Been coming over here since I was a teenager and a lot has changed since then. They have remodeled the market recently and even expanded their hot food counter to offer pizza and wings to compete with Little Caesars and Wing Stop next door. I've seen cashier Lily since I first started coming here as a kid and she still is working to this very day; I had to take away a few stars for the fact they've become notorious in my eyes for prioritizing selling their expired goods (or goods that are close to expiring). I, myself, have gotten sick several times eating their seafood and caught them in the act when I asked the meat manager for a sample of their imitation crab meat before buying...he avoided the crab meat already in the counter and, instead, opted to go to the stock he had in the freezer and proceeded to give whatever I needed from the stock he pulled out from the freezer. I also came here and returned several out of date items from the dairy and got my money back without a hassle, but the fact this store is selling expired goods is a recipe for a PR disaster. I only go here for the convenience of being a five minute walk away from my mom's house when I come by for a visit, as her, herself, refuse to buy meat from Savers after experiencing a moment where several other customers cornered the meat man for selling bad food. You can make a lot of bread from little flour but they just want to take advantage of people here and keep upping the price. I get it, everything has gone up but the pan dulce is now 3 for $5!!!!!!! They're out of their mind! Save yourself some time and money and go straight to Northgate or El Super instead. read more

I had a very disappointing experience at the Big Saver Foods on Willow Street in Long Beach. On 3-3-26 I went in to make a payment via MoneyGram, but the night manager refused to help. The MoneyGram station closes at 7 p.m., but it was still only 6:20 when he said they were closed. All communication about my concerns was relayed through a security guard; the manager never spoke to me directly. He claimed he didn't know how to process the payment and had no authority. I found this extremely unprofessional, and I hope the owner addresses this issue seriously. read more

Big saver has it all. Groceries to fresh food to snacks, to bakery items, to liquor. I haven't shopped here for groceries but it's great for some snacks or a spot to pick up a lunch. The deli I guess you'd call it has a lot of selection. I've gotten the empanadas, fried chicken, rotisserie chicken, and chicharrones, and assorted bakery sweets. All are delicious. read more

Good store and good prices! I usually come here to buy items then going to the big local albertons/ralph chain stores. I got some good short ribs here and the quality was way better than the northgate which gives you ripped up meat. Parking is plenty and they share a lot with wing-stop, a donut place, little caesar pizza. The inside was super clean and spotless. I was very surprised. They must of did some remodeling because it looks super nice inside. BBQ charcoal is also cheaper here than the big grocery chain stores. read more

I am a grown adult that carries a backpack because I ride a motorcycle and if I want to carry anything with me, I need my bag. Went to Big Saver for the last time today. Security guard pointed to my backpack, tucked into the card with my helmet, and pointed to the door. Me: I have to leave my belongings at the door? Him: Yes. Me: And you'll watch it carefully or Big Saver isn't liable for lost items that could get lost due to your store policy? Is it posted somewhere? He pointed again to the door and I didn't see the sign (it may be there, but I didn't see it). So I left, as I'm not a thief and as this policy specifically targets the young and men. (There's a point, don't freak out.) I called and spoke to a manager. Me: So, you enforce an ageist and sexist policy, right? Him: Yes..... I mean. What is your problem? Me: If I was a woman, carrying a big purse, in no world would I be required to leave my purse at the front. But as a man, since it's not a purse, I'm required to leave my personal belongings at the front and Big Saver assumes no liability if my property is stolen, despite the policy being Big Saver's, right? Seems a bit unfair. Him: I'm sorry for your frustration. Me: It's not frustration. It's discrimination. Look, I don't want anyone to have to leave their personal property at the front of a store for a security guard to not watch it and the company not be liable. And that's the point. If you have a theft problem, hire more security, get better cameras. But assuming all young folks and any man carry a bag is a potential thief while not enforcing the "no bags" rule for everyone else is a bit skewed. There's plenty of better grocers in Long Beach. Tried to buy a custom cake but wasn't able to get in contact with the baker. My family and I tried 3 times to at least try to order the cake and every time we were met with the other people working at the bakery saying that the cake baker was not there or they told us to come back the next day. Today, at first they told us that she went to go buy fruit, then they said that she was not going to be available the whole week. Sucks because this was the closest grocery store near us and we don't feel good coming back for groceries. read more

Just because the Big Saver on Artesia and Orange has the lowest priced strawberries in the town, I give them a 5. I got one 16 oz pkg for 0.99 cents today. I have not found cheaper strawberries, that are such good quality, with nice red color, plump beauty, for that price. read more

I wish I can like this store, I really do. I grew up shopping here, witnessed the employees' protests back when it was still Ralph's, but for Christ's sake, it's so depressing to go here. The employees are nice, but I can't tell you how many perverts have gawked and leered; how many have asked for money even after giving them some; how there's a loop in the store's playlist that alternates between Spanish and English (thinking you wouldn't notice). In addition to that, the aisles are so cramped I see some big fellas crash into things and just leave it there for the employees to clean up (so rude, I know). The bakery treats are dry and stale. The items are decently priced. The parking lot is a mess - so many people friggin PARK THEIR CARTS in the spaces that it makes me wonder if they're lazy or stupid. Plus, it's West side Long Beach so if you steal a parking space from a person you better be expecting a fight/confrontation. Sorry BigSaver's. I'd rather go to Food4Less. read more

Went in for a money order which usually takes about 5 minutes maximum 10 because person is usually at one of the registers but once they get notified they close that lane after last customer but not this time because Salvador cortez which i think is also the manager decided he was gona ignore the 5th notice from employees telling him myself and others were standing there well i waited more than 30 minutes for him to snap out of his staring back at us and finally got helped not a sorry for your waiting just what do you need and done i walked out of there very annoyed hope to never have to deal with that guy again read more

I would really like to like this place more. The up side is some of the produce, They have good sales on meats and it is close by. The down side; the parking lot is a bit of a nightmare. The crazy drivers, those begging for money, the children running around. It could be quaint " barrio " but instead it seems trashy. Sad because there are 3 worthy businesses in this shopping center. This is the closest grocery store to my house and when I first moved to the area, I'd buy more meats there. However, after having bought chicken that was bad three times, which smelled bad and was probably expired, I stopped buying meats there. One of the times that I bought their expired chicken was when I was pregnant and I can't imagine how bad of a situation that would have been if I had eaten it. These 3 times happened in 2015 and in early 2016, before the store was under new management. I am hoping that they improve the quality of their meats so I don't have to drive further to do my grocery shopping and provide business to my local grocery store. Also, their fruit tends to looks old and many times have dead flies lying within the fruit. I do love their new and improved bakery with sweet breads which are warm and delicious. read more

I have been to this grocery store many times, it's previously been multiple different grocery chains in the past. This Big Saver has OK service, but nothing amazing. The aisles for placement of products are poorly laid out because they are so close to each other. If someone is using a cart, there is not enough space to move around. Upon entrance you are greeted with a cluster of a gate and sale items, which looks visually unappealing. There aren't too many employees walking around to help guide you for items you may be looking for. There are usually employees in the produce or meat section, but if you ask them something, most of them don't speak english! The visual aids on the aisles are really small and the text is hard to read from a distance. Items are neatly placed and looks to be maintained really. Checkout counter is fairly decent for speed and accuracy. Overall an OK grocery store with nothing amazing to offer. read more
