They have pierogies and kielbasa on the breakfast menu and I'm sure they were delicious but it was 1pm and we chose the pot roast open face sandwich and mashed potatoes... well it was pretty fabulous. It's hard to argue with old school diner fare. Totin's hits and doesn't miss. The ambience and decor are a throwback to 50s - 70s diner spots, with model cars, vintage advertisements, a traffic light, and various eclectic signage ("Hippies use the side door") that adds to the experience. The lady serving was super nice, and everything I saw looked very clean, so not sure about the other reviews' complaints. My breakfast (the Totin special) was delicious. The English muffit was buttery and crunchy, the bacon crispy, the scrambled eggs were firm yet fluffy, and the shredded potatoes were not greasy (nor was the bacon). Me and my family visited one afternoon and were blown away by our meal, the friendly waitress, and the charming retro interior here. The space is small, but it only adds to the charm. I was driving my mom back to the North Hills from an appointment in Wexford and was hangry because the appointment ran well over an hour late and I didn't have coffee yet lol. The weather is kind of gross and people are driving crazy so I thought, let's grab some food and pulled into the lot. The diner itself is a decent size. They have plenty of booths and tables or you can sit at the counter. I got a coffee and the Little Al. It did not disappoint. The pancake is literally the size of the plate and pretty thick too. The bacon was perfectly cooked. I like mine a little crunchy but not hard as a rock. There's probably a 5lb bag of hash browns on the plate and I ate them all. No regrets. Service was fantastic! Most of the food is prepared right there, to order! Their pancakes are so large, they fill an entire plate! It's a family owned diner, decorated with with the '50's theme! Haven't been back in a while because of illness. Their burgers used to be the best I'd ever eaten! Thick, juicy, topped with cheese and thick bacon. The service was always excellent! One stack of pancakes was 3 huge pancakes. I could barely eat one! Coffee was always brewed to perfection! If nothing has changed and I had a ride, I'd go there every morning! Really wanted to love this old fashioned diner chock full of funky old memorabilia. The server was super nice. But the odd thing....my omelet (the Florentine) had very little flavor - and same goes for the hash browns. My husband got the "Little Al" - which was not little! The service was quick and friendly, and the food was brought out pretty quickly after we placed our orders. I tried the Totin's Combo with scrambled eggs and cheese, sausage, shredded hash browns, and texas toast. I also split a MASSSSSSIVE blueberry pancake with my husband. You should know that you will likely take half your breakfast home because the portions are so huge, which is a win! It tasted great in the moment and tasted great re-heated. I forget the name of the meal I got but it was two eggs with hashbrowns,biscuits, and gravy. The eggs, were, well eggs. Hard to mess up eggs. I feel like good diners are something for which Pittsburgh is in short supply. So when my buddy suggested we have lunch at Totin's Diner, I quickly obliged. This place definitely has the throwback ambience of an old school diner. So points there. And even though there was a small line to be seated, we didn't wait long at all. Everything was clean, albeit showing lots of signs of wear. Regardless , it all added to the charm. I had the pot roast sandwich with fries. Meat was cooked perfectly, really fork tender. Where I dock a couple stars comes down to two things. First, for a diner, I expect in and out service. The menu is small enough that the kitchen should be turning out your order in under 10 minutes. We waited about 20 minutes after ordering. And we didn't order anything off book. Don't get me wrong, in the grand scheme 20 minute is not a long time, but in the diner realm, it sure felt out of the ordinary. That said the bigger issue for me was my whole meal was just way over salted for my taste. I know Pittsburghers like their food saltier, but for me it was bordering on inedible. Even now, an hour later, I still feel the saltiness in my mouth. And it's unfortunate, because it was otherwise a well prepared, home style meal. I may need to give this place a second chance as everyone has an off day depending on who and what is going on in the kitchen. But for now it's three stars. Booths are very comfortable and provided plenty of space. Noise level was minimal even with all tables filled. Cute black, white and red decor with some neat old-fashioned pictures. We both ordered the breakfast with cinnamon French toast, eggs, choice of potatoes, bread and breakfast meat. Very Pittsburgh that pierogies were a potato choice! The French toast was amazing and the star. Thick slice of cinnamon swirl toast, grilled well, perfect compliment to a little butter and syrup. Hash browns were a little light for both of us but still good. Sausage was thick links with a really nice flavor. Looked dry but not at all. Eggs were cooked perfectly for both of us, one over easy and one over medium. Bread was toast for one of us and English muffin for the other. Both well toasted. The two guys in the kitchen were hopping. Very fast service and if the hash browns were a bit darker would have been perfect. The waitress was good but had to ask for a coffee refill. Prices are quite high. With a decent tip, breakfast came to over $40. At $4 a cup for coffee, expected a few refills but only got the one that was asked for. All the condiments were on the table so glad she stopped by to check on us so I could ask for that refill. Probably won't stop again for a casual breakfast. I was lucky that I was dining alone for breakfast that day and was able to snag a stool at the counter. I've left this place numerous times just because the line was too long. They have some really good food at this place. I've tried numerous breakfast and lunch offerings. The portions are huge, but the price matches the serving size. On this last trip I order the Little Al. It had a slice of bacon, a sausage link, home fries and a huge pancake. To that I added a glass of iced tea. My bill was $21. The pancakes are also some of the thickest pancakes I've ever seen. They give you two of them, but one is plenty. Their texas toast is also very thick. The sausage is thick and has kind of a maple flavoring to it. I had a little bit of the kielbasa and it was okay, but a little expensive for really only half of a piece of it. The bacon was okay. When we moved to Wexford, this was one of the first places we dined at. & I was so impressed by the friendliness of the wait staff; they were so welcoming to us & made wonderful suggestions of the area.
