Much like the Monty Python bit, I can imagine this mall saying, "I'm not dead yet."…read more I've seen some dying malls, and the Galleria is holding it together remarkably well. Sure, there may be some vacancies. Yes, the food court is a bit sparse. And indeed, that was a dollar store you just passed. All the same, on a recent visit, my kids were delighted by a round of glow golf while I went off to do some shopping for presents. I was able to get everything I needed, before they were done. Add a hot pretzel to the mix, and you've got a perfectly fine mall experience. It may not be fancy, but it still gets the job done.

The ring road as of my visit is in poor condition, but repairs were occurring in several areas. Lots of parking, but watch for potholes. This mall is two stories and was built by Zamias, so internally it looks magnificent. It's very much a 1990's mall with its coloring and design, but that only helps it. Mall only has two occupied anchors, Boscov's and JCPenney. The former Bon-Ton and Sears remain vacant. Unfortunately, the interior is largely vacant with many empty storefronts, including several occupied ones not being open. Other problems included all four escalators being shut off, and the mall in general feeling dark. Rare Collectibles was probably the most interesting store I found, having various comic books and retro toys. One positive included the food court being almost full, along with other full-service restaurants being available as dining options. The Johnstown Galleria's new owner has a tough battle ahead to save this mall, and I don't know if he will succeed despite this mall looking so magnificent. I wish him luck.

The Johnstown location is the closest to me and I really wish they would move into Westmoreland County so I did have to drive so far. The service, like anywhere, is affected by low staffing. There are centralized sales desks to check out, but most only have one employee staffing it. Still, they are apologetic for your wait time and are very courteous and efficient. As far as selection, there is so much to look at, I almost always come home spending more than I planned. The shoe department is especially good. So is the handbag department. Actually every department I have shopped has had a good assortment and I can find things I want. They also have a Clearance center with REALLY low prices on the second floor.

After 6 weeks passed with no update, we waited another 6 weeks. At that point, we received a phone call apologizing for the "bad news" and were told it would be another 4 weeks. Concerned, I stopped by the store and spoke with a different sales associate. I asked if the 4-week timeline could be guaranteed, and she told me it could not -- in fact, she said it would likely be longer than that. This directly contradicted what we had just been told over the phone. At this point, we are nearly four months in with no clear or reliable delivery timeline. The lack of transparency and inconsistent communication has been extremely disappointing. I would strongly caution others about purchasing furniture from this store if it requires warehouse delivery, as the estimated timelines do not appear to be accurate or dependable.

Once the…read moreGalleria opened up and a majority of the stores vacated for the new and shiny, Richland Mall was doomed. After the mall shuttered, it sat there for a bit before everything on the property had left. Once tore down, the shopping center sprung up. Home to national chain big box stores, it brought business back to this area. Some stores have been retained since the beginning. Others have either went bankrupt and closed or just switched up their names a bit, or downsized their store footprint. Doesn't matter either way, this center, or plaza, has remained busy. What is funny now, the stores that had vacated for the Gallery have started to come back to the old Richland Mall land. Several of the mall stores have now vacated the Galleria for their full circle moment return to this parcel. This place can be busy and you will need to keep your wits about you when you are trying to make your way from store to store. Think strip mall on steroids. Multiple entrances and exits. They seem to be in the midst of revamping some area and possibly adding my store in the surrounding area.

Parking right in front of each store is a breeze and I love in and out shopping when the need calls for it. I also love the fact that a Five Guys Burger and Fries is amongst this collection of shops. The centre caters to the needs of the local Johnstown folks with stores like Ross, Payless, Bed Bath and Beyond, Famous Footware, TJ Maxx, the Dress Barn, Petco, Dollar Tree ( still have no clue how they make money), Michael's, Fashion Bug and so much more. The Galleria put the Richland Mall out of business and now the Richland Town Centre is just taking some back. One back road will lead you to and from both the mall and the centre, which makes for a sweet shopping and dining out day.

That is if you like to look through products to find what you might need. As the name of this business is called, Rare Collectibles, this is like an antique store for every single collectible item you can think of. It can take a few times to go over this place with ease. There are so many items to look at that you will most definitely have missed an item on a prior visit. There are aisles, cases, and displays everywhere, all filed in no particular order. Take your time while here. There is no rush to make it through this store. There are a lot of local items here as well, so if you are looking for a local themed item, definitely come here.

You see, I occasionally make calls to see if they changed their minds on their Baseball card policy (they only accept cards from the 1960s or earlier) but they haven't and won't anytime soon, fine, understandable. But then I thought of selling these Power Rangers trading cards, they don't accept those either, OK, that's cool. But here's the real kicker, I called them to see if they can take old video games, specifically ones for the Sega Genesis, and someone, I don't know if it was the owner or an employee, but someone on the phone "yes", so I go up there and I didn't have any high expectations or anything, I wasn't expecting a million dollars but I was expecting something, I go in, and he tells me, they don't take Genesis games. What. The. Hell. How do you just go back on your word like that? I don't know a lot about business, but with stores like this, I think your supposed to keep your word on these kind a things, not just change your mind out of left field. So yeah, after this experience, I can safely say I'm done with this store. And I hope this makes all of you change your mind about it too.
