State inspection was said to be $105 all-in for my newly purchased car (in mint condition). Car passed with flying colors BUT when picked up my car, there was an extra $30 tacked onto check the window tint! Surprise!!! There is no sign that says "extra charges may apply when we feel like it!" I called the Liberty owner to ask about why there's an extra charge- Not only was he rude and dismissive, but I WAS TOLD HE WOULD CHANGE MY "PASS" TO A "FAIL" FOR THE CAR, AND TELL THE MVA IT DIDN'T PASS IF I DID NOT PAY HIS EXTRA ADD ON FEE. drove my car to Darnestowne liberty because it leaked water after turning car off. diagnosis was a thermostat housing. After said repairs were done, it still leaked. was advised that it was the water pump and that they were not interested in doing the repairs. They put stop leak in it to temporarily seal the leak. Dumb move as that process only causes more issues. clogged water jackets internally, clogged heater core and radiator. although I drove the car to the shop I was unable to drive it home. broke down twice do to water pouring out. Picture is what it looked like as I finally made it to my parking spot. 780.00 dollars for what? Replaced water pump myself as the car was now totally broke down and had to replace a clogged up radiator. I am sure more damage due to stop leak installed by shop is yet to come. read more

I brought my car in for inspection, which does include a road test. However, it does NOT include getting Neil's Bagels. I contacted the manager, as in most reputable shops a technician would be written up for this kind of behavior. Instead, the manager claimed it was simply a road test and insisted they did nothing wrong. Since this is a civil issue, the police were unable to take action. Any upstanding shop would condemn this behavior, but they stood behind it. Shops like this are the reason I work on my own car. Update: The owner of the store called me to say there was nothing wrong with employees using a customer car for their errands. Unprofessional up to the top. I'd much rather take my car to Toyota Fitzgerald or at least talk with their technicians. read more

I took my 2021 Jeep Wrangler, practically new with very low mileage, to this gas station for a simple state inspection to get my tags. I was shocked to receive a call saying my Jeep had failed the inspection, and they claimed it would cost around $1,400 to fix the issue. Needless to say, I was beyond upset. I've always been wary of gas stations for any kind of repair or maintenance, as they often come across as shady--and this experience only reinforced that belief. The next week, I took my Jeep to a reputable auto shop, where it passed the inspection with no issues whatsoever. This gas station's assessment was completely baseless, and it seems like they were just trying to rip me off. I won't ever return here, not even for gas, and I'd urge others to be cautious if considering this place for any service. If I could give zero stars, I would. Five stars for Darnestown Liberty's honesty and integrity. We started using them only recently and they've seen my wife's 2014 Camry Hybrid twice. When I reported noisy brakes (I was sure it was the wear sensors) they could have recommended replacing brakes on two or all four wheels. Instead, they said they couldn't find a problem, cleaned the brakes of dust, and the problem went away. They only charged a modest "safety inspection" fee. The second issue was electrical - an intermittent starting problem which they couldn't reproduce. The problem subsided and they charged 1/2 an hour of labor for an electrical system inspection. They could have told me anything and "thrown parts at it" but they didn't. Fixing things is easier than earning trust and DL has earned mine. read more

Warning- be very clear about your appointment requests with the mechanic. I recently scheduled, or thought i scheduled an appointment to get my tire patched (a relatively quick job) on saturday at 10:30. I called on a thursday to see if they could do it friday, too busy so we scheduled the saturday appointment. just like everyone else i'm busy and drive into DC everyday so you can imagine with a mechanic shop that's only open 8-5 it's hard to figure out a time that would work. I planned my entire day around that appointment. good morning saturday! when my partner brought my car in they didn't have my appointment down. it must've disappeared. that kind of stuff happens all the time, right? Naturally, I called and spoke to Jonas, the mechanic and apparently the guy I spoke with thursday to make the appointment. There was a miss communication and he gave my appointment to someone else. A simple case of "he said, she said". Apparently Jonas remembers everything and remembers me telling him i'd call him back to confirm the appointment. I remember saying please mark me down for the appointment and gave him my name to reserve it. SO THEN, where does that leave us? DEFINITELY don't expect this place to have any kind of positive customer service experience. no apology, no explanation- everything short of calling me a liar. fun day. read more

AVOID this place! I brought my vehicle here for MD state inspection. My vehicle passed the MD inspection before and had no changes since. They called me only to let me know that I need to pay the full fee plus an additional window tint check fee and the inspection failed because the window tinting in the rear windows was over the limit. The vehicle PASSED the inspection previously and had no issues. So, I am being asked to pay +$110 for a failed service. Could have called me earlier to warn me about it or even do a very quick walk-thru before accepting to work on it. I find the service NOT HONEST and therefore I'd recommend FINDING ANOTHER PLACE! read more

at the last minute i scheduled a safety inspection for our mode of transport. because here in maryland you have to do that. as a new resident of this state, that was something i recently learned. darnestown liberty was fantastic! less than 24 hours after scheduling the appointment, i was dropping my car off and walking to the nearby library to kill time while the inspection was performed. they got my car in immediately, and they were done before i returned. it could not have worked out better. the guy behind the counter (wes?...can't remember) was incredibly friendly and knew everyone who walked through the door. it felt like i was in an episode of "Cheers". he was kind of excited to look over my car, since they don't get too many hybrids (i have a prius v). while i can't speak to their car repairs, i know that based on friendliness and honesty alone, i wouldn't hesitate to bring my car to darnestown liberty. read more

I am very disappointed in Liberty. After spending thousands of dollars on 4 cars, I carefully drove my car with a flat tire to the station. Their air pump was broken. I went inside to ask for help to patch my tire or put on a spare only to be told they were too busy and I'd have to wait 3 days. I think they could've spent 10 minutes on a long term customer. Furthermore, I found after they changed my rotors that they put them on wrong so that the emergency brake would not work. They are the only service station in the area, but have gotten too busy for their britches. read more

My experience with them has been outstanding for a while, time in which we've done regular oil changes, fixing tires and such small issues.. The shock was when I was quoted almost 1500$ for changing the brakes rotors and pads. I got away with paying to get on,y the front done for about 650$. When I went to get my truck back, my truck bed cover was broken and of course it wasn't their fault. It ended up being a very expensive repair since I can't seem to find the replacement part to fix the cover myself and I'll have to get a new one... I'll probably keep doing the oil changes and tires there at times, but I have no confidence on having any of my cars major work done at this shop anymore. read more

Recently one of my tires began to lose air (and my car is only a year old). I went to Tires Plus and they looked at my car and couldn't fine a problem. After a few more weeks, I took it to the dealer. They also could not find a problem and suggested that they replace my tire for about $240! Frustrated, I found some internet service that sold "gently used tires" and found the right kind with similar tread depth as my tires. I got the tire and took it to Darnestown Liberty to install. The "internet tire" had a slash in the sidewall, so that didn't work. (the internet company did give me a full refund) I explained my issue to the shop and they found the problem and repaired it for about $20. Exceptional service and outstanding customer care! I went there to change my flat tire. They did it in short time and because I needed a new tire they put on my spare. They advised me to make sure I get a new tire and replace the spare as soon as possible. Although they offer new tires, they wanted to save me money and suggested that I could get the new tire at Cosco and they will be happy to put it on for me. I did all of that but when I left their service I forgot the tire cap. When I realized that my tire had no cap, I thought I lost it when I was driving with the flat tire there. Amazingly, when I went back several days later to get gas, they remembered me and they had saved my tire cap for me. They installed free of charge. I very rarely come across such an exceptional service and customer care. I recommend this place very highly. read more

I always choose low grade gasoline for my car. This morning, I chose the low grade but was charged for the mid-grade gas. I spoke to the clerk for an explanation. He told me it was my fault, not "his fault" because I hit the wrong button. I told him when I saw the usually high price, I looked at the buttons, the 87 button was lit. He then responded, "you are saying it is my fault". I just wanted him to explain to me why the light for 87 grade lit up when it is pumping the mid grade gas. I spoke to the manager. He told me it happened to a lot of customers. It is because the pump hose hit the other button by mistake. My point is that then the mid grade button should lit up to alert me. He responded-- the computer does not do not. Next time don't park to close to the pump. My point-- fix the pump computer, especially when it happened to a lot of customers. I didn't like the way both the manager and clerk talked to me. -- as if I am stupid. They have lost a customer. read more

Incredible new gas station with service bays that was desperately needed in the Kentlands/Gaithersburg area has arrived. Low gas prices has finally arrived to this area and a great service manager and mechanics are here with the best customer service. Ownership even had a grand opening party on November 20th giving away free food and drinks. To cap it off they had a raffle giving away a $250, $100, $75,$50 and $25 master card gift card. Shady business practices in placing holds on credit cards for gas. I understand a hold of 100 but 500 is a little absurd. I spoke with an employee, John, there and was informed that the credit card machine had been worked on and it was placing a 500 hold on credit cards, which was only fixed after I stopped at the station earlier this week. The following day, a manager, Aldo I believe, called me to inform me that AMEX lied to me and that I am a liar as well. Obviously customer service is not this strong suit. John, his employee on the other hand was as helpful as possible during my phone conversation with it. I will not be purchasing gas from there even if they are 20 cents cheaper a gallon than the shell across the street nor will I ever ask them to repair my car. If there manager is a representation of the business I am sure they could care less for my vehicle as long as they overcharge for service. read more

I took my car in to get tires install. No appointment, did it in a matter of a few hours. Really nice and a very fair price. Guy mentioned some type of noise in the rear. I didn't know what he was talking about because it is my wife's car. Drove it home and heard the noise. Asked her and she said it wasn't there before. Called the guy and he did not argue with me and just asked me to bring it in and he would look at it. The shop had already closed but I dropped it off thinking I could get it the next day some time and expecting to have to fix something. He asked his mechanic to stay a little longer and apparently the spring moved when they lifted the car with the jack. He assured me that they did it correctly and he didn't know how it happened. It is an old car so that is why, IMO. He called that day and apologized and said to come and pick it up. Honest, trust worthy, fair, respectful and polite. What more can I say. read more
