This is the Wegmans closest to my mom's house, so whenever I'm back in Buffalo, this is my Wegmans even though I used to work at the Alberta Drive location. Naturally, I still find myself frequenting this Wegmans whenever I'm back in Buffalo. The Amherst Street Wegmans has a massive parking lot, though you would never know it during the peak hours. Between how popular this store already is and the addition of the Wegmans Wine & Spirits shop in the same plaza, it's usually pretty packed. You might not snag a spot close to the entrance but you'll find a spot. Might I suggest that patience is basically required, as with all things Wegmans. Once inside, I'm almost always overwhelmed (in the best way) by how much there is. Prepared foods, deli counter, meat and seafood, bakery, flowers, produce, frozen foods. You name it, Wegmans has it and they probably have a Wegmans branded version, too. I love browsing the craft beer section and, more recently, the growing selection of non-alcoholic options (Thank you, Wegmans!). Honestly, I can't complain. Yes, Wegmans can feel overwhelming, but now that I don't actually work there anymore, I've grown to appreciate the variety, freshness, quality, and pricing. The things I would do for Wegmans to come to the West Coast... until then, I'll keep savoring every visit to Weggies while I'm back home. read more

I love Wegmans and this location is no different. With it being in the city, it's evident that both the parking lot and store are smaller than suburban locations but they do their best to maximize the space. The parking spots are narrower than suburban locations, but there is a lot of parking. The store felt slightly more cramped than my go-to location, even shopping with a small cart was tight to navigate through the produce section and the aisles were busy with shoppers and staff restocking. It's also a busy location, even on a Friday afternoon. But the store was clean and well organized, and they had a lot of registers open and staffed by courteous cashiers. The quality and selection of their food is fantastic, better than most grocery stores in the area. read more

I'm rarely here these days. I used to come twice a month or so to fill prescriptions but I don't need to do that anymore. Which means I don't shop here much anymore either. During Covid I found that their Covid procedures weren't as robust as I would've liked. Parking lot was always full, store was always crowded staff were trying to sort of organize people but it wasn't super effective. However, so I did drop off one of their coffee cake swirl things recently and I have to say that thing was really really good. It might make me go back into this Wegmans sooner rather than later. Wegmans is a dream combination of quality grocery + delicious prepared foods (and in my case, a dream for any gastronome traveler)! When I'm home I love to cook for my family, but when I'm traveling for work, trying to find a decent lunch venue after I get to my local hotel can feel redundant. Do I visit another chain restaurant? Try a local sandwich shop? ...oh wait, it's closed. When I'm in Buffalo, however, my first stop after getting my rental car is Wegmans. The prepared food options are abundant. Do I get a gourmet salad? Maybe some sushi? Am I at an extended stay hotel with an oven...because now my options have tripled! If I know I'm going to have an uninterrupted lunch, I always go for a mini charcuterie tray, small cheese sampler tray, and a bag of crostini. Nab a bottle water and single chocolate chip cookie all for under $25. Darn it...now that I've finished my review, I'm wishing I could run down to Wegmans! read more

I am disappointed with my recent experience at the Wegmans on 601 Amherst St. I was denied service simply for walking my e-scooter to the store. I find it odd, considering shopping carts and handicap scooters are much larger and seem to be acceptable. I was walking my scooter, not riding it, as I rely on it for transportation in my work as a DoorDash and Uber Eats driver. This policy is not only inconvenient but also discriminatory. I expect a store like Wegmans, known for its customer service, to be more accommodating to all forms of personal transportation. This incident has left me questioning whether I will continue to shop at this location. Tops on Niagara street / Maryland / Kohls / Walgreens in the other hand have allow me to at least once or twice park or walk my e-scooter in the store and there hasn't been any inconveniences ever. read more

Overall still 5 stars with a few minor caveats. The Good: Great selection of products. Fresh produce and meats. Best prices by far for most everyday items without waiting for a sale or in-store coupons. Very pleasant and dynamic shopping environment, with staff visible and at the ready to help the customer with a genuine smile. Seriously. Sometimes, they even go above and beyond. Example: bringing a shopping cart to someone clearly overloaded with groceries--you know, the person (me) who came in for "one thing"--without needing to be asked. Or the time I desperately needed a jump. I went up to customer service and asked if they knew of anyone who could help. In less than 5 minutes, an Asset Protection rep came along and had my car running just like that! The bad: they move things around a lot--great marketing tool, but frustrating as heck! They completed a massive conversion recently. I'll need to adjust. Not sure this even qualifies as "bad", just inconvenient. And, they are no longer open all night! And...they don't sell cots! Occasionally when I'm out I go to this Wegmans location. The parking lot is usually busy but the spaces open up quickly. I noticed that there were lots of empty blocks of space in the toilet paper section of the paper isle. I didn't find the Viva paper towels that I was looking for but I found a comparably priced brand. There wasn't much in the ready made food section for vegetarians. But there is a large frozen vegetarian food section. The check out clerk was really cheerful and helpful. This location is always clean and organized and well worth doing your shopping if you're closer to this one. read more

I (stupidly) volunteered to come here... on a SUNDAY... to grab "getting ready snacks" prior to a wedding I was in. All joking aside, I came here to help out BUT, this place was an f-ing MAD HOUSE on a Sunday around 11:00am. Wouldn't recommend coming to this place on a Sunday. My list included 5 subs, veggie tray, fruit tray, pita chips and hummus. When I tell you, I was in here for OVER AN HOUR, I am not joking. The produce section was GRID LOCKED. I literally left my mini shopping cart to grab what I needed because people were packed in there like sardines. But then of course, you have the people that are more important than everyone else, shoving there way around there. Like- hello, I'm waiting to get to that are too. IT. WAS. AWFUL. Then there's the sub shop. Moving to TX, I have to say, we MISS Wegman's subs so much. I was excited to get one!! There were a couple people in line ahead of me so we waited patiently. I was surprised that there were 6 or 7 workers behind the counter and only ONE was making subs. My patience was weaning. Once it was our turn and the girl started on our 5 subs, another individual started working on other people's subs because a line started to form. The girl helping me was friendly but my God, pick up the pace! I worked in a pizza shop where we made subs and I would have done them in a fraction of the time. Patience is a virtue. Breathe. After gathering all our snacks, it was time to check out. Went to the self checkout as the lines were packed. New York/Wegman's is all "environmental" now... no plastic shopping bags. So we bought a reusable one and a paper bag for like 5-7 cents. I started ringing up my stuff and one sub (all mediums or smalls) came up $11.50. WHAT?!? Ugh. It was put in a "combo" bag. The girl working the self checkout took it off but told me to bring it to customer service and they'll ring it out. More work. Yay. Breathe. Lastly, the prices here are INSANE. Like, I'm not sure if it's all New York areas in general OR if Wegman's knows they have a following and can charge whatever they want and the sheep will pay it??? Everything is WAY higher than in Houston. I mean, I spent $85!!! Small veggie tray, $12. Fruit tray $12. Pita chips $5-something. Sub prices seems to rise every time we come up to NY. (The consensus from my friends who live in the Rochester area agree that Wegman's prices have sky rocketed. Spending $150-200 on a shopping trip and not really knowing WHAT they got for that $$. Yikes.) All in all, yes, I like Wegman's in general. This visit was pretty stressful. If you do not like crowds and chaos, do NOT come here on a Sunday. If you have to, load up on anxiety meds or do a shot or two in the parking lot before venturing in. Trust me, you'll need it and thank me later. read more

This is my go-to supermarket in Buffalo--this particular Wegmans location. The service (with few exceptions), has been top-notch for the twenty-five years I have shopped here. Every department is always clean, well-organized, and well-lit. That's important, as a scuzzy supermarket is an unpleasant thing. Apart from the groceries, they offer a wide selection of prepared foods to eat on the spot in their spacious dining area. From prepared salads to soups to a Chinese-food bar to pizza to coffee and sandwiches to sushi, they'll provide have something for you to eat if you'd like to shop without being hungry (usually a good idea). In fact, I find myself dropping in for a quick lunch or a coffee now and then even if I'm not shopping for groceries. There is also a large, well-stocked wine and liquor store conveniently located across the parking lot, so shopping trips are a bit more convenient in this old-fashioned state that still doesn't allow wine and spirits to be sold alongside groceries. read more

My favorite place to grocery shop! Friendly customer service on all levels in any department and helpful too. Excellent deals if you use their shoppers club - I use the App. Returning items is no hassle and often comes with an apology from the Associate. Great selection of gluten free and Vegan options. The employees were very nice & very helpful. The one girl,Samantha,took me all the way to the item I was looking for instead of just telling me where it is, only for me to get lost in that big store. I needed a new Wegman's Shoppers Club" card, so I went to the Customer Service desk & was taken care of almost instantly. Signed up for the card & was told I'd get it in the mail in about 4-5 days. This is clearly the best grocery store on the planet. Don't believe me? Then go there. Last night I was there and got Cheribundi 3-pack for $9.99. It's usually $6.49 per bottle. Great prices at this store. The rotisserie chicken is delicious. The Wegman's store brands are as good and often much better than name brands, and they cost less. Produce is abundant, local (when possible) and displayed nicely. I can walk there, bike there, or take the #32 bus. It's so convenient. I love this place. read more

This is good location with a great bakery selection such as donuts, bagels, breads, and cakes. The latter having my favorite, the Ultimate Carrot Cake with nice fluffy cream cheese icing and lots of raisins. The coconut donuts are to die for as well. On my last visit we ordered chicken parm and meatloaf dinners at $9 a piece wit two sides. Unfortunately those dinners are provided cold to you. The chicken parm was good with a thick chicken breast. The meatloaf was a it too mushy for me. The my have a couple of microwaves around to heat those dinners up but it will take you 3-4 minutes for each entree. The #1 reason I probably love Wegmans is their genuine concern for promoting healthy eating habits. This is evident in all their stores when you walk - the first thing you see is the produce/fruit section (not counting the seasonal items they promote as you enter through the doors). The organic section for produce is more organized in recent years so it's easier to find things. I find the parking lot to be bigger at this location as they've the other side for the Market Cafe. They carry pretty much the same things in all their stores, but this Wegmans does do one thing I don't see at the other locations. They make fresh juices and smoothies during the Summer through Fall when the fruits are in season. The smoothies are really good as they're made fresh daily. They also have a self checkout now for those who: 1) think they can bag + check out faster than the trained cashiers at Wegs 2) have kids who miss the Wegmans exhibit at Rochester's Strong Museum 3) said kids in #2 aspire to work at Wegmans someday read more

Edited: from five stars to five stars lol. DoorDash screwed up our order and hung up on us. Called Wegmans directly and they delivered the missing items immediately AND gave us four cookies. Four free cookies and a direct resolution...for something that wasn't their fault! An actual Wegmans employee drove it over, not a Doordash one. I could not be more pleased about their commitment to good customer service. This is specifically in reference to the food delivery. If you order groceries for delivery from Wegmans through Instacart the delivery is far more expensive than to $2.99 you pay if you order from the carry out. The selections are limited to what they sell in that section, but if you have been to Wegmans you know that means you can order pretty much anything. There are traditional dinners with two sides, sushi, pizza, subs, desserts, soups, etc. available so there is something for everyone. I usually alternate between a poke bowl or the chicken french (just because of personal food preferences) which are both complete dinners and about ten bucks a piece. There are standards, like meatloaf, chicken Parmesan, rigatoni, etc. There is also a full sushi menu. Anything I have ever ordered out of those sections has been great, and again, about ten bucks. The sides and soup selections are extensive and run about four bucks a piece. The chicken noodle soup tastes like my grandma's homemade version and the lobster bisque was surprisingly good (usually it's imitation and made with the leftovers from an old special when it's on the menu, and that is not the case here). I usually get the Mac and cheese just because I could eat that specific food every day, and it's great. It's nothing fancy but it's definitely well worth the price. The salads and salad offerings are numerous but I try not to eat vegetables (they keep growing in your stomach and it makes you look puffy) so I can't tell you how they are. The only criticism I can think of is that I would like more dessert choices, and that's really me stretching to find something to say that isn't positive. They have a couple cakes and cannoli chips. I love dessert and every time I find a place that has it to go they already have two stars, but it's always nice when there is something that isn't standard to order. I have heard so many awesome things about Wegman's over the years... but believe it or not I had never been until a recent trip to Buffalo. I don't think I was expecting such a nice store! When you walk in, the produce and prepared food areas are impressive. There are sample stations, beautifully presented produce, and quite a variety of prepared foods. My kids fell right for the sushi, and returned not once but twice that weekend for more sushi. They found some great premade vegetarian sushi, and my youngest asked for carrot sushi, which was made quite fast, to her delight. The prepared food can be pretty expensive - but it was amazing. We actually ate lunch at Wegmans on our road trip. The food court area is very nice, and the following day we stopped at a nearby Wegman's and enjoyed some live music. The third trip to another Wegman's in Canandaigua, they had a beautiful patio area. There is a great variety of foods and goodies. I felt like I was finding all kinds of things, like a variety of fake meat I hadn't heard of, rice roll snacks similar to those we've only found at the asian market, and so on. It was hard not to fill up our basket. The only downside is that there were a lot of high prices. The store is very appealing and so are their products. They even have umbrellas for customers to use, and I felt like Wegman's puts thought into their stores. We all know and love Wegmans. That doesn't need to be said. But, what I can say is that this location is solid on the grocery side. This was our primary location for years when we lived in Elmwood. I had to laugh when I read the review that says they like this location better than the Amherst one because I'm the opposite. Don't get me wrong, I love this one too and would never hesitate to shop here. But my heart is on Alberta Drive. That said, the staff here is always super friendly and the cafe has a long bench with outlets for each seat, which is a huge win in my book. I don't like this cafe as much as the one on Alberta but it's still really good. There is ample parking and they have updated the non-traffic light entrance to facilitate traffic flow. So, overall, still 5 stars. read more

Wegmans clearly overcharges for their roses during peak demand (i.e. Valentine's Day). Yes, flowers should be more expensive during this period of time where a lot of people are buying them for loved ones, however they are not keeping with competative pricing of other stores like Aldi, Trader Joes and Save-a-lot, and in fact are more expensive than Tops. Consider that a dozen roses at Wegmans are currently priced at $22 and at Aldi the very same color, same stem length and quality are $9.99 a dozen. I reached out and instead of trying to rectify that discrepancy and give me a retroactive price adjustment they said it is their price based on market demand. read more
