Employees are awesome! Great feeling to be there. They never act "put-out" if you ask them a question or where to find things. Some other grocery store employees won't even make eye contact with you so you won't ask them anything. They do just the opposite here. Everyone is great. Unique offerings each visit. It was Sunday morning and I was was staying with my daughter Katie, her husband Thatcher and my grandson Jude for the weekend in Dayton. After the very cold weather and the Friday afternoon ice and snow storm we needed to get out of the house. I joined my daughter and grandson on an adventure. I love this location as the store is in an enclosed mall. It was warm inside and Jude could walk around and explore for a while before entering TJ's. I really like walking around at TJ's. It is such a fun Store. Plenty of carts were available but some customers seemed unwilling to slow down in getting one or let a mother put an almost 15 month old baby in one. We headed to the back of the store to get free samples of cheese that my grandson loved. Katie looked around for some items that she was low on in the kitchen at home. They had a lot of items with sales tags in the store. She found a couple of good bargains. I wish they had the free fruit for children at TJ's like you find at the Kroger's stores and Fresh Thyme. We were ready to leave after about 15 minutes. At the checkout lanes they had the great greeting cards for $0.99 and one of those TJ's candy displays with Birthday Cake chocolate bars for $1.49. It was so tempting. It was quick to checkout even though the store was fairly busy as my daughter said they are on Sunday mornings. The cashier was very friendly. He smiled and interacted with Jude. I've been here multiple times (20+ at least) and have never had one complaint it's one of my fav places to grab groceries that I can't find at the bigger grocery stores or if I want a quick grocery trip. My son stays entertained looking for the cow plush so he can get his free lollipop and trying the samples lol so it all works out! Great selection and my family loves so many Trader Joe's items that I shop here at least once a week. I have to be careful with expiration dates on perishables though. Produce is not nearly as fresh as other grocery stores. Also employees can be VERY moody. There is one woman I simply avoid because of the glare and unfriendly, monosyllabic reply she gives when I ask a question. They can be sarcastic as well. Recently asked an employee if they were out of an item and he said "well off the top of my head I can't remember inventory for all 5000 items but I will check..." There is no need to be snarky to customers, especially those who spend thousands of dollars a year in your store. read more

We used to go to Trader Joe's and then across the street to the Kroger to complete our shopping trip. Nowadays we just hit TJ and head home, we've figured out how to get everything from one place and only occasionally do we have to run out to the regular grocery store. TJ's has a lot of good, different stuff, a lot of which you can get organic which is nice. They have pretty much everything we need - food, cleaning supplies, bathroom soaps, wine, beer etc. Everyone who works there seems pretty happy about it, and they're always very helpful and willing to make suggestions if you have questions. The only issues we've ever had are the following: 1. Sometimes you'll buy produce and a couple of days later it's moldy or on its way out - same goes for some baked goods. TJ's needs to keep a bit closer of any eye out for these things. 2. They often rotate items in and out with little or no notice, so one day your favorite toothpaste, pasta or sauce is there, and the next it's gone. Sometimes they bring them back, sometimes not. Other than that it seems a pretty solid place, although we'd like to see them bring more of their produce in from local folks rather than Peru, China and Mexico (unless it's some groovy unusual import item in which case, cool). read more

Oh, how I do love a trip to Trader Joe's. This would be my weekly grocery destination if I didn't live 20 minutes away (Kroger is right down the street, yo)! I love that I can get in and out of there in 30 minutes or less and have most of my shopping complete. The downside is that I usually make a second stop on the way home to purchase toiletries and/or bread and fresh vegetables. TJ's is a little lacking in the produce isle. But, I love their selection of most everything else...going there actually puts me in a good mood, as opposed to, say, Super Wal-Mart, which makes me near-suicidal. read more

Trader Joes has become part of our weekly shopping destination. Al tough we still buy the majority of our groceries at other stores, over time we have begun to purchase more items at Trader Joes. This is a nice Trader Joe's not the biggest i've been too,but nice. With that said,it's great to have one here in Dayton. There is alot of vegan and vegetarian friendly food and the people that work their actually seem to enjoy their jobs. This was our first time and we were there with out of town guests that had given us a gift certificate. They had a wine tasting going on and the gentleman that was running it was so rude! We all six were stunned. Needless to say we picked up one item and left. I'm not sure when we will go back or if we will give the gift card to someone else to use. This place is a typical niche store for an organic/green demographic. It's packed with hipsters so be prepared to see some interesting people. Nothing I saw here was unobtainable elsewhere, they just stock more of it. Overall I wasn't very impressed and more so a bit disappointed. read more

My long experience with the company is not good. - Many dry foods are stale, though their expiration date is still far in the future. - The frozen fish is apparently inflated with fluids that allow the volume to decrease while cooking. - The wines are never good values, considering the poor quality. - The company has a practice of eliminating loss leaders fairly quickly, even if the product has some good to great quality. Two examples are eliminated cashew butter and two or three variants of the salt scrubs. read more

I've been shopping at this location ever since it opens in our neighborhood. If you are a "clean" eater, this is the place. Not only they guarantee you can read the ingredients from each package, they also challenge you to find a package that you can't read the ingredients. That just shows you the type of products Trader Joe's carries. They also want the customers to try new things. So if there is anything you purchase with "Trader Joe's" name on it that you don't like, just bring it back for refund or exchange with something else! No question ask!!! I've tried many items, such as frozen dinner, juice, cookies.... etc. I just bring the item back (the frozen dinner, I just bring the outside package) to the store for refund/exchange with something else. They also have all different type of IPA and wine. If you have not visited here, you have to give it a try! Most of the products are cheaper than other chain stores..... and none of them would let you return an open product for refund!!! So why not to give it a try?!! read more

Hollygolightly, went to Tiffany's when she had the mean reds, which are worse than the blues. I go to Trader Joes. It's a throw back from the 60's California style, which is where it originated and have most stores. You can never have a bad day once you step inside Trader Joes. I love the atmosphere, the people (staff & shoppers), and the music. It's like no other grocery store. I first encountered it when I lived in Los Angeles, now I live in Dayton, OH and I'm so glad this city has a Trader Joes. just like my former trader joe's only in ohio and like 20 times less crowded. staff was helpful per usual. if you haven't been to tj it's worth checking out for no other reason than their high quality (and reasonably priced) prepared goods. i make the extra 7 minute drive out here for items such as their soups, gyoza potstickers, taquitos, frozen vegetable mixes, etc. perfect choices to heat up after a long day if you don't feel like cooking. pro tip: tj has a good wine selection with incredible value. since the bottles are reasonably priced, go ahead and buy a bunch of bottles because there are some serious gems hidden among them. for example - the sicilia nero d'avola for under $10. it was consistently sold out at my previous tj for good reason. it quickly became my house red after discovery. read more

I haven't been here in a while so I decided to check it out again. They have a lot of fun processed food choices. The produce is definitely not local but they do a decent job of giving us the basics. They have some organic meats but they are packaged, no meat counter that I saw. The bakery items are all pre-packaged as well, but they have some fun things. They have a lot of gluten free choices. The one thing I don't like about Trader Joe's is that they private label everything and don't tell you where the food is coming from. I like to know where my food comes from and who is producing it. This is definitely a fun store and I really liked it before it became so commercialized and expanded. They are owned by a billionaire family in Germany, the same family that owns Aldi. Not local for sure. I think they are doing a decent job and it appeals to younger crowds. I like the bagged nuts and trail mixes as well as some of the cookies. They have good frozen dinners if you eat those sort of things. The sodium counts are still so high but if you need a quick frozen dinner, I love the vindaloo chicken. Their frozen veges are great too. This is not my weekly/daily grocery store but I have great memories of shopping here and the staff always makes me smile. read more

I do love this store for a few reasons. They do have the best selection of nuts and trail mixes. I love their cheeses too. My favorite of all is the frozen gyoza, which is pot stickers. Very good price and far better than any I have ever bought anywhere else. I also buy frozen pizza dough here because it is difficult to find anywhere else. I even like the little mints in tin cans right by the check out. Fantastic price. The candy selection is awesome too. Yep I do love this store. Trader Joe's is very fun for the whole family to go to. For the (older) kids, there is a new thing called "Stroopy the Cow" and they have to find it in order to get a delicious, organic lollipop. For everyone else (and the kids) you benefit from delicious, relatively healthy foods and great customer service. i do love trader joes. being from sf i remember when they first started. I am now in dayton and I love that trader joes has come to town. however, some of the staff is WAY lacking. I have never written a review but today i was soo pissed off i had to. today i bought (4) bottles of wine. The idiot checking me out said (booze train). Really, I am a 52 female with 4 bottles of wine. This has happened before . I have a good sence of humor but there are a few "dumb asses" that work there.
