I'm a huge fan of Trader Joe's. Their Two Buck Chuck was all I could afford to get tipsy on weekends during my 20s. And that wine even tasted pretty good, too. Trader Joe's has still somehow stayed affordable to this day. I am addicted to their pita chips and dark chocolate candy bars. Their produce selection is fresh and also not too pricey. The store may be small, with only a handful of aisles, but it packs each aisle with intriguing products and food. I've tried peanut butter-filled pretzels, chocolate-covered raisins, various beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), dips, cheeses, and even bought some quick birthday cards - and I have never been disappointed. The cashiers are also friendly, quick, and positive. They almost always say something positive about the treats I've picked out and seem genuinely concerned about how my day is going. GETTING HERE: This TJ's is located on Victoria Avenue in the Wal-mart shopping center in Ventura. Look for Spring Garden and you'll be good to go. Please do note that parking can more often be a rough go if you're near the front entrance. I head towards Wally world to park and then head over. REVIEW: Where do I begin? I love their holiday endcaps; it's one of my favorite things to check out during the holidays. :) Service is usually always friendly, from the staff on the floor to the checkers. Love their flowers. Love their fruit. Love their holiday items. My usual go-to's are their butterscotch chocolate balls and then whatever else catches my eye. This visit was for fruit, brookies, and I've been wanting to try to TJ's mini pizzas as I have been waxing philosophical for Pizza Hut. I do recommend them. Enjoy! My retired "unofficial adopted mother" insists on visiting this Trader Joe's when I take her out for her grocery shopping. We have been going here for years now and I have never had a bad experience. The employees are always kind, make eye contact and talk to you like they know you. The store is always clean and well stocked, except the time they ran out of blue berries and we need to hit up the other Trader Joe's in town. I don't care much for grocery shopping, who does. But when it comes to going here I really don't mind and sometimes actually enjoy my visits. Wait, am I saying I liked grocery shopping? Time to take a break from the internet. :-) read more

I have visited this Trader Joe's only a handful of times since moving to Oxnard 7 months ago. I decided to check out all the Christmas goodies. TJ's didn't disappoint. I also picked up some Fuyu persimmons that I was just thinking about how I had not seen them at my grocery shop trips at different stores the last few weeks. It wasn't as busy as I expected either and I was shopping at 11:00am on a Saturday. Other shoppers were relatively polite and the cashier was quick and friendly. I can't wait to try the Stollen with Marzipan. I usually get them from Aldi and this one was $2.00 cheaper. So I am very interested to see how they compare. Easy service, easy parking, wider Trader Joe's than other places in California. It's close to Walmart and usually they are not close to each other. Line service was quick and friendly. It's close to a major highway and a major road. It's easy access. And Ahed More things than the Trader Joe's in Monterey probably because that one is small. The employees are always so nice here. They have great gluten free options such as the cookies, califlower microwavables, cereal, etc. I was looking for the Rare Earth Cabernet Wine and someone knew exactly where it was. I read online that this wine has "no sulfites added" since it is organic. I am hoping this less sulfites in wine = less hungovers is true! Organic wine contains with less sulfites ppm than non-organic wine. However, all wine for the most part contains sulfites regardess. I love how TJ's has a variety of options. I always come here to stock up for the week. I always like giving my friends TJ's giftcards as gifts. read more

Great customer service. The cashier was so pleasant and quick checking me out. I loved that she stared a convo with me. I am one that loves when people engage and chit chat. I felt seen, lol! So ... I was looking for a light dinner to detox from all the holiday fun.. score! I found myself at TJs! My salad was spectacular! Their brand grilled chicken, dressing , sunflower seeds and salad mixes were what my taste buds and tummy needed! I really enjoy all their store brand stuff. It's always tasty! I am one happy gal. I have chips and rice for another meal on another night. I have salad for days and that makes me happy. Oh and kombucha too for only 2.99. About a buck cheaper than Vons or other stores. My husband typically shops at this Trader Joe's. A couple of weeks ago, the cashier gave him a free box of Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Covered Peppermint cookies Joe Joes. I love Trader Joe's! The staff here is always friendly. I love buying my fruits, vegetables, snacks and frozen meals here. They use fresh and natural ingredients. The items are affordable. And they have a lot of options if you have food allergies or on certain diets. During the pandemic, they have a clearly marked line outside the store. Wear your mask. And they'll give you a clean basket or clean shopping cart and you can see them wipe everything down before you walk in. Be prepared to wait for about 5-10 min in line if you come in during a busy time. Don't bring your tote bags. They'll give you free paper brown bags for now. Love the service and feel safe shopping here. Lots of parking in the lot. read more

Another visit to TJ's tonight and the place never ceases to amaze me with their consistency! Great location with limited parking at times. Helpful staff who are willing to "go the extra" to answer a question or help you locate the perfect cheese for a party. The staff are also great about remembering faces and what people's faves are. This Trader Joe's is located in an older strip mall next to an old Walmart. By the looks of the exterior I wasn't too hopeful as to what the inside of the store looked like. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised! The interior of the store is quite large, actually. And, like all Trader Joe's it is laid out well and organized very nicely. The employees were friendly, & the sample area was neat and clean. I learned that Charles Shaw has a new organic line of their wines. Decided to grab a bottle of organic cab to try it out. Didn't know Charles Shaw was getting so fancy! This isn't the closest traders to me, but now that I know this one is nearby-I'll stop in if running errands on this side of town. :) read more

I love this Trader Joe's! I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 4 months ago. I have been trying to figure out what foods make me feel better. I decided to go gluten free. My husband and I went to the front desk of Trader Joe's and spoke to Anne. Anne took us on a tour of the whole store and went up and down every Isle of the store and showed us every gluten free product!! She also told us if the staff had tried the food and if it was good! Anne was so kind to us. It made having fibromyalgia not so scary. I have been in the store before and it always looks amazing and clean and everyone is so friendly, but what Anne did for me that day was more then just friendly service. Anne saw another human being in need and reached out and was beyond kind. I will never forget what she did for me. I have been living in a world of pain, doctors and sadness and Anne made me smile that day. Thank you Anne for making a difference in my life. Thank you Trader Joe's for hiring people like Anne! I've made this my to go TJ now. Since I've moved this place is conveniently located on the main road that leads to the freeway. Easy to stop and go in and out and into he freeway. I always try to go right in the morning and everyone is happy and willing to help you. Go to the back and try a sample and a little shot of coffee to get you going. My favorite thing to get here are cards, flowers and salads. All cards are only $.99 and have very unique and beautiful designs. Fresh flowers are gorgeous and reasonably priced. Need a quick gift, get some potter plants, succulents or a small bunch of flowers. And the salads are just fresh and super tasty. Always clean and plenty of parking out in front. read more

I went to the Ventura Trader Joe's on Victoria Avenue today. I don't personally know anyone who works at that store, but their cordial, floral-patterned legion of well informed smile-mongers leave me feeling energized and empowered. In my opinion, TJ's is the Whole Foods for people with more sense than cents. It's the only place where you can get a honey crisp apple candle, positive affirmation, and an imported prosciutto platter under the same roof. The world is your free trade oyster and anything is possible in TJ's. In fact, I defy you to stand puzzled or perplexed in a TJ's aisle without a blossom-shirted angel descending upon you with soothing guidance and a retracted box cutter. Today, I was stricken with indecision in front of the TJ's Pumpkin Curry Simmer Sauce display and, within minutes, a Crew Member noted my desperation and greeted me with a caring smile and an authentic, "hello, can I help?" But my story does not end there. She stopped what she was doing and escorted me to the shiitake mushroom cooler area near the chilled salad dressings and diced vegetables, while simultaneously detailing a Sriracha Shiitake Pho recipe for me to take home to my family as my own. Not surprisingly, it turned out to be the perfect complement for the exotic gourd-based simmer sauce. I'm a middle-aged man with bad feet, a wife, three grown children and severe astigmatism who never hit a home run or attended my high school prom (long story; my third cousin, Phyllis, had to get her wisdom teeth pulled), but thanks to Trader Joe's I know the magical feeling of being the center of attention for a time. I've always been a fan of TJ's, and I'm now a fan of TJ's Pumpkin Curry Simmer Sauce. The Sriracha Shiitake Pho dish was simple, earthy and kind of meaty - ironically, not unlike my cousin Phyllis. Trader Joes does not carry any name brand groceries. It's all on their own label. However, they do have a lot of interesting products, often much more interesting than what is typically carried at the supermarket. Prices are also usually pretty reasonable. People all have their own favorite items at Trader Joes, but I particularly like many of their frozen foods. They have terrific frozen enchiladas, lasagnas and several interesting Indian foods. Well, there's a lot I could say about Trader Joe's, but this particular one really excels in their customer service! Do we sometimes have some staff members that are not the happiest people in the world? Sure, but overall all of their staff is really awesome. They always try to help you as much as they can and their cashiers always make my kids smile with those delicious Mexican lollipops. I have been coming here every Sunday for a few years now and one thing that keeps bringing me back is their prices and their variety of food. From their dehydrated mushrooms, to their addicting mini pickles and not to mention their .19 cent banana's! This place has a lot of delicious items. Yes, I still go to Whole Foods when I have to and Trader Joe's will never compare to them, but they don't really have to. I love the simplicity of the store and the interaction I am able to have with their staff, that is what makes my experience so enjoyable. Keep up the good work TJ's! read more

On Thur 03/26/20 my mother & I had a plan of attack for our errands (durning COVID 19); routine bloodwork @ Kaiser on Hill St, Trader Joe's & Walmart on Victoria Ave. Kaiser: At the front door a quick set of questions & your temp. The nurses/techs made it seem safer to go in. Lab was limited contact, perfect! No handling of your ID & Med card. I would have waited outside, but my mom is disabled & elderly. Trader Joe's: Mom stayed in the car where she could people watch and be warm in the sun. I was about 12th in line but it moved along nicely. An ee was at the door directing 1 out & then 1 in the door plus a clean cart!! She and all of us were smiling & enjoying being out safely. There was another ee gathering carts & spraying all of the carts down!! Clerk tried not touching the bags I brought & offered clean paper bags instead. I just packed my own bags to help & not waist their bags. Everyone did a good job of shopping & working safely!!!! Walmart: I was basically shocked when I entered the store. The only precautions taken were peices of tape every 6 feet at the pharmacy! Of couse they had the wipes for the carts, but, that didn't feel like enough. This is my go to Walmart where my boyfriend & I go so often that people have gotten to know us a bit & visa versa. It was disheartening to see these people not being protected in any way. I love this store but I'd give them a D- on that day. On a normal day they'd deserve a B+... Be safe and STAY HOME unless you NEED to go out. read more

Let me just say, I FREAKIN LOVE TRADER JOE'S!!! I have been grocery shopping at TJs for a number of years, probably since I lived in Santa Barbara & attended UCSB. Yes, that long ago! I had no idea what they were, but once I discovered the stores, I was hooked! The Victoria Avenue location in Ventura was my Trader Joe's that I went to regularly while I lived in Oxnard from 2009-2013. It by far has the worst parking lot of any Trader Joe's I've been to with the exception of one in the Valley. I think the best time to go to this location is first thing in the morning just before they open. Avoid going anytime after 12 noon, but especially after 5pm! Other than that, everything is great! What makes me love them so much is they have everything you could really need... Whole foods, meats, cheeses, a huge wine & beer selection, prepackaged meals, great desserts/sweets, breads, yummy junk food, health foods, vitamins, spices, seasonings, sauces, toiletries, pet food, a huge nut selection, plant based options for Vegans & WFPB people such as myself. I love them even more after transitioning to a WFPB/Vegan life style. They have a number of options available & it is not expensive. There are so many great things to purchase & they are always developing new items. Recently I found vegan Pumpkin Cinnamon rolls, vegan pesto, Kung Pao cauliflower bites, young jack fruit in brine, a really great low fat pasta sauce, red lentil pasta, sprouted wheat bagels, dark cocao powder, vegan marshmallows & a number of other things I'm sure I forgot. They also have the cleanest & most organized stores. They are super friendly & encourage interaction with customers. I've NEVERRRRRR seen an unhappy employee at TJ's! EVERYTHING ABOUT TJ'S IS WONDERFUL! I don't think I can think of a bad thing to say or ever had a negative experience, in the multiple locations I've visited all over California in the last 12-15 years! If you're 1 of a million people who has not shopped here, YOU NEED TO GO!!! You have no excuse & before you go research what TJ items are the most popular & buy them & try them out. My favorite place to food shop. Ths location is much larger and has more choices than the Ventura mall location and parking is okay despite the Walmart now in the old Kmart location. I like their wine selections, their cheeses, and their frozen food options. I can grab one of their ready made salads and can easily read the contents and calorie count so I know what I am getting. There is even a fork included. Even though check out lines can be long especially during the food holidays, the lines move along and the checkers seem happy to be there. When I catch an employee in the wine area they are informative and give me good recommendations. Back to wine again, I really do like wandering this well-labeled area which seems roomier than the mall location, and not dark and towering like Von's wine dept. read more
