, they are not going to have the amenities of a large airport. Bring a snack and enjoy not having to show up 3 hours before your flight.

Unfortunately, my experience with the security checkpoint over the past year has become increasingly frustrating. I have TSA PreCheck and use the available facial/Touchless ID process when it is offered. Yet despite having PreCheck clearly reflected on my boarding pass, my recent experiences have repeatedly involved additional screening that seems completely disproportionate to the number of passengers in the checkpoint. On my most recent trip, as has happened repeatedly over the past year, I was told I had been selected for a "random" additional check. This has now happened to me approximately ten consecutive times. I have been required to remove my shoes and send them through screening again, have had my belongings subjected to additional screening, and have been subjected to pat-downs on multiple occasions. On one recent visit, it took approximately 30 minutes to get through security despite there being only around 10-15 people in the entire security area. At some point, repeated "random" screening stops feeling random from the passenger's perspective. When the vast majority of people standing in an almost empty security area are being pulled aside for additional screening, it raises legitimate questions about whether the procedures are being applied consistently and whether staff are adequately trained on the screening protocols associated with TSA PreCheck. What is especially frustrating is that passengers are standing around watching this happen and openly asking one another, "Why are they checking everyone?" People are having to unpack belongings, remove additional items, wait for repeated screening, and in some cases undergo pat-downs when there is virtually no line to begin with. I fully understand and support the need for airport security. This is not a complaint about security measures themselves. It is a complaint about the apparent inconsistency, the excessive amount of additional screening, the amount of time it takes, and the lack of clear communication to passengers about why these procedures are occurring. A small airport like Amarillo should be an easy and pleasant airport to travel through. Instead, the security experience has become a source of unnecessary frustration. I would strongly encourage airport management and TSA leadership to review what is happening at the Amarillo checkpoint, including how often passengers are being selected for additional screening, how PreCheck passengers are being processed, how long these screenings are taking, and whether additional training or supervisory oversight is needed. I have continued to fly through Amarillo because I love the convenience of this airport and the community it serves. But the current security experience is unacceptable, and after five years of frequent travel through AMA, I feel this needs to be addressed. Rating: 1/5 stars. I hope someone in a position to address this will actually read this and investigate what is happening at the checkpoint rather than simply dismissing it as an individual passenger complaint.

Thankfully it is a small airport and not very busy like Newark or O'Hare. Seems like the X-ray machine they use locks up on occasions. Plus it does not prioritize who ever is dropping off their bags at the closest station to the machine. This last time I watched the bags of the person two spots behind me get scanned before my first bag did and then the guy ended up still waiting longer than me on the other side. This makes zero sense and forces a lot of people to wait for that last bin with their stuff to come thru. The few tsa agents I interacted with were friendly and they get a separate 5 STAR rating from me.

I'm a larger customer, over 6 feet tall and over three hundred pounds, and over the past two years it's been harped on by the staff more and more, I've watched them try and nickel and dime their customers, jack up the prices, and over all they're turning into the same kind of crap I've avoided with every other airline out there. I regularly take this same flight to go visit my home town, and a flight that used to cost about $250 on a bad day with A1-A15 boarding round trip is now going to cost double that BEFORE they try and say I have to pay for an extra seat that "Might" get refunded if the plane doesn't fill up. Mind you, I tend to sit near the mid/back of the plane anyway because I know it's not ideal to sit right next to me anyway and I pick an edge seat knowing my knees will be bashing into everything. So, why am I writing this now? Because it's getting worse, and it's about to make me cancel the card I've had for years and just go with a competitor, because there's NO value with Southwest anymore. My card member rewards are downgraded as of this year, my flight is costing me more just to get there, I'm being hounded to buy a second seat and they "Might refund it" I Really, truly hope whatever insanity has taken over this company gets washed out in the coming months. I've never seen a team handle three simultaneous issues of a canceled flight, a flight delayed due to a mechanical issue, and all the computer systems being down, with such efficiency, dignity, and grace. I look forward to coming through Amarillo in the future, hopefully with less issues.
