I usually don't shop at Trader Joe's because their prices are generally higher than the sale prices at other grocery stores closer to me. However, I had a cash back offer for a box of Mini Perfect Bars, but only at Trader Joe's. There are two Trader Joe's closer to me, and two other Trader Joe's nearby, but I chose this Trader Joe's at Long Beach Marketplace on the southeast corner of PCH and 2nd since I was in the area for a couple other reasons. Trader Joe's is the anchor store here, just on the other side of PCH from a competitor, Whole Foods Market. Both have their pros and cons with Whole Foods Market being more spacious in size with a wider selection of merchandise, but bigger doesn't necessarily mean better. Trader Joe's has more of a neighborly and cozier farmers market feel, quite the contrast from Whole Foods in spite of their similar approaches to providing high quality groceries at kind of sort of affordable prices. I had been inside Trader Joe's, including this one, before whenever I felt like browsing the merchandise here and experiencing a few minutes of a cozy, neighborhood-friendly environment. But on this last visit, one of the employees who happened to be working by the entrance took a moment to welcome me, which I hadn't remembered on any of my previous encounters. I headed to the rear of the store where they had the granola bars, but I couldn't find the box of Mini Perfect Bars I was on a mission for. I went back to the front and saw a couple of female employees talking to one another. I asked them for help, and Maggie graciously assisted me when I showed her a photo of the product I was looking for. She immediately knew where it was and even led me to the refrigerated section where I'd find it. Refrigerated? Oh yes, apparently, I had forgotten that Perfect Bars weren't your ordinary shelf stable bars; instead, they were the types of bars that needed to be refrigerated* so as to retain the best (or perhaps perfect?!) quality prior to consumption. Nevertheless, I really appreciated Maggie's level of service, and it seems the employees are happier here compared to their counterparts at other grocery stores, including, shall I say it again? Whole Foods. After grabbing a box of the Mini Perfect Bars, which would expire in just less than 6 months, I headed to the checkout lanes. All the lanes seemed pretty short, and I initially chose the stand overseen by the other female employee who was speaking with Maggie a few minutes earlier. Then, I noticed the customer's cart was full of merchandise, so I hopped on over to a checkout stand with Ethan as the cashier. The customer there had half a basket left of merchandise to be scanned, but a few seconds later, another employee, Sean, called me over to his checkout stand. Since all the checkout lines were pretty short, it was easy for me to miss the shortest line. I was impressed that Sean noticed me waiting nearby, but I suppose that Trader Joe's employees like him and Maggie are trained to exude consummate customer service, likely commensurate with the price tags I mentioned in the first paragraph. And Sean was super friendly and all, even complimenting me on the hat that I was wearing even though it's not a hat that anybody in the area would wear lol. His amicable demeanor added to the neighborly atmosphere that I had already felt from being welcomed at the entrance to requesting help from Maggie and now Sean saving me a couple of minutes while wishing me a wonderful evening! The only negative about my experience was that I almost bumped into another customer who was leaving right as I was about to leave as well. But that's on me for not paying close attention to my surroundings lol. Overall, a 5-star shopping experience at this Trader Joe's! Now I hope I can get another cash back offer that would be valid only at Trader Joe's again just to have a shopping experience that can perk up my day after such a long and grueling week of work, as was the case for me this past week. * There is a note on the box that says to store in the fridge or the freezer, but it also says "Take on the go for 1 week." Good tidbit of info to share if you're considering purchasing these Perfect Bars, even if it's not at a Trader Joe's. read more

This Trader Joe's location was fairly standard. There was nothing particularly exemplary about the employees or their customer service, which is unusual for the Trader Joe's brand. In the past, Trader Joe's employees have often been known for being fun, enthusiastic, professional, and knowledgeable. However, based on my experience at this location, several employees came across as snarky toward select customers, which felt inconsistent with the brand's traditionally welcoming culture. The store itself also lacked any distinctive design elements or unique thematic touches that made it memorable. As a result, the overall ambiance felt rather bland. Lastly, I noticed that both the food and product inventory appeared to be low. It seemed as though there was less variety than what is typically available at other Trader Joe's locations of comparable--or even smaller--size. Overall, this location met the basic expectations of a Trader Joe's, but it lacked the exceptional customer service, inviting atmosphere, and well-stocked selection that have historically set the brand apart. read more

I've been a regular customer for the past 5 years..but yesterday I was very surprised by a rude employee!! I was in front of the pet isle...trying to grab a big bag of dog food...all of a sudden someone from behind me scream: EXCUSE ME, EXCUSE ME, EXCUSE ME!!! multiple times ... I didn't have time to look back since I was halfway bending down to grab dog food... she squeeeezedd in between me to shoved dog treats on the upper shelf... so rude.... pls know that customer comes first no matter what task you are doing... I was not intrusive with your space so you should not be doing that!... if a customer is in front of the isle that you are trying to organize or fill...pls wait for a couple of seconds... it won't kill ya and definitely won't kill your timeline as well!! This is my local location. I love it because it's not as busy as the bellflower location. I notice they carry some produce that I can't find in bellflower location. So not all TJs carry the same thing. They have the best pricing from other supermarkets. Milk, bread and eggs are always affordable. Even when Walmart was charging $10 for dozen of eggs during the scarcity of getting eggs, I never paid more than $4 for a dozen. They made sure it was limited to one per customer. The sole reason why the Marketplace Long Beach center is staying afloat (IMHO). Dead businesses surround the premises of the Marketplace Long Beach. However, Trader Joe's is the anchor store which supports all the adjacent businesses. I've been here many a-time, and have enjoyed shopping here. This location has more registers than the Cerritos location. However, it does feel a bit more cramped during checkout. Also, the public restroom is located far back inside the inner workings of the building. Sorta akin to an Italian restaurant leading guests through the kitchen prior to seating. The Cerritos Trader Joe's still has my heart, but the Marketplace Long Beach Trader Joe's is a must visit, whenever I happen to frequent 2nd & PCH, or the surrounding area. read more

Parking is always hectic in their shared lot, and the aisles are hectic with shoppers, and there's always 25 workers restocking the shelves exactly where the thing is you're looking for and let's be real the whole vibe here is hectic lol but the one saving grace is the quick checkout and friendly cashiers. this is my favorite TJs to visit when i lived in LB and when i visit and need to pick up groceries! they have the friendliest team members and everything is usually in stock. this location has very high foot traffic, esp on the wknds! i needed to pick up bananas, unfortunately, they only had organic, which was fine so i picked up a bunch i also purchased the danish kringle (the BEST kringle ever!!) in the pecan flavor i loved the almond and now patiently waiting for raspberry! parking: spacious lot, may need to circle a few times if you want close parking. otherwise no issues if you park further away read more

The best reasons to go to this TJ's are roomy aisles, great flower selection, and the store isn't too cold. Doesn't feel like a walk-in freezer. Probably cuz it's Orange County parking is never an issue. Well stocked, employees are friendly and knowledgeable as usual. This is my go-to Trader Joe's, and I love coming here to get some frozen food or some of their pre-made goods, like their salads and wraps. Their flowers are also amazing and decently priced. I'm not a big fan of their meats or produce because they go bad fast or don't taste fresh. This Trader Joe's is always very crowded but has a lot of parking. If you go on a busy day like a Sunday or at primetime (evening), they may run out of popular items like eggs or rice. You love seeing the employees stocking up whenever I go in the aisles. When I started to go here, they kept rearranging the store aisles in different places. It has stayed the same ever since! Cashiers are always very friendly, and I can always spark a good conversation with them to make my day! Some good finds are their Tempura Seaweed Snacks, Shiitake Chicken, Rolled corn tortilla chips, Pea Protein Oat Milk (good source of protein), broccoli, tofu, and Teriyaki Chicken (great macros). read more

I came to Trader Joe's because I heard they have beautiful flowers for a cheap price. I usually get my flowers from Costco and Target so I was curious. I was shocked, the selection was big and beautiful. The flowers ranged from $4.99-$5.99 (I believe), and then the big, tall flower with a flower pot was $20ish (I can't remember the exact price). The flowers were all bright and colorful, and they all looked so full of life. I noticed there was an employee that was getting rid of the dead flowers. I was able to pick up some Unicorn Gypsophila. I intentionally went to get plain white baby breaths, but these caught my eye. They were so simple and so beautiful. The price is also eye catching, $4.99. Amazing. The employees were also super kind and welcoming. The same employee that was getting rid of the dead flowers also helped us with stuck shopping carts. He noticed us and helped us with them. We also brought our own bag, and the cashier bagged our groceries for us. This Trader Joe's is super clean, and everything is very well organized. I would come here again, and I may start getting my flowers at Trader Joe's! read more

Poor customer service seems to be the growing trend for this location. As someone who has lived in the area for over 5 years, it's sad to see some of the new staff have complete disregard for the customers. The past two trips to this location were terrible, cashiers blatantly choose to treat customers differently; as I'm waiting in line to check out, the cashier in front of me is having a full blown conversation with the customer ahead of me; they've already paid for their stuff but continue to talk and laugh and smile with the cashier for 3-5 additional minutes. Meanwhile, once it's my turn, the cashier is dismissive and doesn't even attempt to properly greet me or ask if I was able to find what I was looking for. No "thank you" after paying out, no "have a good day", not even eye contact or looking in the direction towards me. I'd much rather go to the bellflower location where at least the cashiers greet you and are nice enough to say bye. I go to the Ralph's across in-n-out on PCH all the time and the cashiers are extremely nice and helpful, even though it's self-checkout for the most part. Terrible customer service here. read more

We are not local to the area, but we were staying nearby, had the ability to cook so off to Trader Joe's we want. As opposed to the one near my house, this one had plenty of parking and I was not searching for 10 minutes. The aisles were wide and I could easily get my cart around. All employees are Covid compliant and you will feel safe there. The customer service is great here. They know where everything is and will help you with any questions. Check out does not take forever and they have people to help you to your car if needed. Bring your own bags if you can. The selection at this Trader Joe's is wonderful. They have it all. Whatever you see at your other Trader Joe's they will have here. The frozen items are all so great and the fresh produce is super. Have a great time. read more

I am so upset about the treatment my Father received by Management at Trader Joe's today. (3/28/23 at around 3:52 pm) It is my Mother's birthday today and we stopped by Trader's to purchase yellow tail fish as the main course for my Mom's Birthday Celebration. All of a sudden, at the cash register, the Cashier called over the Manager about our purchase. Instead of letting my Father purchase the yellowtail, this quick stop took a very harsh, offensive, and harassing turn. We wanted to purchase 40 or so pieces since we are having a Family gathering celebrating my Mom's Birthday. We were suddenly informed that we would not be able to purchase the entirety of the yellowtail. The Manager alluded to a limit on the quantity of the yellowtail one can purchase. However, this was the first we were hearing of a limit and there is no signage posted whatsoever. Then the the Manager had the gall to say "maybe it's for resale." I was offended about this comment the Manager said to my Father. We are Filipino and a Family gathering for us consists of 30 or so people. My Mother is much loved and this is the first chance we've had to celebrate due to covid. Why would the Manager prevent us from buying enough for our party? Why would he accuse us of reselling the fish? Why were we treated like criminals when all we wanted to do was buy the fish for the party? It's not like we were stealing it. yet that's how they treated us. We have been loyal customers of TJ's for decades and this is how we are treated by your Management? This is appalling and actions must be taken, immediately to reprimand such behavior by your Management team. My Father is elderly and with the treatment he received his blood pressure was elevated for the rest of the day and he was unable to celebrate as he had planned because he was so upset and not feeling well. I am in the Medical field, and I continued to monitor his elevated blood pressure for the rest of the day. We would like an explanation as to why this incident occurred. Why we received such abussive, dismissive, and unprofessional treatment, not to mention feeling like we have been racially profiled. We would like TJ to resolve this issue immediately, reprimand the unprofessional treatment we received, and strive to make us happy customers again. read more

I hadn't been to a Trader Joe's since February and things are a little different now. I arrived 15 minutes before they opened and there was already a line to get in. Everyone stood 6 feet apart and once the store opened we were let in one at a time and handed a freshly sanitized cart from an employee upon entry. They only let in a certain number of customers at a time to prevent over-crowding. All the employees were wearing masks and just as friendly as I remember. I used to find grocery shopping therapeutic, but during COVID it has been more stressful than anything, except this trip. I think I'll exclusively be shopping at Trader Joe's. read more

Parking looks crazy but I always find a spot without having to circle more than once. That said, no matter when I arrive it's always a madhouse inside. Just once I'd love to be able to puruse an aisle without it being 2 deep with shoppers. I know I'm missing out on some new things by the crowds. Staff is always helpful, produce is fresh, and don't forget to check out the houseplants outside (great pricing and healthy). If you haven't tried the garlic spread (toom) it's highly recommended. A lot of new staff here today that have brought the customer service completely down. It looks like high-schoolers are running the place, which would be fine, if they weren't behaving like they were running the halls of a high school. A couple were chasing each other down and getting in the way of customers, and the cashier was so zoned out she kept repeating things and didn't listen to the request I made about bagging, just on total robot auto-pilot. I prefer the location on Bellflower. They behave professionally and know how to interact in conversation with customers. I've always had positive interactions with those employees. I recommend driving the few extra miles to the Bellflower location for a more positive experience. read more
