Negitoro (ネギトロ) is a popular Japanese sushi topping made from minced raw tuna mixed with green onions. It traditionally combines fatty tuna (toro) scraps scraped from between the bones with green onions (negi), though modern versions often use minced, blended tuna mixed with oils to create a rich, creamy texture. (Google) Totoya is known for its Negitoro. This is the second location on Oahu. The first Totoya is located in Kaimuki. We stumbled upon this Aiea location when we went to the Roast Duck Kitchen. My daughter, who is visiting from CA, wanted roast duck with cake noodles for lunch. Lo and behold, she saw the Totoya sign and changed her mind, when I said ... my treat. Neither of us had tried Totoya. We both heard about the delicious rice bowls topped with Ikura (salmon roe/fish eggs). The restaurant is small in size. There is counter seating and a few tables against the wall. Clean tables and nice wall decor. I did not check if there was a bathroom. Service was attentive and 5 stars. Water jug provided on the table. Our order came out quickly. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. We each ordered a different bowl. See photos. I really enjoyed my maguro lover bowl that was filled with maguro slices that had been seasoned in a shoyu like sauce. Rice was nicely prepared and I highly recommend getting the nori pieces to wrap some rice and maguro into a hand roll to devour! A happy and delicious meal here at Totoya. read more

I had high hope for this place but just thought it was ok. I felt the food was a bit too heavy. But it might be a personal preference thing... since I am not a huge fan of masago. And I felt the fish could have been fresher. Maybe it was an off day? My friends love this establishment and my husband enjoyed the food more than me. After dining at the original location in Kaimuki last year, our friend told us that there are now two additional locations in Ala Moana and Aiea. We loved the kaiseki bowls and had on dining list for this recent visit. We were planning to dine at the Ala Moana location on a Saturday, but it was closed due to the storm. The next day, we were out in the Aiea area, so we stopped by their newest location on the second level in the Aiea Shopping Center. Arriving at 12:15pm, there was only a party of three in front of us. After about 13 minutes wait, the four us were seated at the counter. This location also has two tables for four as well. One friend and I ordered the Miyabi, which as 2 pcs of Tuna, Original Negitoro, Red shrimp. Scallops, Salmon roe, Tobiko over sushi rice and 2 pcs of Nori. Before starting, I used sesame grinder to sprinkle some sesame seeds over the bowl. Then I used the nori to create two handrolls before continuing to eat my Miyabi bowl. All the seafood was so fresh and delicious. You get a bowl of miso soup and I put some Yuzu shichimi in it. It does put a little spice in your soup. Two of my friends had the Rainbow Trio bowl and enjoyed it. The kaisen bowls brought back memories of how good it was the first time. It did not disappoint. Awesome place if you want a piece of Japan. The staff are super friendly and you have to wait a little bit since they do not take reservations but it is worth it! Lunch in Aiea, O'ahu, Hawai'i... This third location of Totoya is the best one because of the parking... LOL! There's FREE covered parking at Aiea Shopping Center! This Totoya is on the same level as McDonald's, and is between Ice Garden and Koa Pancake House. I would recommend coming before opening time to stand in line. I arrived after 11am and the first round of customers were already seated inside of the cozy shop. There was a long line to get in and I waited about an hour for my turn. Luckily, it was overcast... or else I would be sunburnt or soaking wet from the recent downpours. The system was very efficient. While we were waiting in line, the staff handed out menus and took our orders. We were seated in an organized manner where our food was brought promptly! I had ordered the Fukuju which had a tower of scallops, uni, salmon, tobiko, red shrimp, snow crab, tuna, and original negitoro. The bowl included two pieces of nori which i used to make loose handrolls. I appreciated the complimentary bowl of seaweed soup that washed everything down. I did grind some sesame seeds over everything, but I actually didn't need more flavoring because I added on the Ikura Shower for $9.80! That was really fun! Today, Feb 15 is the first day open at Aiea location. There's a sign in sheet and just write your name on the clipboard. They open at 11 am - 2pm for lunch. We came around at 1130 am and got called about 12 noon The food is delicious. Great customer services. And if you get the ikura shower they do a little cheer. So recommend it. Excited that they started lunch on Wednesdays, arrived shortly after 10:30 and they opened at 11am. Love that they're located closer to home (in Aiea next to ice garden) and the space is bigger than Kaimuki and Ala Moana. There's 8 seats at the counter and two tables that seat 4. Ordered the salad, fukuju bowl with miso soup and egg shoyu. The yuzu dressing for the salad and the yuzu ginger were good. Everything was yummy and filling. read more

This location is in a convenient area with enough parking in the second floor of Aiea Shopping Center. I've already been to this location twice and I'm sure I'll be coming back many more times. Their Matsu Negitoro bowls are delicious and very filling, and comes with miso soup, but I subbed with their half size udon. The Matsu has original Negitoro with salmon roe and sea urchin and when mixed, is so so good! Trust me! Do check this place out! read more

Came in at the best time, last seating/call! Didn't realize it but hey, it worked out perfectly. Randomly decided to dine in since it's closer to home now! Love Totoya and have been to all three locations! The server was so helpful in guiding me to the restroom, she walked me all the way to the bathroom. The food is always so oishii, no matter what you end up ordering. To me, I think not adding too much different fish is better...less is more, so that's what I'm ordering the next time! Totoya in Aiea is an incredible experience. They give everyone the opportunity to experience "true chirashi" dons. They don't take reservations and you must wait outside, however, it is definitely worth the wait. I have a previous experience at their Kaimuki location and they are very diligent. They make sure to take your order while you're in line so that you don't wait for your food. The service of the staff is incredible. They walk you through the menu to help you find the best don for you! The quality of the sashimi is unmatched. It's only the best qualities that they serve (if you look at the photos you can tell). They pride themselves on that alone, but their selection is incredible. Going into this restaurant reminds me so much of Japan. They have truly given the atmosphere a touch of the culture you expect. Wow! Totally worth the hype. Fish quality and portions were excellent and in line with the prices being charged. I dont typically like ikura but this time I waa searching for every last one in my bowl. It was so fresh and delicious. Service was excellent. They were very nice and friendly and the food comes out fairly quick. Reminder that it is a smaller restaurant with the intention of people coming, eating and leaving. First time at this location! Staff were very welcoming & friendly! Came right when they opened, so no line. It does get busy around noon. I got the original negitori bowl and my friend got the maguro lover kaisen bowl. Highly recommend side ordering their fresh egg yolk soy sauce. The difference between the two bowls is negitori is minced tuna and kaisen has assorted seafood! You can pick and choose what you want. They're also known for their ikura shower! Got takeout and ordered the Take and the Tokujo bowls. Amazing food, excellent quality, fresh, and delicious. The negitoro was fresh and tasty and the ikura gave a really great pop of flavor. The sushi rice was cooked to perfection topped with tobiko. Comes with a roasted seaweed, a cute little bottle of soy sauce, pickled ginger and seaweed salad, and roasted sesame seeds. They finally have this at the Aiea location. With all the good reviews, I've always wanted to try this place. This place is so delicious . The server was so sweet, and soft spoken. I tried the Toyota's original Matsu comes with miso soup. Lolo me who didn't read the instructions, I just pour the egg on top instead of mixing the egg first. They have ginger on the table you can help yourself. The fresh fish just melts in your mouth along with the Tobiko, so yummy. And they have stamps cards when you collect 10 stamps, you'll get 15$ off your next purchase. I highly recommend for everyone to try this out. read more

I arrived around 12pm, and there was already a line, which was expected. I went inside to put down my phone number and party size down, then waited outside for about 10 minutes. My boyfriend and I decided to sit at a nearby table just outside the shop while we waited. After another 25 minutes, my boyfriend went in to check our place in line. When he came back, he told me they had skipped us, they had even crossed out the phone number below ours. After a couple seconds, they called us. I answered and said hello, the girl on the phone responded, "Hello, wait, hold on..." and then hung up. I actually saw this happen since I was right in front of the store and she just walked away. I waited a few minutes for a call back, but nothing. Meanwhile, a couple parties who were behind us had already been seated. I asked my boyfriend to go back inside and explain the situation. He went inside and told them we had been waiting about an hour, had been skipped, and that they had just called us but hung up immediately. The girl he spoke to didn't seem to care at all and told him to wait another 5-10 minutes. She also said she had called us twice and we didn't answer, which isn't true. It was frustrating, especially since it would've been much better if they had just acknowledged the mistake on their end. At that point, we decided to leave. They didn't call us back in 5-10 minutes as they told us, instead, it took 25 minutes. At 1:25pm, the same girl finally called again. I told her we had already left because of the situation. We waited an hour and 25 minutes, and there was no apology or acknowledgment of what happened. We would've left earlier, but both my boyfriend and I were really looking forward to eating here. It was really disappointing. Unfortunately, between the way their system is handled (which I've heard others complain about as well) and the lack of customer service, the experience was very poor. read more

Okay fine I told him that my Mom can't stand so I will be waiting by the car , the guy said okay I'll call you when you're next! A couple came by and the guy told them they can come in! We were really were looking forward to trying this place but were deeply disappointed before we could even do so. So there's a sign up sheet outside the door. We put our names down on the list and moved to the side and were waiting. More people arrived and signed in on the waiting list. The guys comes outside and starts taking the people closest to the door and doesn't even go off the waiting list. Why is there a waiting list if you're not going to go off of the list? The people who were waiting and moved to the side are all being skipped over! We left because we got skipped twice, I couldn't believe there was a waiting list and they're not even using it.
