Town Crier is a small, yet has a warm and cozy feel. It has a wide selection of beers, some of which are very intriguing (like a $22 Belgian beer for example) . Although I'm not a beer drinker myself, I had myself a fine cabernet sauvignon. The food selection is quite small in my opinion. I had some kind of sausage with mashed potatoes, which tasted average. If you're looking for a cozy, after-work pub bar with lots of beer but don't mind the somewhat pricey food and drinks, Town Crier would ideal. Otherwise you're better off a Fox and Fiddle or even Jack Astors. read more

What a lovely little pub! It was a rainy, dreary day in Toronto, and I really wanted to find a cozy spot to enjoy my lunch. Enter Town Crier. I had a pint and a salad. (The sandwiches and entrees looked great, like really good pub fare, but I had been eating so many carbs lately, my body really just craved a salad.) So a salad I had- a hearty one with chicken, ham, some really tasty cheese, and fabulous greens tossed in a vinaigrette made from one of the many beers they offer here. I sat at the bar, had great service, and really enjoyed my time here. Friendly staff. Great service. Good lunch. read more

Their small patio has some Europe vibes and is pretty cozy and intimate which could be a good or bad thing during covid. Ordered the burger and fries - burger was meh but fries were good. Large portion. This place doesn't have the best social distancing measures (server not wearing mask properly, still using cloth napkins and regular menus, tables are not 6ft apart). read more

Town Crier appears to be an English style pub. I came here to continue some drinking with my buddies while visiting Toronto. They have a broad and thorough menu of beer varieties from an eclectic amount of countries, my favorite being Belgium and German style beers; they have both on draft and bottled beers that you probably won't see too frequently. Prices are reasonable, as most beers come in a half liter or large goblet. They also sell pub food. Would definitely come back to sample some rare and/or drinkable beers. The venue tries to emulate an English pub. There are older style arm chairs, small round tables, and dimly lit chandeliers. Service is friendly and knowledgable about beer. Ordered Hacker-Pschorr Hefe Weisse wheat beer - Light drinkable beer, pretty basic. Mildly malty and fruity with a crispy finish. read more

The beer scene has heated up in Toronto lately with a lot of spots focusing on hard to find beers. I was looking forward to my visit here as I was very impressed by their beer list online (Belgian beers rock). We arrived here before the mad rush of after office hours and grabbed a spot on the patio. Nice cozy place with a huge umbrella providing cover from the sun. After going through the menu Marcedsous Triple in a bottle caught my eye as it is hard to find. My friend ordered the same thing. Just to munch on something we ordered some Belgian Fries as well. I decided to check out the interior seating as well and it is nicely done. The beer arrived promptly and were served in the proper glass. The fries took their time. Fries are average and nothing special. Hey its a beer spot so as long as they have a decent beer list I can live with that. For the next round I went for a La Trappe Quad and my friend tried Delirium Tremens on my recommendation. Both were on draft which is very kewl IMO. I wouldn't mind coming here if I am in the area and will try their food next time. 4 Solid stars for the beer selection as its even better than Beer Bistro IMO. read more

Town Crier Pub - Beer & fries - Pubs Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

Great selection of German, Belgian and British brews. The bartender was relatively knowledgeable and served the beers properly and in fancy specialty glasses. It was here where I had my first Grimbergen Double. An incredibly rich and malty Belgian with great aroma and flavour. Menu has the typical bar fixinngs with the addition of few German and Belgian inspired foods. Apprently a scoop of mayo make your fries FRITES. I was doing this at McDonalds beofre it was cool. The patio is fantastic but inside is cramped and loud. read more

Came back to try the food with a party of 4 people [ 3.5/5 ] CHARCUTERIE PLATE 3/5 (German salami, smoked farmer's sausage, Westphalian ham, Brie cheese, Edam cheese, potato salad, pretzels and hot German mustard) I loved the cheese! I'm not usually a big fan of cheese plates but this one was pretty good :) The pretzels were yummy too. BELLMAN'S SAUSAGES 3.5/5 (German sausages served with mashed potatoes) There were 3 different kinds of sausages - all of which we liked. Mash potato paired well with the sausages because they were more on the salty end. PORK SCHNITZEL 3.5/5 (served with Belgian frites and topped with a mushroom cream sauce) Nom nom! We came here mainly to try their schnitzels - not disappointed! Could add more sauce to it though - It's the sauce boss talking. read more

-Dark, cosy atmosphere - I absolutely loved it. -The beer selection is phenomenal, but they have other drinks if you're not a fan of beer. Ordered: The potato pancakes which were heavenly. Never eaten something so satisfying. Duck breast with blueberry, I really enjoyed this dish. Flavourful and somewhat tender. Cons: The seating arrangement is a bit odd/small downstairs, if someone is quite obese, person would feel awkward. Would definitely returned. read more

If you want to try different kinds of beer, this place has 50 types something similar to Bier Market. A friend and I ordered Innis & Gunn and Fruli Strawberry beer with some steak. The rib eye steak was okay, but sirloin steak was good. Good decor but found the place too noisy that we had to literally scream and talk. Our server was good and fast service even after the place was packed with people on a Saturday night. read more

Brought the kids all gas we were visiting Toronto and we were so happy to find this just around our hotel and have waiters here that were very accommodating and helpful. We were impressed by the selection of beers offer and we're happy with our lighter German beer we chose. Ordered children serve of homemade lasagna and it was really good, came with a huge side of ceased salad. Both kids shared and it was enough for them. The waiter recommended chicken snitzel.. The snitzel came with a huge serve of fries and just boiled broccoli and carrots. We were not very impressed by it. Fries were oily and sauggy, just boiled vegetables, at least the snitzel was alright. Neighboring tables had a pot of mussels, and it looks sooo much better! Our highlight got to be our entree -- grilled calamari. It was really well cooked and flavor was just spot on! Ambience was really nice, loud,cosy.. But sitting indoor, it would have been nice to have some ventilation or air conditioning.. Being a humid day, it was really hot indoor! That itself causes my only 4star rating read more

The Town Crier is one of my favourite restaurant to go to in Toronto. A unique and interesting place with a great cozy atmosphere. Would give this place 0 stars if I could. I was seated with my boyfriend at a table for two outside. After waiting for about 5 minutes, we received our menus. 10 minutes later, no one came to take out order. We watched the people who were seated ten minutes after us have their orders taken promptly. We watch servers come and go, we wait and wait until we decide to leave. No one says a word. It wasn't particularly busy. There were empt tables everywhere, and servers were everywhere. Just not at our table. We won't be coming back to a pub with such poor service. read more

Town Crier Pub We stumbled into this place after our first two choices were closed, only to realize that I had actually been here previously. Clearly the first time didn't make enough of an impression on me, but I was say that this time did. FOOD: There's a decent selection of Belgian and German food options to match their beer selections. I went with the "Cordon blue schnitzel", on recommendation from the server. It wasn't anything to rave about, but it hit the spot. The star of the show for me was the "Belgian Poutine" - I liked this so much as a side dish that I ate an additional portion of afterward! The other option they have for poutine is the "Indian Poutine," but this one came with delirium tremens miso gravy poured on top of the fries and cheese curds. SERVICE: We had trouble waving our server down a couple of times...that being said, he brought out our food, and made some decent recommendations. ATMOSPHERE: It's a bit dark and cramped for my taste, but the upstairs seating seemed more inviting. VERDICT: A bit on the pricey-side all around, but good place to go for drinks with friends...also to get an unnecessary amount of poutine. read more

This place rocks. I love all their beer options and funky decor. I always like to come here after I eat my favorite arancini ball at Corrado's across the street. Town Crier Pub - Patio + beer = relaxing - Pubs Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

This reminded me of being somewhere in the UK and I couldn't ask for a better place on a beautiful afternoon than their patio. They have a huge beer selection mostly from Europe. Nice selection of beers and a few ciders, which of course is served in an appraise glass to match your order. It's a bit loud and a little bit squished with small tables closely situated. It has an inviting pub atmosphere. We tried the curry worst which was sausage sliced up in a rich, mild but flavourful south Asian sauce. The lamb shank was a generous potion of tender meat that tasted good along with the with potatoes and vegetables, but the beer infused brown gravy was a little bland and I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped. The Belgian waffle with maple syrup and vanilla ice cream was excellent (we asked them to skip the coconut). Service was very good and attentive. I'd go back here, and maybe try the stew, sausage, burger or poutine. read more

Pros: Beautiful space, german food, fun time, great beer, amazing customer service, great location ----- Cons: very few vegan or vegetarian options, very crowded ----- Summary: I like this place a lot and had a lot of fun, I would say as some who doesn't eat pork or beef this is not the best place for me. That said I did eat beef and pork at the time of going here and felt pressured to choose beef or pork due to it being the item that heavily dominates the menu. My meal was fantastic though, and i had a grand ol' time with my friend. The wait staff were fantastic and had great customer service. I would say mind the crowds and dress lightly so you don't have to fend for space for your things. Otherwise, really fun! I would go again read more

HEAR YE! HEAR YE! THERE IS EXCELLENT BEER TO BE HAS AT THIS LITTLE PUB CONVENIENTLY LOCATED IN THE DOWNTOWN CORE! I recently came here as part of a Saturday night pub crawl and this place did not disappoint. It was really busy but our fairly large group was able to find scattered seating until we eventually took over the bar. This place has a really good beer menu with beer from all over the world; however the crown jewel of this place has to be the extensive list of Belgian beers. I indulged in 3 beers on this stop, I had an Urthel Hop-it which was a very nice Belgian strong ale, a Grimbergen Dubbel which was a very malty Belgian brown ale and last was the Morte Subite which was a surprisingly good raspberry lambic (I highly recommend this one if you want something different, or do not usually like beer). The pricing of the draughts was very reasonable, the 3 pints I had set me back around $20. In addition to the extensive draft list they do have a bottle menu consisting of mostly Belgian beers. The place itself was quite warm and had a cozy feel. It is a decent sized bar but is not overly huge. The service was quick and attentive and it seemed like the staff knew their beers quite well. I did not look at their food menu so I cannot speak to this aspect of the business. Overall I will definitely be back to the Town Crier especially if I am in the mood for some Belgian Ales. read more

It's a great thing about to happen. *3.5 stars The Town Crier is off to a decent start: - 50 beers on tap - An ever-improving staff - A solid menu that has yet to disappoint This is a German pub, so don't order the burger for the love of meat! Get the pork knuckle, the spatzele or even the currywurst, ask the bartender to recommend a beer and you'll be in European heaven. It's a big space, both inside and out: two floors of seating inside and a John St-sized, west-facing patio in front, so don't be afraid to bring along friends, just save me a spot on the patio. I've been three times and each visit has been better, so I'd overlook some of the harsh, early reviews and give it a chance. Worst-case, you'll end up with a full belly, an aching liver and a farmer tan. read more

How do you spell relief from a stupid weekend shift and the apparent Rapture that didn't happen? P-A-T-I-O. Came here with a friend, who's been frequenting the place - and the 50-beer selection - since it recently opened. The patio's a bit small, so on a wonderful day like today, it was packed. But it's better than being indoors, which seems kind of dark inside. Our server was great. I hadn't been there before, so he asked what kind of beer I was looking for and offered me samples to try. And I'm a bit of a girly-girl when it comes to beers, and wanted something light, so I picked a half-pint of the Stiegl Radler. YUM! Highly recommended. I also had the Town Crier burger on a whole wheat bun. Very satisfying. And the whole meal was totally wallet-friendly. Between the food and the service, I give it two thumbs up. A good start to what I hope is the beginning of my summer-long patio crawl. read more

I went to the town crier with some friends a couple days ago and was pleasantly surprised! Draft selection is great. I had the boneshaker which was awesome and a Belgian abbeybeer grimbergen. This certainly wasn't our first time at the Town Crier. It was a hot spot for us in the summer months for drinks on the patio with friends. Today though, we wanted lunch and a few great beers, so we swung by. 50+ beers on tap, all priced at around $6.95 works for us! Also, they do a good job accommodating 6-8 of us and our bartender/server friends when we pop in between shifts. The Crier is 2 levels, with bars on both. The atmosphere could not be cozier and warmer (it was absolutely freezing outside so this was our refuge). We headed upstairs as we normally do and ordered 2 pints. Bronwyn got a Palm, and I tried one of the newer Belgium beers (the name of which escapes me, it was an 8% unfiltered wheat beer). To start, Bronwyn ordered the Belgian onion soup. It was possibly the best onion soup ever. Cheese sealed the bowl in copious amounts (warm and gooey) and the broth itself was fantastic, loaded with onion flavour and a salty finish. The soup also had the traditional onions and bread within it. For entrées, I went with a 10 oz. rib eye steak (I was feeling blindly carnivorous, not adventurous) cooked to blue. The steak came served with seasonal vegetables and frites (which were quite delicious, very thin and tasty). While the steak was seasoned simply (salt and pepper only it seemed) and quite tasty, it was cooked much closer to rare as opposed to blue. However, I'm never surprised when this happens, and the steak was still good. Bronwyn ordered the spatzele gratin, which is basically a German comfort food similar to mac & cheese. This too was excellent, sparing nothing when it came to the amount of onion and garlic within the dish. It was in the appetizer section, but the serving size was generous and she was completely stuffed with a few bites left. All in all, a very successful lunch. Service was good as always, and (my favourite part) the bill was also modest as per usual. 62 dollars and change for our meal and 3 beers. The Town Crier never fails to impress, we'll be back soon. read more

The Town Crier is a great little pub near John and Richmond that has a massive amount of beers on tap. Sister establishment to The Village Idiot and Sin & Redemption, you can expect pretty much the same atmosphere and extensive beer selection, along with decent pub food (think Belgian frites, German sausage and your regular pub staples). During the Summer months, the patio is always full here and the service is reasonably fast. There is also a large seating area upstairs, if the main floor is empty. As I mentioned, there are a ton of different beers available on tap (50 at last count) including some hard-to-find options. The menu is a bit bewildering so feel free to ask your server for their recommendations. Overall, an excellent choice for an after work or evening drink with a bite to eat. The prices are pretty reasonable too, which is hard to find in this area. read more

Good drink selection. I always get the strawberry beer. Cheesecake is also delicious.

Great beer selection, decent to great food, much improved staff. I usually come here for my fix for delicious German/Belgian beers on tap. They have a large tap menu, and a great bottled beer menu (but you have to ask for it!). The beer has been great, although I did get a pretty sour Delirium Tremens once. I assume it was at the end of the keg. Aside from that hiccup, it's been great. For food, their maple-glazed shortrib was fantastic. Their spatzel and blueberry duck, not so much. Stick to their heavier meals like stews and lambs, because they do them well. Their fries are really good, too. The rest should be ignored. As for the staff, at first they were kind of stand-offish and not terribly knowledgeable. They're now well-seasoned and the ones I've had lately have been extremely nice. Great improvement. This place fills up fast, so get there ASAP! read more

I came to this place yesterday night. I like this place because they have many different beers to try. You can pick many beer some times it is confusing and they beer you pick you might not like.
