I was in the city for some other activities and decided to check out a SF TJ's. This one has a parking structure, which is helpful! Everything was totally on par for your regular TJ's. I found the items I wanted easily, employees were friendly. One thing that was kind of awkward was the music...it was loud and very explicit to where it made me uncomfortable. I'm no pearl clutcher, but a plethora of f bombs and nasty talk at 10 am while I'm selecting avocados is a bit much. Other than that...it was a good experience. read more

I think Trader Joe's is my grocery haven wherever I go. They have all the essentials you need if you want simple meals and snacks on a more affordable budget than just eating out every day. This location served what I needed and more with excellent customer service and an inventory of pretty much everything here. Think this location really likes cheese because it has the greatest cheese selection at any TJs I've been to. The store itself was also very organized and definitely walkable from the pier side and anywhere around Bay St. or North Beach. I'll definitely keep this shop in mind the next time I'm in town. It was a pleasant surprise to find a Trader Joe's in the middle of the city with free parking nearby. It is only a few blocks away from Fisherman's Warf. It was relatively crowded for a Sunday morning. Trader Joe's always has the best unsalted tortilla chips, large selection of whole grain pastas, and fresh fruits and veggies. The workers here were friendly and helpful as I was also looking for items that were unique to the region. If you have kids, free stickers are also available. read more

Everyone knows what a delight Trader Joe's is (except maybe on breads and some produce). And the staff is always amazing. Best things right now: -Boozy chocolates: not only do they pack little punches of rum, gin, whiskey, and prosecco (the last paired with white chocolate) , the chocolate itself is excellent. -Egyptian Sourdough Pocket Bread: frozen; gently heat in the oven and it's a huge hit with falafel. -Gingerbread sandwich cookies: gorgeous and amazingly delicious. They look like the holidays in a box and make great party gifts. Pine bark brown with white cream and a dusting of sugar on the top that looks like fresh snow. You feel like you're in Switzerland. They are soft and fantastic wirh coffee too. -Garlicky Pasta: one of my all-time favorites. Savory, Al dente, and Perfect. This is not creamy, but deeply satisfying and comforting. -Nantucket Cranberry Pie: this is buttery, tart, and lovely with whipped cream. I would not pass this by. Frozen. -New Zealand Wool Garland: so bright and retro and inexpensive. We're huge fans. -Cat Advent Calendar: tiny salmon treat for your kitty. She can't try it yet. It's November. -Cedar Balsam candle: smells much fresher and cleaner than many similar candles during the season; I usually stock up. -Harry and David Comice Pears: already ripe and my child loves them. -Rosemary Christmas Tree: lovely and fresh. I like passing my hand over the needles when I walk through the room for a lovely scent. -Fig and Olive Crisps: sweet and savory. With the Safeway nearby closing, this is the only large grocery store in the North Beach and Fisherman's Wharf area. It makes for a convenient place to pick up some groceries and snacks if you are staying in a hotel or live nearby. My experience here was similar to that of any other Trader Joe's that I have visited, which is clean and orderly. This location now has a higher level of importance because there would be a great void without it in the neighborhood. read more

Best neighborhood store if you happen to reside in North Beach. The competitors all are by far more expensive, lack quality TJ products, I worked here and the only reason I didn't give it 5 was every other person I worked with was kind, and helpful, looked out for me, and there was a supervisor who was just on my jocks real bad and ruined things as the bad apples do. I stopped by this location while in SF for a friend's baby shower. I stopped for a quick to go snack and drink (GT's Orange Peach Mango Probiotic Water is soooo good!!). I've never been to this location. Its a decent sized location with an indoor parking lot, like the Hyde St location. The shocking part: A sign over one of the cashier line reads "20 items or fewer". I just learned of TJ's having an express lane last night. I honestly thought it was an urban myth!!! I've never seen one! Of course SF would have that! LOL. But, I actually didn't need to go through it since the store was quiet and not busy. The cashier was pleasant. I didn't explore the store in it's entirety, so, I can't speak too much on the aisles and products. I would stop by again if I'm again in this area (or SF period) read more

It's no surprise TJ added 1K more SFBA stores than it's sole Danville outpost 30 years ago. Like the addictive price/volume/quality-based Costco-Hoard Syndrome, you need to pick and choose carefully. When you do find something worthy of your tastebuds, it's difficult to keep a secret due to the way we developed a smug and self-righteous Selfie-culture. Love the colorful and creative labeling, esoteric blends, variety of booze and produce specials. Cheeses and some dairy are off the beaten path as are canned and frozen goods. What's not to like? I love Trader Joe's. They have great products, awesome prices & many organic or vegetarian options available. Their staff are friendly & knowledgeable. The only downside is the small parking lot which can get a bit jammed up when people are jockeying for parking spots. This location is smaller than the other TJ stores that I visit but has almost everything that I need/want. I've discovered wonderful foods in their frozen aisle that makes daily life a bit easier. Bring your own bag for self packing on the tables outside. Their paper bags are $.25 each (San Francisco mandate) so double bagging will cost $.50. read more

I LOVE the team at our local Trader Joe's. Each team member is so friendly and helpful, but they particularly shined when we needed to place an order for flowers we were going to use for our wedding last week. While Karla is in charge of the flower orders, her whole team basically helped me place an order (generally at least 3 days in advance of the date you want to pick them up, depending on which flowers you want) for a lot of seeded eucalyptus and baby's breath. The morning of the pickup, Karla was ready for us and helped us get everything we wanted and even gave us the bucket and boxes we needed for easy transport. Now, I feel like I always see a friendly face when I stop by which has made grocery shopping an even more fun experience for me! read more

I've been to this TJ before - many moons ago during my first trip to SF. It continues to be a solid TJ spot. It's super walkable to a lot of the hotels in the area and you can pick up some room staples like alcohol, water, and snacks. I stopped in around 7pm on Friday night to grab water and snacks for my hotel room and it was perfect. The staff were super nice and I noticed there was a parking lot too, which is a plus. read more

TJ is a conservative man's grocery store, granted there are a few mixed of items that may satisfy. But their salads now are washed with some disinfectant so those are out. Their prepared dinners are 3rd rate, living here in the city with so many fresh food options, why buy 2nd rate food prepared food stuff. Plants there are nice. read more

Good selection lots of fresh vegetables unique items from the bakery and from there prepared to go food. Love Trader Joe's brands as a unique experience to try new items. We get some great hummus dip for our pretzels black and white cookies were well worth it also got some of the hard cider just as good as a name brand. I absolutely love grocery shopping at Trader Joe's. This location off of Bay Street is one of the closest to my home, but it's my second choice when deciding which to go to for my grocery shopping. This is because it seems quite cramped with the amount of foot traffic, it gets paired with the layout of the store. I've never had trouble with things being in stock here, but again, it's really crowded. I am assuming that if people were to go in the middle of the day, that wouldn't be a problem. read more

Update.....I have been meaning to do an update for a while now....... Welp, I have to take a star away because of Lor (I think that is her name). RUDE lady. Every time I had to deal with her, just very unpleasant. Her vibe is angry. She is very rough with delicate items (ice cream cones, fruits, flowers, crackers, etc), and she literally aggressively throws items on the checkout counter from the shopping basket. I find that when I get home, some of these items were damaged because of the way she handles them, please note that this does not happen with other staff. When she talks to you is very mean sounding and rude....very off-putting. It is not the kind of shopping experience that I welcome in my life. I rather wait for 20-30 minutes in line than have her at the check stand. P.S. Everyone else is super nice and super friendly, and most importantly, helpful and they make you feel welcome. :) read more

I love this TJ's! It still amazes me how these stores can be half the size of your average grocery store, and still manage to have everything. I initially came in to pick up a couple of cans of the watermelon mint tea; hands down, some of the best tea I've ever had. And because it's seasonal, I knew I needed to move fast. Fortunately, this store had plenty in stock. While I was there, I also picked up a bottle of wine, some cold pressed juices, and some snacks. Trader Joe's has the best snacks! Those Fig & Olive crisps were fantastic with the blueberry vanilla goat cheese. I also love is the store had dried peaches. There's no fruit in the world like California fruit. Fresh, dried, doesn't matter. California fruit is the best! TJ's also sells some of the prettiest and most unique flowers, and this location is no exception. I wish I was staying in San Francisco longer because I definitely would have picked up one of their beautiful little bouquets. This location sells beer, wine, and a small selection of spirits. Unfortunately they didn't have the Pinot Noir that I was looking for, but I was able to find another old favorite to take its place. Checkout took a little longer than it usually would at other supermarkets, but that's only because the cashiers add a personal touch to the checkout process. I didn't mind much. When it was my turn, I had a nice little chat with Richard, who used to live in DC (where I'm from). It was a brief but pleasant conversation and a welcome respite from the otherwise transactional nature of the grocery shopping experience. read more

This has to be the most chill TJ's in the city. Nice clean and empty. No waiting in line. Plus the security guard is vigilant.

Trader Joe's has it loyal followers and during these Covid-19 times, there is usually a waiting line to get into the store. Kudos to Trader Joe's implementing safety protocols to limit customers inside to ensure social distancing for the safety to workers and customers. I was in the area at 6:30pm on a recent Sunday. It was to my surprise that there was no line to enter this North Beach location by Fisherman's Wharf. There was plenty of parking in the street right out front. Entering at the corner, the clerk monitored for adherence to face masks rules and offered hand sanitizer as I took a disinfected basket from the stack next to her. You proceed down the ramp to the store floor and that's where carts are located. The store was fairly empty and the shelves were well stocked. After getting the items that I needed, I went to pay and there were five idle cashiers waiting for customers. After paying, you exit into the garage. You walk up the ramp to get back outside. It was a nice, pleasant overall shopping experience. It saved me about a 20 minutes wait at my local store by shopping here on this day. Hopefully, the non-waiting was not an anomaly and I will try to stop by again when I'm in the City. read more

Trader Joes is perhaps the best grocery stone chain in the bay area. What I like most is that every trip is joyful, and you end up with at least one item you have not tried before. They have fair prices (some of the lowest compared to Whole Foods, Safeway, Luckys, local bodega). A small but highly curated selection of items - typical grocery stores carry 10X SKU's - however TJ's carries mostly TJ-branded merch, mostly high quality, and healthy'ish. Their employees are part of a crew, and you will occasionally hear a bell. The theme is Hawaiian and crew members are very friendly, often smiling and eager to help. They often go out back to check when they expect the next shipment of an out of stock item or help you navigate to that very specific request you have. I dinged them one star for having addictive junk food (processed, some sub-standard ingredients, laden with sugar) right next to the healthiest cleanest grocery items (made with extra virgin olive oil, expeller pressed oils). Also, not figuring out their supply chain - they have been out of veggie sushi for a month now! However, TJ's is committed to non-gmo, so all you need to do, is read their labels and pick the items that appeal to your sensibility. This is a brand you can trust. Just read the labels and make an informed decision. Their quantity is appropriate for an individual or a couple, unlike Costco, where you find better prices but the quantities are better suited for a big family. TJ's usually has a sampling station that allows you to try one of their featured products, along with a coffee of the week, with non-dairy options for those on a lactose break. 5 star experience, 4 stars for selection and availability. If you do not shop at TJ's, you are missing out on a joyful experience. read more

Granted, time of the day has a big role but I've been to this one more than 6 times at different times and it's always manageable. Simply put, Trader Joe's brings me joy! This location in particular has always offered great customer service and has everything I need despite some folks saying this location is "small". Ask any staff member about a stocked item and they will help you find what you need/try to tell you when they expect to receive more, if out of stock. And, free parking for customers in the middle of a city like San Francisco makes my trips stress free. read more

COVID-19 Informational Review: At this location you will park as usual in the garage and go to the store entrance there to retrieve a cart that an employee stationed at the doorway will have sprayed down with disinfectant. There's also hand sanitizer available. If you're a senior or disabled, you will be allowed to use the inside entrance. Otherwise, you will roll your cart up the adjacent ramp to line up for the outside entrance on the corner. Inside, social distancing doesn't seem to be heavily enforced or observed by either customers or staff (see my Dollar Tree review for an example of enforcement), but there are markers on the floor to guide you when lining up to pay. Masks are enforced. Overall I felt safe shopping at this store due to their efforts at disinfecting the carts, providing hand sanitizer for customer use upon entry, and the enforcing of masks. read more

This is my favorite Trader Joe's in San Francisco. The location is good, they are always well stocked, lines are never too long, and the customer service is excellent.
