Never in my life have I felt passionate about a grocery store (not even Wegmans... sorry WNY-ers). That is, until I stumbled into Trader Joe's for the first time! I only go every few weeks or so since this is the only Buffalo area location and it's about 20 minutes away from me. But, boy, is it worth my while every time I go in! Their assortment of flowers and plants is beautiful. The workers are so kind and helpful. And I really love the system they have in place regarding their products. A lot of products here are seasonal and fleeting, they don't stay longer than a few months. But I really like this! Not only do you have something to look forward to for the next season, but you're also reminded to enjoy the little things while they last. What they lack in pantry staples they make up for in produce and easy meals found in the freezer aisles. I definitely had a pre mindset misconception about Trader Joe's - that it was an overpriced health food grocery store. That definitely isn't the case, and I am so glad I did a walk through the entire store the last time I shopped here. I would definitely stay away from their prepackaged foods, I bought a veggie hummus wrap for $4.99 and it was bread, lettuce mix (I'm sure from a bag) and hummus. I could have done 10x better had I bought the ingredients myself. I did end up getting a basil pesto chicken wrap that was SO so so good for $4.99. I learned, don't go in hungry, that's when you buy the prepackaged goods that aren't always the best for you. During my walk through the store, I walked down the freezer section which did not disappoint. I ended up getting bags of stir fry quinoa mixes, frozen spiralized carrots and zucchini - things that I've been buying fresh from Wegmans, then when they go bad in a few days, regret buying. I was super excited to find mini somoas in the freezer aisle as well, I took them to work and they were a hit! One thing from Trader Joe's that have been my go to now that I have a personal trainer, and have a meal plan to go off from - is the ONE Protein Bars. Trader Joe's has been the only place I can find them at low cost other than Amazon, and I am not a Amazon fan so Trader Joe's it is. Their Maple Glazed Donut flavor is my favorite, and the shelf is always stocked. Their meat and cheese sections fell short for me, which is fine considering I'm weeding these things out of my diet. The produce section was bright, colorful, and everything looked fresh. I wish some of the bananas were more ripe when I came in, I had to buy elsewhere for those. It's the first time I've been to this location and I have to say it was quite busy. I found it difficult to move around this large store due to all the staff working in the isles and all the customers milling about. Just arrived at a bad time i guess. Lot's to look at and very interesting products to choose from. The staff I had interacted with were super friendly and most helpful. I would like to return again sometime when it's not so busy and explore further. Quite an adventure and I did leave with some food products I'm enthusiastic to try soon. read more

Remember, Trader Joe's is still a chain. It's inexpensive, but also doesn't open in very accessible places sometimes. Case in point - why did they choose Amherst? As some others have said, things go out of stock here quickly. It's a smaller store, so that's understandable. But, since it might be a trek to drive to the location, heed warning. That said, you'll always find something you didn't know you were looking for - snacks or products and such. In my experience, things are really hit or miss. I've gotten some products that have been so awful I have to throw them away (Cacio e Pepe sauce is one I remember being awful). Sometimes they're great. At least it's cheap to try them, but it's sad when you're promised a big game and all you get is bland nothing less or worse. Staff are always nice and friendly. I love Trader Joe's! :D The store here is a bit smaller than the ones I'm used to in Seattle, but they have almost everything! The produce section is a bit small, but everything they have here is fresh. I also really love that they have a wide section of gluten-free and organic options. They have a lot of different kinds of gluten free pastas (brown rice, chick pea, beans, etc.) and soy products (soy ice cream, soy sausage, etc.). Ooooh, and the snacks! I walk into Trader Joe's with 1-2 items on my shopping list and end up getting a bag full of gluten-free snacks and organic sweets to try. They do a lot of food samples, so make sure you try some of the food they're promoting. They also have free coffee in the back (small cups but still), in case you need a little caffeine. Personally, I think the Trader Joe's brand dark chocolate peanut butter cups are the best I've ever had - we always have a container in the house just cause! read more

They have an amazing selection of groceries, bakeries and their specialty nuts. Was amazed by the variety of fruits, vegetables, salads and ready to go meals they have. Trader Joe's is my favorite place! I love it because I have found the perfect time to go where it's not too busy and I can browse all the fun gluten free options. Wegmans is always too busy, large, and overwhelming for me. Plus I usually find everything I need here for a great price. Some faves: Everything but the bagel seasoning Produce (esp avocados) Nuts Protein bars Nut butters!! I'm a huge fan of Trader Joe's. As a grad student, I managed a $30/week grocery budget shopping at TJ's. People talk about how it can be expensive and that's not untrue. But, if you make an effort, there are many healthy and reasonably priced options. Even if you're on an extreme budget, you can use some minimal planning to manage nicely shopping at TJ's. I'm a fan of the frozen meals that they offer. Sometimes I just don't have the energy or organization to get my weekly meals together. So it's nice to have some healthier pre-made meals that don't break the bank. We're talk $2-$3 vs. the $4-$6 for the healthier brands at Wegman's. There is a huge variety of options, including for our furry family members. So it is entirely possible to make TJ's a one-stop shop for most of your grocery needs. L The location here is similar to the one that I frequented in Cleveland except that it's bigger. Basically the same number of aisles just on a larger footprint so you have more room to navigate. Parking is easy and the location is convenient. No reason not to check it out if you haven't. read more

I love Trader Joe's! First, the staff are the friendliest and most helpful of any grocery store in the area. I've been to other grocery stores and asked where something is and gotten either a look of annoyance or the reply "I don't know." (Not that I expect someone to know everything, but they could easily find out). At TJ, they are not only quick to help you find what you need, but are friendly and never look annoyed when doing it. The produce is fresh. Good options for heathy, whole food at a reasonable price. GTs kombucha is $2.99 a bottle versus $4.99 a bottle at Whole Foods (only place cheaper is Aldi at $2.89). Also, the frozen food here are the only frozen dinners I like. The stacked eggplant parm is better than most restaurants, and for a little over $3, that's a great deal. The Indian chicken curry meal is great as well. Aside from food, they also have great flowers and succulents for low prices. And beer is sold as a pack or individually so you can mix and match. read more

Out of stocks!!!!! The inconsistencies with the available inventory have truly ruined my shopping experience. The wild caught salmon is never in-stock. The floors are sticky and the plants are always dying. The store never smells like the eucalyptus I have come to know traders joes to have. Every time you ask an associate, they simply say, "it's on the truck tonight." I drive 30mins just to come here and discover that the product is unavailable. Just close the damn store!!!!!! Every time i go to a Trader Joe's its like bliss for me. I always walk out with a handful of bags. My bill is always $100+ i love going here to pick up goodies. You guys have it all. The Buffalo location is smaller than the ones i usually go to but they do have alot of stuff. It is very packed with customers and the staff are fast like line ups wise it goes really fast. I love Trader Joes in general, but this is definitely my favorite location of all time. On top of having the awesome TJ products, the buffalo store has the best service and staff by far. Everyone is so friendly, they remember and greet their customers. The tj experience is very personalized here. Kudos to everyone for keeping great attitudes and smiles on their faces even during after work rush. Im guessing my first experience here when we moved was a one off and someone was having a meh day. Since then, Ive only experienced great things. In addition, flower bouquets are the best from tjs. The most affordable by far vs wegmans and whole foods nearby. Cheapest around 4 bucks and most expensive around 16-17. Theres also a really great selection. I love getting the rose bouquets from here for 7 bucks, try have the prettiest colors snd they are always so fresh. The 7 dollar stargazer lilies also smell amazing and last for a really long time. read more

Trader Joe's has the friendliest and most helpful staff of any other grocery store in the area. The workers seem happy to help you find whatever you are looking for. While checking out on my first visit, I mentioned that I was a newbie, and the check out clerk rang a bell and gave me a complimentary Trader Joe's canvas bag. Another time I happened to mention that I was shopping for my daughter, who is disabled. She left her register and gave me a bouquet of flowers to brighten my daughter's day! How sweet is that? Be sure to try the Speculoos cookies, delicious dunked in coffee. Also, the oatmeal and honey soap is one of the only soaps that doesn't make my skin itch. Cookie Butter is to die for. Did I mention that they have amazing Brioche bread? The beer selection is awesome, and their English Toffee covered in chocolate is the stuff dreams are made of. Their flowers are so fresh and reasonable, and they have a great assortment to choose from. I also love their greeting cards. This is one of two of my favorite WNY supermarkets! You will find the most inviting and uplifting entrance when you walk into this store! And, it is always, always, clean and well stocked!! Where else can you find different variety's of fresh cut flowers, different types of roses all year long and seasonal indoor and outdoor plants and herbs?! I'll tell you where, "Trader Joe's". I purchase a minimum, of 2 flower bouquets a week. I enjoy mixing and matching my own flower arrangements in my home and I find exactly what I am in the mood for every week. Be sure to check out the holiday bouquets, and filler pieces to compliment your arrangements and snag a cute card for .99 and you have a perfect gift for any occasion. It's that easy. I shop at this location on average of 1-2x's a week, when I'm in town. The produce is fresh and I have never had a bad experience of any fruits or veggies go bad. They usually stay fresh for 5-7 days. I also enjoy many of the gluten free items that the store carries. Just before the end of the produce aisle, on the right hand side, their is a shelf where I select my favorite gluten free bread for my runners PB&J sandwich's that I make and gluten free cookies that I pickup for my father. They don't disappoint. Also, check out the gluten free pizza options in the freezer aisle where they have additional gluten free breakfast foods at a fraction of the price of other retailers. Be sure to stop by the taste testing kitchen in the corner near the back of the store. They do at least 2-3 different products daily and it's a nice way to try a new product without going out on a limb and taking a risk of getting off budget. I've discovered many new products that our family loves!! The staff is exceptional at this location. They go out of their way to meet the needs of all customers. A big ring bells for the staff!! Finally, for a splurge, purchase the reusable shopping bags for .99 or a cooler bag. Their bags are colorful and full of interesting designs. Did I mention the bags are leak proof? Yup, they are! Trader Joe's does carries a good selection of beers from the local small crafted breweries and quite a few from the West Coast. Most of them I could never get from my local LCBO and definitely not at that price point even if one day it would ever be available. The reason I am giving them 4 star is because I can do my own mix and match 6 pack! Too bad my fridge at home is so small! If not, me and my Yelp friend would have pick up 48 bottles of all these different beers! :) I also appreciate how reasonably priced even for organic/natural snack for dogs. Had my first experience at a Trader Joe's today and have to say, I'm in love! I know that people who shop here really love it and love their products, so I did a little research before my trip to find out what I had to buy. Little did I know that there is a best of Trader Joe's list that comes out on a yearly basis, the winners in each category are chosen by their shoppers. I am happy to say quite a few of the items on the list were available to me today, and I got a few extras as well that spoke to me. Let me start with the danish kringle that is basically the size of my torso. Get out of here! What a steal! It's a "cut a chunk off" kind of beast and according to packaging freezes very well so I will probably be eating this until I die. I also got the speculoos cookies and the magical cookie butter, that people say is so delectable it can be eaten out of the jar. Have not tried this yet, but I'm not ruling it out. I also grabbed a new variety of apples that I've never seen anywhere else, called Envy. Supposedly crisp and sweet, with a hint of tartness, I'm looking forward to trying this one out!! I was surprised by their frozen food section, it's quite existence compared to the other sections of the store. Is this promising? I think so! I got a few things from this neck of the woods including the diner Mac and cheese that some reviewers said is good enough to eat for breakfast, and their award winning spinach and artichoke dip. Very excited to try both!! I want to give all five stars and maybe some day I can, but my first time was a little overwhelming and I though the store lacked some organization. I realize it's not the size of other supermarkets but still, I found it kind of hard to navigate. I first discovered Trader Joe's many, many years ago on a visit to New Mexico. I would pack my suitcase with so many different goodies for home. But now.... I actually try NOT to go to Trader Joe's because I love all of their "treat myself" items way too much. There are so many good, unique, healthy things, but that's not what I fill my cart with! I had to go...I was out of a couple of my TJ's staples: Tumeric-Ginger Tea (which tastes like black liquorice-lemon) & "Everything but the bagel" sprinkle, which can turn any bagel (or anything you want to sprinkle it on) into an everything bagel. Almond Ginger granola! Also wanted a couple of annual seasonal items: Wassail (a black current juice mixture with mulled spices) and Huntsman Cheddar (sharp cheddar with blue stilton stripes). I got my "needs" and much, much more! White Truffle Potato Chips - to die for! Lime Shortbread cookies covered in powder sugar - pack an extreme lime punch! Butter toffee covered pretzels! Triple Ginger Ginger snaps - my first TJ's love. The list goes on and on. Have yet to get over the grieving, though, of the discontinuation of my Feta Spread! The nerve of them! Premier carries a Feta Spread, but at twice the price :( Anyways, Trader Joes is a wonderland of reasonably priced, unique goodies. So, beware if it's your initial voyage! read more

I think maybe there is a Trader Joe's in heaven. I'm only guessing, but I feel like it's q good guess. I wanted to dislike this hyped up store on principle because there is so much hype, but damn if I don't love it. Yeah, there are the hipsters and all the college kids because of its proximity to UB North. The parking does suck. It's a nightmare, and the place can be a zoo sometimes. There's no getting around that. The staff is almost always so friendly and helpful. The last time I went the cashier was so nice and easy-going with his small talk that he actually made me smile after a tough day. I wish I could remember his name. I love going in there to check out the produce. I love their selections of healthy food. I love being able to sample some of their products. The most recent was a delicious apple cider and a roasted red pepper soup in a carton that was to die for. I planned on getting it but got distracted by the sweet potato bisque that I had to have. I love getting their frozen potstickers. They come in chicken and pork and they don't last long at all in my house. There is a good Gyoza sauce that goes well with them too. Oh, and they have to die for frozen Naan. Ob and a green matcha tea latte mix. And, basically, Trader Joe's is the best. It can be pricy, but sometimes it's worth it dammit. read more

Trader Joe's has a lot of really great store brand items made with simple ingredients, natural ingredients, and high quality ingredients. Food matters! and what you put in your body matters too! I live in South Cheektowaga so heading up to this Joe's isn't always something that is on my way but every time I do I'm reminded why I keep coming back. It's been a year since my last update and felt the need to log on and increase my star rating from 2 to 4 stars because I feel as though Trader Joe's has really gotten their act together since my last review. Last year, I would take the 25 minute drive and be disappointed that the produce wasn't fresh and that they were out of essential items. Now, rarely do I find myself having trouble finding a good piece of fruit or vegetable and their price, while they never change still beat any other supermarket in the area. The sole reason for this update, however, is the customer service that I have experience over and over again. They have a no questions asked return policy. Yesterday I came in to the store to return package of beets. I had told the lady at the cashier that they were unopened, but that I had purchased two other packages the same day as these and the other two packages tasted funny and didn't want to risk opening a third purchased at the same time. I did not have the other two beet packages with me, nor did I ask for or expect any sort of refund for the other two I had since disposed of. The manager came over to the cash register and WITHOUT HESITATION, credited me for three packages of beets. I was confused, and felt guilty accepting this refund, so I inquired with him because I thought he was making a mistake. At that point, the female assisting me told me, not to worry and that I shouldn't have had such a poor experience with the other two packages, apologized and handed me my refund. I couldn't believe how considerate this was and without any hassle whatsoever. If only you could have seen the nightmare I faced at Wegmans a few weeks ago, trying to return an unopened item, with the receipt! This policy at Trader Joe's is fantastic and is the reason why I continue to shop here on a weekly basis. They have really great prices on their brown rice breads and tortillas. Their 99% lean turkey meat is a dollar cheaper than other stores in the area. Steamed lentils which can feed five or six people are only $2.49 a package and are so delicious. Their cleaned and cut kale is in a huge bag and only $2. Their nuts are cheaper than other stores and they have a huge assortment. I always get the individual packaged dry roasted unsalted almonds for $6.49. Their unsalted sunflower seeds only $2 and in a big bag. I find that their almond butters are REALLY salty, so if I were you I would stick to the unsalted versions. Their vegetable, chicken and beef stocks are on average a dollar cheaper than most stores too. I hope Trader Joe's continues to be great, got me worried there for a second! read more

Trader Joe's is open in Buffalo! Rejoice! I wasn't sure what to expect. I've been in TJ's before in other cities, but only while traveling and I didn't really buy too much. I thought it would be a mecca of expensive specialty items, but I was pleasantly surprised to instead find...reasonably priced specialty items. Horray! At 5pm on a Monday, it was pretty easy to get around and not crowded at all. Few items that I got: - Lobster Ravioli - at $3.99 they sell it non-frozen and the ingredients are not full of fake stuff. No preservatives or food coloring. - Chana Masala (frozen) - was like $2.29 and it was delicious. A bit too much sodium to be able to consume this regularly, but it was yummy! - They had some nice looking apples that didn't seem like they had wax coating on it. It was 69cents per apple and they were so good! - Quinoa / Bean Corn Chips -- these things are so addicting! Yum. - Red Quinoa - $3.99/lb -- in a nice resealable bag too. It was a pleasant surprise to shop here. The items are reasonably priced and the prepared stuff is delicious! They have a pretty nice cheese section too. The nuts section is also great. As Dan mentioned, pistachios are priced at like $5.99 compared to $8 at Wegman's, which is awesome. Welcome to Buffalo, TJs! I love that they carry a good selection of organic items without costing an arm & leg! My family LOVES Trader J's for snacks. T-Jo's, Jo-Jo's and simply TJ are nicknames my kids gives this place I should know when they want something from here because they feel so chummy with the brand. Majority of the items is store brand but you can also find some popular organic-y brands like Luna bars, Dr Bronner's soap, and Clif bars are a few I remember seeing. The store is very clean and organized. There is a tasting station near the back, and we've purchased items we normally would not have had we not tried it first. I've read somewhere you can ask to try something before purchasing and they will open up the product but I've yet to test if thats true. You can return something back to the store if you tried it and didn't like it. I did return a few items (3 at most since the store opened? ) we did not enjoy and they gave me the credit no questions asked. The staff is always amazingly friendly/chirpy which makes the shopping experience awesome as well. So if you haven't visited Trader Joe's yet - Go! Now that Trader Joe's has settled in nicely to the Consumer Square area, I have to say that it's one of my favorite places to shop. Parking and traffic flow are no longer issues at any given time, save for perhaps the Black Friday/Christmas season. Many (most) of the items here are trendy and exciting. I like that kind of stuff. Bacon flavored popcorn? Uh yeah! Watermelon and Cucumber Cooler? Fill me up! I LOVE their frozen Chinese food. The Kung Pao Chicken being my favorite. The Mandarin Chicken is good too, as is every variety of gyoza. The scallion pancakes too! Sometimes their Chinese is better than the food at some of the Chinese places I've frequented. I also adore their produce. They have such thoughtful blends of veggies or fruit in their packaged items. Makes cooking a breeze on nights when you don't feel like chopping things. I am also addicted to their coconut oil, in both solid and spray form. It's amazing and super affordable. My cats LOVE the canned food here. My dogs LOVE some of the treats and chews. I adore the fresh flowers and rarely leave here without a fresh bouquet. SUPER inexpensive too! This store is simply awesome. The prices are amazing. Most products are great. Not much of a trade but a great place to buy specialty items. I've been coming to this store since I moved to Buffalo (~4yr). Is very well organized and stocked. I typically go for their product section (fresh fruits, veggies and cheese). But they also have a great products in their frozen, meat, household and snack section. TJ's has 99 reviews, but mine ain't one! Until now (and also now it has 100 reviews)... Trader Joe's, oh Trader Joe's, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways! 1. Free samples 2. Quality produce 3. Tasty snacks 4. Easy freezer meals 5. Many varieties of ethnic cuisine 6. Ready-made salads and wraps for lunch on-the-go 7. It's own newsletter with recipes 8. Delicious desserts 9. Beautiful fresh flowers 10. Reasonable prices. I could go on! But we all have things to do... My only lament is that our local TJ's doesn't sell the 2-buck-chuck wine I came to enjoy when living outside of NY, but that's a function of NY's arcane liquor laws and the blasted 21st Amendment that allows them. Until that changes, I'm forced to keep going to the liquor store (or more frequently, ordering wine by mail for delivery)! And I do love that TJ's sells beer by the bottle so I can try more for less. What's not to love?? In conclusion, TJ's makes me wish I had a second freezer.
