BEWARE! The repair shop here scams. My truck failed inspection here so I hired the repair shop to do the work required to pass inspection. A month later and I got my truck back damaged, and in worse condition than when I dropped it off. 1) The front bumper had a deep scratch and dent that looked like a tool fell on it. They denied it happened there. I asked for video footage or a screen capture of when I dropped the truck off showing that it was damaged. They gave me the run around about saying they would show me the video then eventually said they weren't going to show me. I asked for their insurance information to file a claim, they said no. 2) They claimed to have installed a new rack and pinion. If they did, it was installed incorrectly, now the wheels were over steering and causing the tire to rub a sharp corner of the frame. I couldn't even pull it out of parking without it making a crunching sound. How did this pass inspection??? This could have only passed inspection if the inspector completely ignored the fact that the steering was completely messed up. They denied that it was their fault. They said I needed new tires. Another 2 weeks of running around and after showing them that the steering wheel turned 1 1/2 turns to the right and 3 1/2 turns to the left they admitted it was their fault. Two days later they refused to fix the problem. Told me to get out of their shop. I wish I read the Yelp reviews before going to this place. Its a local shop in the center of town. But they are scammers and crooks. I have no idea how my truck came out worse yet passed the inspection? If you went here, have you vehicle double checked by someone else. Know that if you confront them about damages to the vehicle, they will DELAY, DEFLECT then DENY. And the front desk guy will keep saying he needs to wait on the owner who is never available. read more

Not being from this area I just put in gas stations to find what was nearby and ended up here. I wasn't worried as I needed gas anyway. This place was rather busy when I pulled in, but I was still able to pull right up to a pump. But what was off putting was what happened next. I got out of my car, walked around to the pump and swiped my card. Most places deduct cents after swiping, but not here. The price per gallon went up after I swiped my bank card. Was this because I was from out of state? Was this because of a last minute price change? Or was this because you just thought I wouldn't notice? I visited here because I had a groupon for an oil change. It was my fault for not reading the fine print but they only covered 4 quarts of oil. Anyway, the guy was nice, although, he did mention that the shop isn't making money on the groupon so the boss wasn't too happy on that. I had to pay an extra $19 for my quart of oil and some taxes. The service was fast but I would not go back there for service. read more

Crooks - and not savvy ones. A few months ago, we had them change the oil on one of our vehicles. Today, we took the same vehicle back for its next oil change. They said we needed a new oil pan - that they would replace for $700(!!!) - because, they said, whoever had changed the oil the last time had stripped the threads in the oil pan for the oil pan plug and simply jammed a random plastic stopper in where the plug goes, to keep the oil from pouring out of the pan. When we pointed out to them THEY had last changed the oil on the vehicle - and therefore THEY must have destroyed the oil pan - they immediately denied any responsibility and, even more troubling, refused to look up the vehicle in their computer system. After we left, we checked on the cost of replacing the oil pan - assuming it even needs a new oil pan. The part new is only $100 and labor and materials shouldn't be more than another $150-$200. The $700 they quoted would have been a HUGE RIP-OFF. Needless to say, we'll NEVER use this service station again and recommend others STAY AWAY. Once we get the oil pan replaced elsewhere - if that's really needed - we'll be filing a claim in small claims court against this service station for the cost of the damage they caused. WHAT WE EXPERIENCED TODAY IS VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT FRANCA B REPORTED IN HER 1/3/17 REVIEW. PS - This Exxon station at 200 N Washington St is no longer named "Hickman's Exxon." This is my regular gas station, mostly due to proximity. The pricing is good, the pumps were redone in the past year and there is an air machine for tires. They sell drinks and small snack items outside, there is no inside store. On the downside there is no car wash (which I am always hoping for at a gas station), I don't think there is a public bathroom and on more than one occasion I have had to wake up the individual asleep in the booth. I'll keep coming back but only because it is convenient for my route and the price is okay. read more

I stopped by the Hickman gas station to put air in my tires, thinking I was going to do it by myself. In fact, a nearby gas station wouldn't even give me change for a dollar to use the air machine. Hickman really understands customer service. Much to my surprise, as I pulled up to the air pump, Bill Donnelly from Hickman asked if he could help. Wow, that's a novel idea! Of course, I accepted. When Bill was putting air in my tires, he discovered a broken steel belt in three of the four tires. Not only is it dangerous, but if Bill hadn't offered to put the air in my tires, I would have never known there was a problem and I likely would have had a blowout while driving. I just moved to MD and it has been incredibly frustrated trying to figure out how to get my vehicle registered. The staff went above and beyond to help me figure out the steps, starting with a safety inspection. (I'm that annoying customer that needs all the details and they treated me so kindly!) They gave me the name of a local business that does titles and tags and made sure to preface that it was a little more expensive than going straight to the DMV. They also made sure to mention that I would need my title and receipt of sale. We needed a bit of work on our car to pass the safety test. The prices were reasonable; it was nice to see from the reviews that the prices were spot-on compared to other places. The mechanics fit me in as a walk-in and finished repairs on my car same day and then allowed me to pick up my car and pay after hours at the gas station kiosk. So far, this place has earned my trust! read more

There are some honest people in this world, and today I met one of them--Rene at Town Center Exxon. I brought my car in after jump-starting it, having drained the battery by leaving an interior light on all night. I fully expected that I'd be buying a new battery. Instead, Rene turned the engine on and off several times, and told me that the battery was fine, that I should just charge it more by driving the car around for a while. I'll definitely be back when the car does need service. Kudos to Rene! read more

Took my Honda in for a starter issue and a bum tire. Same-day service (walked in a little after 10am, had my car by 5pm). The shop charged me 40% less than what the dealer would have charged me. They even followed-up via text to make sure everything was going well. I will be returning when the next issue turns up. Awesome folks. read more

Town Center Exxon bought out good old Hickmans sometime in 2016, so I thought nothing of taking my '06 Chrysler Sebring there for its Routine oil change, as usual, very convenient to work. Next day left for 2-wk vacation, returning to find a square-yard puddle of oil on the garage floor. Took it immediately to a station near my house who diagnosed that the oil pan plug had been screwed back in misaligned, hence the slow leak. Figuring Town Center owned the situation, took it back the next day. They claimed the plug was stripped due to years of service. So I asked why did you return it to me like that if you knew that when you serviced it? Silence. Ok what will it take to fix it? $400 new pan and seating plus $400 labor. I left, seeking another opinion. So I asked a guy who knows a guy with a great auto repair reputation--Glens auto BTW -- who agreed with the guy near my house that the plug had indeed been replaced misaligned. Fixed it for $73. Feel free to draw your own conclusions. Can't give 0 stars. read more

I had a simple flat tire today and they spent only a minute of simplest work and they charged me $35 for that, everywhere else charges 15 dollars. Biggest thieves I have ever seen, if they charge this much for a mere flat tire, how much else would they charge for a major repair????? read more

I've used this station for service in the past and try to use it regularly for fill-ups. Recently, however, I stopped to fill up and saw signs on the pumps that if you pay by credit, you must see the cashier. You can't use the card swipe at the pumps. When I showed my card to the cashier, he released the pump, but the gas would only pump at a rate of one gallon every few minutes. After I went back to the cashier, he said the pumps were empty. There was no sign on the pumps stating that they were empty. I asked to see the manager, but he was off the premises. The mechanic in the garage didn't know where he was or when he would return. After paying about $2.00 for gas that took over five minutes to pump, the manager returned. I told him the pumps were empty and other customers were also frustrated waiting. His response in a belligerent tone was, "The pumps can never be empty." Well, it sure looked like it to me and the other customers. He advised me to leave and go to the another service station, which I did. read more

First, this shop is under new ownership and you should ignore all reviews prior to June 2016 as they no longer apply. I have had simple work done on my car previously at Hickman's as it is close to work, simple tasks never had a problem. There is a "Hickman's" sign still hanging outside and while the new owners made no attempt to tell me it is under new ownership they are. I recently took my car in to get an oil change and asked them to charge my AC as it was feeling weak, still worked but was weak. I dropped the car off first thing in the morning, they agreed to do the oil change and charge the AC. When I picked the car up in the evening and paid the cashier I saw that they did not charge me for the AC work. I talked to a guy in the parking lot and he indicated to me that they did not charge me for it because they did not have the equipment (So I got not call or explanation while they worked on my car, and would not have got any feedback if I didn't track down the guy in the parking lot). I get in the car and the AC did not work at all, blew hot air, and may as well have had the heat on. After a week of absolutely no AC I took the car to another shop thinking that the Exxon emptied the refrigerant and that all I would need is another charge. The new mechanic tested the system and found that they condenser was not working correctly, when he got it out of the car it was clear to him that the damaged by previous work on the car "somebody over pressurized the system" was his quote. So instead of Exxon just telling me they could not do they work, they tried, failed and cost me a lot of money. When asked what they did, they denied everything. Finally, the receipts that they provided me are generic, non-specific, they do not list the type of work, what oil they used etc. After my experience, I feel that this is not a coincidence. read more

I DO NOT recommend taking your car for service here!!!! A few years ago, had a problem with left rear suspension on my previous car, they replaced right items.........ON THE RIGHT SIDE. Took it back, and front counter guy is very nice, fixed left side at no extra cost. Recently took my current car in for rough idle, picked it up, after a dramatic story of what the repair entailed, and car had same rough idle! Brought it back, front counter guy, again very nice, told me I was supposed to drive it about 50 miles to clear injectors of solvents used to clean them....but he didn't tell me that when I picked car up!!!!! And THEY are supposed to do that. Picked it up the next day running fine, finally, no extra cost, yet mechanics did not re-install plastic engine cover, and severed two of the 4 bolts that hold the cover. Went back to have it installed, picked it up the next day, mechanics did not even remove and replace the two severed bolts; they simply re-installed using the two remaining good bolts. I stopped in (AGAIN!) and showed front counter guy, very apologetic, said I could leave it to have the severed bolts removed/install good bolts, I declined, had my main mechanic fix it. Why I even went back after the first experience, I can't explain, and that's my fault. BUT NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!! I tell my friends to buy gas there and keep it moving! read more
