I came here on class pass, and fell IN LOVE. I loved it so much, that I signed up!! This place is inside an old church. It used to be the old Limelight club. When you walk in, the decorum and gorgeous chandelier grab your attention. The staff at the front desk are super friendly, professional and helpful. I was immediately given a tour of the gym. This gym is incredibly spacious. They have lots of machines for every body part. All brand new as well! The locker rooms are gorgeous! Lots of mirrors (all over the gym actually) and the lighting is perfect for those selfie addicts(like myself). They offer cryotherapy! I love cryo!! So good for you!! It's extremely cold, but you do get used to it! Definitely recommend giving it a try! The dim lighting, and awesome upbeat music, make this place perfect to workout in. I felt so much motivation when I was there. Also, people don't bother you when you workout, and you are never waiting for a machine which is such a plus! The trainers are wonderful as well. Everyone is built like a god! I knew I was at home being around like Minded people. I met Tony one of the trainers who is super nice and knowledgeable. Tukki signed me up. She was wonderful! She was extremely honest and to the point which is what you want! Everything about this gym gives off good vibes. Signing up was the best decision that I made! Totally worth every penny!! I have been training with Eddie Wunderlich at Limelight Fitness for about 4 months and can not recommend him enough!! I was looking to get back into boxing and had no idea how talented he is!! Not only do I look forward to what creative combo he brings to our sessions, I also look forward to his amazing positive energy. He brings so much light to limelight and pushes me in such a positive and encouraging way. My abs are always on fire when I leave, not just from his work out, but from laughing!! I honestly can't say enough about Eddie and how happy I am with my sessions and results. But losing marks because they had "gym sessions" available tonight (labor day) on classpass, so I booked, and when I got to the gym they were closed. Limelight is one of the coolest spaces for personal training, drop-in work outs (they accept the Pop-In app), and classes. I love the fact that it's a huge gym but feels intimate and unintimidating. There are all types of people working out at Limelight and because of the way the space is laid out, you rarely (really, never) need to wait for piece of equipment or for a spade to open up. The vibe is chill. There's no weird eyeballing when celebs show up or if you're struggling to do three push-ups. The staff is friendly and super helpful. And they leave you alone -- unlike at other gyms where you're constantly being hustled for the upsell. I highly recommend professional fitness trainer Eddie Wunderlich. Damn, he's super-fit and is so inspiring. He is the nicest guy and makes you work so hard! Which is exactly what makes him so wonderful -- he keeps you moving, nothing is ever boring and he makes you *work* for every hour of that training session. I have been working out with him for many months and am feeling better about my strength, fitness goals and having fun while working out. And the results say it all. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. The location, equipment and vibe is all great but the management seems very disorganized... or just doesn't care about non-prospective customers. I've attended a few classes through ClassPass and the instructors were all fantastic. They have a nice variety of class offerings and they're all very challenging. After my first class, I started receiving a number of promotional emails. I responded to one that offered to let me join a class for free but for some reason the email address it came from was not active and I received a bounceback immediately. I called and was directed to someone who said I could come join the class. They asked me to get there early so there'd be time to talk about a membership offer. After speaking with my contact (and politely declining to join), I made my way to the yoga room and was the first person there. No one showed up by the time class was supposed to start, so I went out to check with my contact and she said they're probably just late. The next person came in 5 mins after class was supposed to start and it was another student who said he checked in at the front desk and there should be a class. 15 minutes later, there's still no instructor, so we headed to the front desk only to find out the class was cancelled!!! Apparently no one signed us up or checked us in so the instructor thought there was no one to teach and we were left sitting there waiting. We spoke with the manager on site, left our info, and he said someone would reach out to credit us for a class and take responsibility for the incident. The mixup was somewhat understandable, although a total waste of my time. I thought they handled things fairly until I didn't hear back from anyone for a week. I followed up by writing the manager I had spoken to in person and never received a response from him either. I'm amazed at how many times they can drop the ball. Great gym, great instructors, but a truly disappointing customer experience. read more

Came through class pass for a 30/60/90 class, which I found to be a non stop step class, not what I expected but it was still a good sweat for sure. The facility is beautiful, built in a church, lockers are nice, clean, stocked, and there's a sauna. There's also a gym available which is a plus. I came on a Saturday afternoon when the facility was basically empty so that might have made a difference. Will prob return for a diff type of class .... and the sauna duh! read more

Bought a month Groupon membership. Fell in love with the gym the second I walked in. Knew I was going to join as a full member once my Groupon expired. But membership manager forced me to sit and sign a yearly contract. When I said I didn't want to sign it until my Groupon was over, she became extremely angry and rude. Loved this facility. It's a shame she had to blow the experience for me. Manager never called even after I was told they would twice by the receptionist. Reporting it to Groupon, obviously. My girlfriend and I were excited to join, but we are signing up elsewhere this week - a gym a little more hospitable and welcoming. read more

Lovely Gym, but poor/dishonest business practices. I really liked the setup of this gym, but their salespeople / account managers are extremely deceptive. After locking down a $60 monthly fee, I was charged $89 for two consecutive months until I could finally have the rate that was promised to me. Then, I asked to cancel my membership after my first year ended, and no one got back to me. I had to go to the gym in person to ask for a cancellation, and I was told I would not be charged the following month. And yet, I was charged again for this month, and when I called they just said they would get back to me later. I highly recommend staying away from this gym. The concept is unique, but the dishonesty of management and salespeople truly take away from its value. A real shame. read more

Located in an old church that makes you walk up a million narrow flights of stairs before getting into this tiny chamber type gym. Would not recommend this place to any civil human being read more

The space takes some getting used to. I do enjoy zoning out staring at the stain glass while running. I go during lunch hour thru CP. it's usually empty. There's one annoying girl who thinks it's her personal gym and hogs the entire floor trading from jump roping kettlebells ropes. You can't work in between her sets. Really? Is she Serena Williams. I am disgusted by the incompetence of their management. I signed up for a trainer's membership and then canceled it in August yet they continue to attempt to charge my credit card. They also continue to send me emails regarding payment on this canceled membership despite me having emailed and called them repeatedly telling them to stop doing so. So I just moved from Jersey 2 months ago to Chelsea. I signed up with a guy named Robert. I have paid and several others to start the membership. But the gym is still not open and it has been over a month now. i tried calling nobody answers the phone! I am going to cancel and I tried reaching out to the General manager and he is never around. Amazing space, not used well. -- Too much equipment that isn't used and not enough open space for basics like lunges, stretching, or using all their weights. Would be a much better gym if they just got rid of 20% of the equipment. -- Could be cleaner. If you hit the ground to do push-ups, or the like, you'll notice a lot of dust and dirt. Also, people stash their personal gear all over the gym. (If they just walked around and gathered people's stuff a few times a day so it was more convenient to put things in lockers than come ask the front desk for it, this would stop.) -- Accessories are hard to find. Because the space is big and multi-level accessories such as foam rollers, steps, hand weights, etc. need to be stored in multiple locations - with designated wall storage so it's not a heap of equipment taking up the minimal floor space. As is you need to walk three flights hoping to stumble upon a floor mat when you want one. -- It can get very toasty - and sometime aromatic - in the part of the gym that are adjacent to Grimaldis pizza. -- Key locker locations seem to permanently be taken and not regularly emptied by management. -- They've turned their few spots for stretching/massage over to some questionable Cryo service. Are Nitrogen tanks even safe and permitted in the gym? The way the gym is over-hyping this service makes you wonder. Are they even set up to comply with all NYC safety precautions for vats of chemicals? The hole thing feels a bit sketchy. -- The music is heavy on techno. I get that you can use headphones and listen to what you want, but if you are working with a trainer, you'll need to endure 20-minute versions of monotonous songs/beats. Update: I spoke with the general manager (recently under new management) the day after I wrote my first review and he assured me that this will never happen again and has taken matters in his hands to make sure this issue is addressed. He stated that there have been practices he has seen that he sees needs changed. His conversation with me felt genuine and he took my feedback very seriously and since then I feel confident that things have and will improved since I reported it. Overall, the gym has a lot of great equipment, kept clean, looks very upscale and I see a lot of neat classes like capoeira and dance classes. read more
