Love this spot for casual drinks/snacks. Mozzarella sticks were good but a very small portion. We also had the calamari, which surprisingly was cooked very well (often times calamari at pubs is majorly overcooked). It's your no-frills neighbourhood pub--nothing fancy, nothing special, just decent beers and decent grub. The fish 'n chips were actually pretty good, as was the slider trio. But I'd probably skip the chicken schnitzel next time. I prefer a more Hungarian style schnitzel like you get at Country Style on Bloor or Europe Bar on Bathurst. But it's all good. The big bonus here is the cute front patio, now with extended street patio (seasonal only, obvs) and the really big bonus is the LIVE MUSIC, which is super rare in these parts. The "New" Abbot Pub has the same menu as the "Old" Abbot Pub, so I know there will be a few beers on tap I would enjoy. Love the setting here a lot better than the location on Yonge as the bar area is more spacious and the dining are has a nice fireplace so warm and cozy. The lighting is a lot better too as my photos will turn out ok. The bartender is friendly and he offered me some home made potato chips to go with my beer. I guess I am happy as long as people feeding me? The only compliant maybe the beers are not serve in their own glassware.. I just love to drink my Weihenstephan in its own glass. I will definitely be back for a drink when I am in the area. Green P parking right at the back or free parking in the residential area which is just a short walk away. read more

Celebration time for a friend's 50th birthday at this local midtown British pub. It happens there is another birthday here as well; someone's 40th. The music is powered by a D.J. and it was loud and rock'in. It's a great atmosphere for a Saturday night! Servers are friendly. The hockey game was in progress on two large screens at the bar. We were a party of 10 last wknd on a rainy Sunday. Service is a bit slow considering there was only 2 other tables. But ! We were all catching up so it didn't bother us. The robot server or whatever you call it is gimmicky, kids probably like it. The food was really good. Those chefs have a very small space to pumped it out and they do it quite well. . I had the smoke trout salad. Great dish if u are watching calories. Would of liked a bit more dressing, but that's personal taste. The French fries I nabbed of others were amazing , we all said the best we've ever had. Most of my group had eggs Benedict (many variations) and they loved it. My sister in law had Cobb Salad (I tasted it) I will order that next time. The atmosphere is cozy with the fireplace roaring, perfect for the damp rainy day we were having. Everything fresh, great ingredients. Price point a bit high but food cost so much right now. Would recommend to groups, lots of options on the menu. Will return. It was pretty quiet here on a Saturday night despite the fact they had a hockey game on their TV. The place was kind of romantic and quaint. I was only here for the food as I had to drive later that night. I ordered the shepherd's pie which was made with actual ground lamb meat. I think I might have burned my tongue eating this since it was so frigging hot when it came out and it actually stayed hot throughout my meal. It came with a few baguette slices and a very tasty creamy coleslaw. The shepherd's pie was well seasoned and had lots of flavour. My friends got the beef vindaloo and meat loaf. Both entrees looked amazing and they said that they enjoyed their food. I think I might have to go out of my way to come to this pub. Have visited this rustic vibed pub on Eglinton a couple times. The place is cozy without being too dark, and the servers were friendly. Admittedly the food is decent, but both times I've been their I've had overcooked food. Brisket Grilled Cheese on special was thin in the meat department, and the bread was super dry and burnt in some areas. The burger I had the second time was better prepared, but both times I felt the side of fries were over cooked. Came here for a work social and I had a great time. It's in a residential area so you see a lot of locals (who are maybe regulars?) here. The service was excellent; our server was able to remember the orders of twenty people including which credit card was theirs. The Abbot was also quite accommodating to our group; we were a large group and they moved tables so that we would all sit in a circle (great for conversation). It was around nine when I came here so I already had dinner, but would love to try out their meals here. The menu looks pretty good. The drink menu is quite extensive with heaps of beers on tap. I wasn't in the mood for a beer so just ended up getting a glass of Riesling. There are a couple of television screens so it's a good place to go on game nights. Have been here a couple of times, and usually like the warm atmosphere (Fireplace in the back, booths) and decent food. Last night we walked in for a late-ish (8:30pm) dinner and were met with weird stares and some chatter from the bar - apparently there was a party coming in "soon" and they wanted to ensure that we didn't take their table. The service continued surly (our waitress was curt, and we found ourselves working it to get her to smile), and also slow. I used to frequent the Abbot pub on Yonge (south of York Mills). It wasn't until we were supposed to meet friends there one night, that we ended up at the Eg West location. Friends went there by accident, so we joined them there. I have not been back to the Yonge location and I'll tell you why: the folks at the Eg West location are so nice, which....is a lot different from the cranksters at the Yonge location. The food at the Abott is consistently good. They elevate the regular pub food, so that things are just delicious and not boring. I love the burger, the chicken sandwich and the chicken pot pie. The specials are my favorite - there is always something interesting and tasty. The sticky toffee pudding is the best I've ever had. Great place to take kids too - which is a huge reason why I keep going back. read more

Although originally coming here for the Winterlicious '15 menu, we opted for the regular menu instead. We ordered chicken pot pie, steak and chips, and mussels to share. My chicken pot pie was alright, but it lacked a sort of zing and flavour to it, so it tasted a bit bland. I was told the steak was about the same thing but the fries were done well. The mussels were cooked with white wine and tomatoes which did the mussels well. The mussels themselves were small, but we didn't mind as the portion size was reasonable. I'm not sure if the mussels were part of a daily special or something like that, as it wasn't on their menu but written on a chalkboard. Overall, the atmosphere, as well as the charming and friendly bartender made our dinner enjoyable (and also to the fact that we were seated by the booths and away from the family diners). Really solid pub! Came in with a group of 10 and had beers ordered right away, and brought back within just a couple minutes. Having a background in the service industry, I know how large groups can be complicated, but Adam and Dan absolutely killed it. There was never a point where we were looking for our server, or needed an item. They were always there. Adam rhymed off the beer menu for us, and gave a couple suggestions. Took our food order and got everything out to us perfectly. Separate bills? No problem! Figured everything out and got us paid and out right when we needed to go. Dan mentioned that during football season they have a happy hour, and invited us back for another Monday night! I stopped by this afternoon with a Yelp friend to enjoy a pint or two. I prefer this location vs. The Abbot on Yonge street. The bar area is not as crowded, not as dark, they have a cool fireplace in the middle of the dining room and has a real cozy atmosphere. I felt comfortable drinking here. It wasn't very busy on a Sunday afternoon. They beer selection on tap might be limited but there is enough variety that everyone can find something they like. Options included some Mill Street selections, Heineken, Guinness, King Vienna and my personal preference ... Weihenstephan. Pints are in $6-$8 range. Service was good. I was offered a refill as soon as I finished my first pint - I happily accepted. I didn't get a chance to try the food but they had some interesting options on the menu that I will try on my next visit. Today's special was roast beef. On the down side, free parking can be difficult to find but there is a Green P lot in the back if you want to pay. Unlike the Yonge location, they use generic glasses for all the beers. Bonus.... they have home made potato chips that are really good. A great overall experience. I will return when I'm back in the area for sure. BK read more

It was our first visit to The Abbot and we enjoyed our experience 99.9% of the time. Food was excellent, the room appealing, service efficient. Our only derog would be that the woman who waited our table seemed a little stand offish and when jokingly asked if the fish & chips came with mushy peas was repremanded "This is not that kid of pub", chillllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll. The food was fantastic. I ordered the soup of the day (Mulligatawny) with steak and salad. The steak was perfectly grilled and the maple vinaigrette was not too oily with the perfect amount of sweetness. We were there for my wife's birthday and they don't have cake on the menu (birthday type cake anyway) so they graciously allowed me to bring in a cake that I had bought down the street at Phipp's Bakery. The staff kindly kept it in the fridge out back, took it out when we were about 10 mins from being ready for dessert, and brought it out to the table with candles lit and dessert plates. Came here initially for a couple of late night beers which was good, service and atmosphere were both good. Came back in the afternoon the next day with the kids and friends for brunch. Apparently the brunch is amazing but unfortunately no brunch was available. I wish we could have come later for the prime rib dinner. I had the steak and fries. Wanted the steak a bit thicker cut like posted on the photo reviews and thought it was just going to be another flat grilled steak you get with eggs at most places but actually it was very good, even if I asked for it to be cooked medium rare and got it medium well. Fries were great and the previous review starting the wings were good is spot on, probably my favorite thing that I ate. Fish and chips was good but I'm not a big beer batter person, there seemed to be a bit too much batter for my wife but I liked it. Friends had the burger and lake trout salad both were just ok not outstanding. Like most pubs if it's deep fried you're 90% there. Service was awesome and would be #1 reason to go back. We basically had the entire dinning area to ourselves. Our server was super nice and very attentive. Fresh food- their wings are terrific and under-stated on their menu; the salads are creative, and there are five daily specials. Chicken pot pie is just okay Great drink list with at least 12 different wines by the glass and another 12 by the bottle. Reasonably varied craft beer selection. It has two distinct sitting areas, a bar, and a dining room. Both are great. Dining room has a fake fireplace, and the bar has two flat screens. In summer there is also a patio to seat 3-4 tables, but the proximity to busy Eglinton doesn't hold much appeal. What sets this place apart is their crowd. Drawn back by friendly and engaging bar-staff, this place has a following of rabid Jays fans who are welcoming to newcomers and create a festive atmosphere in the true Public House tradition. read more

Mediocre food but plenty of attitude and complete disrespect to customers and setting a great example for children. I thoroughly enjoy a great weekend brunch and have been a big fan of the Abbot Pub for many years starting with the Yonge location but my last couple of visits at the Eglinton location definitely noticed some attitude from a middle aged lady who I believe is the manager of The Abbott Pub on Eglinton. My wife, 10 month old baby and I as well as another couple with two children got the brunt of maybe the worse customer service experience we have ever had in Toronto. As we were seated and tended to by a waitress who was very friendly and accommodating because she is obviously aware this is a child friendly establishment as about 70 percent of the restaurant was full of children my wife pulled out an adhesive placemat for our daughter which she has used in many restaurants and never had an issue with, all of sudden the manager came running over and said "remove the placemat right now as it will destroy our varnished tables, your baby can't use that" my wife was in a state of shock and explained that we use the placemats at restaurants and at our friends homes on a regular basis and it would not cause any damage to the table as this is what the manufacturer labeled on the packaging of the placemat. The manager then had explosive outburst by raising her hands in the air and stated that if we were to use the placemat and it caused any damage that we would be paying to the damages caused to the table. Before my wife could say anything the manager stormed off. If you have a chance to dine at Abbot Pub in the near future check out the pristine tables which are not brand new and have several marks, dents and scratches to begin with. In regards to the food: $14 for hueveos rancheros with a side of 1 strawberry, 1 piece of melon a slice of orange and large side of attitude I think I'll pass on the Abbott Pub in the future. On a side note the manager knew she was at fault after my wife had to confront her in private away from our table that she compensated us with a $14 food credit, as much as this was appreciated if It was just my wife, baby and I dining we would have walked out of the Abbot the minute we encountered her disgusting behavior since we were with another couple it wasn't an option. We won't be going back to the Abbott again that's for sure and if you plan to come with your children you might want to go to a more friendly establishment in the area. read more

It was our first visit to The Abbot. The ambience is very nice: warm, cozy and the gas fireplace adds a lot. It needs some background music. The food looks impressive, but not seasoned or spiced enough. I ordered Chicken Tikka Massala, which looked very nice in the bowl, but wasn't spiced at all. My husband ordered beef burger, and we both kept adding salt to our dishes, in order to add some "life" to them. We might come back in the future, to try other dishes. read more
