They don't have many new or licensed products so don't come looking for Pokemon, Barbie, etc.. I mean, where else can you see and handle toys locally? Not just toys: hobby items such as remote controlled cars and trains all the way down to modeling elements and kits. Also has an exhaustive board game aisle, as much lego as you want, role-playing books, puzzles, etc. In short, a large and well stocked place! The staff seems quite interested and knowledgeable. Nobody hovers over you. Toy city is ok but the reason I gave it 3 stars is because it literally has toy horses for like 20 dollars which is so good for them but not for us to me why not just go to target or something new. what I am saying is it is to much money for some people. read more

Keene has a mask mandate at this point, requiring all businesses, including their staff members and customers to wear masks within the store. I have been religious to wear one in all businesses, even outside the mandate timeline. Arrived at 10am (when they open) sign says "Closed". Walked to the door at 10:04am, door locked, employee comes to unlock the door, not wearing a mask. I shop, go to the counter, owner and staff member not wearing masks behind the counter. The staff member serves me and only then dons a plastic shield (not approved by the CDC, nor meeting city's guidelines). So essentially, we are not going to abide by the mandate, we will contaminate the air for those who care and don't care, and then add insult to injury - you don a mask so you won't get the virus from me? Are you kidding me? Needless to say, my money will sadly go to online sales. You want to say FU to the customer? We will have the last laugh when you go out of business. I recently spotted this location and bought a model to build with my nephew. I walked in and was impressed by what they have in a small retail space of just under 5000 feet or so. I was greeted by an older gentleman, that I take to be the owner. I asked if he had models and he said yes we do! They had an entire isle of pastic model cars, planes ships and military. They also had science fiction/fantasy models that are assocated with games and movies. I bought a plane type model that was very resonable in price. I checked out and the young lady behind the counter was very nice as well. I highly recommend this small store for location, price and freindly staff. This place looks very unassuming from the outside, and I walked in with zero expectations. (Keep in mind, I am also an adult without any children.) But I was truly pleasantly surprised. This store is filled with really interesting games and toys. The employees were super knowledgeable and were willing to break down and explain every single board game. This is a fantastic little store with Highly knowledgable and very helpful staff. I walked in there looking for a stroller that would work with our infant seat, and spent nearly an hour with the staff going through their selection of strollers and discussing each one. Ended up purchasing a stroller from them at a cost around what we found them for online. In the past I have also made purchases here for my HO train collection and I am currently having their staff repair an old Nitro RC car that I had when I was a kid that has sat around for over 15 years. I cannot pen how great this local store is for customer excellence. Steve is on top of how important community, local services are. My niece had a special stroller she wanted and had found it on line. I prefer to support local and love his store. Went down and showed him what I wanted with a price. Excellent selection of toys, games, and child/baby things. They have a focus on items that will/should be well made and so many items will be more expensive than competitors. It's also disappointing that they don't do the comic books anymore (they were screwed over by their landlord who took in a competing store a few doors down), but I'm glad to see their business hasn't suffered that much. read more

I was passing through town for the day and needed an umbrella stroller. I stopped in at toy city and asked the guy at the front desk if they had any. He responded "sir, we only sell products we know our customers will like. We don't sell junk. There is a wall mart down the road they sell low class stuff." The guy was rude, not helpful, and down right pretentious. I go through Keene six times a year from NY and I will never go back to toy city again. read more

Maybe you're too cool for school and want to sneer at the survivors of the Wal-mart/Target invasion and brand the employees as Simpsons characters. If so, you should probably pack up the snotty frat boy attitude and go somewhere else. Being a small independent toy store, especially with commercial neighbors like Target and Walmart, is tough. Keeping inventory is expensive, especially when box stores have economies of scale way beyond what a single store can get. Toy City used to be on Main Street. Then as that declined, they moved to a street where you could see Main Street if you squinted hard enough. Then as that declined, they left that and are now in a corner strip mall on a dead end road. It's actually amazing that they're still around, and I'm thrilled the place that awed me as a little kid is able to give the same thrill to my daughter as we go through the aisles. read more

This is a great little hobby / baby stuff store! They are sooo friendly every time we go in. Very kid friendly and always something cool to look at in there. Seriously, if you're looking for cheap plastic "made in China" garbage sold by a horrible chain with horrible business practices & horrible staff & horrible selection, by all means, go to Wal-Mart or Target where everything is consistently horrible.] If you're looking for nice, knowledgable staff, a great selection of all sorts of books, toys, trains, games, come here! Best selection of "Melissa & Doug" stuff I've ever seen. They have classic toys like the Fischer Price popcorn popper which I haven't seen in 25+ years since I was a kid & I've been to at least half a dozen great locally owned toy stores around the state at one time or another. They sell the "hobby" type of trains, electric on a metal track, not really toys for your 3 year old to bang around, this is quality stuff (although they do have a chunky train in the back with the toddler stuff that's meant for toddlers). They sell the Charm-Its charms at the register which is fun. We were there around Christmas & they had several different kinds of ornaments with names on them. They have a really fun selection of board games, stuff I've never seen before. Definitely one of my favorite toy stores! Highly recommend! read more

Great toy store and a great staff! We have been going here for years with our 3 boys and they have a huge inventory and a big selection of what I would call adult toys such as model rr, drones, RC cars and more. What inspired me to write this is the owner Steve. Always has a smile, is always eager to help, and is clearly a great guy. My oldest son spent his summer savings buying himself and his 2 other brothers toys and Steve gave him an extra gift for doing so. 5 stars isn't enough for Toy City! read more

I would like to recommend this store as they are a long term local business but the service is rude and unfriendly. If you catch the owner or are looking for some creative toys and equipment for toddlers you'll probably be okay. However, if you are shopping for any of the boardgames, comics, models or collectables you should go elsewhere. The other two staff members who work there are the worst kind of rude snobs that turn people off from these hobbies and drive them to the internet. I can't count the number of times they have insinuated that the item I or other family members are interested in is beneath them. If they just sat behind the counter and left you alone without any service it would be better. Their prices are also at list for most things. Don't take your business online as there is a much better store with more of a selection off of Main Street. Save yourself some time and shop local but friendly. read more

I went into toy city today hoping to find a very basic variety of classic comic books. Knowing nothing about comic books, the man who worked there came over to help me. After telling him what I was looking for, he proceeded to talk at me for about a half hour about every type of comic book I wasn't looking for. He completely ignored what I had asked for and seemed like he just wanted someone to talk to about the comic books that he liked. Very disappointed. The store seemed like it had some really cool items but I will definitely not be going back. read more

We were first greeted when we walked in and the staff seemed helpful because they asked if we needed helping finding anything, however, then when we replied no thank you we are just looking we got this in return : "well we're closed" so we said oh I'm sorry we didn't know. Only to be told "hence the sign". We left feeling awful. They clearly do not know how to treat a costumer. I would not recommend it! read more

I have been here several times. Last weekend, I rushed in with only a half hour to spare before my daughter's basketball game ( I don't live nearby and only stop in when I am close). I told the owner that I was looking for a game for $25 or under for a ten-year-old girl (I'm finishing up my Christmas shopping). He asked me a few questions, verified her age, and together we zipped to the game aisle (oh, the games! so many games on those shelves!). He pulled down two games, described them, and I made my decision. I had asked about another game, but he told me she was probably too young for it. I paid and left, happy to support this local business and grateful to have received such excellent customer service. I don't get that kind of treatment from the box stores. I am familiar with other customers' experiences of the condescending, super chatty employee who may or may not still work there, but I will still highly recommend this store for its wide selection, its knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly owner, and the customer service that is so now so rare. Please seek out this hidden gem and help to keep it alive! P.S. As for price-I ordered a voice changer toy online for my niece, and I saw it for $2.00 less at Toy City. That'll teach me. read more
