I was here on Halloween for the bubbly wine tasting class. I am a regular at Total Wine but it was my first wine class. They are held in the back of the store in acute room that has maps on the wall of the different wine regions. We signed in and there were some cheese and crackers and a few other snacks. We sat down and listened to Tony tell us about the differences between cava, Prosecco and French champagne. I was surprised that we were told we could only sample three of the eight options. They said it was a state of Michigan law. I wanted to try them all! Tony was knowledgeable and had a sense of humor. He presented the information in a understandable way. We first became aware of Total wine and more in Minnesota when my stepson was going through his residency at St Paul and we would visit. We were shocked at the low prices for alcohol in the state of Minnesota absolutely insane low prices and Total Wine was among the lowest so when they opened Total wine in Michigan we just had to check it out of course because Michigan prices are controlled by the Michigan liquor control commission they're not going to be as low as Minnesota's but they are very competitive with everyone else and they've got a huge selection. If you ever visit Minnesota you have to stock up on liquor I mean their prices are 30 to 35% less than Michigan. It's almost as if the people at the liquor control commission in the state of Minnesota and all the liquor store owners are having a big orgy and they're all friends and lovers. But since we're stuck here in Michigan the best we can do is Total Wine and more in Michigan. If you're anywhere close to Ann Arbor and you have not checked this place out yet try it out. The selection is so big that you'll be in there for hours. And one more thing The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I'm telling ya! read more

Rewards app accumulates points for occasionally $5 off non-alcohol items and free wine gift bags. Tons of parking, and in the same strip as Kohl's, Dick's, and Best Buy. It can sometimes feel a little overwhelming with how big it is, and might a little be hard to find something that you're looking for. read more

Went shopping with my 30 year old daughter. Got carded - I've been 21 for 50 years (do the math). Ridiculous. Then they asked my daughter for her ID, which she didn't bother bringing. Something about "policy". So if I'd left her in the car it would be OK? If I had my grandson who is only 14 and doesn't have ID what would they do? Full disclosure--I did all my shopping here online for delivery, which...WHEW. Booze delivery? Yes please! Over the holidays I cleaned up our bar cart and took inventory of what was empty, a bit outdated, etc and made a list of things to replace. I had a coupon for an independent delivery service so on NYE I put in a delivery order to restock us with some gin, vodka, St. Germaine, Aperol, and a few other things including a new cocktail shaker (my previous shaker was a little loose and more than once I flung drink around my kitchen during ashake). Their website is great and made stocking my cart a breeze. I love that they have SUCH a great selection of local beer, wine, and spirits from MI and excitedly added Detroit City Distilling spirits into my cart. We also got a few NA mixers and they had a wide variety of tonic flavors, syrups, bitters, etc. My only complaint is that the shaker I bought was broken. Our delivery service handled the return, which was great, but kind of a bummer that they didn't have more of a shaker selection for such an otherwise well stocked shop. But I definitely will be adding Total Wine into our regular rotation for alcohol needs. The prices are great and you can also arrange for pick up or delivery directly through them, which I'll probably do in the future. But I am excited to get lost in their aisles soon, too! read more

TW&M is not quite the one stop shop it aspires to be. If you are a whiskey fan, welcome to heaven. Seriously, the whiskey section at Total Wine & More is magnificent and deep. The same holds true for lovers of wines from the most popular grape varietals. The selection of Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and the like are impressive. Even "lesser" spirits like Tequila, Vodka, Rum, and such have a significantly broader selection than you will find at your local party store. Once upon a time, that used to be me, but I've moved on to different segments of the beverage world. Perhaps this was a case of expecting too much from a place that touts its selection, but if you are a fine sherry lover, searching for hard to find absinthe, or particularly fond of Gewurtztraminer from the Anderson Valley, you are likely to come up empty handed. On the beer front I was also hoping to see some more representation for Belgium and a broader swath of international options But these things are clearly not included in the sum total. On the plus side, when I was asked to provide my feedback, I shared some of the above thoughts and received personal phone call that this would be communicated with the store's buyers. I will certainly return as TW&M has a good price on the Old Rasputin Imperial Russian Stout four-packs, which is one of my favorites, especially in winter. Definitely it's worth checking out if you are buying your libations from the big box retailer around the corner. However, if you have found yourself a good local wine, spirits, or beer store, with a finely curated selection from smaller producers, there may not be a reason to rush to this new and shiny addition to the marketplace. read more

The name says it all. They are the TOTAL package and have EVERYTHING wine, beer and spirits. They have more selection than anywhere else I have seen. I am always amazed and jealous there isn't a store near where I live. Boo. LIQOUR OR NO LIQOUR? This location sells liquor! Not all Total Wine stores carry liquor, so it's always a bonus when a location is truly the "total" package. My buddy down south asked me to look for a beer called Zombie Dust, which is something that can't be found around us. Sure enough, this place not only stocked it but had loads of 6-packs! I love Cognac and Armagnac. I found an excellent, uncommon bottle to take home as my trip "souvenir". I am looking forward to trying it when we return home. TASTINGS: My family says this location frequently offers wine tastings in the middle of the store which can help you find a wine you like. Bought keg and in when checking out I did not get my $30 deposit for the keg I returned. Upon calling store they told me I had to come back (60mile round trip). They told me to call 1-800 number. Did that and after 20 minutes they said I'd get a gift card which worked for me. 30 days later nothing. I'll take my business elsewhere. Poor customer service at store and corporate. read more

Total Wine advertises that it is the lowest price option and you can shop with confidence you are getting a good deal, but it's just their marketing ploy. They entered market claiming its was the low cost super store honoring Michigan minimum retail price. They no longer honor, like many other locations selling spirits, to sell at the Michigan retail minimum. Instead they will only match the advertised price of a store within five miles of the location. How absurd - five miles is nothing in Michigan. So, unless you are getting something no one else has, buying from your local, small business store that is matching the State minimum retail price will always be the safe bet and you support local businesses. Since most smaller spirit sellers seldom advertise, Total Wine never has to honor its lowest price pledge. Huge inventory, extremely friendly/knowledgeable staff, and good prices. We've gone there for multiple categories of alcoholic beverage: wine, beer (including gluten-free), vodka, bourbon, and some related mixing stuff. They have huge stocks of pretty much any category you want, with a pretty full cross-section of low end to high end, and from my experience the staff on the floor seem to know their stuff. Additionally, I have found that the prices here are in fact better than the smaller mom and pop party stores in town. read more

I have been hearing about this store for a while and have ordered from here. The delivery prices are excellent. I entered the store not knowing that they were about to close in a half hour. The store is pretty large. There are a large variety of wines and liquor selections. It was an overwhelming selection in a short time. I asked the customer service person about the wine selection. Mainly reds with Pinot noir, cabs and merlots. He was pretty knowledgeable. He recommended a few wines at a few price points. It was a good experience and I plan on going back soon. read more

I have been wanting to stop in one of these locations. I have heard nothing but great reviews from family/friends. Finally in the area we had the time to do so. Let me just say WOW! I felt like a kid on Christmas morning. I think we spent an hour there and could have spent more! My husband of all people actually said this was his favorite store and he wanted to move in. What a grand selection of everything. Wine, Beer, Whiskeys, Gins, Vodkas, Cordials. Great place to stop off if you need a quick gift. They even have a nice selection of stemware and a great selection of wine accessories. My hubby picked up some beers and I grabbed some liqueurs I have been looking for. Shocked they actually didn't have one of the items on my list but I guess you can't have everything. I was able to sample a few wines which is always a great way to find a new one. I was hoping to find one of those self-serve wine station. Or even an area where you can sit and have a glass. Can't wait for our next visit. read more

Today my wife asked me if I wanted to go to Kohl's to help her finish Christmas shopping. Normally I would weasel out of this, but with Total Wine next door, I was up for it. Only our second visit, and I'm looking forward to exploring further. Spent most of our time in the beer section so far, and it's impressive. You'll see all the familiar Michigan craft brewers represented, and a few lesser known ones. You'll also find wider range of brews from these outfits than you'll see even in most well- stocked markets. And you can venture widely into brewers beyond Michigan too. We did strike out looking for some Founder's Bottle Shop selections, which usually aren't that hard to find. Another Yelper mentioned limited offerings of Belgian ales, which we noted as well--and one of the things we'd come for was some Belgian trippels for aging. We have at least cruised the whiskey aisles and were impressed by the selection. Great variety across a number of price points. Didn't buy any today, but did pick up an Asbach German brandy that we sometimes have trouble finding, and for a few bucks less than the last time we bought one. Lots of mini-bottles of different spirits are located near the registers, giving you an option to taste something before you take the plunge on a fifth. I may be finding reasons to shop on the west side more often now. And eventually, I will actually make it into Total Wine's wine section! read more

This was the first Total Wine location I've seen and visited. I was drawn in after receiving a grand opening flyer with coupons for free glasses and a wine cooler...and noticing it was not too far from me! I wasn't sure what to expect but would describe Total Wine as a very large grocery store filled with all types of alcohol from around the world. It was well-organized, clean, and brightly lit. The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable about their products. I've discovered a new favorite Chardonnay following the recommendation of one of their staff members. In addition to alcohol, they also sell charcuterie related items to go with your beverage. If you go in at the right time, they also offer samples. Their company website is also helpful, although I must note that sometimes it is not up-to-date in terms of vintage and it is often not up-to-date in terms of if something is actually in stock in that store or not. Also, it can be listed as in stock, but shelved really high and essentially be inaccessible when you get there. The more of a value the wine is, the more likely this will be the case. I wish the store was at a slightly cooler, cellar-like temperature. read more

Came to return bottles from a month or so ago. The staff were extremely helpful, even when bottle return machine rejected several brands. These included an old holiday special brew. They have an amazing Ing selec of everything. Even though I don't drink alcohol (!), they have a lot of special sodas. My only complaint about this store is the staff. We were not there to buy wine, but there on another matter. On 4 separate visits we received inconsistent service, inconsistent information about policies and inconsistent policy interpretations. Lived in this community over 40 years and have never experienced disrespectful and snarky interactions with employees until my dealings with Total Wine. I had previously heard negative comments about the attitudes of employees and managers. I now understand from first hand experience. So many of the local businesses have high standards for customer service. Consequently, many of their employees are polite, courteous and gracious in matters large and small. Just had a very frustrating experience at Total Wine. My husband and I were shopping around and at checkout the woman asked for my ID... I politely gave it to her. She then requested to see my husbands as well which was at home. She denied selling the alcohol to me stating their policy is to ID everyone in a "group". We're not a group, he's my husband.
