My first private session wasn't too impressive, the teacher had pretty heavy accent, and she didn't care to explain what certain postures have effects on me and it just wasn't good. I changed my instructor for my second private session, and what a difference! My instructor, Regina, was very enthusiastic. She explained all postures, and for the ones that I couldn't do it in the perfect form, she helped me adjust. I didn't think my body would be sore after the class, but it is. So even though it seemed to be easy, it's not. The only reason I'm not giving it a 5 star is due to price. I wanted to stick to private sessions because I can see myself not sticking to the form during group classes, which would defy the purpose of taking classes. But when I looked online, it's $90 per session! And that's not "senior" instructors either. I can use that one session's money and get another gym membership with my corporate discount. Decisions, decisions. Luckily they extended the same pricing offer as what's in Giltcity coupon, which lowered it to about $50 per session. I think I will take that for another 5 sessions. Then go back to my normal gym life...

When you walk in, the decorum and gorgeous chandelier grab your attention. The staff at the front desk are super friendly, professional and helpful. I was immediately given a tour of the gym. This gym is incredibly spacious. They have lots of machines for every body part. All brand new as well! The locker rooms are gorgeous! Lots of mirrors (all over the gym actually) and the lighting is perfect for those selfie addicts(like myself). They offer cryotherapy! I love cryo!! So good for you!! It's extremely cold, but you do get used to it! Definitely recommend giving it a try! The dim lighting, and awesome upbeat music, make this place perfect to workout in. I felt so much motivation when I was there. Also, people don't bother you when you workout, and you are never waiting for a machine which is such a plus! The trainers are wonderful as well. Everyone is built like a god! I knew I was at home being around like Minded people. I met Tony one of the trainers who is super nice and knowledgeable. Tukki signed me up. She was wonderful! You'll need to purchase hand wraps (which you may keep for future classes) for the boxing portion of the class. This is an instructor led class. Sometimes hard to hear over the loud music, but I liked that the instructor walks around in case you have questions. Expect to sweat a lot! Check in at the desk and head downstairs to the studio. You might be greeted by the owners two dogs that wander around the place. The locker rooms have showers and changing areas. They also have a hair dryer, spray deodorant, hair ties, razors - basically everything you'll need to refresh after a tough workout! I spent about three and a half months at The Pack taking 3-4 classes a week. First off, the…read moreclasses are some of the most expensive in the city ($42 for drop in although you can get them a little cheaper with a membership or class pack). You rotate through weight lifting at the benches, boxing with a bob (a rubber fake man that moves a bit when you punch him), and the assault bikes. Except for the bob, the workout wasn't anything I couldn't do on my own at the gym and very rarely when I finished did I feel like I'd taken a "killer class" like I do at some other studios. I didn't feel there was enough core work for a 50 minute class and also I'm a horrible boxer and while there were general instructions, I didn't feel like I got enough individual pointers. Despite the fact that the Pack has been open nearly a year, the choice of classes was a bit limited. A number of classes are already listed in the schedule as "waitlisted" and are never truly open for signups. Typically around 6 classes a day are available (3 -4 on the weekends) but sometimes a class doesn't get enough people and is cancelled last minute. This was almost always true for the sculpt classes that may have offered more core work. It may look at first like the classes are almost full because they only open the benches first and if those spots fill, then they open the bob spots and finally the bikes. Pretty much the only classes that run regularly are those taught by cofounder, co-owner, and lead instructor Noah. At first I liked Noah's classes, but as I took more classes, it became very clear that Noah didn't value me as a client. The tag line at The Pack is "Everybody has a purpose at the Pack" which is meant to inspire community, but I came to realize that my only purpose as far as Noah was concerned was to give him my money. I was looking for a community and probably would have taken more classes if I'd felt a part of one, but while the other instructors were supportive of me, Noah was not and constantly made me feel unwelcome. Apparently Noah has ADHD. So do I. Except that I don't talk about it all the time the way that Noah does. It's fine to talk about it a lot if that's your thing, but I found it very off putting that Noah would often speak as if his experience represented everyone's with respect to ADHD. The Pack has challenges every so often where you can earn rewards. I love challenges and did the one in spring where I was supposed to receive three free classes and a pair of gloves for completing 12 classes. I did get the free classes but I never got the gloves. An email said something about the gloves still being manufactured but after two months I still hadn't gotten them and it was very disappointing to not receive the entire prize that I was promised. There is also a run club at The Pack, but it excludes slower runners. Although I am a competitive runner, I didn't feel this attitude was appropriate. Everyone has to start somewhere. The one time I did stay with a slower runner, she thanked me profusely for staying with her and making her feel included. Even though this person was one of The Pack's more regular clients, Noah didn't seem to care about actually including her. After that I stopped going to the run club altogether while I was finishing up the class pack that I deeply regretted having bought. After I finally finished all my classes, I promptly left The Pack and moved on to a different studio where the classes are indeed "killer" and the studio owner makes it clear that she respects me and values me.

The studio requires you to bring wear socks, or if you forget to bring a pair, offer some for purchase in the far left of the studio. The space has other merchandise for sale like exercise tops, a restroom for students, hooks and cubbies for storage, mirrors all along one wall and windows letting in a ton of natural light along the other. The windows and mirrors truly make this space gorgeous and relaxing. The class was challenging and called for lots of small movements and holds, but it was exciting as the routine was very dynamic and we moved on from things often. The instructor gave me helpful hands on adjustments and was sweet and motivational. I'd come here again!

While the classes can be challenging, I've found them here to be a mixed bag as far as difficulty…read morelevel. I will say a huge focus at p.volve is technique/form, which I really appreciate. Instructors typically won't hesitate to form correct or assist if you need. Classes involve some unusual equipment including a mat, which takes some getting used to, but I know for some people, this method of exercise works really well for them and I can see that. Try it out for yourself! They usually have good discounts/deals, especially for new students.

I was told to arrive 15 minutes early so the trainer could introduce herself and I assumed walk me through the equipment, ask if I have any injuries or issues, and make sure I understand how to use the equipment. none of this happened. I walked in with everybody else - I might as well have been doing it for the 50th time for all she knew. it's very hard to see or hear the instructor bc it's so dark, loud and crowded in there. The equipment is not self-explanatory. She never checked my form once and as a result, I'm sitting here with a very painful wrist, inner left knee and ankle. Hopefully it's just tendinitis or irritated ligaments, but who knows? they make you sign a liability waiver (I see why, now). All of this could've been avoided if I had just gotten a little attention in the class and been shown some modifications for some of the moves. they really need an all beginners class or reserve spots upfront for beginners. at one point I had two sliders under 1 foot which probably contributed to my injury, but I couldn't tell in the dark whether it was one or two. also the weights you lift are soft wrist and ankle weights, and it was very hard to get a good grip on them. They really should have 3lb dumbbells as well.

After a prolonged period of exercise hibernation due to surgery and work, this fattie decided to…read morethrow herself head first into a new class to get her body together... and that new class happened to be SLT! (yeah at first glance I thought it was spelling something else too... whoops) SLT stands for "Strengthen Lengthen Tone" and focuses on making your body do those tiny quiver and shakes that really activate your slow twitch fibers. This class is great for those of us that need that harder something extra to get our tummy muscles (as well as every last effing muscle strand in our body) stronger and tighter. The teachers know what they're doing and I love that they come around to make sure we are doing proper form to help prevent injury. I am five classes in at this point in time and even though I still suck, I'm starting to notice I suck just a tiny bit little less each time. One of my favorite things about this class is that you can buy packages of classes and you just need to use them up within a certain amount of time. You can make your own schedule (depending on availability) online and their website makes it so easy to book or cancel. With classes maxing out at 11 people in most cases, you will need to plan ahead but it's not that hard at all. All classes for the following month will open up for reservations on the 15th of the month before. For example, for June classes I will have to really be on top of my schedule on May 15th to get the classes I want since they have high traffic. Now I admit, I've never done any kind of specialized Pilates-reformer-thingamajiggy type class before so when I first walked into the studio, I thought I was entering Christian Grey's fun room. I mean, come on... crazy bed-like devices with springs attached and straps for your wrists and ankles?? Whose mind wouldn't go there? Oh... wait... I'm the only one? Alright then, good to know. Too late now. You're thinking it too. And remember, better sore than sorry!

It's definitely different and the inversions are heavenly. It's challenging to mind and body and you will work up a sweat as it incorporates some TRX-style moves and has the opportunity for more advancement in your practice if you want. Fun fact: the studio is owned by twin sister who are former Rockettes and pretty famous in the Pilates community. That's pretty cool!

Being a dancer…read morefor 20+ years and having a lot of reformer experience, I have found it very difficult to find a strong studio and instructor that can work with me in a class setting while other clients might not be as advanced as myself. Emily was able to guide all levels of students in class while making it challenging for each and every one of us, including one client who was pregnant. The studio is beautiful, bright and spacious. Something we don't get in NY. I can't wait to come back and take more classes!!
