Initially I was taken back by negative reviews here, but location and appointment time worked great for me, so I decided to give it a try. First off, everyone was super friendly and nice. Fred was very welcoming and walked me through my insurance benefits, so no surprises there. Dr. Lau was very attentive and professional, even though I mostly wanted to update my prescription, she took her time to try different options and overall made me feel much better about my complicated prescription. I'm planning to come back next year. read more

Poorly run office. Young man at the front desk has an attitude and forces patients to do things instead of explaining why they need to and getting angry/impatient. No appointment confirmation either (had to manually call and confirm) and they had no clue what appointment type the patient is there for or record of insurance even though it was all provided on their reservation system. Dr. Arrieta is a great doctor and I'd like to seem him under different circumstances read more

This office is highly disorganized, unprofessional (read: rude af), and I lost a month waiting for an appointment I couldn't use. I submitted my insurance information 4+ weeks in advance and specifically asked to confirm I was in-network. I received a confirmation but no actual follow-up, so I thought everything was ok. When I arrived, there was confusion about my appointment date, and then I was told they're out-of-network -- something that should have been caught well before the visit. What made a frustrating situation an inexcusable one was the behavior of the front desk staff (white, male presenting person on Sat., 3/28/26 around 1pm). Instead of acknowledging the oversight, they were defensive, rude, and snappy--insisting they "called three times this morning," when I received one missed call and no voicemail. Without a message, it came across as a routine confirmation call, not anything urgent. (Note I wasn't even talking to this person, but they jumped into the mix just to try to make this "my fault.") I would recommend taking your care to any other office if this is the kind of incompetence and "help" that awaits. read more

I have been going to Total Vision in Richmond since last year when Dr. Riffle was still at this location. This recent trip, I was under the care of Dr. Arrieta and Aubrey. The exams were really fast and I was in and out within the hour! I appreciate Dr. Arrieta and the team here. read more

Just spent $300 for a simple eye exam that I paid $125 for - before the practice changed hands. They could also clean their carpets. Not returning. read more

I came here a few months ago for a first-time contact lens fitting with Dr. Michael Arrieta. Dr. Arrieta became visibly and audibly frustrated as well as acted rude and unprofessional during my first-time fitting. First-time fittings are obviously stressful and uncomfortable for people who have never used contact lenses before. I was struggling to keep my eyes open while he attempted to put in the contact lens, and I really didn't appreciate the way Dr. Arrieta snapped at me for a reflex I was unable to control. I came back another day for another fitting with Dr. Bonnie Lau, and Dr. Lau was actually kind and patient. Instead of rudely criticizing me for struggling with the contacts, she offered tips and tricks for how to put on contacts and reassured me that she "does this all the time." I had a great experience with Dr. Lau. Hopefully, my experience with Dr. Arrieta is an outlier. Otherwise, I am concerned for other patients (especially children) who may decide that contacts aren't for them after an encounter with Dr. Arrieta. read more

I always have an enjoyable and smooth experience at Richmond Vision Care. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. Today's visit, I was helped by Sandy and Dr. Milner. Both were friendly and patient. I felt like I could ask questions, and they were happy to help me. I have been going here for several years, and I will continue to visit even though I received laser eye surgery and my prescription is basically zero. It's always good to come in for check-ups annually, and they make it a quick and pleasant experience. read more

I came in for my annual exam and clarified on the appointment survey that I only needed new glasses and frames. So They tried to charge me for a contact lens exam that did not happen and upsold me on premium features for my frames and lenses. I explained clearly upon arrival I had no money to spend and only wanted the benefits included in my insurance coverage. After showing me frames and without explaining the options included in my plan, I was asked for a payment. I had to reiterate that I did not want add ons since I already pay high premiums for premium coverage. I was treated like a second class citizen and shamed in front of the staff and other patrons for not being able to afford the extras. I will pick up my glasses and then I am never coming back. This was unacceptable behavior and It felt like a high pressure time share pitch. I do not appreciate getting attitude for being fiscally prudent and I am disappointed in the dishonesty and shifty attempt to disregard my clear request. They do not listen to their clients and it appears as if they are struggling financially and need to push sales. read more

I came here today to have my eyes checked and reorder contact lens. My left eye gets watery when wind blows at me, but not my right eye. Dr Milner was friendly and diagnosed the issue with my eye lashes. I was happy to find out that I can still wear contact lens and that my prescription didn't change. He recommended an eye drop for allergies and gave me a coupon for it. I was able to order a year's worth of contact lens and even receive a pair of free sunglasses as part of their promotion for ordering a year of contact lens. I'm glad my vision insurance covered most of the cost and I only need to pay $22! read more

Total Vision Richmond - Free pair of sunglasses for buying a year's worth of contact lens - Optometrists Near Me - San Francisco, California

The doctor here is great! There was a little problem with my new prescription sunglasses, but they helped me to fix it very quickly .

This is by far the worst location for eye exam i have ever gotten. The acting assistant manger was extremely under trained. I was told they were in network with my insurance all to find out AFTER the exam and was told they were out of network. They couldn't figure out how much my payments were when asked while all giving wrong information about the costs of the exams. The optometrist on the other hand was awesome and very professional. read more

This is my goto for my eyeballs. I came here for my last two eye exams and prescriptions. I've seen both Dr. Milner and Dr. Singh. Both were awesome, on time and happily answer all my random questions. Their front office staff is always so nice also. Making any kind of appointments make me feel a little anxious, but the service here was wonderful! I was a first-time patient/customer in December 2021 for an eye exam and to get new lenses and Ada made the scheduling process easy and painless. First, you go to their website to schedule an appointment and provide a reason and they will follow up shortly with you via email. Although limited hours, I also like how they're open on Saturdays. I don't remember the names of the other staff, but they were all so kind. After my eye exam, one of their female employees sat down with me and explained everything my insurance covered, which I'm so thankful for. When trying on different frames, she also provided her honest opinion of how they looked on me, which made me feel SO good and confident in the frames I purchased. Highly recommend this place for your vision needs. Speaking of vision needs...me being me...I misplaced the glasses I got from them and they're nowhere to be found. And I just got them! It's on my to-do list to give them a call to purchase another pair of frames (that I will not misplace and lose -- lesson learned!!!) and I'm not dreading it! They got themselves a returning patient/customer due to their excellent service! read more

I went to Richmond Vision Care based on a recommendation by my friend. Wish I hadn't listened to her. Dr. Singh gave me the wrong prescription. The first time I went back to get it fixed, she argued with me that she had under prescribed me because I have migraines??? Why would a Doctor "under prescribe me"?Then she blamed LensCrafters for making the glasses incorrectly. Went to LensCrafters, they tested the lenses (which were correctly made), however, I requested they remake them for good measure - still the same result, blurry non 20/20 vision. I gave my eyes a week to "adjust" but it was obvious that I had an incorrect prescription. Back to RVC for the THIRD time. Back to LensCrafters for the FOURTH time. My prescription is better but still not correct. I will never go back to this optometrist. Complete lack of medical professionalism. Also, they ran the wrong insurance for my first appointment. And after they said they would email me my prescription, they didn't. So I had to call them to get my prescription.. they sent me the wrong one the first time and I had to contact them again for the correct one. Ridiculous. 0/5 stars. read more

Called today and try to make an appointment, asked if they will take my insurance which they don't, and thats fine, I guess just the way the phone was answered and the interaction I had was not what Im used to give myself in customer service, other than that I have not visited this doctor but sure first impressions do count, even when they're not face to face. read more

Great people there! Easy to work with! The doctors there are like family! I have problems they can fix it!

Terrible customer service from the reception staff on the phone in person and via email. They did not inform me that they do not take VSP until i was at the office which was weird since I booked weeks in advance and they had called me the day before. The doctors are great though. read more

I will start with / the doctor I saw was lovely (Dr Riffle). Customer service is the worst I've ever experienced. Been wearing contacts since I was 13 and have had an array of doctors and offices I've gone to over the years. Never have I been treated with such disrespect for my time, nor completely conflicting information from the initial appointment booking, to arriving, to being seen. Felt incredibly discriminated against for having Medically Necessary vision needs. Backstory: I had an eye exam last week at an out of network provider, got my prescription renewed for lenses and glasses. Came to get my contact lenses re-ordered with an appointment (needed a quick in person lens exam for them to fill it) and had been told to bring my prescription, lenses, and glasses. Done. Arrived on time, had everything with me. Was told upon arrival I needed my glasses prescription as well. But I'm not getting glasses? Oh we need this as well. Ok - my eye doctor is currently closed, can I add a glasses exam to my appointment today if that's a separate exam and is needed to fulfill my contacts prescription. Waited 45 minutes to be told by a very aggressive receptionist that I both only needed the glasses prescription, but also an "infraction" prescription as well to "complete the package." What?! Could I not start from scratch with a full eye exam here and pay the normal co pay? Was told (repeatedly) "no." I had to get from my other doctor before I could be seen by this doctor. I'm just getting lenses reordered, mind you - with a current prescription. Waited another 45 minutes while they looked into it. In this time I got my glasses prescription from my doctor via email and submitted it. Was then told that basically the two prescriptions I submitted weren't necessary, I was to do a full eye exam now (even though I was also told I couldn't do a full eye exam.) What in the twilight zone was happening. I truly thought I was being linked as I was told completely contradictory information by the same team. If I had the luxury of time to go elsewhere I would have. AVOID AVOID AVOID this place unless you want to leave infuriated. The customer comes last here! Again though - the doctor was lovely. read more

Friendly staff that is very customer focused and efficient with their operations. Making an appt. was fast and accommodating to my schedule. I met with Dr. Mukha and she was a good optometrist that listened to my needs and evaluated me with great attention and detail. Frame options were wide and the overall environment presented itself well and accommodating to a number of patients at any given time. I recommend this practice for your visual needs. read more

We just moved back to the Bay Area recently and found this optometry office close to our home. I took my 4 year old for her annual eye check-up and Dr. Lau was great with her. She took the time to show her all the tools and machinery which made her very excited for her check-up. As for myself, there is a great selection for frames and a lot of staff to help with picking the right pair. They were knowledgeable and listened to what I was looking for. We were out the door within an hour with my contacts and frames picked out! read more

Positives: Clean environment, adamant about hand washing/hand sanitizer and taking patients temperature. Friendly front office staff - they greeted me and checked me in promptly. I'd give them a 5 stars for hospitality. Cons: My reason for 2 stars is time with the doctor. I had a 1 min exam (if that) and then a "referral" to a place that is closed (not on an official bad just a scribbled note). This is really frustrating, as I asked if I needed to see the doctor for a referral to a surgeon before coming in and they insisted I did. The doctor barely looked at me and I honestly felt as if I was wasting her time.... Following the visit, I tried to call the office of the place I was 'referred' and found out their office is closed. This was a complete waste of time and $$. Thank goodness insurance covers the majority of it but frustrated to the say the least. I wish they would have been up front when booking the appointment to go elsewhere if they could not help me. read more

Awesome service and great prices! I realized this morning that I completely ran out of contacts and not only were they able to squeeze me in, they gave me enough spare contacts to hold me over until my shipment arrived. Dr Singh is great. She's thorough and warm. The office staff is very friendly and Sonia will help you find a great pair of glasses. Highly recommend. The only issue is they are busy so you need to call a month in advance to book an appointment. read more

Dr. Singh is one of the best eye doctors I have ever had. She is caring, compassionate and extremely thorough in terms of her examinations. I have issues with both near-sightedness and age-related far-sightedness, and she has been incredibly patient in trying to help me find the correct contact-lens prescription to maximize my vision. I sent the rest of my family and some friends to Dr. Singh and they love her as well. Another thing I appreciate is that she is always up on the latest products--from lenses to eye drops--and recommended a terrific new eye drop that has helped tremendously with my dry eye. Visiting her, I never feel rushed or patronized. Dr. Singh is a gem. It's also worth noting that the front-desk staff at Richmond Vision Care has also been extremely pleasant and helpful each time I've visited. The only problem I've ever had during my 10 years visiting this place is that, a few years ago, the woman behind the eyewear desk (NOT Dr. Singh) ordered my glasses with the wrong prescription, omitting the bifocal element. Unfortunately, by the time I realized she had made an error, I was told it was too late to return them to the factory. If I ever order my glasses from this place again, I will make sure to double-check the prescription and try on the glasses before taking them home. read more

This place is amazing!!! Great staff, always friendly, communicative, and professional to the MAX! Had one of my nose guards fall off and they fixed them while I waited (5 minutes,) and replaced both for more comfortable and better fit! Been there twice in the last few months and plan on going in soon for my next exam!! Then "contacts" and a new pair of frames. Shout outs to EVERYBODY, but, Aida, Kate, and Olga especially THANKS! read more

Before I made an appointment they approved that my insurance is coverage my eyes examination for pick eye glasses. But when I came there they started charge me. I don't what it was, but I experienced that they made a few useless test just for pretending that it's very important tests. After that, Dr. Singh examined me. In my opinion, she did the same things as the previous nurse. Then they send me to buy glasses for another specialist. I got the impression that this is not one clinic, and several companies work there and each specialist makes money for himself. Eventually I bought glasses for $ 300 with 1.0 diopter lenses, which I don't need at all for such a price. read more

Dr Garrett Milner is a very proficient optometrist. He answer my concern and set up my vision exactly what I need. My experience here was a nightmare, in how I was treated and the price I paid, but I've since learned a lot about the right way to go about buying eyeglasses. My company offered me eyeglass insurance, which I paid monthly for, so I went to one of the businesses on their "approved list." That's how I ended up at this business for further exploitation, and was hit with the traditional kind of bill that's double what you really should be paying. Lens Crafters is also exploitative, while Site for Sore Eyes is so consumer friendly that you'll only have to pay half the price. Yes, what I'm saying is that most eyeglass businesses are not consumer friendly, but more like used car dealerships or many attorney's. Buyer Beware. read more

Great great optometry site. Everyone is so so professional and patient. Making an appointment was simple and fast. Come here!

I needed an annual eye exam and found this place conveniently near my house! Everyone here is very welcoming. The assistant who prepped me for the eye exam was super friendly and even made casual conversation. Dr. Milner was the optometrist assigned to me; he is very knowledgeable about his profession. I've never had my pupils dilated before but Dr. Milner explained each step while performing the test. This eased my worries and made me feel comfortable! He also answered all my questions about switching contact lenses. I got a free trial on some new (and more affordable) lenses. The office follows up on your trial with a phone call/ email, whatever your preference is. Richmond Vision Care made getting my eye exam and contact lenses super easy and convenient. read more

This is an absolutely terrific optometry office. I recently had to get "real" glasses in order to pass my driving test and was really dismayed by the $300 or so I was going to have to pay because no one took my insurance, and I would have been out the cost of the exam, the lenses and the glasses. As a last resort I called every single optometrist office within 5 miles of me and was delighted to find that Richmond Vision Care accepted my insurance. They were the only ones who did. The office itself is large and airy and I was so pleasantly surprised to see 3 huge walls of eyeglass selection offered in many price ranges. The optometrist who examined me was extremely nice and very professional, as was everyone who works there. I didn't realize that normally it takes 10 days on average to get my glasses back but they came through when I mentioned I needed the glasses for a specific vision test one week from the date of the order. I ended up paying just for my lenses, a grand total of $85 and my glasses are very pretty! All in all a very good experience and a highly recommended practice. read more

5 stars for the doctors, 1 star for annoying pushy old Russian sales lady. I told them upfront that I needed an eye exam and rx and that I would not be buying glasses from them because I already found a pair I loved at Warby Parker. I went to see Dr. Singh. She was super - helpful, knowledgable, and approachable. I got a new rx for contacts that she recommended and I love them! As for obnoxious Russian lady... wow, did that put a damper on my visit. I understand everyone needs to make a living and she probably gets paid commission but I hope to never have to deal with her again. Yuck. read more

More like Richmond--Vision--Don't-Care. Brought in glasses for them to just switch frames. Sounds simple enough? Nope...Also they close down for lunch. Seriously? Well, they still get 2 stars for at least admitting they don't have the tools to do the job. read more

Dr. Singh has been treating my poor eyes for over 10 years, and I enthusiastically recommended Richmond Vision Care to many of my friends in the city. Dr. Singh specializes in fitting contact lenses and took a great deal of care in fitting me. Much thanks! The frames bought from them six years ago are still going strong and they get compliments all the time. They're not flashy but the opticians helped me select a style that fits my face. I'm not really docking them a star for anything, but I see five-star reviews and I'm like "right, who paid them?" and then I see the one-star reviews and I'm like "really?!" so they get a four because they're damn good, and I'm not getting paid for this, just wanted to share my good experience with professionals who take great care of my eyes. read more
