Total Wine is a chain liquor store, but has very competitive prices normally blowing their competition out of the water. This is normally my favorite liquor store in the area due to outstanding customer service and prices. Customer service normally rocks, but today hard to find a team member on the floor. Several tasting stations open and offering a nice sampling of their liquor Saturday afternoons during the holidays is a great time to stop by and browse the aisles, sample some great stuff and get recommendations from the staff. We came here for a few things for a Staycation. They were out of Cookie Dough brand we like but we found everything else. The staff is mostly friendly. This time there was some issues. Not the fault of the employees. Mostly its that there wasn't more help. The lane is picked had to go unlock stuff for the people in checking out. Not sure why the customers waited until then for help or why someone else couldn't get the stuff while the cashier rang up the other items but it caused a long wait. The cashier was not rude but clearly didn't want to be there. My wife in another line had some issues with getting a small/airplane size bottle rung up. So many options! Not enough time! Love the sampling they offer for some beverages and the 3 hour tastings where brand ambassadors come in to provide sampling and awareness for specific brands. Horrible customer service. Whoever the bald guy is in the customer service area, I believe he's a manager, does not need to be in the customer service area if customers are invisible to him. The customer service desk is at the entrance so you are aware of customers walking in and even standing at the desk. Apparently, I was invisible for the two minutes I stood there, waiting for him to acknowledge me. Then when he noticed me, there was no greeting, just a "May I help you?". Even though I had a question, after that I just decided to find what I needed on my own. Boy I shouldn't have done that because after that, he stalked me like a hawk! Pretending to stock things. Very disappointing how this store gatekeeps their inventory. Allocated bottles like EH Taylor are kept in the back and employees power trip on who get "the opportunity to BUY" said bottle. They'll put Buffalo Trace and Weller Special Reserve out on the limit one table to pretend everything is out. Note these are shelf bottles, not Grand Reserve Level allocations. Waste of time. Terrible customer service as employees flat out lie to your face. Their story went from never receiving any bottles to sold the last bottle a few minutes ago and confirming they did receive 4 cases. I received a very nice bottle of scotch as a birthday present. When I went to the store to pick it up I was told that my gift certificate was only valid at a different location that was an hour away. I asked if they could simply transfer the certificate and the manager proceeded to give me a lecture on bootlegging in the state of Texas. This condescending jerk spoke to me as though I was a child. At the end of the day my friend who sent me the gift cancelled the order, received a refund and sent me the bottle through a different provider. Phew! I made a mistake of coming here on Saturday in December; it was so crowded! They had lots of samples and all employees were super helpful in directing customers to find their purchases. I will never shop here again. I have never left a review for anything but after sitting with this for a few days, I decided that I had to share my experience. I've been to this location a few times and had rough interactions with employees and the store manager, Scott. Every time I have walked away trying to give him (and his incredibly rude staff) the benefit of the doubt that maybe it is just an off day but after what I overheard on Friday, I am DONE. This man has continuously talked down to his staff in front of customers, thrown an attitude around because he had to help on the registers, talked down to me, and Friday afternoon I heard him yelling at what I assume was another employee. From what I could hear, it was a one-sided screaming match and Scott was the aggressor. Pathetic! I do not care if they have a great selection or not, Twin Liquors is my new go-to. I absolutely refuse to shop in a store that is run by someone so overtly aggressive. Their customer service has always been abysmal and now I understand why. How can anyone provide good customer service when their manager is egotistical, aggressive, and has no regard for who hears or sees his behavior. Something needs to be done about Scott. read more

Usually have a good time here, and purchase a decent amount. They actually had mutiple bottles of a selection we like so I grabbed 2 (of 6-8 available). I didn't notice any signs showing a limit. In line at the register, about 3rd in line, cashier shouts, "you aren't getting 2 of those". Unclear he was talking to me, he says again, "the EH Taylor. You aren't getting more than 1". So wait for a manager, I explain I've never been told I can't get more than one of a product. He proceeds to tell me he's been a manager there for 8 years and they've always limited "allocated product" to 1 per customer. Now I've bought 2 of these at the same time before, which I tell him that. He response with, "you aren't buying two bottles of EH Taylor today". Maybe I missed a sign, possible, but to have the cashier and an "8 year manager" address a customer with such a loud and poor attitude is problematic. read more

I was immediately greeted by three different employees, and then the first minute of walking in! What a lovely inviting bunch here! I love this store. As soon as I entered I was surrounded by one of my favorite things liquor! They have a wine section that's kind of decorated like Italy or France, they have my favorite section all the great whiskeys from Japanese to made in Texas Rye! They have juices, sodas, and chasers towards the back. Beers IPAs and ciders on the other end and of course, the other liquors in between. Literally anything you're looking for they most likely have here. There's also staff all around the store and they're very helpful asking if you need help finding anything; they have a great recommendations and they know the name and location of anything that you ask for. I stopped in for some whiskey, cognac and moonshine fruit. They didn't have my favorite bourbon, but they did have old smoky peaches and pineapples. Also, got some Dusse & Elijah Craig in place of Buffalo Trace. Upon leaving, they gave me a box that fit all of my liquor individually, signed me up for rewards program, and chatted me up with the most delightful conversation. God I love this place. read more

Today 02/21/2022 at 4:40 PM, I came here because they were the only place I could find that was close to me that was carrying the new truly margarita variety pack. As soon as I walked in there was I would assume a manager because he was dressed in a white collar shirt(other employees had black shirts) He was older Hispanic male with white hair. Anyways we walked right past each other and he did not say a single word to me. Not a "Hey, hi, hello how are you doing" nothing. Twin Liquors is getting my business now. Used to love this place and never had any problems until yesterday - extremely rude, short blonde manager with the smallest amount of power I've ever seen anyone abuse. Was trying to buy a single bottle, spouse of 6 years standing next to me and had forgotten her ID at home. Manager says both IDs are needed. Ok, well, no problem, she'll just go wait in the car. Nope, manager claims that now that she's been in the store and she's seen her, that I am locked out of purchasing, even if I came back into the store alone. She actually looked at me with a straight face and agreed with my assertion that I could just go to another total wine and waste my time driving, instead of just coming back into the store alone later. At this moment, the obese long-haired cashier next to her thought he'd crack a useless remark with attitude: "what do you want us to do, ID people at the door? Cmon" - yes pork chop, I do, if you're going to lock people out of purchasing based on who you already let into the store legally. Checked with a lawyer friend after out of curiosity and confirmed they were full of shit (obviously). Could have pressed the issue with them but on principle I'm not spending another dime here. Great savings on alcohol. Probably the best I've seen. The staff were friendly and assisted me in getting the Hennessy from the the locked glass case. They even provided tasteful suggestions that proved their knowledge of the selection in store. And when I couldn't find the 90 minute IPA I was buying for a friend, they were there to guide me to it. Excellent customer service during the COVID-19 pandemic! I've never purchased alcohol here before, but we were running critically low on supplies during the stay-at-home orders. A friend told me they had curbside at Total Wine & More. I called to confirm there was the ability to have contactless curbside pick up and the person I spoke with was very nice on the phone (even though I assume they are getting an annoying amount of calls during this time). Placing my order online was extremely easy. The UI was intuitive and was not confusing at all. There were a few points where they reminded you not to pick up your order until you received an email (or text if you opt in) to pick up your order. I appreciated the multiple points of clarity. Both times we have ordered (once on a Saturday and once on a Thursday), our order was ready within the hour! Pick up was easy. All you have to do is pull up to the marked, designated spots and send a text to the number on the sign. You have to provide your spot number and name. Once they come out, just hold your ID up to the window. Then they will place your order in your trunk. Easy peasy! The customer service is great the store was really busy today and even with that two employees asked me if I needed help finding anything and they seemed super nice and genuine. The checkout line was pretty long but moved fairly fast. I also loved the wine The employee help me pick out. They occasionally have people out sampling stuff. The lady who helped me asked me a few questions and went straight to work!! She suggested a few wines within my price range and when I got home and tried them ... it was magical. The two wines I bought were called "Butter Knife" and "Buttercream" - these were suggested after she got my description of needs in a wine and boy were they good. If you are a busy person who loves "ship-to-store" and similar services from traditional retail which allow you to spend minimal time performing shopping tasks, check out Total Wine for your next bulk alcohol purchase. A couple of things: 1) At this point in my life, I don't consume a lot of alcohol, so a superstore for adult beverages probably doesn't care about what I think. I'm the only drinker in my household these days, so I don't have much incentive to bring home many adult beverages beyond the bi-weekly six-pack of beer from HEB and the one-off bottle of wine from my neighborhood Twin Liquors as a host gift when joining friends for dinner. If Total Wine (TW) had been in Austin 10 years ago, this would be a very different review, as my lifestyle was a bit more cocktail-focused back then. 2) I prefer to "shop local" whenever possible. In case you haven't heard, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) had a multi-year crusade to ruin Spec's (a Texas-born business) that very much inhibited their growth at the exact same time that TW (an east coast business with stores in 20 states) was ramping up their business in Texas. Now it's not TW's fault that TABC was running amok, but that scenario would normally make it even less likely that I'd give my shopping dollars to an out-of-state newcomer when my home state biz has been so unfairly burdened. TW won me over with one thing: online orders from a massive inventory with no hassle, same day pickup from any store. Spec's only offers this service in a single Houston store - why?!? Twin offers a similar service at all stores in Austin, but they warn it could take 4-6 days to ready your order for pickup, and the inventory they reveal online is simply miniscule. A bonus, TW's online interface for researching any beer, wine, or spirit is extremely user-friendly, allowing you to filter by price range, type, expert ranking, TW customer reviews, and specific store availability. As a data analytics professional, I am very impressed with the sophistication of the TW public sales portal, which quickly had me finding exactly what I was seeking and spending $200+ on an assortment case of Wine Spectator-rated (90 or higher) wines for holiday host gifts.
