(you know you want to sway to Lionel Richie's ballad now) Thus sings every single beer in the microbrew aisle - which, mind you, sounds like a bombastic choir considering how many there are. Most of the voices are silenced by my own internal voice going, "Holy sh*t I do not have 14.99 to spend on a 22 oz. bottle of beer!" Price aside, I've found many beers I wasn't expecting but couldn't find beers that I can find elsewhere. So it's strangely hit or miss. They have a walk-in cooler with a variety of six-packs and some regional/international beers. I found some of my favorite Colorado beers and not others (like Fat Tire, I can find that in other A2 liquor stores but not here). The staff isn't the most helpful or knowledgeable in the world. But they're friendly enough. They have a good selection of rolling tobacco (when I drink I tend to quit quitting and thus return to my Bali Shag ways). Every time I've been in here there's been at least one gentleman who perhaps is a street dweller which makes for quite an olfactory experience. It's a strange contrast to the moneyed undergrads and bourgie grads that sift through the aisles. But no matter. This LIQUOR STORE (where I come from a "party store" is a store with balloons and costumes for children) completes the trifecta along with the Beer Depot and my local neighbor Falsetta's. read more

Main Street Party Store - the outside of a liquor store - Beer, Wine & Spirits Near Me - Ann Arbor, Michigan

Eh, I don't know why people think that the outside here is so sketchy. There are sometimes people s'panging, but they are never threatening panhandlers. Just say no or ignore them and go about your business. This is a solid one-stop shop for your liquor, beer and wine needs. I'd say that within a quick radius of downtown, this place probably offers the best overall selection of all three. They've cut back their snack offerings over the years, which is fine -- but I'm happy that they still have Germack Pistachio Co. mixes. Fine liquor selection, but a somewhat dusty and aggressive experience. Almost every time I visit, I see some little altercation between the staff and a customer --- or, as they said this time around, a "trespasser." Nothing violent, but a little off-putting. Most of the hard stuff is either behind the counter, or up on dusty shelves well above the normal aisles of chips and beer. OK if you know what you want, but very hard to browse. Good bottles, but too many anti-shoplifting precautions to be comforting. read more

This used to be the mid-stop between a friend's house and a Carriage House party. They have a great selection of beers and the cigarettes by the counter. That's all we ever needed. What a great location, in and out, no fuss. Just be careful if you're walking already tipsy because that intersection is no joke. Be sure to check out their walk in cooler in the back. They've got some great beers back there. They also have a small sliver of parking out front if you need a place to stop after getting off of M-14E. read more

They have a surprisingly good beer selection. I was able to pick up some very limited release beer from this place. I figure that part of this was due to the fact that they were charge $2-$3 more than most places do. That said; the fact that the beer was there at all was pretty cool. Will be back if I am ever in the area to see if they have some slightly overpriced gems. read more

The only reason I write this review is because I got a can of aloe juice and it was expired by a month (I could taste the expiration). It is illegal to sell expired goods to customers. Additionally they refused to sell me tobacco even though that particular city ordinance has been struck down by the Michigan AG. read more

Stayed in Ann Arbor for a weekend and this place had all of our alcoholic needs! Has a great selection and I still think the name is witty. Bought some interesting beer from here and a hard-to-find drink I've been looking for. 10/10 would recommend! read more

Good selection but the liquor I came to buy was marked up 30-40% more that state minimum.That's $20 over priced for one bottle and $40 over for the other. Crazy! Great store if your not concerned with price other wise there are better stores out there. read more

I love this store. If you're into beer, this is a mandatory stop. The selection of brews is truly impressive and Alex, their beer expert, is always ready with helpful advice and spot-on reviews. The refrigerated back room makes you feel as if you're walking into a (beer) garden of heavenly delights. I also really appreciate that the bottles look new and stock seems to be replaced often. Better than Village Corner, where I swear some of the beer has been sitting around since the beginning of my undergrad four years ago. The wine selection tends to be a little spottier but the staff is honest about what's crap and what isn't. I haven't been to Bello Vino yet but within walking distance of campus, this place is your best shot. (No pun intended!) read more

OH Murder Mart, how I have missed you. During my days at UM, my friends and I never knew your real name, but due to the sketchy scene out front, we affectionately called you Murder Mart. Since then, we always make a stop on our way into (and out) of town to pick up some rockin' selection of beers. You can't get Bell's Oberon in Canada, but luckily you can get about 50 different brews from Canada at Murder Mart. Check out the Unibrou varities of Blanche de Chambly and Ephemere in the big bottles if you like fruity beers. read more

Be prepared to be accosted on your way in or out but once you are in they have an excellent beer and (more importantly for me) wine selection. Its a bit disorganized but they really had a lot. An extra star for providing rating information on many wines to help us make a selection. read more

Our company was hosting a beer tasting recently and we needed a dozen unique types of beer. Main Street Party Store was able to supply everything we needed and also had many additional options to choose from. Alex was extremely helpful at finding the more uncommon beers and making suggestions when we were open to trying different types. We will definitely be coming back here for our next event. read more

I really like this store. They have a very large selection of craft beer and spirits (including many you don't normally see in other stores) at good prices. The owners/staff are pleasant and friendly with everyone - and recently went out of their way to hook me up with a hard to find item I was looking for. The store conveniently is located right on Main Street and stays open later than many other stores in the Ann Arbor area. I appreciate and recommend this store. read more

I'm halfway...a little more, perhaps...through a bottle of Valpolicella (Superiore) from a Verona vineyard named "Rafael" belonging to the Tommasi family and available for less than $15 at Main St. Party...Store? (lies! lies! the sign says "Shoppe" with that ridiculous extraneous e and doubled consonant!). It's not the best Valpolicella I've ever had, but it was cheap and the last time I was in Main St. the only Valpolicella they had was kosher (and yes, I bought it anyway--happy to report that it didn't quite trigger a gag reflex, but this one is much better). The sum total of useful information I've just imparted: Main St. may not be your #1 purveryor of Valpolicella. Then again, in Ann Arbor, maybe it will be. My advice? You're in Michigan. Try the beer. It really doesn't matter what sort of brew you're in the mood for, if they don't have it they'll probably have an acceptable proxy. Tuborg, Delerium Tremens, Bells' seasonal, Fin du Monde, Chimay. Pistachios, Christmas butter cookies, milk, molasses, dish detergent, pints of Haggen Daas. This is not the wine talking; they have a truly random assortment of purchasables. A nice, but not entirely comprehensive collection of tequlia, scotch, misc. other sippables, mixers for people who like that sort of thing. Factory-sealed deli sandwiches, for the same kind of people. In the final analysis, even if it's perplexing and the employees don't know the first thing about wine, I'm really glad Main St. is where it is: only slightly off the path between where I work and where I drink. I feel bad breaking up their five star streak, but this place ain't no five star place! If you get any grocery item at all, check the date! I seriously they had two month expired bread on the shelf. As some others have stated, the shop is located at a seedy corner. It is the closest liquor store to the homeless shelter. They have an excellent beer selection. As for wine, they cover the gamut. Have a couple racks of $5 and under wine. There are both great buys and clunkers in those racks. If you find a bottle you love, head back soon to buy more since others are checking out the bargains, too. Then, there are many racks with a wide and varied selection of wines with pedigree. Just be aware that some of those wines have been languishing for many years on the shelves. However, for a party shop, the breadth of selection is very impressive. Then, there is a surprise for wine aficionados. There is a hidden back room with an amazing and surprising selection of the finest wines. From great European producers to top California wineries and more. These wines have mostly been here for a while, but have been well stored. Truly, there are few wines shops in the country, and no others in Michigan, that I can think of that offer such a large and wide assortment of the finest wines along with some years of maturity to them. Ask for a tour of their wine cellar if you are looking for something special. The prices for these are fair for the top quality. read more
