I used to go to the Town Tavern regularly before 2000. I always loved their Cajun wings. The Town Tavern had won numerous awards for their wings "back in the day". Then I moved to Arizona. I have never found a wing sauce thatI liked as much as theirs, since I had not been back to North Eastern Pennsylvania in many years! I have to admit, Buffalo Wings are my favorite food! I would ask for them as a last meal if it ever came to it. I was back to visit family and the Town Tavern was on my "must go" list. I saw some mixed reviews and I didn't know what to expect after 22 years. They did not disappoint! Ashley was our server (and bartender) and she couldn't have been nicer to the three "strangers" who showed up in her dining room. She told me they still had the Cajun wings I loved so much. My husband had the assistance of Justin, one of the cooks, who helped him pick out a wing sauce that was just how he liked it. I actually decided on the Cajun Garlic sauce. My sister decided on a Hot Parmesan sauce. The wings came out hot, crispy and loaded with plenty of sauce. I would highly recommend the Town Tavern for wings and also the Italian Grinder which went home to my brother-in-law. My sister is definitely planning on visiting the Town Tavern in the future and introduce the delicious food that they offer. Went tonight (5/10) and left very disappointed. My wife and I were frequent customers for a few years, but noticed overall decline following COVID which many places have. Tonights visit was the worst. There were not many people in the establishment (which was a far cry from our visits in years past), yet getting the initial service at the bar was much longer than it should have been. We placed our order and waited a good 45 min for 2 Salads and Wings. Again, not more than a few costumers there. It's off my "Go To" list of places in this area. Quality of food was OK. 10 year customer! My family and myself have been coming here since as long as I can remember. We usually order the mild garlic wings with celery and blue cheese. The wings are always good but for some odd reason the celery is always an obstacle. Sometimes you get celery sometimes you don't. When you get celery sometimes it comes packaged nicely outside the hot wings and sometimes its packaged inside the wings. This time was a little overboard. I opened the foam container up to find the cold "fresh" celery scattered all around the hot wings. Making the celery hot, soggy and anything but tasty. This is totally unexceptable in my eyes. I know this isnt the entire places fault. More than likely just a young punk kid working in the back throughing things together because that's how he/she was raised to not pay attention to detail. If done to enough customers this place could lose a lot of business. So what I am trying to say is if you are a fellow Yelper and customer make sure you reiterate and double check your order if you intend on doing business with this place. So disappointing. This place is not what it used to be. It used to be known for great wings. We recently ordered takeout and we were truly disappointed. Called to order takeout- an item we wanted wasn't available. Waited the quoted hour for food to be ready. Arrived to learn that another item we ordered wasn't available. While waiting for the bartender to get the takeout, I was passed by two other workers. The workers did not even bother asking if I needed help. Place used to be good. Food has been not great lately. They added casino games which is so tacky. The owners come in here and there but don't associate with anyone other than what seem to be their friends. Was there on a Saturday and the bartender was very slow. This review is only for the WINGS Once I saw how many flavors they offer I was a little worried. My order: 20 Hot Wings Extra Crispy What I got: 20 MASSIVE Wings UNDER COOKED The sauce was thin, flavorless, and sparse. These wings were so huge and gnarly! They seemed to be flash fried. I knew I was in trouble when they came out only 5 mins after ordering them extra crispy. The meat would not pull off the bone and kept getting stuck in my teeth from trying to rip it away form the huge bone. If you like a medium to small size wing cooked good and crispy avoid this place. I do want to say this. I was here once with a friend at the bar and they ordered wings. They looked good and crispy and not JUMBO. This is why I went back here to try them for myself. With that being said maybe it was just an off night? They would have had to cook those wings for about 28 mins to get them even close to something I would eat. They were just so huge. The place is small for dining with just a few tables in the back but has a nice size bar area. Inside is very clean and nicely decorated. The best part about this place is by FAR the wings!! They have a dozen or more different flavor sauces, the wings are big and cooked perfectly! I'm not sure about service at the bar but the girl who works the floor is very good. Town tavern. Is a great little local secret in Pennsylvania. I have drove past this place about 20 times. One day a co worker suggested it fir lunch. I ended up going after work with a co worker. Parking was a pain in the neck. The parking lot is super small and I almost had a hummer back into me. TT doesn't have a big sign out front but I heard they have award winning wings. I had to try them. They are right down the road from our second location in PA. When I went inside it was packed with really friendly locals. The bar was shaped funny. Seating was all in the back and you sat your self. But they had 1 waitress on duty. They have a great selection of wings and really cheap. It was $12 for 20 wings. In NY that is unheard of your lucky if you pay $1 a wing on a good night. I got the spicy BBQ and my co worker got the 20 BBQ garlic. They were really good better than any chain wings I have had. And the best by far in PA I have had. The prices are super cheap. It's a old School attitude offering good food done right for cheap. We got rum and cokes they were good. I was not a local but they def respected me and that was nice. I will defiantly be back here my next trip in. Well I had onions and mushrooms on it....... Whatever but seems high! Get there 10 minutes later than what time they told me it would be ready. This place is doesn't look like much from the outside but the food is what counts here on Yelp. The wings are what this place is known for and they didn't disappoint. Top 3 in the area if not thee best. Crispy and the meat fell of the bone. They also have a nice chunk of meat on them. I've been to too many places and they are tiny. Try the Hot Ranch, delicious. We also had the cheesesteak which is always spot on and generous portions. I can't wait to go back to try a different sauce but may go back and get that Hot Ranch. :-) read more

Born and raised just down the road from the tavern, it's a great place. Their wing sauce is delicious, and for those not looking to eat fried chicken drowned in DELICIOUS sauce, try the fruit and nut salad with the yogurt balsamic dressing, that's really good too. They are well known for their wings; they have a couple dozen flavor combinations of their wing sauces. (Mild, garlic, parmesan, honey, etc.) I don't know, I guess they're ok. If you look at the wings and think about what you're tasting you can probably figure out their secret sauces...it's not that complicated, really. I will say that I do like their burgers, cheesesteaks, fries, etc...and they are the only bar or restaurant where I actually PREFER the boneless wings. Co-workers and I have gotten take-out from here twice now, and have agreed not to order again. The first time, they all got wings and I got a wrap (not a big wing fan to begin with). No one was overly impressed with the wings and my wrap was mediocre at best. Nothing had much flavor and is room temperature even though our office is only a few blocks away. We were willing to give it a second shot, so this time around I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and seasoned fries with cheese. The burger tasted (and looked) like it came from the frozen section at the grocery store. The bacon had no flavor, either (never knew bacon could be flavor-less!). My girlfriend and I were headed to the airport nearby but wanted to get something to eat first. Outside of the place didn't look that inviting. Once inside we were greeted by many friendly people. It was easy to tell that it was a local bar but they welcomed us like we were a regular. Girlfriend ordered a salad I ordered a sandwich both were gigantic and a great bang for the buck. Decent amount of choices on taps of beer. Numerous TVs inside the bar with each one showing a different sporting event. Bartender was very friendly and very talkative. The next time we fly out of Scranton airport we guarantee were stopping there it's going to be our regular stop. This is a very good local bar. I love the vibe and the good food that they put out. Definitely the kind if place where I could plant myself for multiple hours. Maybe the second best wings in the valley next to Mickey Gannon's... Certainly more variety in the wing menu and general menu as well. I think my brother and I have come to a consensus that the wings are better are Gannon's, but the fries are better at Town Tavern. read more
