I would always buy my enrichment toys for my rats and rabbit here. The staff has always been friendly and helpful when I've had questions. I recently adopted a puppy, and I was impressed to see that they have a lot of good products in stock such as duck heads, raw hide alternatives, lamb ears etc. They're also one of the only places I have found that carries items for raw feeding. This is one of the pet stores that I always take people to and you can always find at least one thing to buy.

But what really turned me off is that I was going to donate one of my rat litters to them (donate, NOT sell), and when I brought them in the "rat expert" said they had ear mites. Funny, I had never seen any sign of ear mites like excessive scratching or scabbing, but I took them all to see the small animal vet. Of course, there were no ear mites. I had a feeling, and I don't know why, when I walked in the door with them that they weren't going to take them, and I don't know why. They treated me strangely--a little rudely though I called ahead. Whatever the reason, it's too far to drive after confirming just to get told, "Oh, we don't want these." They do have a lot of merchandise, and the employees seem to care for the animals. Just price compare before going and take everything the employees say with a grain of salt.

Consistently they never have anything in stock. Bare shelves everywhere. Asking about out of stock items garners the same response (we're waiting for a truck to deliver) yet the shelves stay bare month after month. I get the feeling they are trying to sell the inventory to close the business or aren't re-ordering due to cash flow problems. Either way it's rather infuriating that so much is never re-stocked. Lastly, the pricing. Again no issues supporting a local business, however this location seems to think the products are worth gold. Many items are priced double what another Ace offers them for. Don't give me the it's rural or remote BS either. 15 minutes down Houghton from I-10 isn't "remote"

I have been visiting West Ajo Feeds for at least 15 years of my life. My mother has been coming…read morehere long before that even, when the amazing Chuck was still here and running the place. My first memories of West Ajo include a purple horse brush that I desperately wanted to purchase so I could groom my horse, Patches. I saved up my allowance for weeks in order to purchase this amazing purple brush. When I got up to the counter, Chuck rang the brush up and, the child that I was, I had not accounted for tax. Embarrassed, I said I didn't have enough -- and I remember Chuck laughing, saying how unfair taxes were, and he told me to take the brush home anyways. I was approximately seven at the time and I'm now 30 and still remember this. This is the kind of feed store this place is. Heart and compassion. Family run. Amazing. West Ajo is a family run business that sells all kinds of different livestock feed with a smile, warmth, and the character that you won't see at chain stores. They don't sell toys and clothes in their store but if you come in asking "What is the best feed for my horse" they're going to be able to help you out. I'd take great advice, knowledge about their products, and the kindness they have over a chain store any day. Their prices are competitive. They have a decent selection. And they'll always be there for you if you have questions, need something, or want to post something on their awesome bulletin board. They also support the community and have donated to 4-H events, to the annual Tucson Poultry Pigeon and Fancy Fowl Show in November, and to many other events. Without family run businesses like these, I would hate to think where we'd be. Definitely stop by and say hello to Vinny and the crew at West Ajo Feed and Supply!

They have a hose in stock. I was told to get a box, pack it , pay to ship it, add a 10.00 personal check to ship the replacement back. That alone is 30.00 including the check and i have to wait to see if accepted SO: On line, 5 minutes in the car lot . There is no phone number on the warranty for the mfg in Massachusetts. Plan B... Overniight, The AP app, $33.00. Be here tomorrow. One star added to Ace for being open. New ownership here, new attitude for clients. They have lost a 30 year client loyalty from me & did not even look up my history. Very Short sighted - Shanna!
