I gave Millie's a five because of her awesome service and my amazing finds. If you are walking…read moredown the streets of downtown Salem, you will come across a window display with modern looks and orange victorian sofa's. You will be greeted by one of the owners a mother, daughter, or her dog. In my first visit, I was greeted by the mother. Usually, I don't like the feel of boutique owners, but on the rare occasion they rub me the right way. She asked us if we needed help in pleasant tones, and then backed off in a polite way. The front of the store is dedicated to new inventory. It consists of brands such as French connection, Ella Moss, and Velvet. The jean selection isn't my favorite since it is small. It does have some winners. Hudson grabs my attention, and Jag for my more curvier mother. The selection of tops range in styles and prices which makes many happy. I only picked up a pair of gray/lavender shorts by French Connection for a sale price of 62 dollars because i'm a college student trying to save money. My mom found a few pairs of size 12/14 Jag jeans of course. Hardest to please was my average/plus-size cousin whose style is more geared towards peasant tops and something not too girly. She didn't find anything to her exact liking so I think that's because of sizing issues as the large sizes is more sparse than medium or small. After we searched the front was the real treat, the back consignment area. Ahhhh...now many people feel that consignment is gross and beneath them. I do not, and find it a perfect solution for my designer cravings and need to save. Granted, you need to search. Like really DIG. for. it. Designers don't just pop out at you cause it's still Salem where consigners bring in Gap and Old Navy. Trust me, they are there. After fingering through a rack packed full of trousers i found Rebecca Taylor traditionally cut brown beautiful pants. They were honestly 25 dollars. Why so cheap? They had a small rip in the seams, which I who has little sewing experience can fix in a jiffy. Can you tell i'm getting excited now? Nothing like a deal. So with a jolt to my shopping battery, and the deal finding bell going off I comb over the back section for more labels. I came away with Seven for All Mankind jeans, Trina Turk top, and BCBG Max Azria trousers. My mother found her some SFAM jeans as well. And my cousin found a dress and J crew sweater to try on. The dressing rooms were nice, good locks, enough hooks, and a mirror. I felt comfortable enough to give a little fashion show of my findings as well did my cousin who can be shy. This is what surprised me the most, the owner was honest. She told my cousin that she shouldn't get the cute dress because it just wasn't her color. Sure it looked good on, but wasn't meant for her. That never happens. Nice AND honest? Hmm. Well my cousin came away w/ the blue J crew sweater as the owner said it went wonderful with her blonde hair. Checking out is always the worst for me. Unnecessary small talk on how what I just bought will go with everything/is soooo cute/will solve all my problems...like they are afraid I will back out or something? We had a full out conversation with the women. And I did not find it awkward. Go figure. She told us how consignment was the way to go. She buys from Georgia. Something funny here and there. And then on my receipt wrote down three or four separate numbers that represent consigners who regularly bring it designer clothes that are my size. She asked me what my shoe size was and found a number for that. Then, told us of a 5 1/2 size shoe number that recently brought several Jimmy Choos and will bring them in. Not my size, but if I could try one on I would make those suckers work! The problem with consignment it appears is that all the "good" stuff gets snatched up quick. So problem solver, the owner told me to call in when I feel like it to see if my "numbers" have brought in new stuff! Jimmy Choo is awaiting my call. Do you think they will mind my 6 1/2- 7 foot? MAKE IT WORK. WARNING: As with all consignments, purses are mine zones. The shop may not know exactly what they are buying and can inadvertently sell you a fake. I saw a "Chanel" bag that felt amazing, but i'm really skeptical on its authenticity. Know your designers is all I can say.
