This Trader Joe's gets the Kettering-Oakwood crowd; you know, the types who look for dolmades, pumpkin cheesecake, and pomegranate seeds. The people who don't call it "Trader Joe's", but "T.J.'s". Personally, I go there to pick up just a few things. I buy their spray cleaner, their frozen gnocchi, and I get their little, chocolate pumpkin thingamajigs around Halloween. Speaking of Halloween, for some reason the employees are the same kind of folk you would see working at a Starbuck's or a used book store. They are practically interchangeable. read more

I've shopped here thrice & have really enjoyed browsing through all their unusual offerings. I especially look for their hot & sweet jalapeños - so good on sandwiches. Bought their pumpkin cheesecake for $7.99 which is a bargain price. The employees are always friendly & helpful and checkout lines are short. I passed through Trader Joe's looking for something to have for dinner and while they have lots and lots of stuff for taking home and cooking or baking or microwaving, there's not much ready to eat. It's your typical Trader Joe's. Staff is always excellent and very friendly. Decent wine selection with good prices. You'll find a selection of items you won't find at Walmart or Krogers. Prices on some items are a little on the high side. Overall nice place to shop. read more

I love everything about Trader Joe's! I can get carried away when buying things here because all of their products are fantastic. I was so happy to find a Trader Joe's in the Dayton area because it reminded me of home. Trader Joe's is all over California and I would always shop there! Aside from this, they have quality products that will not disappoint you. You will most likely come out of Trader Joe's with items that were not on your shopping list! They have seasonal items located at the front of the store and the employees are always helpful if you are looking for something. Side note: The manager was so kind enough to donate paper bags and food to my classroom as we will be studying about holidays around the world in December. My students will be so excited! I love that Trader Joe's wants to give back to the community! It makes me want to shop there even more! read more

This is a great Trader Joe's, right here in Dayton! The staff are always friendly and welcoming. Even during their busy holidays...they work hard to give u a great experience. Check-out is super quick, compared to other grocery stores in the area. The produce is beautiful...it's fresh & it lasts longer than produce that I've gotten elsewhere. They often have limited time, seasonal produce at great prices. (Ex: these heirloom, navel oranges at $3.99 for a large bag). Overall, as a whole...prices are reasonable. I tend to stick with fresh produce, meat, and dairy which stretches my budget more than going the convenience route. But, I also like to treat myself to some of their frozen food...it's helpful in a pinch when I'm low on groceries or super exhausted. read more

I'm so happy that there's a TJs here in Dayton that isn't terribly far from where we live. The few times I've gotten to visit the people have been friendly and helpful. In fact, one time I managed to forget my purse in the car (thanks, mom brain) and I didn't really until I got to the register. Very embarrassed, I asked if my groceries could be kept at the front while I grabbed my one year old, ran to the car and then came back. The guy working the register didn't seem at all put off. When I'd returned, he'd already rung up and bagged my order. So sweet! This mom appreciates help like that when I drop the ball! TJs carries products I have trouble finding else where or simply better prices on the products I want. I keep my kitchen stocked with their sunbutter and cashew butter (great price and no sugar added!), coconut aminos (soy sauce replacement, again, for a good price) and plantain chips (fried in sunflower oil!). Aside from the healthy choices I regularly buy are plenty of delicious treats for special occasions. My favorite is probably the Cookie Butter Dark Chocolate Bar or the dark chocolate PB Cups. But they also always have some exciting seasonal choices! For the fall they have an amazing salsa that I look for every year. As well as sugary things I have yet to try - ginger ice cream drumsticks and Pumpkin O Cereal?!? Yum! My only "complaint" - they have a fruit stand so kids can have a free banana/orange/apple while parents shop. But 60% of the times I visit, it's empty! :( read more

I love shopping here. Price points are great, and items can be unique. My only gripe is they don't always have what you bought last time and loved. But it usually isn't too hard to find something else to take it's place. Wine is great...just pass the $2 buck Chuck and go for some better bottles priced lower than other local retailers. And by all means check out the cheese...everyone likes to cut cheese when they share wine. Yesterday they had Bourbon cakes for $40. They were huge in a wooden crate. Someone bumped one, the lid came off and the cake hit the ground. CLUNK. That sucker weighed a ton. Glad it didn't land on their foot...or my foot. I just kept walking. Glad it wasn't a martini cake or I would have to buy one and my pocket book would be lighter. read more

I've shopped here for many years now. Prices are often the same or cheaper than competing grocery stores and with better quality ingredients. All Trader Joe's food is made without synthetic ingredients. E.g. Compare a leading national brand tuna can with Trader Joe's tuna. Not only is it less expensive, but also has no additives and fillers, such as soybean oil and preservatives. 95% of the employees are usually very friendly, with some exceptionally nice people. The small footprint size of the store makes getting in and out easy, except for the high volume times. Buy the reusable bags and be eligible for $25 monthly gift card drawings. A nice bonus are the daily food and coffee samples. The also sell bouquets of flowers, cards, kitchen supplies, pet supplies, and toiletries. Wine tastings: New hours, don't remember them offhand. Overall, it is one of my favorite stores to shop. I feel at ease here and usually have a good chat with an employee. read more

Excellent place to grocery shop! It was my first time here and I got a few things I couldn't have found anywhere else. The corn salsa was very good: a little sweet tang, with a powerful but not overpowerful sense of spice. The Chimichurri Sirloin Steak was a fine piece of meat. I grilled up the four pieces totalling 1.7 lbs for 2 mins on both sides. The result was a medium-rare masterpiece. It was the best piece of steak I'd had in a long while. Perfectly tender and moist, every single bite of it, and the marinade was delicious too. Will definitely go back for more research in the meat department. read more

My fiance and I travel to Dayton once or twice a year to visit his parents. The thing I look forward to the most while in Dayton is going to Trader Joe's. It's like an extra Christmas present. This location is fairly small, but they have a wide variety of products you can't find at supermarkets in Denver (boo!). Since we drive to Dayton, I can only buy stuff that is shelf stable, so I end up stocking up on rice, cookies, crackers, honey etc. I wish I could try all those tasty looking frozen items. Cheap wine? They have it. Frozen cilatro? Yup. Orangina? You betcha. An aisle of cookies and chocolate covered everything? I mean who DOESN'T have that stuff? Denver. I have contemplated moving to Dayton many a time just for Trader Joe's. This will be MY location until Trader Joe's wises up and realizes they are missing out on MILLIONS of dollars worth of business in Colorado (*WINK WINK HINT HINT*). read more

Its not a successful weekend if the boy and I don't make at least one trip to Trader Joe's. Their fruit and veg selection is small but chock full of fresh and delish foods and their nut section lets me make my own granola and save on all the sugar in the commercial versions whilst saving money too. I can find items here (like kefir) that I can't find at my local grocery or that are twice as much there. I especially like their greek yoghurt that's made with whole milk instead of the usual non-fat or low-fat options. Their meat selection is also impressive. A nice variety of organic and grass-fed at prices that aren't too much higher than the 'regular' stuff. And do I even have to mention the wine section? Two Buck Chuck (even though it comes to $3 something after state taxes) is definitely a deal and great for an everyday wine. Unfortunately, this location is a bit small and I'm often forced to run next door to the Kroger to pick up the things that Trader Joe's didn't have. read more

I appreciate having a Trader Joe's in my hometown, especially since I visit friends and hang with the family. And it's not like I see natural or organic food such as edamame hummus, un-sulfured dried mango, or frozen yogurt at other local groceries. They sell organic foods at affordable prices, which conveniently allows me to prepare natural dishes. It's almost impossible not to load-up on their organic flash frozen greens, seafood, chicken, and ready dishes. Grocery shopping doesn't have to be painful or boring, you all. Their staff gives memorable customer service, which feels lovely during any grocery shopping trip. Their selections include foods that originate from almost every part of the globe, too. Take a trip. Trader Joe's is one of my favorites! I used to shop here all the time when I lived in San Diego --- when we were in Nashville they decided to open a store about 45 minutes from my house the last year I was there, but I still went all the time. I'm here about once a week. LOVE the quality and prices. The store in Kettering is just as great as any of them -- although a little small compared to what I am used to. They really pack to products in this place! Things to try if you are new to TJ's: Frozen: Goyoza (known as dumplings or pot stickers to most) - Thai Shrimp! Frozen: Vegetable Birds Nests Frozen: Spinach Dip Frozen: Asparagus Risotto -- done in 5 minutes and it's about as awesome as the stuff that takes me an hour! Cheese: they have a GREAT assortment and generally have samples on Saturdays. If you like a soft cheese try the Port de Sault, it's amazing. Spinach Kale Dip: This was my latest adventure and it's awesome - with their small pita it's a great FAST appetizer. Their jellybeans are great -- think JellyBelly with a little better ingredients and fun flavors like Blueberry & Pomegranate. I love almost all of their chocolate treats -- dark chocolate caramels are one of my favorites. BEER: If you like beer, try some of theirs, it's an eclectic mix and if you take the time to read the labels you will find some interesting combos. I live the Bavarian wheat -- according to the label it has tastes of bubble gum and banana. :) The employees here are always helpful and must eat everything here because they always have a great recommendation for you. :) read more

I mean maybe it's me. Maybe its the location. Maybe it's I was there on a Saturday afternoon... But I just don't get it.... I mean sure Trader Joe's is a nice store, but there is absolutely nothing special about this place that I can put my finger on. Yes they're wine selection is nice. There's the extra star. But it's really nothing I couldn't get at Jungle Jim's or Kroger really. And it's false advertising to call it 2 buck Chuck when its well over 3 Bucks kthanx! But this location is so tiny, and small, and I literally had to get out of there without buying anything as I just got way too claustrophobic. OH! And one of the sales girls was so incredibly rude! I was checking out the breads as I was looking to make or buy a spinach dip and didn't see any Hawaiian bread, so I asked the girl if they had any and she looked dead on at me and very snarkily said "No. we don't have any Hawaiian bread nor have ever carried it, nor will we ever." Well! Fine! But a good handful of the employees were just really stand offish that day. Maybe it was the weather, I don't know, but that was only my second time in a TJ's and honestly... Oh how I wish I had a Trader Joe's in Houston!! I think the happiest people on earth are recruited to work here...everyone is eager to help, but not in a pushy sort of way. Everything is well organized and the food is fresh and tasty. The hummus selection is top notch and their gala apples are perfectly sweet and crunchy!! Trader Joe's is where it's at! I can't believe having lived near Trader Joe's in D.C., I didn't discover it till just recently. They have EVERYTHING! Seriously. You need to see it for yourself. A few of my personal favorites: Edamame Hummus, Coconut Oil Spray, Fig Butter, Honey Roasted Sliced Almonds, Japanese Style Fried Rice (frozen), and Garlic Fries (frozen). The prices at Trader Joe's are UNBEATABLE. They do have fresh produce, but no deli counter, meat department, or bakery, like at DLM. The majority of the items in the store are Trader Joe's brand. I have tried many different items from here and they have all been amazing, while still being mostly healthy! Win-win!! The staff is always friendly, and they play some rockin' music in the store. :) They have a no-hassle return policy; returning an item with a too close Best By use date was no sweat. My friend goes here all the time for the little groceries he gets and he loves it. I really like the look of this place and have tried some of the food he gets and its pretty good, the price was pretty fair. they have some very unique things that you won't find other than here which is awesome. the checkout person was nice as well as the workers around the store, its very neat inside and things are in order and in the place where they are suppose to be. read more

I feel so lucky that we have a Trader Joe's in my town. This store is smaller than some of the others but what it lacks in size it makes up for in hospitality. You will not find a more happy or helpful group of people than the employees here. The food and quality are amazing and if there is something wrong with a product, they process the return with no issues. The parking is sometimes a bit full, but overall not bad. The store is always clean and the selection is awesome. There are always new things to try, the one sad part is that sometimes means that you'll find something you love only to see it leave the shelves. read more

If you like to eat healthful food without going bankrupt, this is the place to be. Trader Joe's is great for stocking up on your staples such as quinoa, whole wheat pasta, julienne cut sun-dried tomatoes in olive oil, EVOO, pizza dough, nuts and more nuts and nut butters. The produce section has gotten a lot better too in the past couple of years. read more

It's fun to check up on all the products that are unavailable in regular grocery stores and they have lots of natural and organic products so I feel good about myself even though I know I'm filling up the cart more than usual. This is one of my favorite grocery stores! I always pick up something different to try. This week I picked up the Dark Roast coffee pictured below. It is absolutely delicious! I also love their seasonings (especially the Everything Bagel), cereal (great prices on Kashi!), canned goods ($0.79 garbanzo beans!), salsa, nuts (coconut cashews), jam (Fig Butter), bread/baked goods (inside out carrot cake), oil (coconut oil spray!), and eggs ($0.89 per 12 Ct carton!). When I moved to Dayton from Boston, I was excited to hear there was a TJs. I looked forward to being able to get my favorites, to having that sense of familiarity that is comforting when you move to a new place. Unfortunately, I was fairly disappointed. This store is tiny and cramped--shopping takes me twice as long as it should, getting around other shoppers. The bakery items were not fresh; twice I have gotten bread that was hard as a rock a day later. I've never bought produce at TJs because the overpackaging bothers me, so no difference here. One of my little indulgences is picking up a cheap bouquet whenever I'm at TJs to brighten my apartment; maybe it's because I go at the end of the night, but the flowers look far worse than what I can get at Meijer. But what really bothers me about this Trader Joes is the price difference. On my first trip, as I went up and down the aisles grabbing my favorite frozen pizzas and boxed risottos, I felt like things were more expensive, but I wasn't sure--who remembers exactly what they pay for a pizza? It wasn't until I got to the wine section. Charles Shaw wine for $3.69 a bottle? That is ludicrous. I asked my cashier, and he said it was because of Ohio's alcohol tax. BS, Massachusetts's is ridiculous (people drive to New Hampshire to get around it), and their "Two Buck Chuck" actually falls in the two-buck range. I thought things were supposed to be cheaper living in the midwest; I guess when it comes to passably-drinkable cheap wines, that isn't the case. read more

Being from Massachusetts, Trader Joe's is the place to go for a number of great items that you can not get at your standard grocery store. The variety of foods are great. The best items are the following: Maple and Pecan Granola Tikki Masala Indian frozen dinner Chocolate covered peanut butter pretzels Almond Butter I could go on and on... However, there are some items to avoid: Their produce... never looks good and overpriced. The pasta sauces... yes all of them, vodka, regular, etc.. Organic Trader Joe Chocolate bars Overall, I highly recommend Trader Joe's. The staff is fantastic and are always helpful and welcoming. Definitely a winner here. read more

I typically visit the Trader Joe's in Cincinnati, but have been coming to this one because it is located conveniently on my way home from work. I love that the parking is much better here. I don't have to stalk someone walking to their car just to get a spot. Although it's a smaller store in comparison to other groceries, it is still spacious enough to not feel cluttered with all of the other shoppers. It is also not overwhelmingly busy, which means the check out lines are thankfully not too long. Their selection is also unique and specialized where you won't find many of their items at other stores. Once you check out, the cashiers are always really friendly. They make conversation and ensure you found everything you came in for. The only con I have with the store is there seems to be fewer employees walking the floor and making sure we do not need help. At most other Trader Joe's, there are employees walking simply for this reason. Most of the ones I see on the floor here are either stocking or running back and forth from the back to the front. Having more on the floor will keep us from waiting until the cashier asks if we found everything ok or having to locate a helper on our own. It slightly takes away from that great customer experience I feel at other Trader Joe's locations. read more

I have always been pleased with the staff, service, and food at Trader Joe's. Only once I had a problem...I opened some chips and they were stale...I couldn't find the receipt, they exchanged them no questions asked. Another time, I needed wine advice and they have some very knowledge wine associates. They offer wine tastings. Everytime we have tried something from the sample station we have loved it and purchased it. They pack a lot into the small location. read more
