Wegmans clearly overcharges for their roses during peak demand (i.e. Valentine's Day). Yes, flowers should be more expensive during this period of time where a lot of people are buying them for loved ones, however they are not keeping with competative pricing of other stores like Aldi, Trader Joes and Save-a-lot, and in fact are more expensive than Tops. Consider that a dozen roses at Wegmans are currently priced at $22 and at Aldi the very same color, same stem length and quality are $9.99 a dozen. I reached out and instead of trying to rectify that discrepancy and give me a retroactive price adjustment they said it is their price based on market demand. read more

I prefer Aldi's, PriceRite, Trader Joe's and smaller grocery stores to Wegmans. However, giving credit to where credit is due: the meats at Wegmans are generally much higher quality and if I'm not buying from a butcher, I'll come here for a steak. The absolutely huge store is overwhelming at times though and I end up spending too much time here searching for things. Things like beans, coffee, etc...they are not placed in an intuitive place and I end up getting in an inadvertent exercise session walking around the store searching for items sometime. 5 stars for low checkout times, even during peak hours. 2 stars for prices. While you can find a good deal sometime, what a $30 session will cost me at another grocery store will cost me 3x at Wegmans, so I ultimately avoid shopping here most of the time. I do like their bakery department and I do end up getting birthday cakes from Wegmans oftentimes. I attempted to order pizza from wegmans for delivery. I had issues some of it mine due to the fact that it's my first time using the wegmans meals to go app. Initially I ordered a pizza but you have to order two for free delivery (door dash). When I ordered the toppings on the pizza I realized it accented the toppings on both pizza. I called the Amherst St. store without knowing what store the order was coming from they didn't have my order they tried to transfer me to customer service for additional help. I hung up after waiting and called the Alberta Dr. Store this store didn't have my order either. They at least were helpful in getting me to some one in the meals 2 go department. Megan was able to inform me they have the order but couldn't change it because they were already made. Seemed odd being that's where I called first-hand. My husband and I, life long Buffalonians, were shopping at Wegmans and realized that neither of us has had a Wegman's sub in years. SO my husband got us a table, and I waited in line. And waited. How can you not love Wegman's? Form their clean bathrooms with full baby changing station and supplies (diapers, wipers etc) to their full selection of pre-made foods, it has everything. When I want to go someplace and have a "nice" shopping experience, complete with some coffee (before covid at least), a nice bathroom, great bakery options, a killer cheese section, and sushi- I go to Wegman's. Great place to shop for groceries especially if you like organic or hard to find items. Store is always very clean and the employees are very helpful. They will always stop what they are doing to help you find whatever you may need. I love the giant fresh scallops they have and they have excellent fresh sushi as well. The steaks and meat department is very nice and usually very well stocked. I come here exclusively to buy bulk lean ground beef bulk ground turkey and bulk solid white albacore tuna. Those items are a great bargain. They make excellent subs are generous with the meat and the pizza is pretty decent as well. Some items are a little more expensive than you would find at Aldi but for how nice the store is it's usually worth getting most groceries here. There are some things you can only get at Wegmans. Great fresh gluten free sushi. But there are many more things you can no longer get at Wegmans. Organic produce and gluten free options have been tanking. Also organic meat, especially if you want family packa of it. Sure they're suffering supply constraints like most grocers, but at a higher rate. The worst thing about this Wegmans is their incessant need to rearrange the store once everyone gets used to product locations. The most recent arrangement has them hiding (or perhaps eliminating) the gluten free aisle. 3/3 employees didnt know where it disappeared to. They've also moved their bulk water location from aisle 3 to nowhere. It's not in the water aisle either. Every single major grocery aisle has been shuffled from snacks to asian to soup and everything in between. I'm sure if they could move frozen or produce they would. Since the pandemic Wegmans has been going downhill, while most others are now in a better place. Aldi, TJ's, and Whole Foods have all moved ahead. This review is for the Old Fashioned Submarine counter at the Wegmans location on Amherst Street. I arrived around 7:15pm on a Thursday evening, and when I got there, there were about 5 people ahead of me in line. Behind the counter, there were about 4 people in all, but only 2 of them were making sandwiches. One guy was sweeping the floor, and another person had her back turned and appeared to be doing something more administrative. Of the two people making sandwiches, one of them was held up helping someone ahead of me who ordered MULTIPLE subs. This person was already at the counter ordering subs when I arrived, and she was still at the counter ordering more subs when I left. In other words, there was only one person behind the counter making subs for everyone in line. When I looked behind me in line, a big line had formed with over 10 people behind me! Finally it was my turn. I kept my order short and easy, so that I could get out of there fast! In conclusion, I have never seen such an ineffective system. With people in line, why did they have someone sweeping? With 10-15 people in line, why were there not more people making sandwiches? Why did management not check in on them, and provide them with more help? In this case, it's not the employees but management that failed their customers. read more

Are you looking for cruelty free personal care products? Oh yeah they got you. Are you lactose intolerant but you still get that ice cream craving? So many choices for that. Are you gluten free and looking for a snack? They got all the snacks. Do you want a six pack of beer but crave more variety in your life? Go ahead and craft your own six pack. Pick whatever you want. You feel like grinding up your own coffee beans? Go. For. It. You get the sudden urge to bake a pie but don't have the cookware? They have it. Do you prefer to shop for locally sourced fresh produce? If Wegman's were a person, she'd be your well-dressed sister who looks chic without trying. European in feel with expansive and well-curated butcher/baker/wine/cheese departments and an outstanding produce department (with at least 30 kinds of mushrooms you never see at grocery stores like hen-of-the-woods). The main grocery store is enormous. Employees are extremely service-oriented and you'll never be at a loss to find someone to help you in a nano-second (and usually without asking). You'll pay a premium for the merchandise and service, it's a little pricey. Even I, and I live in San Francisco, was a little sticker-shocked once I got to the check-out. I expected the tab to be less, but it was California prices in upstate New York. Still, if I lived in Buffalo, I'd shop here for the quality and selection. I think, however, Wegman's is going to get a run for its money once Trader Joe's opens (which I hear is imminent). read more

Ok, maybe 3.5 stars. The biggest problem I have with this location is the cluster jam at the front in the produce section, and again in back near dairy. This Wegmans seems smaller than the ones in Amherst and Cheektowaga, or maybe it just feels smaller. Either way, shopping here is not for the claustrophobic. My other complaint is the quality of produce. I understand it takes 3 days to ship stuff from California, but if the lettuce has liquified or the onions are mushy, they need to be tossed. Twice I've returned moldy cheese - and not the good kind. Mushrooms, apples and strawberries have all had to be tossed a day after purchase. The bakery is nice. Lots of mini desserts, so you don't have to buy the caloric farm when you get a sweet tooth! The selection of organic groceries is growing everyday. And I love their yogurt selection. I always find a fun item in the international section to make entertaining unique - jammy dodgers anyone?! I have always had decent cuts of meat and the organic local chicken is very good. Fish...I stick with line caught, sustainable choices, which means I can't afford to buy it frequently. Overall, the checkers are fast and friendly. Wegmans is really the only place i'll shop, and believe me, i KNOW how lucky we are to have such a quality grocer in our region (especially after enduring three miserable years of Acme's and Super Giant when i lived in Philly), but the man and i cannot understand why the produce at this location is so awful! we realize that this may have been a 'bad year for fresh crops' (and really, don't we hear that every damn year, no matter what the weather?), but it is truly despicable that the quality fresh vegetables and fruits are reserved mostly for the specially prepared veggie packaging that Wegmans lays out in mountains all over the store. this leaves the nastiest specimens for the rest of us to choose from (really, see the picture i've posted along with this review -- which has since been removed by Yelp at the request of Wegman's...i guess they don't like seeing the awful rotting truth). what's most appalling to me, is the number of rotting fruits and veggies that seem proudly heaped all over the store. i actually had to point out to a produce worker here that every single package of baby bella mushrooms contained mold. he reacted with surprise, but he didn't pull the rest of the rotting packages off the shelf. i've also bought red peppers here that have looked beautiful on the outside and when it was cut into, it was rotting from the inside out. fresh produce is NOT cheap, and i'm tired of having to go on treasure hunts for it at this Wegmans locale when we shop each week. after an entire summer of nothing but overpriced, rotting crap, the man and i are about ready to seek out another option for our groceries altogether. coincidentally, i have also purchased an increasing number of Wegmans brand foods that have been opened and ended up being spoiled, despite the expiration date clearly showing it was still good. Wow I love this grocery store. I really wish they would move their store and philosophy on running a store up north a bit...or a lot! The food is awesome, the selection large and the prices are all awesome compared to Canada and I know there are cheaper stores in and around the Buffalo area. My favourite thing from Wegman's is coming in to grab a sub before running off to a Buffalo Bills game as they have some deliciously large subs for amazing prices, especially considering the quality. I'd pass up any of the sub chains to come here for a sub in a heart beat. The staff are all well trained and are ALWAYS friendly and helpful. We decided to do our shopping at wegmans on Amherst street and didn't know what to do for dinner. We walked over to the pizza area and it was pizza night on Friday's so we decided to get one while we shopped around. The deal was 1 large pizza and 1 topping for $10. It was a good deal so we ordered pick it up and then went home. It smelled and looked good but when we took the first bite it was probably the worst pizza I have ever had. Dominos was better then this pizza and they aren't that great. This pizza had zero sauce on it and they used cheap pepperoni. It also had a weird taste to it. We've been trying to cook more do to the severe shortage of good restaurants in Buffalo. After visiting each of the local Wegman's a dozen or so times I can confidently say the differences are marginal. The best grocery chain in the city. I exclusively shop at Wegmans. On some items they can be more expensive than other stores, but I don't care and for the most part what I usually buy is cheaper than other grocers. The staff, cleanliness, service, and offerings in their stores more than make up for the extra money that I would be saving by shopping at other sub par grocery stores in the area. It also doesn't hurt that I happen to live less than 3 minutes walking to the nearest Wegmans (Amherst st). Why would I go out of my way by driving to another grocery store? "Waka waka." -Fozzie Bear, The Muppet Show ********************** What does waka waka mean? Apparently, it means a lot of things but it is mostly a phrase shrouded in mystery. The best definition is that it is a nonsense phrase used to be funny. I think that's when most people use it anyway, including Fozzie Bear. Well, I would definitely say waka waka a lot in Wegman's. I mean, why wouldn't I say it as I'm walking the candy aisle where you can put gummi candies and different little chocolates in bags, kidnapping them to take home. Or while I'm walking the cereal aisle deciding whether or not to get Marshmallow Treasures or Crispix. I usually get both. Honey Nut Cheerios is good too. I saw waka waka a lot here because it is an awkward place. How are you really supposed to choose a cereal really when there's over a hundred boxes sitting in front of you all hoping to be chosen? You begin the mental process of finding some type of parameters for making a decision. Mine usually come down to which cereal will taste better when I have cereal cravings late at night. My friend helped host some North Korean visitors in Virginia Beach and they brought them to a local grocery store. The people honestly thought the place had been staged by the American government because there was so much quality food in one place. It goes to show we should be honestly be so thankful for what we have, especially at a place like Wegman's that goes above beyond the call of duty. Wegman's is definitely the best of grocery stores. I really enjoy shopping at smaller local places. I feel like a place like Aldi deserves five stars for being very special and unique. Wegman's get four stars because they are becoming like so many other large grocery stores in the country. They need to be courageously unique to get five stars. They do bail me out constantly when I need a late night ice cream stop (we're talking after 10pm). It's nice to have a place open all the time. It's rare for them to not have what you're looking for and you really can't beat that they're open 24/7! Sure, they're expensive, but they are fresh and good quality. Wegmans is also my go-to for bakery items The one thing I didn't like was the bottle return was kind of dirty. On our way back from Niagara Falls we stopped by Wegman's. Since it being my first Wegman's experience, I was excited to see and compare to the Boston & New Hampshire stores. I was blown away at all the variety especially with all the wonderful prepared foods CHEAP, not like at Whole Foods. Some examples: -$6.00 chicken burrito w/ corn, guac, and sour cream and chips & salsa. -$5.00 Fresh sushi rolls made right in front of you. Loved the cheeses, olive bar, deli, and many local foods not found in Boston. Big stores with big complex departments, all catering to your inner chef. Beautiful store, great selection. Produce and natural food selection is unsurpassed in the area. Prepared food selections are top notch, with fresh sushi, Indian, pizza, Chinese, subs, and other products ready to go. The bakery offers many organic choices, and the craft beer section is pretty impressive. The gourmet cheese and olive department is another favorite. My only complaint is not really a complaint at all--more of a caveat: Wegmans is so popular that it is generally MOBBED at peak days/hours. It can be hard to navigate the aisles and (even with all the registers open) it can take a while to check out. So, shop off-peak or plan to spend a good chunk of your afternoon at the store. read more

Love this store because it usually has 99% of everything I need at a reasonable price. The Wegmans brand is usually a pretty good product and great price. I feel if you know how to shop then Wegmans is an affordable place to get great quality produce, meat, seafoods and dry goods. I even bought a small Christmas tree there, it was like $19!!!! I went to the Wegmans on Amherst st in Buffalo, NY to find a florist for my wedding in October. Not only did they have super reasonable prices (because after all....they are just flowers that end up dying a week later. I don't need to spend a grand or more on something like that) but the florist treated me with such kindness and helped guide me through everything. I believe Eric was who helped me(he has a taco tattoo by his ear..love it!) and what a wonderful person. When I went in the day before my wedding to pick everything up, I was super nervous just in general about the whole weekend. I went in feeling anxious and overwhelmed, and left with a lot of relief feeling way better about the day after just chatting with him! Really helped keep my mind away from all the stress. As a native of Rochester, NY I have been going to Wegmans since I was a fetus. When I was a wee little girl shopping along side my mother, I was lured in by their Cookie Club. (a free cookie of the child's choosing when they would stop by the bakery. I usually went for a chewy chocolate chip.) I have been a die-hard fan ever since. Wegmans built their empire on superb customer service. Give the customers what they want and remember that they are always right. You are nothing without your patrons! They can be a little pricey on some items, yes, but their house brand products more than make up for it. In some instances, they're better! Their fresh departments make me want to sing! (produce, bakery/patisserie, deli, meat, prepared foods) When I'm craving sushi, in a pinch I'll stop by Wegmans. I love their tuna tataki bowl. The only negative comment I have about some of their smaller stores (usually the ones inside city-limits Eg: Amherst St. in Buffalo) is that they try to cram in all of the products/departments they carry in their biggest stores, which leads to some serious shopping cart gridlock and major frustration when you're getting out of work and just want to grab a couple things and go home. Other than that--I will sing Wegmans praises until I die. Yes, Wegmans has a ton of variety, but you have to endure loads of visual cacophony from everything you don't want as well as tons of walking in a store with institutional lighting. For me, the Lexington Real Foods Co-op (provided I buy in season and on sale), Aldi's (which now carries all sorts of organic products including some fresh fruits and veggies), and Guercio's are far superior for a great, human shopping experience. Last but not least, I like a mix of options. If no one supports smaller merchants we will end up wth a boring landscape of big box stores; and, paradoxically, fewer options. read more

I love Wegmans as much as the next person -- it was one of the things at the top of every homesickness list I had when I lived away from Buffalo -- but this location leaves something to be desired. This store is big and busy, which is to be expected, but you would think with the high turnover that produce would be higher quality. I've had issues with moldy fruit and vegetables several times now, mostly with packaged berries or the family pack of bell peppers, where I arrive home and discover little furry grossness. The stuff that comes home okay frequently spoils within a day or two, which is quick for fresh produce. I also have noticed lately that when you walk into the store and past the berry display it has a moldy smell, like water left sitting out too long in a warm room. Yuck. You'd be crazy to get meat here when there are several great butchers within spitting distance, but in a pinch I've not had any issues with it. Cheese has been hit or miss -- sometimes I'll get something home that was great the week before and find that it has a spoiled-odor the day after purchase. Consistency is a consistent issue (see what I did there?). Overall this is my default if I need a bunch of things quickly, particularly grocery items. Otherwise, I'd rather hit up Trader Joe's or the Co-op, especially for perishables. Pretty sure once Whole Foods and the new co-op on Hertel open I won't be patronizing this Wegman's anymore. read more
